There are lots of reasons why so many modern cars are restricted to a top speed of 155mph. Whether it be emissions, safety, or even something else, most new cars are unlikely to top out above this.
However, there’s no need to worry! There are still absolutely LOADS of extremely powerful cars out there which can go so much faster. With that in mind, we wanted to pull together a list of the fastest cars on sale that top out above 155mph!
Now to make sure this video isn’t several hours long, we’ve restricted it to the fastest car by each manufacturer, rather than including every car that’s available today. And to keep it fairer still, we’re limited it to just production cars - so you won’t find any concepts or one-offs here!
You all probably have an idea of what will claim the top spot, but are you surprised by any other cars which make this list? Let us know in the COMMENTS!

Me as a German calculating what mile per hour is in km/h ...
Easier to do it that way (multiply by 1.6) than the other way (dividing by 1.6). Interestingly (?) that you'll find out that the mph numbers like 211mph and 217mph, which are fairly strange numbers, work out to be really nice rounded numbers in km/h (340 and 350).

Finally a list that talks about fastest cars that only counts ones that have actually driven.
You forgot Opel Senator Irmscher from 1987 which was able to run at 158mph according to the manufacturer specs, but in reality it was able to run as fast as 185mph. That was absolutely insane in the early 90thies.
And yes, I'm only guessing it's actual speed as I'm using the metric system. It used to go a little bit over 300kmh. And mate, it was 30 years ago and it also had adjustable suspension (city, comfort, sport) So much ahead of its time.

Hey Matt, Number 14 should possibly be joint with the BMW Alpina B3 as the top speed of that is 300kph aka 186.4mph. Also the BMW Alpina B5 Saloon tops out at 205.1mph which is also around joint 8th in your test. Thanks! Hope you can include them the next time!
I remember driving for the first time at 150mph, it was in my good old Focus ST MK2 on the Autobahn and all I was thinking was: This is insane, my brain can barely keep up with this.
Now imagine going twice as fast. You'll probably be completely exhausted after 2 minutes just from keeping all your senses together.
I have seen many Bugatti, Lambos, Ford GTs and Porsches and non of them were flying in the city. Most of them buy these cars to compensate something.
They own cars with 200MPH top speed but they dont have any experience to drive them..
i have never seen any rich guys speeding with their Bugatti on the freeway.

A Vette is cheaper than the cheapest Porsche 911, cheaper than any Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren or Bugatti.
I remember during the early/mid 2000s, kids bought Honda Civic, Acura Integra and put a huge exhaust pipes on those poor cars. They thought the cars will be faster with stickers on the side, huge wings that had no downforce at all :)
Back than I had a Honda FireBlade /its a motorcycle/. I used to race against these guys on the street. They had absolutely no idea how to drive a car and even less experience..
Please please please start including the km/h aswell, idk how many international viewers you have but It would definitely be much appreciated
I'm British, we use mph...and yeah he should definitely include kmh for 2 very good reasons. 1 is what you said, international viewers. The 2nd reason, which is the big one for me, is that it seems to trigger Americans- which is hilarious ☺

We've got emissions controls that work, we've got electric cars hitting 200 mph... and I remember when Car and Driver was trying to find cars that could do over 110mph when the national speed limit in the US was 55.

Weight actually has very little effect on outright top speed. It has a massive effect on acceleration but top speed is all aero drag vs power.

Tesla Model S Plaid vs Porsche 911 Turbo S vs McLaren 765LT you guys are the only channel that can make this happen don’t fail us
I believe the Plaid is currently software limited to 160mph. Supposedly, Tesla is going to bring out a software update which will unlock it's top speed which will get it to around 200mph.
I'll be interested in seeing the Tesla Roadster 2.0. Elon stated a top speed of around 250+mph. So may not be the fastest supercar in the world. But if the claimed torque of 10,000Nm is to be true then it will reach it's top speed significantly faster than any other production car on the planet.

Same with the f5 and the ssc tuatara did a fake 330 mph run while actually doing like 280 mph later.
Also I can talk about the past more too the Bugatti Veyron was a king unbeaten for like 10 years only to be beaten by itself. The Chiron was so powerful it didn't have good enough tires to use.

Most of us will never find a road or a strip long enough to test even 250 km/h (unless you're German) so the quarter mile will always be more interesting.
It was my weekend drive in the town to the coffee before the police 🚔 put that stupid speed camera so if I want to drive fast I should drive away from the city to avoid the traffic
