Excellent idea to perform the removal and installation WITHOUT the cab. None of the other youtube videos exhibit the hardware and applications clearly like yours does.
Don’t have to twist my arm to snag a new turbo mines a 06 6.0 powerstroke with 95k bed is completely smoked but wade once again your an absolute legend in this business an I’m very fortunate to have talked to you a month or so back with my rig your the best man, and as always beautiful video and details are always number 1 with you and Adam.
Great Video! I'm glad to see it with the cab off for the "line of sight". It is important to see this perspective and get a mental picture rather than going in blind. I've watched videos of pros doing a removal in 10 minutes flat which is impressive, but there's a big difference between doing this hundreds of times and being able to do this blindfolded and doing it for the first time in your driveway. Bravo for taking the time to show this with an "x-ray" view and no criticism whatsoever. Of course, it won't be this easy with the cab on, but now I know what to expect and have a mental image in my brain. The one thing missing is the 03 model "hard to get to bolt" that I will be dealing with. What should I be expecting with this one?
Thank you. And yes getting the turbo off with the cab on is frustrating but its really not even that bad of a job. The more times you do it, the better you get at it. A flex head ¼ inch drive ratchet makes that a lot easier. If you have to, and if you can, you can remove the pedestal bolts and bring it out with pedestal. Good luck!
@@thoroughbreddiesel Got it done last weekend and all put back together again. It's running great now. Had it out in about 1 hour which I think is pretty good for an old guy with a bad shoulder in the driveway doing this for the 1st time. Next time I could probably do it in about half that time. Again, thanks for the x-ray views. This made a world of difference being able to see in my mind's eye what I was feeling with my hands. Next time I could probably do this in half the time.
Thank you for your help to all of us. I have never seen you or anyone else talk about this problem. I own a 2006 f250 with the 6.0 had it since new. We live out in the woods of north Fl. and drive on washboard roads every day. Out of nowhere my dash cluster and radio go out like you turned the key off. may happen again or not for a week or so. I thought maybe a bad cab ground as I had that happen on an old chevy. new ground did not help. My next try would be to unplug and clean every plug I can find. going nuts here lol. Any thoughts about it?
There is some debate on this. Late 06’s had the updated drain tube but still had the flex line feed line. Anytime you remove the turbo we suggest replacing the supply and drain lines.
I have a 2004 f350 w/ 6.0. I was pulling my fifthwheel, and we heard a loud pop we thought it was a tire blowout. Went check the tires they were OK so got in the truck took of the truck was power less. I checked the boot on the outlet of the turbo. They were good. I turned around to go home , the truck was gutless 5 to 6 miles per hour. And black black smoke. I got home.removed the outlet completely all was OK. So I am lost if you can give me any idea on what to check I'd appreciate it so very much...
It sounds like you blew a intercooler boot, and maybe you just haven’t found it yet. Check all four. Could have blown out your intercooler as well, but Im guessing just a boot.
@@thoroughbreddiesel You are correct. I had the same issue. Make sure to squeeze the boot. Mine blew underneath. Couldn’t.see where it blewuntil I felt around. $75 later, I was back on the road.
Lubricant that you use when assembling parts/engine components. Most people just use a light coat of motor oil or standard red grease. Using assembly lube helps parts to go together easier, and minimizes the risk of galling threads, cutting or tearing an o-ring or gasket, etc.
@@joshuawesl So just look for "assembly lube" at my local auto parts store? Why not expound on what it is? I was wondering the brand he used too. It looks like ARP.
@@centariprime9959 I literally did expand and explain on “what it is”. Sure, you can buy some dedicated assembly lube at your local auto parts store, but for most things, basic motor oil or grease will lube whats being assembled just fine. ARP does make assembly lube, and they also make a special lube for their head-studs so they can be torqued properly. If you really want to get scientific about it, assembly lube is usually very viscous and thick so it stays in place during assembly, and contains high level of molybdenum disulfide and zinc to minimize wear between metal/metal surfaces.
@@joshuawesl Thank you for the information. Why wasn't this information provided in the video is what I was wondering about? I guess I'll just use grease or antiseize. I'm in the middle of replacing my turbo and cannot afford any mistakes. Hence my questions.
hey fellows... I know this comment has really nothing to do with the video... but I trust you guys to help me... I have a 2000 and a 2001 dodge ram 3500s and the 2000 has developed a major oil leak in the driver's side... I'm planning on pulling the vp44 injection pump but I need a tool and I'm gonna need tappet cover seals, a tappet cover... .. man I don't really know what all I'm gonna need that's why I'm coming to u guys because I know you guys know... do you have that stuff on hand to sell me? will you give me a price on everything needed to do the job? iv got a few more upgrades I want to do on these trucks in the future but for now I need to fix this one for it is the main horse for my tree service...

This was awesome to get a much better visual with the cab off. Thanks for the time and for showing us the video. I'll be watching this again.
Thank you!

Thanks!
Finally, I got to see the back configuration of exhaust and flex pipes and connection locations. Thanks
Glad to help!
Easiest way I've found to get those v-bands loose is to give each pipe a light braap with a dull chisel bit in an air hammer 👌
Great tip!
Always great content, thank you. RIP Diesel Tech Ron.
Thanks for watching!

I was dreading doing this on my 6.0 but I feel quite confidece tackling it now thank you
You can do it!
It isn’t a bad job. Take your time, follow Wade’s instruction and advice and you can have it done in an afternoon.
Just, just, just, excellent. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video sir thank you

I have a 2004 6.0l with the horizontal rear bolt. Do all Garrett turbos come with a place to install the horizontal bolt
No, only the lates.
Does the 2006. 6.0 diesel need the updated oil lines in and out on the turbo ?

Question You said you was replacing the oil line. Is there a particular reason why.
Never mind I had not got to that point in the video. Good information thanks
What are all the sockets and wrench sizes?
Keep 10 mm’s handy for sure. I didn’t record all wrench sizes here but just need a basic set of metric sockets for this.
U can work on my truck haha
I went to you site and it said 2 year warranty. Is the lifetime warranty no longer available?
Yes, the turbo is a 2 year warranty. The video was not titled correctly.

Will a turbo off a 2004 6.0 fit on 2007 6.0?
Yes. If it's the early 03 style you just need to swap the pedestal
