Looks awsome man. Good job .
You might want to look through some of the older comics stuff with scout troopers, especially the ones with the Imperial Remnant. The ponchos is something they tend to do a lot, combined with camo paint for their armor
That brown base colour looked almost perfect honestly - I think the highlighting on the rocks was just a bit too much
A rebel army could allow for some wild conversions
They don’t give many of any extra parts with legion.
True dat, although I 3D print a ton, I swap SO many of my units out with alien breeds and it's a cool twist most of the time.
@@tennesseedogpack hahaha I have a lot of ziploc bags of extra parts from my legion stuff, I convert almost every unit.
Same with clones like each new show with get a dozen new variants of them.
Clones and droids also leave a lot of room to customize with paint schemes. I think imperial storm troopers are really the only ones that don't have a lot of color variations.
The tally marks aren't counting kills. They're counting hits 💀
Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise. 🤓
Lasers in Star Wars are always lethal, except when they shoot protagonists, so they are hits and kills!
yes yes, u only watched the movies and didnt even pay enough attention to it to know that stormtroopers were much better than any rebel soldier and been trained by clone troopers who were already great shooters
@@red0tf285movie do them so dirty
still though, empire might have won if they had stuck with clones@@red0tf285
Dried out wet wipes actually make fantastic canvas ponchos for minis.
I also use coffee filters as ponchos for my snipers/troops. It adds a bit of thickness/stiffness to the poncho and has great cloth texture!
If you give it a lovly skin tone and cover in the blood technical paint. You can also make excellent flayed skin using coffee filters and dried wet wipes
I found an ancient guide for space marine capes that I followed for ponchos on my clones (2003 clone wars style). It was literally just the cheapest kind of tissue paper (That isn't textured with pockmarks) you fold over itself 2 or 3 times, cut out into a square, poke a hole in it, put it on, and brush 1:1 water:PVA glue mixture over it, using your brush to tuck and fold it onto the mini. Costs virtually nothing and looks amazing.
Do you have a link to any tutorials? :)
If you really want to customize an army from star wars, clone troopers are your best option.
They come in a variety of colors and troops so you can add them anything you want (armor bits, guns, you name it)
There are also about 9 billion STLs with everything from Desert to Snow to Galactic Marines.
That's one of the reasons I love Legion and the Star Wars lore. There are years of history that need to fill the gaps and with a little bit of imagination and effort, anyone could easily create some really unique armies. Just because Disney owns it, doesn't mean the fans have to 100% accept it
@yeayea7483 Go cry into a blanket some where else. There are people trying to make something good out of something bad here.
@@SupMamma88🫡🫡🫡
@yeayea7483 how sad it is to stop enjoying something because someone else took a shit on it
@@bobbirdsong6825yes. But things like the mandalorian rogue one or bad patch came out from disney.
I adore this approach. Clones appealed to me a lot more as a kid because when I was doing custom figures or fanart, I could paint them however I wanted. But as I grew older, I gained much more of an appreciation for the heavily regimented appearance of the Imperial rank-and-file, with their minimal changes to fit the battlefield they were fighting on. Working within these constraints, yet still adding personal artistic flair, is refreshing BECAUSE of the limitations, not in spite of them. I adore your work, and these guys look great.
I'll be honest, Star Wars Legion was a game that always interested me, but was discouraged because it just didn't allow for the creative freedom of Warhammer. It's cool to see how there are methods to actually make a Stormtrooper just as awesome as a Space Marine.
I think there is still a lot of untapped potential with customization kits and alternative parts for many standard units, especially for Clone Troopers. People would go crazy for it if they actually released some official conversion parts like GW did for certain Marine chapters. But in the meantime, third party sculptors and 3d-printing are happy to fill that void along with people doing some old school conversion work just like in the video.
I paint my Imperials as Imperial Remnants. That way you can really go wild with colours as each warlord could deviate heavily on equipment
Great idea@@Wierdfish-ry9oq
Nah, you can do all kinds of crazy painting. I struggled for soooo long trying to make white stormtroopers and everything by the movie. Once I did army themes... man did my love for painting them take off. I have a mountain dew army for instance. Red stormtroopers, colored dewbacks, it was SUPER fun
It's a shame that Warhammer has people so closed minded with conversions
I’ve seen some wild conversions for Turnip 28. Now THAT game is proper grimdark.
I added Black cloaks and made Mimban Stormtroopers , they came out fantastic . I painted the troopers white , then glossed them . The added then wash over the entire mini , I added a tiny bit of blue to the black wash . They came out really nice
This is why I love playing as clone troopers. Like space marines, they have countless legions with their own color schemes and designs. I made mine based off the 41st elite (the guys we see with Yoda and the Wookies during the battle of Kashyyyk in Episode 3).
With Stormtrooper Corps/GAR you can actually do custom heraldry as a custom homebrew legion. With CIS, you can similarly paint your droids in any way you want and say they're security forces of some particular world/company and wear its livery. And rebs are insurgents and terries, they can look like anything really. The real problem with SWL is that its kits lack the posability and cosmetic options that make GW's kits (and many historicals) so great.
I’ve completely avoid painting any Legion minis because I’m such a Star Wars fan that I’ll only disappoint myself because I know what everything looks like and the anxiety will be overwhelming. You’ve inspired me, I’m going in!
I’ve enjoyed painting legion precisely because there is an initial starting point for most kits. I don’t have to mull over what colours to pick for my stormtroopers, so I can just get down to painting, and once I’ve got the base down, I can decide whether or not to add some further details
@@SockimusPrime I gave in, I bought the Obi-Wan/Vader duel set for Shatterpoint today. It’s gonna be a fun paint! I may just forego Legion and jump on the Shatterpoint train.
i've found that star wars legion minis are so much more enjoyable to paint than warhammer minis for me. it's mostly because the star wars legion minis aren't absolutely cluttered with tiny little details.
These models would also be good to try using oil paints. Mended Brush Studio has some great videos about painting these with oils.
@@ecMonifysm doesnt really have that thankfully, but boy do i empathize with gsc and horde army players having to paint like 30 models for one unit
Just some suggestions:
Give that officer a sweet Krennic poncho as well.
Give that ship thing some imperial flags (can't have fascism without an absurd amount of obsessive patriotism).
Just slather that Imperial Army soldier in as much brown texture paint as you can to show that they are really in the mud.
Put some volleyballs and other beach equipment on the bases of those beach troopers, and put some sunblock on them so that they have that real beach smell.
This might be heresy, but put some gloss varnish on those death troopers to make them look shiny.
Take the red Imperial guards and place them somewhere you will never find them since they did nothing in the movies.
Take the tank off its base, flip it over, and have it upside down like the rebels flipped it in an attack.
Give one of the speeder bike guys a bruised baby Yoda in a brown bag.
The trick I've found to making sure your basing recipe stays the same between projects is to use Model Railway materials - I posted a picture of a mini I made as a kid nearly 20 years ago to a model scenery subreddit recently asking "Does anyone know how I can get this same effect as on this model?" and someone *_actually recognised the brand_* and the same company still makes it. Some of those companies have been around decades, so it's really easy to get the same stuff consistently!
Legion is already better than 40k cause it’s super simple to play and pick up and there’s plenty of conversion options and 3D prints just have to put in the time just like 40K conversions
You did a really good job of making troopers that have to go out ahead of a formation blend into their sounds better. I like to go off my head canon and EU stuff so that how I best enjoy Star Wars these days since Disney really ruined the IP.
Anime-inspired Guard.
Tanith First and Furry.
There are some pretty cool imperial army designs online for stormtrooper replacements on the board. Like the army troopers, they are much closer to 40ks guard as they can be customized per system army like with the mudtroopers, imperial navy, or sector forces like the milita from battlefront 2. If you wanted to really go out there with some ideas from legends several warlords did have unique uniforms for imperial armies and even something like the concept art from mando season 1 has good interpretations of stormtroopers that had been cut off from reinforcements. I absolutely adore your custom works and starwars is my all time favorite so i hope to see more on this subject!
amazing work! I have never thought of making ghillies like that, super cool
Not to be pedantic, but you would be a Seamster not a seamstress
small thing to note: those red markings indicate imperial shock troopers, they're the imperial guard on Coruscant so they wouldn't really make sense being on Korriban if you keep that theme.
Those micro-tufts on the cloaks add so much to the scouts.👍
The entire Star Wars franchise would've been extremely different if ANY of those Imperial soldiers had brought a single flamethrower on Endor. They were definitely in the armory at the time since flamethrowers were used by clone troopers and the Mandolorians.
Excellent conversion!
I've also camo'ed up my scout troopers. Your cloaks look much better than what I accomplished; I tried a more ghille suit approach. One thing that I found that works excellent for rifle wraps are cut strips from tea bags instead of just basic paper strips. Tea bag paper has a texture that looks closer to what real wraps are made of.
Your videos always help inspire me to get painting. Now if only I could stop buying more to add to the pile of shame...
Making Star Wars Legion as cool as 40k? You bought the models, so it’s done. Already cooler
Star Wars Armies > Warhammer 40k Armies
Not in the slightest
@@mr_hairy_bacon35640k wishes it could be star wars.
Once you get passed the movie accurate paint jobs, Legion painting becomes so fun. My icicle blizzard force and mountain dew imperials are the most fun ive had paitning in a while. I apply the same thought to my MESBG, and just have a ball!
My Legion Army contains a few conversions, whilst they are kept fairly simple.
I have two squads of Phase 2 troopers painted in my custom 208th legion veteran colour scheme (Grey and Red markings), one of which is a kitbash of the P1 and P2 kits, in-order to prevent my squads from looking to uniform.
Three squads of Phase 1 Troopers, fitted with phase 2 heads and painted as 'Shineys' with only the squad leaders painted in 208th colours, and built by mixing various parts from other kits for the reason mentioned above.
I also intend too, though haven't yet, built some imperial scout bikes (74z) as Republic variants as companion to my BARC Speeders
I like how in A new hope the storm troopers all look perfectly immaculate in space (decontaminated), but planet-side they're rugged and covered in dirt and dust and look like they've been on a long tour of duty.
the red armor you painted on your one trooper is referred to as a shock trooper. They are specialized to use different types of special weapons during combat.
Yay! A Star Wars legion video! With the flow of 40k content recently, I’m super excited to see a return to the galaxy far, far, away. This video kind of encapsulates my feelings about Legion- I LOVE playing it, but I love the modeling portion of 40k so much more. Great video as usual, looking forward to hopefully seeing some more of Jay’s imperial army in the future.
using only paints, I made my Scout Troopers into Storm Commandos as they essentially wear the same armor but black and Made them grimy and muddy for an RPG campaign and I love them. I don't think I have been as proud until I made my own squad of Clone troopers and homebrewed the 117th expeditionary Battalion.
You can also paint some scout troopers as Storm Commandos, if you wanna add to the range of visual interest. Really slick looking conversion.
SWL has one of the biggest 3D printing community's of all tabletop games and many of these communities work together on projects and kit bashing and unlike GW you don't get shit on for using 3D printed stuff as proxies along as you follow so basic guidelines regarding bases. The company behind SWL has said themselves that the SW universe is so large that they will more then likely never get out every race or character people want and support 3D printed units as proxys. I have an entire alien rebel army, a airborne clone trooper army etc. I think comparing SWL to 40k doesn't really work as SWL is a rank and file setting regarding units, closer to imp guard then space marines. There's tons of great custom paint jobs out there to make ur squads come to life and with modular 3D printing parts in there thousands you can make epic conversions
I mean I would say There is more Battalions in the Clone wars Era then the Galactic Civil War era. The 501st is just one of many Battalions with different painting.
In terms of Star Wars Legion, the GAR seems great because there's so many different Clone Legions you pick to paint your dudes as and you can make them all unique paint schemes inside that one theme.
Sure 40k is bigger and more “creatively free” than Legion. But Legion is 10x easier to get into, teach others, and pick up.
The muscular guy from the Bad Batch looks like a consequence of WH40K and SW interacting
Some of the favourite fanworks are those that take real life concept and apply them to star wars, ghillie capes being a prime example.
If you've ever seen any of Edouard Groult's artwork he does "Realism Starwars" very well.
I love what you're doing here, introduces some much needed customisation! The biggest thing for me with Star Wars Legion is honestly the quality of the models. People always complain about the cost of GW models, but outside of the battle force boxes Star Wars is more expensive and the size and quality of the models is noticeably worse. If anyone interested is reading this don't let that discourage you. If you're a fan they're great models to collect an army of, and the games mechanics are great.
I hadn’t realized the price creep had caught up to GW. When I played legion the troops were about half the cost of a box of 40K troops. Yikes.
I cashed out after AMG took over everything and have been happy sticking to the 41st millennium
You mean making well thought factions and lore of star wars as stupid and overpowered as 40k? Nah.
If you want lore accurate very creative empire, imperial remnants are the way to go, by the time of the fall of the empire stormtroopers were allowed to fully customize there armor, simply because the imperial agency in charge of monitoring stormtroopers wasn't a thing anymore, also for an um aktually note, stormtroopers are not apart of the imperial army, those are the ground troops in solo not in stormtrooper armor, they are less well trained, and far less well disciplined, while all stormtrooper variants come from the stormtrooper core, which is much more similar to the marine core in desighn, they man spaceships and mount expeditionsz then they also guard the most important facilities, the fact you never see the more common soldiers comes down purely to marketability of the stormtrooper
Use the universe as inspiration, not "the movies". Dig into the massive, massive Star Wars lore and come up with something new but fitting!
I don´t like Star Wars anymore but this project rocks! Good job.
Same I don’t really like Star Wars anymore
Not to assume your gender Jay, but technically the term for a male is seamster.
Lol but empire units aren't supposed to be unique they are supposed to be uniform
The cool factor of stormtroopers for me is the uniformity the faceless hordes of soldiers is cool to me
If they’re on koraban shouldn’t the ground be a reddish orange?
I love your Legion content and hope to see more of your progress on these imperials. As someone who's never been very good at kitbashing and converting, the 3D printing scene for Legion has breathed so much life into this game for me. For imperials specifically, the remnant troopers from Skull Forge and just about anything from Squamous Miniatures are really something special if you want to add some uniqueness to your army.
I know this title is clickbait but Star Wars is cooler than 40k
What are you talking about? Warhammer 40k tries too hard
...OK now I want to see Star Wars: Liberace style.
You could have used actual fabric instead of green stuff
Yeah more Legion content. It's such a great game
Empire is about pure likeness of everything, clean industrial design.
This "every soldier have unique color" is quite childish and tasteless, like gi joe.
The thing i never like about clones in sw
Anime guard? You just described the tau
The scout troopers look really great good job . How did you make those bases they look really cool too ?
I'm pretty sure he just has like... 3 different tubs of basing materials. Sifted by size so he can start with dropping a few pebbles, then he just goes through the other two in descending order of fine size.
I will admit that I could be remembering a different Creator's method
no, you're right, he showed it in his videos about his black templars@@zephyrstrife4668
those cloacks are amazing! thanks for the inspiration!
My Empire army operate on desert planet so troopers (storm/scout/snow) have brown cloths and bone/sand armor (the same brown wash over all) because it's easier than white for avoiding been killed (and also easier to paint).
Vador, Palpatine, Krennic, Deathtroopers and Inferno Squad (maybe Veer to) gets their standard colors because they don't care to be seen.
After watching "Andor" I'll painted my Imperial Officer as Dedra Meero.
In the Starwars universe the Imperial Army can have multiple schemes for troopers, not just what we see in both trilogy.
So fun fact, there are a few special branches of Scout Trooper. There are the mid era Swamp Troopers, which are basically green Scouts, and there are the Storm Commandos, which are black Scouts that specialize in sabotage and also piloting. (Literally Inferno Squad but EA completely ignored this and made Inferno look like TIE pilots for no reason). As for Stormtroopers, don't sleep on the TFU Stormtrooper Commander, his off center blue stripe is #sicc
I thought SW Legion was replaced by SW Shatterpoint just like Legion replaced Imperial Assault.
Some ideas you can do is taking the Stormtrooper variants and painting them with different Legends trooper types like Storm Commandos or Novatroopers.
Another one is you could go outside current canon and paint them with different unit markings/Legions. I know it's not exactly current canon, but in games like (the good) Battlefront 2 and Force Unleashed you had stormtroopers with unique markings blue for Stormtrooper commanders
You need to watch more starwars
I really should wear my glasses. I thought this was, "Making Star Wars LEGO as COOL as Warhammer 40k!!!!" I was thinking some grimdark LEGO painting.
I think the fact that variety is so deliberately baked into the Warhammer setting is what gives people license to innovate and personalise. They did not need to put so much effort into creating unique identities for recolours of the same faction, but they did, and because of that it feels like you can too.
Star Wars has some of this, and tbh I think that's a big part of why the GAR is generally more popular than the Empire, but even then the movies show massive variety between Stormtrooper units. The sandtroopers in episode 4, snowtroopers in episode 5, scouts in episode 6, and not to mention all the other varieties of Tie Fighter pilots, Death Star troopers, beachtroopers etc, clearly the groundwork for specialisation is there.
I think if FFG wanted to push for more creativity, it would help if they put personalisation front and centre of their marketing as GW does. Of course, that is much easier for Warhammer where the creative rights are fully self contained within one company, unlike Star Wars. It may be that they want to offer greater ability to customise your armies, but they need to get clearance from Lucasfilm/Disney.
Liberace you say?
Sure, a Slaaneshi Space Marine army in Liberace styles is an obvious idea, but that's boring. What faction would make for a challenge to do in Liberace styles?
I want to play star wars legions but I don't wna buy the minis I prefer working with 40k minis. Plus Lego is fairly to scale with minis so I feel like after 20 years Lego army building I should be allowed to use my minifigures and sets in place of minis.
You could make your stormtroopers armor tan or brown with dirt. There was a real story from Afghanistan of US soldiers purposefully staining their new UCP uniforms with mud so they'd blend in better. I could believe stormtroopers doing the same to their snow white armor so it doesn't stick out as much.
I'd love to see a WH40K vs Star Wars Legion tabletop match where 2 players try to balance things out (movement units and rules) and make a video about it (Wh40K stomps but it would be nice to see how much units SW needs compared to 1 10 100 Wh40k units.
Well, the good thing is unlike gw, with legion you can use 3d printed models, and honestly I did go and added just a little costum here and there, like giving my officers tan colored unigorms because I have all of them desert bases, or painting my AT-ST, with the british ww2 desert camo. I also gave my imperial special forces skull "facepaint" for their helmets and calling them Reaper squad. I also WONT be gibing shoretroopers the red armband because I realized its only there to make them look like the nzis, but I will paint sharkteeth on their helmets simmilar to the Spitfire noseart, and call then Firaxis, or shark squad.
Please more legion stuff
I would love to see a Mandalorian Army... or some spicy Republic Commandos for the Republic Army. Are there any in SW Legions?
Check out the Bad Batch and the Clone Wars cartoons. They worked hard on making recognizable troopers in that with bits, bobs and shoulder pauldrons.
As for the whole 'just vomiting creativity' there seems to be this backlash against the one thing artists of ALL types use...References. There's a reason why most artists will have an image board of things they're focusing on when they create. Want to make a cyberpunk power armor image? Go grab yourself some cyberpunk images, look them over, put the ones you like onto an imageboard and then take bits and pieces from each, effectively creating an amalgam of all the things.
Those cloaks look amazing! I enjoy watching your videos and seeing how you transform a bland model into something amazing. Awesome work!
Wouldnt you be "quiet the seamster" ? 😐.
I went down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out why that seemed off in my brain thinking, wouldn't he be a tailor but now just found out that seamster is a thing. Learn something new everyday.
Now a Liberace Stormtrooper that would be something. A pink jumpsuit, huge fur coat and massive pimp rings. And he would play the Star Wars theme on a grand piano.
Yeah you see. As much as I love 40k
It's a chaotic mess of factions. Whereas the empire is one unified machine. But they still have different armors. I honestly prefer having a more unified look over the circus that is 40k
But 40k was made to be a game first. So the colors make sense
If you want a cool starwars legion as mentioned already: Clone wars era clonetroopers
Squad makings bro. They don't have to be directly from the movies. You can make them early stormtroopers who still have the clone legion makings and colors. You can have them be planet or station troops. Who have color additions for rank or the planet their posted too. They can be post empire troops. So their armor can be painted from PlanetSide colors, or Mando inspired paints. Like there's a ton of inspiration you can take from legends, and the expanded universe as a whole. Like my Mando army is painted as Clen Fett and Mando Crusaders. There is a lot you can do.
This one time, at band camp. I mean DunDraCon, I took my unit of Eldar Rangers and infiltrated them into a convenient wooded area right outside my opponent's deployment zone.
Then we both entirely forgot about them for the whole game. Until I was packing up and noticed the empty spot in my case.
It's true. I wanted to get into it... But it's so lame! I dunno. It just lacks the OOMPH of 40k and fantasy.
Would have bought a pallet straight away, but shipping alone is $20 (nearly $30) 😢
Best version of this Star Wars box would be the clone wars. It got so many things, people, colors, designs and importantly droids that it’s a crime they never fucken utilize it
Back in the 70s, Sheperd Paine (think that's name) he built dioramas for Monogram Models, he made capes and tarpaulins out of tissue paper and diluted white glue.
Excited to see how this develops. ❤
Star wars stormtroopers and clone troopers have millions of different factions, colour and designs u should check out the comic books stuff 👀👀, fantastic job on these tho 🔥
I've got a full like 2200 points of GAR and I've never played a game with them lol. I just prefer empire and rebels.
It sounds like you were describing the Imperial Storm Commandos, who were elites who were recruited directly from the Imperial Scout Troopers.
This was a super enjoyable video. I think what you did with the scouts was super cool and has inspired me to try something similar with my own legion minis. I very much enjoy all of your legion content, please keep it up!!!
Ngl, I loved the not so subtle nod to Mr Showmanship himself haha! Next up you should have a squad of troops inspired by Liberace himself hehe
I love what you did with these scouts! So much so that your scouts will soon be OUR scouts. (Making some for myself, not stealing to be clear)
I have no idea why but i LOVE scout troopers. There is just somethin about them that is sooo hood lookin. Now Scout Troopers with ponchos... ur onto sumthin🧐😂 good stuff
If you want to add colour to your leigon army, may i suggest giving your stormtroopers pauldrons and their survival packs to up variation, black pauldrons can be used for all troopers, though you could try a coppery red for a stormsurgeon and yellow for a rifleman. If you want to do a stormtrooper squad in the style of sternguard you could do a squad of feild stormtroopers.
(Edit) could do an assault stormtrooper squad, which is just a stormtrooper with yellow arm stripes and helmet markings.
Those teddy bears with sticks are nightmare fuel if you ever fought against them.
Just one slight quibble with this paint scheme - after putting so much effort into the ponchos/capes for camouflage, you blow their cover with the whopping great red targeting scope... 😂
To stop masking fluid ruining brushes, work the brush over a wet bar of soap first. Work the soap into the brush and then use it to paint masking fluid. It’s a trick I picked up from Watercolour artists videos on YT
If there were a Star Wars mini game that took place back in the time of the old republic when there were thousands of Jedi and Sith, there's so much more room for customization. I'll never understand why the time of the old republic and the war between the Sith and Jedi is never explored outside of a few video games. It would be hero hammer at another level.
You shall bless the algorythm but espically the emperor that this video was recommended to me and immediately took your channel to my liking
Congratulations: you earned yourself a new subscriber!
