Hey all! One of my viewers has created a petition to make sure none of the malfunctions of the 2020 AP Exams happens in 2021. Here is her description: "I came up with the idea that Collegeboard should develop early 2021 altered ap exams to prevent a glitchy test, allow students to pay for a test they agree too, make up for learning impairments in a pandemic, show teachers and students what to prepare for ahead of time, and preserve a fair shot at gaining college credit for students." please sign the petition if you would like to support it: www.change.org/Ask-4-Fair-2021-AP-Exams Love you all
Maybe there will be a DBQ question someday that’s like “Evaluate the change and continuity of Monopolies and Robber Barons in the US between period 1865-1898 and period 1980-2022” lol
For all of my APUSH and APWH people out there. After a full school year of learning in an ap class, we have 45 minutes to write a historically supported essay on ONE question to determine whether or not we get college credit. That seems totally fair...
@@thee_.chrisSuzuki When taking it I felt the same but really I'm thankful they gave us the ability to take it anyway and to be able to write a concrete, coherent response under time constraints is what I believe will separate the ones who worked hard and the ones who didn't.
Christopher Truong that’s not rly the true definition of a nonprofit. Nonprofit executive directors still make a hefty sum, but the money made by their can’t be turned into a profit, they get paid through grants and outside funding
Obviously they have to pay more because the tests need to be shipped to Asia (or the other international places). Think about it, shipping a test to California is way less than shipping a test to Singapore. Edit: just a friendly FYI: collegeboard’s headquarters is located in New York so it’s obviously harder to ship something across the globe than it is to send it to a different state. Also, I’m not sure if international tests are produced in the language where it will be sent (ie AP exams being in Chinese if sent to China) but that can also add to the cost.
@@silhouetteshadow126 I agree that that should be a factor in cost but they should be refunded at least something considering that no tests were shipped
Christina Yoh stop complaining about the money aspect of this process. By performing well on AP tests, you’re saving a whole lot of money in college. It is what it is, deal with it as best as you can cuz you complaining isn’t gonna get you anywhere
@@ChristinaYoh At this ratem with all the stress and effort that we're putting into this, it almost makes more sense for THEM to be paying US to take their stupid exams. I took my AP Computer Science exam the other day and the submit button literally didn't work. I clicked on it: no response. I tried multiple ways of submitting: still no response. It really shows how stupid their system is and how little they care about their students.
I'm from the U.S. but I definitely agree that this was quite unfair for international students. Regardless of what their main demographic is, they should have done the exams with all students in mind. I'm sorry this happened.
It doesn't matter about how much they care. You can't give a unique test to a small pool of international students. The tests go through rigorous statistical analyses to curve the scores in a fair way. The test is based on an American standard. The curve completely changes when the sample size drastically decreases and when all the students in the sample are prom a completely different population.
I don’t understand why it is such a huge deal. Yes it’s unfair I agree. But if you have to alter your sleep schedule for a 2 week span when you can’t do much with your life anyways, I feel like you just have to deal with it since the solution to this issue would be so much more problematic. They’re not gonna write a set of different exams for the minimal percent of test takers outside the US
I’m an American student and had to do it at 8am, it’s not as bad as the other but it’s still really unfair! Imagine someone waking u up and ur already stressed so u barely have any sleep and then u get asked a difficult question it’s really hard to do!!
“99% of students had no issues submitting” 3 people in my Calc class, 4 in my APUSH class and 2 in my CSA class. More like nearly 20% have had issues submitting from my classes alone.
i literally had like half of my calc class and about 10 people for my english class unable to submit smh college board shouldve just cancelled all of the exams
I’m pretty sure they double talked their stats. Double talking is when you say something that is a fact, true, but you’re not providing the real statement. For example, a cashier at McDonald can say that they are a specialist in handling transactions of assets for a multi billion dollar company. You see what the College Board probably did, was that they probably collected the stat for the number of people getting the “A Response was not submitted.” Which obviously doesn’t encompass the entire group of people who faced issues in the exam. For some people, there was an error in submitting responses and couldn’t submit anything, and they didn’t get a congrats page or an error page. So many factors were probably left out from that stat.
Although, not many people, in fact, 0 in my calc class had an issue, I heard that in my chem class 2 people (?) had an issue but that's it. It is very much possible that 1% is accurate because 1% makes up such a large portion of the student body.
I literally only know of 1 person that had trouble submitting out of any of my 3 classes. I suppose this is all just anecdotal, and it could just be a vocal minority
I didn’t take into account about international students that were taking the AP tests. This is so important! It’s already hard for AP students in the U.S. however it must be harder for international students. I honestly wished they could of just canceled this AP test this year or at least give us more time or more sections to the AP test like they would normally. It’s not fair a SINGLE test question determines our entire score!
@AquaticElement can you give an example of a question that can't be searched up? When it comes to history, math, science all those things have one clear answer so an open ended unsearchable question for them seems impossible. I can see your point about the time aspect though. i would do the the exam and then go back to the questions that i'm not sure about and make sure i get as many of them right using the internet. it seems so incredibly strange that having access to the internet isn't and instant pass.
Same, I feel so bad for the international students, College Board is so stupid- They only care about the profit there’re making. Also, about “searching up the answer”, It’s kind of hard to do because you have a timer and it goes by really fast. So you kind of have to know what you’re talking about from the top of your head, especially if your question consists of writing an essay, or a DBQ.
@@ravemasterdbzwwe Evaluate the changes that occurred as a result of reform movements in the United States from the years 1877-1915. Remember to include... Context Thesis Provable argument HAPP's Etc etc. If you don't know, you can't search this up in 45 minutes. Oh P.S. it's a DBQ so you have to interpret the documents or you won't get any higher than a 2 or a 3 if you literally do everything else perfectly.
Rave I took AP Chemistry, many parts of the test required looking at unique charts and diagrams which aren’t online. Similar to the other person here, you have to know how to interpret and solve questions based on these charts. Not a single bit of the internet helped me on the test
College board tried to expand servers and create a usable interface that would be under heavy load in SUCH a small amount of time. This accusation of them spending money to pay executives is BS. People have no idea how much money it would cost to create that so shortly. They did their best. Only 6% couldn't submit. Better 6% can't submit than 100% of people can't take the test.
@@CarrerasCorradosCoffee Are you serious lmao they could've gone to other measures sooner to make sure people could submit their exams other ways (ex. how they are not letting people email responses), but they are BARELY doing that this week because they had so many complaints from students. CB has more than enough money and people working there to have taken precautionary measures on their own, especially knowing they have hundreds of thousands of students taking an AP exam at the given times THEY assigned. Bad planning from college board is unacceptable because they threw 6% of students under the bus, which equates to thousands of students total.
Wills Vlogs oh really? The amount of money it would cost to create a plausible program for testing when it has been done before? The 1.3million dollars the executive of a non profit organization takes couldn’t have been put back into the system to stop kids from stressing out and having to go through another month of agony? While that money’s going to go to his vacations where he sits back and revels at the LITTLE he has done to ensure that we have a equal testing experience?
"99% of students" having no issues taking their exam does not mean that the 1% of students who just had all of their effort wasted suddenly disappear. I hope they decide to stop ignoring the many rightfully angry and frustrated people and try to make this right.
They're taking the entire percentage of all AP students, they aren't splitting it up into courses as well. I didn't watch the video yet so I'm sorry if this was already stated, but there are like 1 mil people taking the exams, and 1 percent of that is like 10 k people. That's such a large amount
I took the ap exam, it was terrible. I almost couldn’t even log on to start the test cause it said “rate exceeded” but I was lucky enough to be able to submit my responses. My heart goes out to all the international students and people who couldn’t submit. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO SEE THIS! We deserve justice for this!! (Update, I commented this when there was like 6k views, now there is 86k lets gooo! More ppl are seeing this and college board is actually getting sued, look it up)
Varsha Mudaliar I understand that it’s dumb but all you have to do is take a makeup exam. If you were able to write strong responses once, you should be able to do it again. If you don’t, then you don’t deserve a high score
@@foreignsavage8750 well obviously I am going to retake it and I filled the request out way before you mentioned. but am I not allowed to be frustrated and upset? I think everyone that went through this can rightfully be mad. I am fine taking the exam again, i'm just mad the CB didn't take into consideration a wide array of factors.
Varsha Mudaliar no I completely understand your frustration, I’m just saying that staying upset and voicing it on here isn’t going to make a difference. And they definitely did consider several factors considering that they are accommodating for millions of people around the world in different situations and most of them could successfully submit. You just expected this process to go perfectly, but based on the circumstances, it was inevitable that it wouldn’t
Most students faced no difficulties. The small percentage that didn’t has an easy opportunity to retake. Considering the circumstances, it definitely wasn’t an absolute failure. They had a few months to set up these tests and they’re accommodating for millions of people. Some issues are bound to happen and if you expected the exams to go perfectly, you were overly optimistic because problems were inevitable
Hard agree. An easy fix for all of this would have been to have an online MCQ instead of having us do the written portion of these exams, as how can you expect us to write things out and rely on the absence of tech issues to upload these pictures rather than just using an online quiz portal?
Foreign Savage 87 exactly and you had a way of submitting it they said email us the answers if you couldn’t submit it right after the exam ended. Don’t blame college board because you could have submitted it and yes not everything is perfect
They should’ve cancelled these exams. Many people don’t have the ability to have a good workplace and have other priorities during this pandemic. For international students, this is very unfair. I hope you’re able to take the makeup exam and do well.
I wouldn't go with many, majority were able to successfully do it, but yes there was a decent number of people that couldnt. Percentage wise not that bad
JustinTime someone said a college board exec released a statistic that said only 2% of all testers on the may 11th exams were even able to successfully submit??
@@JJ-jw9gg yeah 2% isnt horrible, yes it isnt ideal and is obviously more than preferable but that means 98% which is the vast majority of people had no problems at all
Glad you are advocating for the student body. Can’t imagine taking an exam so late. What makes me the most mad is that college board has multiple forms of the test so they consciously made the choice to not give a different form for international students. This situation isn’t ideal for anyone and I hope you get through ur struggles.
They kept on sending surveys so I sent them a 1000 word essay about how this is crap and used things we have learned in our AP classes to support myself and recieved nothing in return. College boards halfhearted attempt at saying they've helped is such absolute garbage. I dont even understand how they could possibly say that they are giving a fair shot with such simple potential fixes that so many high schoolers have come up with.
Lmao you’re wasting your time. It’s something you have to deal with. Stfu and stop complaining, you won’t get anything out of it. They helped by significantly shortening the exams. And yeah students do have an extremely fair shot considering 99% of students experience no difficulties. I’ve taken 3 tests and had no troubles and tbh the prompts are super easy. And idk about your fixes, I assume you’ve never had to accommodate for 5 million people
There should be a feature where the answer automatically uploads after the designated time is up. We should also be able to type directly into the box where you upload. I’m really stressed out bc my exam failed too and I have to retake the exam in June. I was ready to be free of the class that gave me the most anxiety but now I have another month of anticipation. Thanks corona and CB.
Oh my gosh Preach, me too. I agree 100% with what you’re saying. They have zero fail safes for such an important part in achieving high schooler’s careers. They completely screwed us over this year.
You think they would think harder and come up w/ multiple safety nets and allow more upload time for students, but seeing how they clearly don't care for international students and saying "it's only 1-2%" really shows how they don't care and just want the money.
that's exactly what i was thinking. how are the developers of the application that stupid to not automatically submit it. theyre so dumb. not even my fault and i have to suffer through this bs one more time
to be fair there are some exams where you can't exactly do that (i did my ap calc ab exam on paper bc it would be a living hell to do it calculus on a computer) but it begs the question of why they didn't just do multiple choice exams. or even commence with exams at all.
I mean, AP was meant for Americans. I personally mostly took IB which is an international college level course that give you college credit as well. IB cancelled theie exams bc they knew doing an international last minute online exam sounded like chaos. I'm in the US and I've taken AP, but college board rubs me in the wrong way since I took it and I saw that some colleges required me to fill out another financial aid form from college board which has fees to send it out to colleges while fafsa is free. College board just seems to be very controlling and is really trying to milk the money out of high school students who want to go to college.
I’m a student in the US, and even though I didn’t have to struggle with this, I felt the way it was done was awful. this is so unfair, and I can’t imagine how stressful this must have been for you. I hope this gets fixed by the college board.
@@drownedcow1029 I feel that, so much time and effort just wasted and they give you no compensation, they just say oh well thats life retake it, without realizing we have others things and still have to remember the concepts.
Thank you for all the overwhelming support (1k likes?!!) on this video. I hear your frustration and fully sympathize with every single one of you. Let's continue to respectfully voice our concerns and share this vid (insta! twitter! facebook!) so our voices can be heard. There may not be much that can change now, but hopefully, it'll give the college board a lot to re-evaluate how they approach "equity and access" in the future.
Collegeboard did not give us this test to show good intentions LOL if they did....they would reduce the prices esp with the way the economy is going down globally.....also a 94 dollar fee (and whatever they charge international students) is even WORSE..... like WHY DO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS HAVE TO PAY NEARLY TWICE AS MUCH FOR AN ONLINE TEST!!! A TWO FRQ ONLINE TEST
A lot of international students take APs because they are planning on going to college in America or their international school is in the American system.
I don't get why they couldn't let international students test at a better time... they made multiple forms of each exam for the 1, worldwide time, so why couldn't they have made different forms for international students? I feel so bad for kids who couldn't submit, but at least CB made some kind of opportunity for the potential of college credit vs cancelling them altogether... this is the 1st time ppl have had to do this so tech difficulties unfortunately make sense. But people who couldn't submit should be 100% refunded, if not able to take the makeup (and who knows how that will go :/ ). super frustrating
Because the tests are curved. You can't give the same test. The questions would get leaked to whoever took the test second. So you would have to judge international students against only international students and Americans only against Americans. See where the issue is? It's an American test relying on a certain standard. The international students likely make mistakes on different questions and do well on different questions which would lead to skewed statistics. I know it's easy to say, "Just make an international test," but from a statistics stand point, that creates huge, rippling effects that would nullify the fairness of the exams. Taking a test at 12 AM isn't the end of the world. Just change your sleep schedule.
Davis Parks What? You aren’t making any sense. Read their comment, they stated that CB has made multiple versions of the exam. This means MULTIPLE FRQ’s relying on different units of the course in general. At first, I understood why the test was at the same time, simply because it’s difficult to make multiple NEW FRQ’s. Now I come to hear that they made various FRQ’s to prevent cheating? Now their argument makes no sense at all. If you have different FRQ’s, why not make students around the world take the exam at a recommended time? Notice how pre-corona, international students took their exams during the day. Why? Because CB made DIFFERENT exams. So what’s preventing them now? They already have different FRQ’s, so why not make different testing times? Yes, the questions from the American exam would be leaked, but it wouldn’t matter because international students would have different FRQ’s. Here’s the truth you don’t want to hear; CB wants to target people to prevent all scores from being a 4 or 5 this year. With online exams, it’s very easy to cheat, CB wants to prevent people from retrieving perfect scores, so who’s the easiest to target? International students, simply because we work at a different time. Lastly, don’t state that we should “just change our sleep schedule”. It’s more difficult than you think. Our brains are trained to work during the day and sleep during the night. I’ve been trying to change my sleep schedule for the past 2 weeks, but what’s another factor? School. International students are still required to go to school. I have only been able to get windows of sleep, maximum 4 hours. Your comment is extremely small-minded. You aren’t experiencing this, so do not say that it is simple for us to just change our sleep schedule. Before you comment back with some statistical bullshit or something, notice how the only response international students have received is a “we’re sorry” from CB. We don’t want an apology, we want a fix. Just because we aren’t in America doesn’t mean we have less value towards this testing. We deserve the same opportunities simply because we pay the same and put in the same amount of effort, if not more. If CB really cared, they would make a change. I’m sorry, but in my opinion CB fucked up.
@Davis Parks Except that they made multiple tests this year. My classmates in AP Physics and in AP Calculus AB got different tests than I did. So that point doesn't really stand. Also, it's extremely to change one's sleep schedule on demand
If they were too lazy to make some new forms for international students, at least reserve a couple of those forms already made for international students! I cannot believe they think everything is alright! They make international students pay SIGNIFICANTLY more for their exams and then they’d have to go through this BS. Not acceptable. They really did not try their hardest and made these exams completely not fair. These tests are not standardized; people are receiving versions of a test much more difficult than that of their peers. Also, their “Sample” exam is complete BS. It’s not representative at all for the actual 2020 exam. For the AP Biology exam, we had 10 questions in 30 minutes. They were literally trying to screw over students by adding 6 paragraphs of complete nonsense, 3 charts/ graphs, hella complex vocabulary, and very weirdly worded questions. The AP Biology exam was more about English comprehension than it was about actual Biology. I did the sample questions, I did the college board AP classroom FRQs, I did the past year FRQs, nothing I would have ever done would have prepared me for this garbage. My teacher consistently told me that I always score the highest in the AP Bio unit exams; typically scoring 90%+ uncurved, which compared to my classmates, they’d score around 60-70%. I’m telling you here and now, nothing could have prepared us for that exam.
One of the authorities said that only 2% of all those that took AP Tests on May 11th (USA) weren't able to submit. But if you consider how many people took it the first day which I believe is greater than 300k (might want to double check), that's like 6k kids. Those 6k and probably more to come will have to consistently refresh their memory of the subject until early June for the retakes. It's just added stress during a time that we are already depressed about.
Refresh? They already know the material (or at least should). Consider it an opportunity to study more. That's like a gift in disguise since you're almost bound to improve on your second attempt at a test.
@@sivad1025 what if you were already ready and certain you would receive an acceptable high score? Now you have to spend an extra month keeping your memory fresh on the material. It's just one more thing that has to be thought about for another 3 weeks. It will probably affect others differently than me, but I doubt anyone thought of this as a blessing.
cb is very very rich and it SHOULD buy more servers to handle this issue. These shitty things only reflect how corrupt they are!!!!! I submitted my PDF work 20s before the timer hit 0 and it magically went so well!(I used VPN service to change my IP to the less crowding environment)
many people said to not use a VPN because they have the ability to view your IP address and if they see you are a different location than where you say you live, you can be flagged and accused of cheating.
Christina, I am so sorry that this happened to you. It's horrendous. The same thing happened to my son with his AP Physics I exam. He submitted the first question fine but the second one wouldn't submit. He had 6 minutes to go and tried cutting and pasting, attaching the file, printing it and then taking a picture and sadly nothing worked. It is heartbreaking that he spent 6 minutes trying all these possible ways to submit multiple times as 6 minutes counted down, expired and sent him the message that they had not received his answer. This College Board nonsense about browsers that aren't updated etc. is infuriating. What, did the browser become out of date in the 15 minutes between submitting his first question and his attempt to submit his second one? Also, he had no trouble with Government and Politics and his brother was able to submit for European History, all on the same computer. It is so devastating for all the students experiencing this utter failure by the College Board. Thank you, Christina, for this articulate and thoughtful video. I have been out of my mind since this happened to my son, and your video made me feel better, even though I am still furious and upset. You are an impressive young lady and even though you did not have success on this exam (through no fault of your own!) I am absolutely certain that you will have all kinds of success in life.
Coming from a chemistry major: Looking back, I strongly encourage all of you: PLEASE research your college's info regarding AP transfer credit BEFORE you decide to take that AP course. For example, if you plan to major in natural science or engineering, you MUST take AP Calculus--I scored 4 on AP Statistics but that ended up being useless to me since I had to take Calculus courses anyway for my major. In addition, I scored 5 in AP Government, only to learn that I had to instead take an upper division level of American Government course as a general ed. requirement for my college (i.e. no exemption). I feel students need to focus more on how the AP scores are transferred to their college instead of just passing the AP Exams.
Or skip AP all together if you can. I took AP for my first 2 years of hs before I was eligible to do Duel Enrollment at a local commercial college. I now take REAL college courses without the hassle and waaayyy less stress because I choose more laidback teachers than ones I got in AP classes. TLDR: If you can take real college classes, great! AP is much harder than college classes.
The first step in the virtual process was to check contacts. It’s most likely your friend doesn’t have an active email with the College Board. And if not, there are several simple ways to contact them to assure that they have your contact so you can receive your e ticket
A similar thing happened to my friend. A few days before the exam, she found out that teacher had accidentally refunded her exam money, which meant she never received her e-ticket. The teacher then contacted the college board several times to explain the situation, but they refused to allow her to take it in June.
@@foreignsavage8750 I have an active email, have received all of my other testing tickets, but did not receive my apush testing ticket. I checked my trash, all inboxes, and spam and I can confirm that I never got it.
coolpilot569 that’s unfortunate. But like I said, they’re pretty easy to contact and a makeup really isn’t a huge deal. You just have to wait a couple weeks and take a 45 min test
I’m American and that demographic idea that we are more important is kinda bulls**t, all should be getting an opportunity to get rest and be ready at the right time, and they should have made sure that the program was fixed before it started and not focus so much on cheater-proofing it
Please don't let this video stress you out too much about your exam; I know that the college board is (hopefully) working on solving this problem ASAP, especially since the AP Physics C exam was the very first one. But, I just felt it was necessary to address all my concerns and speak what was on my mind! Good luck to all of you with your AP's (I have 4 left too, so in the same boat haha)!
Christina Yoh it’s not just the international kids I took my AP chemistry exam today and I live in the U.S and when I went to submit my first question I didn’t even have the option to submit my photo. I hope college Board does something about it because I finished my test and because their servers failed I have to retake the test. Thank you for making this video.
i can totally relate! I'm a Korean student taking international course and i have to take my exams at 1 A.M., 3 A.M. and 5 A.M. What's important is that my school is running online class from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. This means that we have to be awake and sober at dawn, but should listen to school classes in the morning and in the afternoon in order to earn GPA. What's more, since i am a student of a school where both students who want to go to Korean universities and students who want to go to foreign universities exist, i don't have AP classes for what i am taking for this year. In other words, I have to study for AP exam on my own, using youtubes or barron's or sth. Moreover, since i am not taking those AP classes (not provided by school) I am not in the AP classroom so i cannot have access to those questions.
6:38 College Board decided to still have exams this year so they can make more money off of less effort (45m FRQs). If they canceled, there would have to be refunds.
Hey guys! I just wanted to give you an update - I think the college board has tried to listen to everyone's concerns and have provided an alternative. I'm still disappointed it won't let me submit my work from last week's exams, but I'm glad they're making changes to this following week. The info from College Board (I received from my school) is as followed: "Beginning Monday, May 18, and continuing through the makeup window, there will be a backup email submission process for browser-based exams. This option will only be available for students who were not able to submit in the standard process-and they must then email their responses immediately following their exam. These students will see instructions about how to email their response on the page that says, "We Did Not Receive Your Response." The email address that appears on this page will be unique to each student. Any student testing between May 18-22 who can't successfully upload their response through the exam platform or send it to us by email, will need to request a makeup exam. To protect the security and validity of exams, we're unable to accept submissions from students who tested May 11-15. However, these students can feel confident that the email option will be in place for them during the makeup exams. Email submissions will not be available for the World Language exams." I hope this helps out some of you who are worrying about your future AP exams! It's definitely doesn't solve all the root issues, but I'm glad they're re-evaluating and taking much-needed action.
It’s so dumb that they won’t let us submit a time stamped version of our test from last week, that would save me but now I have to take the damn retake for their mistake. I AM SO PISSED 😤 I’m a junior so these really do matter to me
it's so stupid how many people had this problem. I took my AP exam on May 11 and i couldn't submit my work because it wouldn't let me so i have to retake it and i was sure to pass because i was given an easy prompt but now i feel like the retake prompt is gonna be impossible
ME TOOOO!!!! I barely managed to submit my response for calculus in the last 10 seconds. I was crying and trembling so much. I had a hard time refocusing on the question 2 (Calculus AB exam)
On the behalf of all AP students from the US, I think that college board not being able to offer testing at reasonable times worldwide is absolutely ridiculous, unfair, and is extremely irresponsible. For a gigantic corporation that has a complete monopoly on almost all AP programs, this should not be an issue whatsoever. Thank you for sharing this, it is really helpful for the people who have yet to take the exam so we can be prepared for described technical issues. Much appreciated. I hope college board sees this and decides to clean up their act.
Joseph Richards Yep I saw that, College Board is still going to win though, one of the points made in the lawsuit was already easy to prove that it wouldn’t add to the case and College Board is eager to fight.
MasterGenius but they also have to fight against the disabilities act too though because they refused to give those who legally required time extensions or other needs for their mental and or physical disabilities. And that is going to be a lot harder to fight than just the student body of the world. I also believe there was evidence of the college board setting up a fake subreddit to lure in cheaters and they illegally used this information to discredit student’s work.
I had no idea some people have to pay for the exam. Meanwhile I’m in the USA and It is free for me and it starts at 1 pm. It is truly unfair that the ones who pay for the exam have it harder.
For all my American high schoolers out there (and international, if your school has similar things), if you have the option to choose between Dual Credit and AP, choose dual credit. At my high school specifically, dual credit is way less of a hassle. Most, if not all of the time, you don't have to take an end of the year exam like AP and get a certain score to obtain college credit. Usually, if you just have good grades in the dual credit class, that will be enough to transfer credit between most colleges. Dual credit at my school was also a bit cheaper than paying for an AP test, but obviously, things like fees will vary from area to area. Of course, if you don't have the option to take dual credit and you are able to take AP, go ahead and take AP. (My school didn't offer IB classes or anything other than AP or dual credit so I'm not sure about other possibilities). I hope this was helpful! I'm about to end my senior year of high school, so there were definitely a few classes where I wished I had taken dual credit rather than AP.
i was baffled when i realized we had to type our answers outside of the testing site. That’s supposed to be a given on tests, and it doesn’t take into account if students have different applications and such (i, for one, did not have microsoft word. i had to transfer my doc a couple times) Also, my timer ran out before it should have, i had a minute and forty seconds left, i switched tabs and then my test ended. this is bullshit. by this time my answer was fully written. im also dissapointed at the two-question exam. thats not fair to the people who only missed maybe one concept, which turns out to be their whole exam. conclusion: fuck college board.
@@bubonic_plague_arah747 OMG, this almost exactly what happened with me! I had 1 minute and 43 seconds left, I switched tabs to copy and paste and the test ended! This happened with my AP Lit exam; so it was the entire exam for me!
Bella Noelle finally someone who had the same thing happen! i was beggining to think i was going crazy lmao, and yeah i feel your pain that one answer was half my exam 🥺😭
I’m really glad that I live where my test is at 2pm, I couldn’t emagine having to take the test at 2am. I’m watching this 12 hours before my exam, and I’m terrified. The APUSH exam is on of the bigger ones that happen, and we are having storms all day tomorrow. Praying my power doesn’t go out during the storm. I’ve chose to hand write it, so there could still be a chance for me to upload it using my phone data
Everyone go to the Advanced Placement youtube channel and look at the like:dislike ratio. No one agrees that a 40-50 min exam can define your ability in a course that students have taken for like 6 months.
@@hmmtea7438 that's so stupid, 1-3 questions about a subject can't determine your knowledge of the subject as a whole or if you should get college credit. some people are better at certain parts of a subject than others. also some are better at certain skills than others. the ap test was to challenge you on material over the entirety of the course and on multiple skill sets you were supposed to build up during the year and they failed.
don't worry too much! I think they're def trying to resolve this issue right now. and even if this happens, know that it's not your fault, it's happening to other people as well. Just be confident :)
For AP Language & Composition, our teacher told us there are several versions of that exam to discourage cheating. They could have easily made a few more for international students.
Just an FYI: College Board just released that for the people taking the exam May 18-22, that if there is an error with submission or it says that your responses were not received, there will be an email which you have to send your responses to, immediately after the exam is over. The full breakdown is here: apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students/taking-ap-exams/exam-day-experience/submission-guidelines/back-up-email
I did that with my ap exam today and they tell me AFTER that I needed to send in my response with in 10 mins or it won’t be excepted and scored. It took me 15-20 mins to email my response cuz of some difficulties and now I have to retake it. So unfair :(
I live in China, had to take mine at 4 AM two days in a row, only for technological problems to happen and now I have to retake them at 4 AM again in June.
You can make a difference by instituting a class action lawsuit against these fools. Here in the US, lawyers are starting to offer their services to students and parents for actions by College Board that do not demonstrate the true skills and abilities of students.
Thanks for sharing this, I'm taking the AP Chem test soon and I was wondering about these types of problems. I'm sorry that this happened to you but I appreciate you spreading the word about this! College Board definitely needs to see this.
every minute of this video I got more and more mad. this is completely unacceptable especially for such a big corporation that “cares” about students. if international students pay more they should at the very least be able to take tests at a normal time. like at least 7 or 8am. when I heard about physics C crashing I almost had a panic attack over my calc test which was the next day but i’m really sorry this happened to you and so many other people. i’m getting more tired of the college board w every minute
Christina i’m so sorry this happened to you. i’m taking three exams this year and i have one tomorrow and i’m so scared about having technical issues. i really hope you get the chance to show off your knowledge and i hope everything is fixed in this issue
I’m in the US and still a freshman, but I definitely agree with your points. I took my first of two AP exams yesterday, and it was really stressful - good luck with all of your exams this year! 💛
I feel like College Board has had some server overloads during these tests. If that’s true, it just proves even more why they should have had multiple test times to help out international students. Multiple test times means that there will be less people uploading to their servers at one time. Of course though, they didn’t do that.
There are problems with multiple test times as well. You can try searching comments by new and I made a pretty good explanation for why everything happened the way it did.
Yes!!!!!!! I'm taking the exam in China and for half a month I got day and night reversed in order to do better in the test. Even my hair started falling off... That's really insane cuz normally I sleep at 10 p.m. for school days. And also for 2020 online test I even took leave from May 9th. Fortunately I didn't meet any technical malfunctions during my test but I do hear a lot of my peers saying that they got internet issues or something. The "crude" online test is really driving us crazy.
thank you for making this. i’m a junior who is angry and frustrated with this whole process (and college board in general). i hope they fix these issues- it’s ridiculous how much money i paid for this.
You are very well-spoken! Your respect for CollegeBoard despite their major flaws and shortcomings is very admirable. I hope that CollegeBoard will begin to keep every student in mind and overall try harder. I had difficulties logging in, but was still able to submit my responses. It’s very unfair that students who worked extremely hard all year were completely ignored and brushed off. I’m sorry that your effort did not pay off. Best wishes
Valid concerns. I’m worried about the future of these tests and if colleges will look at this positively. As a senior I don’t mind but I feel bad that others didn’t get the same experience during their freshman-junior years taking AP exams.
had my test yesterday in school on a school laptop, had to go through 5 different laptops since college board cant fix their shit and the program would crash every 10 minutes
christina as a fellow student in new york, you are giving an oral address that is respectful and I am super happy that you have spoken up for the millions of children world wide. Thank YOU!!! Seriously.
Our cries have been heard, there is a Washington Post article that provides details about a $500M lawsuit against College Board for "illegal activity." This is huge for us students because it may mean that we do not have to retake our exams.
That’s terrible! I’m so sorry that happened. I have my APUSH exam tomorrow morning and my AP Lang year on Wednesday and I’m just hoping everything goes smoothly. The last thing I need is to stress out about is simply submitting my work. College Board absolutely needs to do something about this mix up.
Had the same exact problem with the APUSH exam. Long story short, they aren’t commenting on it. They made so much profit this year by having the exam online, saving a bunch of money, and then charging students the same amount for it. Absolutely laughable display in their part. It’s obvious that they don’t really care for the students
We’ve spent a YEAR working so hard and having mental breaks over AP, and on top of that spent 93 dollars for the exam (which is hard to come by for some people). AP is our money, our time, our dedication, and our future. Considering all this, throwing in such an uncontrollable variable like the internet and NOT including sufficient accommodations for it, is just wrong and completely unacceptable.
Yes, I totally agree. Now I totally agree with everything in this video. Now, I don't know what an actual AP exam is like because this is the first one I've ever taken. But there were so many issues that went wrong that I heard from other people. Personally for me, I never had any issues with my exam but I know very many people who had trouble signing in and submitting their work. But I never took into account how people internationally are taking exams as well and it is so wrong for CollegeBoard to not give you guys a proper time to do your exam. They need to understand that us students taking the test have studied all year for this one exam that could really help us for college.
I’m a senior living in Taiwan and my university REQUIRES me to submit four AP scores, and three of my AP exams are happening at 2am!! I need these scores as well as my final report at school... so I have to manage between taking these exams that ends at 3am and wake up at 6: 30 to go to school bc I also need to do well on my final exam... so basically I have been screwing up both the APs and my school work bc I can’t freaking handle both of them at the same time🤦♀️
Everything is just so frustrating, I’ve had trouble submitting every single one of my AP Tests and I know my friends had trouble as well. I was supposed to take the AP Microeconomics test yesterday as well but never received my e-ticket and after a lot of work to contact College Board, I only got an answer of “because of a glitch in the system, your name wasn’t on the list of testers for this exam” and that they were unable to manually put me in for it or even a retest. Even though, I had payed for the test in NOVEMBER and have been on my school’s list of kids to take it all year. As a student in the U.S. dealing with these issues, I can’t even imagine what international students are going through. I’m just so upset for everyone who is facing these problems and I’m so sorry you had to go through all that struggle and frustration, it feels terrible.
I strongly recommend people to use the notes app on any iOS device to scan your written work to convert into PDF, and them submit it through your computer via airdrop. It worked fine all the time because it has 700kb for 2 photos, while other formats like JPG has 4MB for each! And the quality is also good.
This happened to me and I cried five times so thanks college board. And I’m fine with retaking but it’s so stressful to have been studying nonstop for months only to be told you would have to study for another month.
They probably just didn’t want to refund people and so were stubborn af with the entire process to just squeeze more money out of non-seniors that will take it again next year 🙃
“what is the PROBABILITY that I will get a 5 on the Stats exam GIVEN that I had an A+ in class but now haven’t had motivation to learn as much in online classes”?
I’m glad College Board is being sued, they deserve everything coming their way. I’m so sorry you had to deal with this, this is absolutely unfair to all the international students and to those who had trouble submitting.
Girl I feel what you're going through I HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND I GOT SO STRESSED BECAUSE OF THE EXAM, the worst part is that they'll only approve the request for a re-exam after 25th May . I couldn't submit any of my answers because of it. I felt like crying after that happened.
I am taking international (Europe) AP exams as well, all quite late in the day. One today, actually. You put thousands of students’ thoughts into one respectful video. Thank you, we all agree with you. CollegeBoard needs to fix their act.
also, consider that many tests had different versions (which was the case for ap chem and apush) so it was NOT impossible to create different versions of the same test for international students to take them at different times, especially considering that, if there was a specific version for international students, one of the versions already made for the current exam could have been only for international students (which ig is a smaller amount of students).
God bless you for being so kind and respectful in this video, when I was taking AP's in highschool I wanted to strangle them for all the normal complaints. I can't imagine how mad I'd be if this happened to me
I am an AP teacher in the US. I want to commend you for taking the time and effort to express so eloquently and specifically what your concerns were. What our world most needs now are young people who care enough to speak up and stand up for what is right. So much of our suffering on every level relates back to a populace too beaten-down, dis-empowered, or lazy (at times) to care enough to express what is wrong and offer solutions to make it better. The ten minutes you took here to outline specific issues was well spent. I hope the College Board listens and learns. You did the responsible thing by raising a red-flag. My students are my greatest source of solace and inspiration always, but especially in this time of pandemic. All of you deserve a better world. It's going to take young people speaking up and acting out on so many issues to make that happen. Good luck on all of your exams and fight to have that Physics one graded. As an AP grader, I will raise my voice to demand that this never happens again...that foreign students be given time-zone friendly exams. Thank you. You're a remarkable person.
I completed my AP Bio exam yesterday, and the same thing happened with me. I found this video soon after. I am in the same time zone as Christina, giving exams in the middle of the night, and I couldn't be more satisfied and resolved to have the same interests and opinions about the CollegeBoard as her. I think we all as a student community must take this matter seriously, even more if you are an international student. Let us all hope for the best but also remember that certainly ALL ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!
From what I heard, no two students at the same school got the same exam questions. Which basically means different exams. So why didn’t they ask different questions for different time zone’s? Clearly that was possible...
I moved from SG at the end of last year and I had my registration over there. After covid, they cancelled my registration, not telling me that it would stop me from taking them online and collegeboard was still sending me emails on how/when I wanted to take the exams etc... Anyways all around a messy and frustrating situation for everyone
college board is making separate test forms but wont even make a separate test form for international students so that they can have a normal time for their exams. I feel so bad for you guys :( this whole AP situation is a disaster.
Thank you for sharing your voice on this matter. I am from the U.S. and it sickens me that Collegeboard doesn't give an equal opportunity on these exams. I hope they redeem themselves to make sure everyone pass their exams and if you ask me, everyone who had submission technical difficulties, should be given the chance to take the exam for free. Also, they should adjust the time. Like 12 A.M? What the heck?! This just makes me so mad that you had to go through this. Every student should be well taken care of. Much love to you and stay safe!
I have to agree with testing time. My AP Calc AB test was at 2am today Philippine time (same time as Singapore) and literally I had a headache while doing the test but thankfully i had no glitches. Praying that my upcoming AP Lang exam goes smoothly
I really respect the way you tackled the topic. I knew College Board screwed up, but I definatley didn't realize how much. I'm sorry you had to deal with these issues. It makes me appreciate how lucky I was with my times for my exams.
I took the AP Physics C exams and fortunately for me I had no issues. The format was legible, the connection was stable, and the image uploading was good. I live on the East Coast so I got the good side of the stick. Putting my positive experiences aside, the way this is managed is absolutely bullshit for everyone else.
I'm genuinely so sorry you had problems. I know how stressful these exams were this year and- AH I just want to give you a hug! I'm sorry you had a bad experience! :(
in my AP US history course we practiced vigorously for all the types of questions at least twice a week. and for all that to be dumped out the window is beyond frustrating. all that work learning and mastering short answer questions, multiple-choice questions, and long essay questions down the drain. We spent so much time on them that we could have used learning more history. we were supposed to get through period 9 but we only got through period 7 which is the end of WW2. So that's 75 years of history we didn't get to learn. and that's all modern stuff that still affects us in our daily lives so to completely miss out is beyond frustrating.
Hey all! One of my viewers has created a petition to make sure none of the malfunctions of the 2020 AP Exams happens in 2021.
Here is her description: "I came up with the idea that Collegeboard should develop early 2021 altered ap exams to prevent a glitchy test, allow students to pay for a test they agree too, make up for learning impairments in a pandemic, show teachers and students what to prepare for ahead of time, and preserve a fair shot at gaining college credit for students."

You guys pay DOUBLE the amount of a US student? Yeah, they really did screw ip
not double (oops) but substantially more
Obviously they have to pay more because the tests need to be shipped to Asia (or the other international places).
They’re not gonna write a set of different exams for the minimal percent of test takers outside the US
I mean a lot of people still have other classes also. It would be interesting to see how many AP students there are outside of the US.
I’m an American student and had to do it at 8am, it’s not as bad as the other but it’s still really unfair! Imagine someone waking u up and ur already stressed so u barely have any sleep and then u get asked a difficult question it’s really hard to do!!
Hope, everything got sorted out for you. Good luck !
@@farouqalsalih619 Most likely, though they could be just lying.

It’s not fair a SINGLE test question determines our entire score!
this is the easiest AP test ever, you literally have the whole knowledge of the internet at your disposal
So you kind of have to know what you’re talking about from the top of your head, especially if your question consists of writing an essay, or a DBQ.

ok- BUT WHO TF DISLIKED?! COLLEGEBOARD EXECUTIVES? DID THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO SPEND ON BOTS BUT NOT ON SERVERS OR SUM?

Glad you are advocating for the student body. Can’t imagine taking an exam so late.
And idk about your fixes, I assume you’ve never had to accommodate for 5 million people
Foreign Savage 87 Was that reply really necessary dude?

I was just saying that if AP is going to say they want our feedback then why don't they seem to acknowledge it at all. Sorry if that upsets you?
and then at the end of survey for them to even read you have to agree to something that in it you have you agree to let them EDIT your response !!
There is no one right answer.
Oh my gosh Preach, me too. I agree 100% with what you’re saying. They have zero fail safes for such an important part in achieving high schooler’s careers. They completely screwed us over this year.
You think they would think harder and come up w/ multiple safety nets and allow more upload time for students, but seeing how they clearly don't care for international students and saying "it's only 1-2%" really shows how they don't care and just want the money.
that's exactly what i was thinking. how are the developers of the application that stupid to not automatically submit it. theyre so dumb. not even my fault and i have to suffer through this bs one more time
to be fair there are some exams where you can't exactly do that (i did my ap calc ab exam on paper bc it would be a living hell to do it calculus on a computer) but it begs the question of why they didn't just do multiple choice exams. or even commence with exams at all.
as an American, it’s gross how America-centric collegeboard is, I’m sorry for all the failures collegeboard had :/
Well, college board is an american company specifically for students in America.
College Board is based in America. It really isn’t gross at all.
Absolutely Ava it’s an American exam for American credit. It’s not IB
@@thedoublehelix5661 And yet it's international. If they're going to be global, they need to act like it.
I’m a student in the US, and even though I didn’t have to struggle with this, I felt the way it was done was awful. this is so unfair, and I can’t imagine how stressful this must have been for you. I hope this gets fixed by the college board.

A TWO FRQ ONLINE TEST
godronexe College Board needs a serious competitor to bring them to their senses or intervention by the U.S. government to sort this bullshit out
that is just so horrible i feel terrible for you bro!
@@godronexewhy would international students want to take aps...m
Davis Parks they’ve made multiple tests in the past thou.
I ain't retaking anything. College Board does not deserve to be retaken ever
I had the same issue, but I went back to my ticket and reopened the test, and then it worked
Hard to believe, but I guess it is what it is. I was able to submit mine, so I guess I'm lucky?

Coming from a chemistry major:
Looking back, I strongly encourage all of you: PLEASE research your college's info regarding AP transfer credit BEFORE you decide to take that AP course.
LQ Kim facts
Or skip AP all together if you can. I took AP for my first 2 years of hs before I was eligible to do Duel Enrollment at a local commercial college. I now take REAL college courses without the hassle and waaayyy less stress because I choose more laidback teachers than ones I got in AP classes.
TLDR: If you can take real college classes, great! AP is much harder than college classes.
A friend of mine never even got his e-ticket. Our head of school said he probably won’t even be able to take the retake in June.
The first step in the virtual process was to check contacts. It’s most likely your friend doesn’t have an active email with the College Board. And if not, there are several simple ways to contact them to assure that they have your contact so you can receive your e ticket
Wow, that’s super duper unfair.
A similar thing happened to my friend. A few days before the exam, she found out that teacher had accidentally refunded her exam money, which meant she never received her e-ticket. The teacher then contacted the college board several times to explain the situation, but they refused to allow her to take it in June.

i can totally relate!
The info from College Board (I received from my school) is as followed:
"Beginning Monday, May 18, and continuing through the makeup window, there will be a backup email submission process for browser-based exams.
Email submissions will not be available for the World Language exams."
I hope this helps out some of you who are worrying about your future AP exams! It's definitely doesn't solve all the root issues, but I'm glad they're re-evaluating and taking much-needed action.

I think a better thing they should have done was make an auto submit so when the time runs out it auto submits
The issue is that they don’t offer an in-application text document. No matter what option you choose, you have to submit from an outside document.

Exams were a nightmare, chemistry expecially..
christina as a fellow student in new york, you are giving an oral address that is respectful and I am super happy that you have spoken up for the millions of children world wide. Thank YOU!!! Seriously.
Our cries have been heard, there is a Washington Post article that provides details about a $500M lawsuit against College Board for "illegal activity."
This is huge for us students because it may mean that we do not have to retake our exams.
Good luck!!
Well. Here's to hoping AP Physics, APUSH, and AP Lang don't have these problems.
Because that would be highly unfortunate.
Why those? I can understand AP Lang, but why the other two?
Aldo Trejo uh, probably because those are the ones he takes
It happened to me for AP physics.
I hate everything.
I couldn't submit my response for my APUSH exam so I have to do a retake.
I need these scores as well as my final report at school... so I have to manage between taking these exams that ends at 3am and wake up at 6: 30 to go to school bc I also need to do well on my final exam... so basically I have been screwing up both the APs and my school work bc I can’t freaking handle both of them at the same time🤦♀️
I feel for you. Good luck!
They probably just didn’t want to refund people and so were stubborn af with the entire process to just squeeze more money out of non-seniors that will take it again next year 🙃
My friends had these problems and I felt so bad for them because even though I had no problems submitting, they are better students than me.
Ugh, I'm so sorry :(
I am taking international (Europe) AP exams as well, all quite late in the day.
I can't imagine how mad I'd be if this happened to me
QUEEN YOU DROPPED THIS 👑
I am an AP teacher in the US.
Yea when I pressed submit, it would just load the whole time but my WiFi seemed fine. After a while, it just moved me onto the second question.
I was fine too but one of my friends who also live in east coast like me got an error for response submitting so cb needs to fix their shit
I'm genuinely so sorry you had problems. I know how stressful these exams were this year and- AH I just want to give you a hug! I'm sorry you had a bad experience! :(
My APUSH test did not work I couldn’t submit it. I’m pissed off
in my AP US history course we practiced vigorously for all the types of questions at least twice a week. and for all that to be dumped out the window is beyond frustrating. all that work learning and mastering short answer questions, multiple-choice questions, and long essay questions down the drain.
