I have downloaded this book and reading it. Tyrrell was Reserve Inspector of Police in Nellore.Later Jailor and Superintendent in Madras Penitentiary,Palghat Firt jail,Salem jail,Palayamkottai Cellular jail,Cannanore jail etc.Corruption was rampant and external help to rich convicts was regular.Now we find mobile phone etc used by convicts.Rampant corruption is century old. The existence of tigers near Nellore and Palghat Town in the 1880s is good information. Travel by open boat by him from Pulicut lake to Ennore to go fast to Madras was good information.In 1965 to 1972 I have seen boats carrying goods in Ennore lake and Basinbridge pier

Compared to Bangalore our Chennai has very very less parks for people to benefit and spend family time.
I am 71years. Was living in a part of kondithope. Reminds me SIAA grounds,Reekla,park fair, MY LADIES GARDEN, ZOO,SWIMMING POOL, SALT QUARTER GROUND, CIRCUS,,etc etc etc.

Later it was known as Our Ladies garden. Next to it was zoo. Nehru stadium was there. Football and hockey matches were played there. Kannapar thidal was there. Circus would be hosted there.
Lovely Sir. You carried us 70 years back. You r a God given gift to us.

Sir, in chennai the name of the places end with either pakkam or vakkam. Can you please give some insight for such suffics
. .& there was a Famous PREFiX Word known as "MATHURA" attached to all those erstwhile Villages of Madras & the Chengalpet & Thiruvallur Distt. For e.g "MATHURA METTUPALAYAM" an area Now known as METTUPALAYAM which is between MAMBALAM & SAiDAPET & also near to ASHOK NAGAR (today's METTUPALAYAM ends @ famous "MAAn-THOPU Corporation School" @ Jones Road, Saidapet)
& the present CHROMPET's name was "MATHURA" KOLLAN CHAVADi.
This PreFix Word MATHURA Word Still found in REVENUE Dept's Ancient Records of old villages.
i request Mr.Sriram to find out, How & Why this Strange Prefix Word "MATHURA" was used for mostvof the Villages of MADRAS & surrounding Districts
