Here is the break down, The speed of sound (Mach 1) varies with altitude and temperature. If an aircraft is travelling at the speed of sound at sea-level then its speed will be 661 knots (760 miles per hour) or if it is travelling at the speed of sound at 30,000 feet then its speed will be 589 knots (677 miles per hour).

As we increase speed beyond Mach 1, the relationship with the speed of sound is not linear. Instead of being proportional, it becomes exponential.
Mach 1 is equal to the speed of sound.
Mach 2 is not simply twice the speed of sound; it is faster due to the compressibility of air.
As we move toward Mach 3, Mach 4, and beyond, the relationship becomes increasingly complex and nonlinear.

Fun fact about the predecessor, SR-71, the interesting design for the fuel tanks meant that the aircraft would actually leak fuel when it was on the ground.
They specifically designed it like this because, at the time, we didn't have a way to seal the tanks with a material that would maintain a seal at both sea level and at its max ceiling height and cruise speed.
On the runway, it leaks. On takeoff, it leaks. When its flying, it doesnt.
Because of this, they used a special fuel specifically made for it, the fuel being designed to require an extremely high flashpoint temperature to avoid any possible accidental fires on the ground. Even the engines warming up and firing on the takeoff would not cause external fuel on the ground to ignite.
There was also a myth going around that the SR-71's airframe would actually stretch by over a foot while at max speed because of thermal expansion. This isn't true. Torrey Larsen (from Skunk Works) determined that, at most, it stretches less than 2 inches. Still crazy, but definitely not as much as a whole foot or more.

What Ever is Unclassified is already old technology.

    • @PenTheMighty
      @PenTheMighty Месяц назад +4

I wouldn't call it "old". Just because you have one or even a few super advanced craft means nothing if you can't utilize logistics to properly field them (see Russia's SU-57). Prototyping, testing, and future-proofing a design is just 1/3rd of the process. Second is contracting manufacturers to make the prototype at scale. Then you have to test the production models to ensure they're on par with the prototype (or even improve the design further). Then they have to be integrated into US battle doctrine. Then pilots have to be trained to not only use it but push the craft to its full capabilities.
And the capabilities are then compared with rival peer state equivalents, if they exist. The F-22, as an example, is still "new" by world standards because there is no comparison in any other nation's inventory that has the same numbers as the F-22 (187 in US so far) and any craft that are close are still not as effective or advanced as the F-22 (there is a reason the US doesn't sell them to any allies). The Darkstar might as well be a UFO from another planet to nations like China and Russia, they have nothing remotely close.
What's scary is what we have that no one knows about that is waiting to be scaled into production.
It's interesting that there is probably an entire treasure trove of futuristic gear, systems, and craft that are just gathering dust at Skunkworks because we didn't have the infrastructure or resources to scale up production.

Another reason the SR 71 carried to weapons was because it's not practical to fire a weapon if the plane can outrun it's own munitions. Also, the likelihood was high that the SR 71 would run into its own bullets or missiles, if they did use them, since we didn't have have missiles fast enough.

Mechanical Engineer who has worked in the defence industry. The Mach Number is defined by the ratio of speed divided by the speed of sound of the fluid. M=V/a where: M=Mach number V=Velocity and a=speed of sound of the fluid. a can be calculated as the square root of the Gamma x R x Temperature. For air its about 340 to 360 metres per second. For a different fluid for example water at room temperature, the speed of sound is around 1400 metres per second. For our conversation we will stick with air. So when the velocity V = 360 m/s and a = 360 m/s then M=360/360=1, hence Mach 1. The Mach number does not have units as both V and a have units of m/s and they cancle each other out. hope that helps

This plane is entirely black on paper. Meaning it doesn’t exist. It’s funded entirely secretly by who knows. I only know it exists because of rumors online. This plane is the follow-up to the legendary SR-71 Blackbird. This can easily outrun any missile or rocket fired on it plus it’s titanium meaning it’s heatproof. This plane is beyond fast to speeds not really seen before.
The SR-71 was mostly a plane that spied on the former Soviet Union although it saw use when they tried moving across afghan territory.

According to Leo AI from brave browser: Q: How fast is mach 6 in mph
A: Mach 6 is a speed of 6 times the speed of sound. The speed of sound varies depending on the air density and temperature, but for our calculation, one Mach is equal to 761.207 mph.
    Calculating Mach 6 in mph
To calculate Mach 6 in mph, we multiply the speed of sound by 6:
    6 x 761.207 mph = 4,567.42 mph

FYI, Mach is the speed of sound and is not a set value as the speed of sound varies at different air densities. The higher the air density, the lower the MPH/KPH required to reach the speed of sound. At 15° C (59° F) the speed of sound is approximately 340.3 meters per second (761.23 MPH / 1225.1 KPH)

When they do stop flying, they will almost certainly go into "type 1000" storage, where they will be kept in a climate-controlled storage in near-airworthy condition so that it can be put back into service at any time with minimal work needed to do so.

A laser is a beam of light. The more focused it is, the hotter it is. And light travels at light speed. Think about when a missle is shot, it takes seconds or even minutes to reach its target. The target has time to try to evade. With a laser, it travels at the speed of light. If it is aimed correctly there is no evasion. When the trigger is pulled, the target is destroyed. Now, back that laser with a computerized targeting system and you can shoot down multiple targets so quickly they don't have a chance.
