Since my go to home defense gun is a Mossberg 500, my thump in the night kit is a chest rig. It has front and rear body armor panels, a pistol holster, and I have several shotgun cards affixed to it. I keep it slung over a chair in the bedroom, along with some electronic ear muffs. The ear muffs allow me to hear any possible intruders; and will hopefully keep me from getting permanent hearing damage if I have to fire my 12 gauge in the house. It's just the wife and I at home; and she knows to go to the safe room if she sees me throwing on my plate carrier.

I had to come back here to say thanks. I was looking to get a chest rig/plate carrier to throw on for home defense. It got to the point of paralysis through analysis. I came across this vid and thought it was a great idea. I got my belt and mag pouches last week and it's just what I was looking for. 5 seconds, I've got my holstered gun, 2 extra mags, knife, and a flashlight on my body.

I too have a Tac belt for the very reason that you stated. I'd like to suggest having a couple of sets of handcuffs. In the event that you do catch an intruder or two. You can detain them in a safe for you and safe for them manner until the law arrives. Also, a set of house keys and car keys on a silent key holder in case you lock yourself outside or you need to drive around the block. Keep up the good work.

Good one brother Bryan. I agree with your idea of velcroing everything in place. It takes precious seconds to adjust the things on your belt. If they stay put you can develop muscle memory and your hand will go exactly where you need it to go without trying to find what you need. God Bless and I pray you never need it.

Ran around the house ready to whip some you know what. Finally I realized a glass fell over in the sink. Me and the wife laughed later about it.

Few people are awoken from their slumber and tasked to go from 0-100 MPH than firefighters. 20 years ago I must've subconsciously thought of this when I began to simply leave the pants, complete with all of my gear, just beside my bed in a manner that allows me to easily place my feet into the legs, pull up, snap and clasp before looping my arm under the portion of my sling nearest me, hanging off of my headboard. Consistency in training and operation has always been a good thing for me, so I never saw value in any other concepts I thought of. It's always the same setup, whether I'm in my bed or across the country. Same guns, knives, light, wallet, belt and shoes. I hope after 20 years, you will feel as good about your system as I do mine. I will say though, there is a reason you only see equipment carried SOB in Hollywood: the spine doesn't care much for anything pressed into it, especially at speed. You may want to train from the ground with that setup, before you commit. Last observation, if I may; fighting without clothes and footwear is a rough way to go. Slipping on steps, catching a pinky toe on a chair, stepping on broken glass, or kneeling in it, are all bad things, and could prove deadly when loaded weapons are in the picture.
Normally, I'm not compelled to comment on your videos. I watch the ones that interest me, hit the button and carry on. In this instance, I saw an opportunity to help someone that clearly is open to help (ie. the tools and training you mentioned). Stay safe.

Brian, I don't know if you are ex-military but I learned to keep a "loaded belt" next to my bunk while stationed in certain areas of the world, namely the Middle East. I continue that practice today. My weapon of choice on the belt is more a deterrent than to do extreme harm. However, I do keep a shotgun in my closet next to my bed. I also set up a chest pack with essential survival items just in case. I've never had to deploy either and hopefully never will. Your belt idea is a great one and I'm sure that it will become a common item in many more homes.

I had the idea of creating a pair of coveralls that would have body armor in the front and rear and would magazine pouches and holster built in much like a plate carrier. These wolud set beside your bed with a pair of boots very much the same way a volunteer firefighter has his turn out gear ready to go. They would be called minuteman overalls.

New sub after this video. Like minded people. Been doing this for years. Running soe belt. Home depot has the hook and look industrial. Used some of the old digital bdu pouches. Its faster than a chest rig on and off. Chest rig is for boogiloo and belt is for night bumps. Do suggest and additional alarm box in your bed room. 2 reasons. 1 its hard to communicate with those that live in your home over the sirens. 2 once the sirens shut off criminals tend to realize someone is home and they need to leave but the down side is you immediately lose the element of surprise. The other side of that is the alarm it self will put the criminals on high alert. I do suggest putting a radio on the belt or some kind of internal communication device on the belt that will allow you to speak with the other residents of your home. You can pick up electronic hearing protection that also has a Mic really cheap on eBay that will protect your ears, amplify low level sound to keep your situational awareness.

I had one for years. Got a stainless steel Smith and Wesson 686 in 357 magnum set up in a cross draw a rig with 2 additional speed loaders and a bowie in the small of my back. Old school but I assure you quite effective. Also I like even better since I'm seeing your operation Christmas child shirt.

  • @josephharmon5542

From a retired peace officer you need to move that magazine in the back. When you put something in the small of your back and then you are pushed into something like a fence or a wall you will destroy your back. Move the magazine to either side of your back along the muscle and you will be fine. Nice job.

I too had an incident at a former residence one cold January night around 15 yrs ago. We were awoken about 3am to a sound I can only describe as loud and disturbing. My wife was first out of bed and attempted to run out the bedroom to check out one of our dogs who was sick and in his kennel. I of course stopped her because I was convinced it was a home invasion which called for me to be the man of the house and handle it. So I, shalaylee swinging, began clearing the house with my 12 ga. To my surprise there were no invaders just the top of the 90 foot tree out back that had broken off about 15ft off the ground and laid itself down across the yard and house putting a rather large hole in roof of the house utterly destroying the kitchen. I have not changed my sleeping habits but I now have a side saddle on that shotgun.

    Bryan,
I don't know if Klick-Belts makes one, but some of the other tactical gear suppliers make a padded liner for those Velcro belts. I would look into one to save your skin, and by adding one to the inside it would keep your gear from sliding around on the belt. This would allow your gear to remain where you want it to be instead of having to adjust its location every time you put the belt on.

Nice belt. I have the same belt clip on mine but it is a thinner web belt. You have to keep the small of your back clear though. Move that 30rd to the front or far off to the side as you can behind your glock mags. Even a light collision against a wall or counter can incapacitate you like a stun gun if you hit the small of your back just right/wrong.... and much worse can happen.

I threw on my robe ,put my glasses on, and grabbed my nickel plated 9mm Taurus. I went to the front door and looked down the cul-de-sac and thought I would maybe get a shot off as they drove away.heard a noise in the bushes, spun around and faced a 6 foot 16 year old boy 1 foot from my barrel, he peed his pants. I had more trigger control than I thought. He was helping her sneak out to celebrate his birthday with him. I brought him in and sat and chewed him out in the living room. I put my pistol in my robe pocket and every time I wasn’t paying attention it dropped to the floor and exposed my junk in my whiter tighties. I could have really used that belt to present a more resurrection appearance.

Bryan, you got me thinking and I dug out a ComfortTac velcro belt from one of my range bags. The ComfortTac belt is one of the most comfortable holster systems I've ever used. It's almost like my Nike gym weight lifting belt but softer and lighter. With the velcro secured in front, located over my right hip bone are two pockets, one with an elastic strap that has a snap closure where my Ruger is secured; next to it is an open pocket where I have a tactical Smith&Wesson folder and a small high lumen Olight flashlight with a hat/belt clip. In velcro pouches over my left hip are two magazine pouches. What I like about the ComfortTac is that it is form fitting and quiet until you pull the velcro apart of course. My Klik belt has a tendency to make sounds upon accessing any of the components attached to the belt. Another reason I love this ComfortTac belt is if you get into hand-to-hand combat with the perpetrator the belt moves with your motions vs the Klik belt which could swing/move in a direction possibly preventing you from accessing your weapon. I would imagine though that once you don and secure the belt you'd be drawing the weapon from its holster. I just like to make sure there's a perpetrator and not a family member before I draw my weapon.

@@SurvivalOnPurpose Ontario, Canada. You have a lot more freedoms in the USA than we do. Especially when it involves firearms or self defense. If you jump through the fiery hoops to get a long gun permit or even more of those hoops to get a restricted permit (handgun). You have to belong to a gun club (if you are firing a handgun) and there are few memberships around. And you can only take your Handgun to the range at the club. It and your ammo must be locked up in the trunk of the car. And you cannot stop on your way there or back for anything like a coffee or gas. Long guns can be taken outdoors for sporting purposes. The number of restrictions governing firearms are mind boggling. You must take a course for the long gun and it is an extended course for handgun ownership. From a recognized and licensed instructor. You are investigated by the police for anything that would disqualify you from ownership. Usually after about six months to a year all being well, you get your permit. There are many laws you must satisfy in just the storage of your firearms. And each time you buy ammo they put your name on a list, you have to show your permit. It's an endless obstacle course of restrictions. And they are wanting more gun control here leading to confiscation.

I always sleep in a pair of oversized Ex-officio boxers as they look like a pair of gym shorts.

    1. You belt is a good additional to your home defense arsenal, but it is setup wrong.
    2. Rules for setting up your belt.
    a. Become a minimalist. Practice minimalism.
    b. Don't attach/carry what you don't need.
    c. You don't want a bunch of items on your belt to get you confused during a fight, especially at night.
    d. Your belt should be streamlined and secure to your body and yet, be versatile enough to change configuration/your load out, when needed.
    e. The more weight you can take off your plate carrier and shoulders, the better, if you wear a plate carrier/body armor.
    f. Always setup your belt to augment and compliment your plate carrier/body armor vest, if you wear a plate carrier/body armor vest.
    g. If you attach items to the back of your belt, it should be small, compact, soft and when sitting, feel like lumbar support, not like someone sticking a knife into your back or something digging into your back.
    3. MAGAZINES. Minimum of two on your belt. One is open/ready to be pulled out and insert into your pistol or carbine. The other is secured with a strap. Why? If you are getting out of a helicopter or HUMVEE and you trip and fall or you slip and fall off a mountain OR you are at home and trip and fall, you don’t lose both magazines.
    You only lose one.
    4. MAGAZINES always face to the rear. Why? Pull and insert your magazines versus pull, flip and insert. It is all about efficiency of movement and speed. In a fight and especially at night, the orientation of the item you want and pull out matters and getting the right item for the task is important.
    5. KNIVES. You need to carry two fixed blade knives: a short one and a long one.
    a. A short knife, one-half the size of your long knife. Five to six inches long and attached horizontally to the front of your belt opposite your strong arm and near your buckles.
    b. The long knife of nine to ten inches long, placed vertically at the 4 o'clock position. If you’re right-handed, place all your lethal items; pistol, knife and tomahawk; on your right side. Left-handed? Left side. Why? If one or two 'ghosts,' knocks you to the ground, jumps on you, and grabs your firearm (pistol or carbine), you can grab, one of your knives and stab 'em. True life story.
    c. I carry a Gerber Strong Arm Fixed Blade Knife with Serrated Edge. About $50.00 to $69.00 and comes in different colors with a multilocational sheath. Not too expensive and not too cheap. Best value for your money.
    d. Always keep your knives and entrenching tool sharp. If you can’t shave with your knife, it is not worth carrying.
The only thing worst than an empty gun, is a dull knife.
    e. In combat, you can carry a folding knife, but not on your plate carrier and/or your belt, always carry a fixed blade knife. Nothing can go wrong with a good fixed blade knife.
    6. IFAK. The ‘I’ stands for Individual. That means YOU! More properly called an Operator's Ventilated Kit. Molle attached, rip away, with a safety strap. Why a safety strap? When walking in heavy woods or brush and ‘wait a minute branch or vine’ will catch and rip away your IFAK. When you are tired, hungry and thirsty, you won’t even notice it being ripped away.
    7. TOURNIQUETS. For your setup. One in the front and one in the back.
    a. Tourniquets are always visible. "If you have one tourniquet, you have zero tourniquets. If you have two tourniquets, you have one tourniquet. Excetera."
    b. In combat, carry a minimum of four tourniquets. One in front, one in back, one on your upper left arm pocket with red tab showing and one on your upper right arm pocket with red tab showing. c. If you need one tourniquet, there is a strong possibly, you will need two. You can never have enough tourniquets!
    8. Take a Armed Home Defense course based upon Intuitive Defensive Shooting that includes a final reality-based live fire practical exercise from a firearms training company who trains both the police departments AND the US armed forces. 95% of students fail the Armed Home Defense Course. Why? Stress, they forget what they were taught in class and they default to their lowest level of training.
    9. You never move to the sound of a possible breakin of your home. You need to know how to defend your home whether you sleep on the first or second floor. The rules are: 1. Evade 2. Barricade 3. Communicate 4. Arm 5. Defend, if necessary. Take an Armed Home Defense Course. It is an eye opener especially in this day and age where the home invaders want you to be home. Normally, two to four guys and one will be carrying a backpack. What is in the back pack? Torture equipment and zip ties. If four guys, two will go to your front door and two to your rear door.
    10. You must learn the laws in your state to use lethal force. Remember, a property crime is not defensible and a 911 call is always recorded. Know what to say, in order, to the 911 operator and then, say no more.

I put together a belt just like that 4 years ago! I keep it in my closet in a small push-button combo safe (2 young kids in the house). The only additional thing I have on mine is a Leatherman.

I use the safariland kydex mag pouches with the belt clip. They are the bees knees, don’t move an inch no matter what I am doing

Good food for thought on this belt concept. I hadn’t considered some of the things you mentioned. I may have to add something like this. Thanks for the video.

Back before I was married, I had a robe that hung on the open bedroom door where I could easily find it in the dark. You need a tactical robe. Have you considered hearing protection? Have you ever discharged a firearm in an enclosed space, like the interior of your home? Consider noise amplifying earmuffs.

Great idea! A few critiques: Don't have anything covering the small of your back: a fall could cause permanent spinal cord injury. Move more of your gear to that empty space in the front. If someone is on top of you, how easily can you reach behind your back vs. in front of your groin area?

If I hear a crash in the middle of the night, battle belt is the last thing I'm grabbing. first is lv4 plate carrier than my 10.5' ar pistol magged up Hornady 40gr v-max ballistic tip. which both are right beside my bed. just in case someone comes looking for toilet paper. just saying.

I have a sub2k with a laser/light combo attached underneath and a 33 round mag loaded with hollows. I’ll skip the belt because if I come downstairs at night because I hear a noise I’m not gonna be wearing pants anyway.

My range belt/“battle belt” set up has a holster, mag pouch,flashlight,multi-tool and IFAK so it just gets staged near my bed and does double duty as my Home defense belt as well...one click gets you from zero-to-hero lmao(With the proper training/practice of course)
