- Ever wonder why you have to pay so much for SAT fees, AP exam fees, score report fees, etc? What if College Board told you the truth? Here’s my take on why College Board does what they do.
P.S: This video is satire.

Should all high schoolers and coming high schoolers start a reform and boycott SAT’s. I know this would take time but any thoughts.
bruh, missing only one question and getting a 770 on math. Hit too close to home bro. too far

The most underrated joke of the video is the fact he decided to use “customers” instead of “students”
imo that is probably exactly what they do in internal meetings
Thats just true thou. Do they even teach you anything to make you their student.
@@madelinejester633 I'm a high school teacher and can confirm that behind closed doors administrators refer to students and their parents as customers. They give us trainings on "customer service." I wish I were making that up
Lol
The sad thing is it’s not a joke it’s the truth
I think the educational system as a whole is turning into a form of business
it is one, a poorly run one

Turning into? That’s a laugh and a half. Someone’s behind the curve.
I go to a private school now but I hear at public schools, you have to pay $2.50 for that crap lunch poison. Like actually, they mine as well just make it free if you are just going to microwave frozen soup

Isn't it just a little weird that the people with a ton of involvement in your college acceptance also have a ton of incentives for you to fail repeatedly?

one of the perks of being a profit maximizing monopoly
That is a brilliant observation. The answer is yes, it is weird and highly unethical.

Lol watching this after College Board got sued for the 2020 Online AP Exams.
xD
What???
@@michellel.8440 Yeah I wanna know more about this too
Prakhar Mishra they were sued because there were glitches that made students not able to submit their tests before time ran out, which basically makes their tests void, and it happened because the amount of students that were using the same link at the same time, even though collegeboard was aware of how many people were registered for each ap test, and it continued to happen after the first time. And then when people complained, collegeboard decided they were gonna make them pay to retake it in July, then people complained because collegeboard was at fault so they shouldn’t have to pay, and they decided to make it free, but a lot of people, seniors mostly, needed the ap scores before the start of college to get a waiver for certain credits. It also caused a lot of e,optional distress because it either shut down in the middle of the test, meaning they couldn’t get back in or their tests became useless.
Yeah. Even though I never experienced any malfunctions or technical issues, I’m still upset about this year’s AP tests. It’s still absurd that they charged full price for just 2 questions. They should have reduced the price. I would have also been happy if they even cancelled the test.
Additionally, many students were going through a lot during that time, due to COVID and whatnot, including loss of family members. And yet, they still had to take the test. Of course, they could cancel and ask for full refund, but then they get no college credit!
Nonprofit btw.
"Nonprofit" :P
Non-profit does not mean that an increase in revenue does not benefit those working for or with the company. It simply means that the organization does not return money to a owning board of investors.
@@hunterkohler3697 That does not make me hate them any less
Hunter Kohler Yep, basically ass
ShivVZG I think they’re referring to the students.
The fees for sending scores part actually made me cry tbh, like dang im trying to get ACCEPTED into a school that I'll have to pay thousands of dollars for that I don't have, and you make me pay extra to send these dang scores?
It’s literally so bs lmao
I'm genuinely worried that within a matter of years going to college will only be a viable option for the rich again. If I have kids, they'll probably never even see a college.
What's gonna happen to everyone else with how much shittier non-college workers get treated by employers, peers, customers, and society at large?
And the worst part about it is that the only thing you can do in the event of a monopoly, as somebody with no influence on educational or anti-monopoly law, is pay up.
Paying to send scores never made any sense to me. Like, I already paid for the exam, which would've been useless if I DIDN'T plan to send the score to any college. And why do I need to give $12 for something that can be done by a CB worker with the one click?
Sobhan Bihan exactly, they make so much money for bs
I hope you get in!

The funny thing is that sending sat score reports is so easy that I accidentally did it myself because I didn’t know that you had to go through college board to do it and 3/5 of the colleges I applied to accepted them and didn’t notice
Wait how did you do it without the colleges knowing? Asking for a friend
Linden Salter no guarantees that colleges won’t notice but the way I did it I viewed my latest score report (this way it shows all SATs you’ve taken) and downloaded it to a pdf and then sent it to the colleges after I submitted my application
Linden Salter I’d recommend you just go through college board though because most colleges will probably notice and tell u to do that anyways
@@blakestrand7645 You said 3 out of 5 colleges didn't notice. What about the 2/5 though? What happened?
@@blakestrand7645 Also, did you use CommonApp or Coliation for College when submitting your SAT scores?
What if the College Board gets ideas from this video... Nice vid
Hahaha they better not :P And thank u!
*Knock on Wood
Brilliant lol, "not opposed to making our customers suffer"
; )
My lost faith in the education system might have began when an SAT strategy course my mom put me in, offered by the school and them pretty much was more about exploiting the test than knowing any of the material. I know this because the rest of Junior year, senior year, and my 3 years of college have been absolute hell deprived of motivation and interest.
Yes, this is why I dislike test prep companies. They teach you to crack the test in a clever way, but not necessarily in the academically beneficial way, so they end up short-changing you in the long run. This is why I’m glad I improved my standardized testing scores the hard way, by actually improving my logical reasoning and content gaps, without the aid of test prep companies.
Yeah, I got hit super hard with the newer curve. Calculating my score in previous years using a different curve from two years ago would’ve put me well into the 1500’s... Even using a previous curve from the same year would have given me a much higher score.
I feel u bro, I know someone who got 3 or 4 wrong overall and got a 1510
The vibe I get from this College Board system is:
“Pay us money or fail”
Which sounds like pay to win tbh. For a game with such amazing lore, revolutionary character variety, amazing graphics, the ability to have a direct impact on the world for everyone no matter who you are, and an alright story, it’s monetized to hell and back, which really kills the experience for me. I wish people who makes mods for this game that try to mitigate that monetization get more attention to be honest.
De-monetization has been tried a couple times but players who try it usually lose the respect of the greater community and most of the time it breaks the game in one way or another. It's amazing that how no matter how sophisticated your code is, it's always held together with spit and duct tape at some points
So it's made by Electronic Arts.
But they're a nonprofit
:P
Autism Speaks is also a “nonprofit,” and they;re one of the shadiest businesses you’ll ever see in your life.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...please tell me you're kidding
@@astracrits4633 Weird fact: But the Canadian government is basically paying companies to take kids as interns and autism speaks was a huge partaker. It's basically free labour paid for by the government in exchange for training
whatever name Oh, wow.
...Lemme guess, AS doesn’t accept autistic people for internships? lmao
The one issue with watching videos like this is that it makes me hostile towards College Board (and rightfully so), which I will later use as an excuse for myself to procrastinated SAT/AP prep in the future. Really caught between a rock and a hard place, where the rock is my justified and seething hatred for the American education system and all its accessories, and the hard place is my need to do well academically.
I agree. It's hard to do your best in a system you hate.
@@serenalizinnqui8474 Exactly.
You can just go to colleges which do not necessarily accept SAT or ACT.
@@arsalahmed2463 They are few and far between, and I don't know about their quality.
just use it as motivation to get 1600 and beat da system that was made to make u fail
This video was utterly genius.
Ayyyy thanks Tax! xD I wonder if College Board feels the same :P
ShivVZG, lol I hope they fall apart. I think that college board is a money hungry company like textbooks you must buy this item making it a best seller. Scams...
@@DomainAspect It's possible that colleges will disregard the SAT eventually (some colleges are starting to do that like Uchicago) so who knows!
Even though College Board is listed as a non-profit, their CEOs have been found to be earning a massive amount of money. This is de-facto for-profit and this is what privatized education is like.
That's why I moved to canada for higher education. College in Canada and the US is the difference between being able to pay off your entire college experience with a single large bill with one payment, and dying with $800,000 dollars in debt because some rich dickheads expect you to be able to pay $67,000 dollars a year.
00:13
wow, I feel so attacked. How dare you speak the truth
xD I legit only knew that -4 for 780 math curve cuz of you haha! Nowadays they have -1 for 770 math curves it's insane. College board is ruthless
@@ShivVZG can confirm, got that on my SAT, sooooo glad that I checked my answers and changed my answer to that one question
I've helped run a non-profit before. You're allowed to profit all you want, you just can't distribute the profit amongst the shareholders. What you can do is use the money in next year's budget. As an example, we could budget to give the shareholders bonuses next year which happen to match the profit we made. We're not distributing the profit though, it's just a coincidence that the numbers are the same.
CollegeBoard: We take your money to make you pay for examinations that may increase your chances into elite colleges, but we cannot guarantee that.
This is hilarious
Thank you! xD
America~ The only country crazy enough to privatize college admissions 🤑🤑🤑
It isn’t really private cuz the government sponsors college board as a monopoly. It’s basicically an arm of public education at this point. The SAT was even shittier before the ACT started competing.
murica no 1 baby
We need to stop treating people who didn’t attend or didn’t graduate from college as if they were dogs that are “not housebroken”.

I have never related to a video so much! This caused me tons of pain watching it😂
It's meant to be funny but it's also really sad too haha Sorry you had to go through that!
Here's a real-life pro tip that will get buried. Don't take any of those tests. Go to a community college (100% acceptance rate regardless of background). Save insane amounts of $$$ doing so. Transfer out to any school you want when you get your associates after 2 years
This guy seems so nice and genuine. I love him
You can even see that they aren’t really a non profit organization because their revenue in 2017 was $1.07 Billion and their expenses that year were only $928 million
Love the pitch meeting style of this.
these videos are the reason i can laugh even tho studying for the SAT is hella gruelinggg :) thank u for making these vidsss!!
This reminds me of old school 2008 youtube videos and i love it
The unending pain knowing that next year ill have to spend 400+ dollars on ap exams, even more on the SAT, amd possibly on the ACT, and whatever other BS CB throws at me.
Wait now i'm scared to take the SAT. Have they really been doing this? So if i get one or 2 wrong, it creates a worse impact on my score compared to before? This is my first time taking it so idk
It’s not SUPER common to get a -1 for 770 math curve. Just focus on the questions and not your score. You got this bro!
The fact that I took the SAT for the second time today makes this hit rly hard
my one is postponed till 26th march due to centre closing.I am worried they might cancel it.

Maximizing profit over helping students. They literally helped creating the society they would complain about.
I love this! Your talented!
Thanks a lot bro! : D
Deadass got an SAT ad after this video
College board offered me a way to earn college credits through a program called CLEP. This program offers courses- with an exam at the end that costs 89$, which decides if you get the credit. While you have access to the curriculum for free, to get the credit you have to spend money (at a fraction of a normal college credit). However, CLEP credits aren't accepted by all colleges. Students who are In high school paying for CLEP exams, and don't know which college they are going to are most susceptible to wasting money. College board relies on students not doing their research.
I have been directly affected by every SINGLE point that u have made about the sat math curve, sending scores and rush reporting ... ur vids r on point keep it up
You nailed it, man! Awesome! ROFL. 😂😂
That feeling when some Indian guy simplified taking a college acceptance in less than 3 minutes compared to your english teacher instructing for over 3 weeks.
Honestly I think we all should protest no more education high cost. I spoke to someone who was part of the board and she said they charge students for tuition but the school has sponsored and people already paying for the bills. This is all just extra money. I hate school and I don’t think anyone can change my mind.
Rip you posted this at the wrong time. Only if you have posted it now when everyone is taking their ap test, they could watch something to vent out their anger

This is sad when you realize we are trapped by the monopoly of advancing education and we cant do anything about it because we're high school kids and no one cares about our well being *cries while studying for SAT*

Hey there! I've been studying to take the SAT this month and your videos have been helpful, you're a really smart guy. I take the test Saturday so I only have a few days left to study. I want to ask you, what are the most important math fundamentals that I need to know going into the test? I'm extremely terrible at math. I've been trying to cram as much as I can back into my mind as I remember almost nothing, but I just don't seem to get better.
I've taken 3 practice tests. My best math score is 430, and my worst is 380.
Thanks a lot for the compliments bro! I think knowing how to apply the area of the circle formula and other area forumlas will be helpful and knowing how to simplify expressions with imaginary numbers and other algebra concepts.
