It wasn't about a tree, but about 2 Americans killed. We, as Americans, usually don't treat our military people as expendable. They are us.

Precisely, I don't think enough was done. Two Americans were unjustly killed.

Yeah. After listening to this video the first time with Nick, I looked up the incident online. It was absolutely brutal what the North Koreans did to those two American Officers. In earlier times, that alone would have been enough provocation to start a war. Instead America showed great restraint, while still giving North Korea a black eye and a reminder about FAFO.

None of this was about a tree. It was over 2 dead Americans and delivering a response over their deaths without actually starting a war.

I was indirectly involved in this. The MPs came to town and herded us on cattle cars and forced us to return to our barracks. The immediately gave us our orders and told to pack our duffle bags. We were headed to Korea. We were told N. Korea shot and killed 3 of our officers on the DMZ. They loaded us up on busses to ship us to where the planes were waiting to take us to Korea. However, before we reached the planes N. Korea apologized and we returned to our barracks. Although, we were confined to quarters in case N. Korea did something else stupid. About 10-15 soldiers went AWOL and bcuz it was a time of war they were picked up and went to prison for desertion.

No, this was making a POINT. It was & wasn't over a tree. N.Korea boy, and I MEAN BOY, got a 'tude & went too far trying to prove a different, but similar point. But they didn't have the ability to back it up, USA did. If you guys haven't done the The Infamous Eager Beavers & Their Custom B17 Bomber - Old 666 you should, but it is his longest one I'm aware of (on his channel) 35:09, but it is very good as is the Wake Island one, and the Jake McNasty Anti-hero one. all by TFE.

It started out as a tree, then 2 unarmed NATO peacekeeping personnel were killed who just happened to be US service personnel for supervising a tree trimming work detail by North Korean soldiers with clubs who beat them to death… simple facts - 2 human beings lost their lives who definitely were someone’s sons they possibly could have been someone’s brothers or they might even have had children of their own… Simple unanswerable question - what is a human life worth? To their parents? To their siblings? To their children? The value of everything they might have been able to accomplish throughout their lives… that’s what a lot of us US citizens think and feel about our service personnel… They’re not just some people… they are us. And a lot of people in the US even feel that way about non-US citizens who lose their lives in incredibly horrific situations. We don’t want to rule the world, we don’t want to take away anyone’s individuality, but we do want you to have long, happy, prosperous and productive lives. We would love to meet as many of you as we possibly can because the more we see the more we realize, WE ARE ALL just people trying to make a better life for our children without being a detriment to anyone around us.

The operation wasn't just about the tree, or the officers who were killed; Pentagon brass believed that if we sent another detail to remove the tree, the KPA would use the incident as a pretext to invade S. Korea, hence the shiw of force. In addition to all of the aforementioned operations going on, 12 C-130 cargo planes were sitting on the runway at Osun airbase, in Japan, with their engines turning so they were ready to take off immediately if the word was given. They were loaded with enough supplies to run ab infantry division for 30 days. The choice of the C-130s being significant because they can drop their loads without landing via Low Altitude Parachute Extraction Systems (LAPES) and immediately fly away to be reloaded. What TFE didn't mention was that the American officers were hacked to death by the KPA. Only five of the people in the work detail were assigned to cutting down the tree and they were civilians. As soon as the NKs started crossing the bridge, these guys dropped their tools and ran away. The KPA picked up the axes and caught the captain and hacked him up, and the Lueteinant hid in a ditch, across the road from the melee, but after a few hours, thr KPN found him and killed him also.

I was there, the MPs escorted some Korean workers to trim the tree because some of the branches were blocking the view to the guard post at the bridge. The guard post the bridge and another guard post, the US MPs escorted the Korean civilian workers to trim the tree, not to cut it down, and North Koreans got upset about that and attacked them, a few days later, it was decided to cut the whole tree down, and we were alert. We were in our positions with weapons loaded, and the engineers and the infantry in , cut the tree down, and that’s when everything was divided in half .

From my google search, NK wouldn't have nuked back then:
"North Korea's nuclear weapons program dates back to the 1980s. Focusing on practical uses of nuclear energy and the completion of a nuclear weapon development system, North Korea began to operate facilities for uranium fabrication and conversion, and conducted high-explosive detonation tests."

Here's two reaction suggestions for you two, both from TFE:
"The Old Bastards - The 77th Infantry Division" a division which was stood up during WW2 that comprised entirely of draftees with the average age of 30 that became the most effective US combat force in the Pacific Theater.
And "The Angels - The 11th Airborne Division" the only Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater and is credited with the most perfect airborne operation, ever, for their raid of the Los Banos internment camp.

“Det Cord” ( used with explosive in the military ) is cheap, and is how the U.S. military takes down a tree. With that in mind; we ( USA ) could’ve wrapped the tree’s trunk with some Det Cord and dropped that tree. It would’ve happened fast and relatively quiet. This mean this who,e incident was a show of force from both sides. It also showed how stupid and unknowing the isolation of North Korea was. Most countries would have known that the Americans could and would react with overwhelming force!

as to why it took the North Koreans nearly starting an all out war with America before they finally agreed to split the jsa. I’d wager it all pretty much came down to pride, as to the leaders simply agreeing to split the jsa would’ve been no different then surrendering without a fight which would’ve been seen by their people and their rivals as a sign of weakness and enough of a reason to have said leaders forcibly removed.

They don't really have any useful nukes now. Their rockets don't work and they don't have any air-dropped variants. Best they could do is drive one to the border in a truck. They could foolishly start something, but after the first one malfunctions the game is still on.

1:00 That's not communism. N Korea broke from Marxism-Leninism in the 1970s and adopted the Juche ideology, which they declared distinct. North Korea is a totalitarian regime whose leader considers himself a Demi-God. Fat Electrician: "I'm just going to respond by saying that's not real capitalism." The reason things are crappy today is entirely because people didn't study international failures of the past. It's extremely important to remember this stuff so it doesn't happen again down the line. If portraying these events in a lighthearted way helps people remember them then so be it.

What's wrong with history? Good or bad, it should be told. At least someone is telling it in an entertaining way that people enjoy and are learning from. If we don't learn from it, we're doomed to repeat it. Which is part of the worlds problem today, people like you who want to ignore and forget history. So here's a thought. It may be tough to follow, so reread it if you get lost along the way. So here we go; If you don't like something, much like you do with history, ignore it and move on.
