- GhostRider is a wooden roller coaster, located at Knott’s Berry Farm, in California, USA. But the ride you see today wasn’t the attraction that opened all those years ago. In this video, we explore GhostRider's history, including its classic CCI origins and it was reborn by GCI.

Glad they went with GCI and not RMC to rehab it.
Outdoors With Shawn WHY?!?!
@@seansanders294 because that's Knotts' only wood coaster and should stay that way. Two, a wood coaster fits the whole area's decor.
Three, not every old coaster needs to become a RMC hybrid. The occasional bump and jolt of a wooden coaster makes them fun.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn I'm just glad it got rehab at all, I used to get a headache on this ride with the shake.
@@OutdoorsWithShawn yes finally someone says it wooden coasters need to stay that way to occasional bumps make it fun and enjoyable smooth coaster like B&ms don’t even feel like there moving
I’m not really a GCI train fan they really make ur teeth chatter bad
I think knotts made the right decision to make Ghost Rider a GCI
Agreed.
Its a cc
i but ok
@@jacobfullest no
Agreed
AirTime thrills considers ghost rider to still be a cci due to cci designing the layout and I agree with him
Damn you're not even gonna talk about the crazy laterals on this.
Crazy, crazy laterals. I was happy I rode solo, because I would've been falling all over whoever sat next to me.
Yeah, the laterals at the end are absolute MADNESS.
He hasnt ridden it
666flags Well yeah, obviously.
Yo especially the helix! That part's nuts!
This is the best wooden coaster in California no joke
Apocalypse at Six Flags Magic Mountain: Am I a joke to you?
Ghost Rider is still better imo
Coaster Dog apocalypse is good, can’t compete with gr though. It’s in a completely different league
@Coaster Dog literally just rode both last week. I get on gr almost every week. idk how its "stupid"
@Coaster Dog no airtime in the back on the drop off the mcbr? 100% of the time yeets me out of my seat, some of the strongest airtime in cali
I feel like there are already too many RMCs, so seeing GCI come in and revitalize the coaster was really awesome imo. It shows that there are more options besides RMCing every boring/rough wooden coaster
Yeah RMCs have become quite saturated in the States
rmcing a wooden coaster shouldn't be understated, though. the reason rmc has had so much success is because of their rides being so amazingly good, I do think that ghostrider is still a great coaster without rmc and it doesn't need that innovation. Maybe over time it would get progressively rougher and knott's decides to finally rmc it, and I think that would be good, but I just rode it a couple weeks ago and it still is very fun, although the roughness is a little more than it was.
@@coasterbot unless they built ghostrider with one of the worlds most unique coaster elements or inventing new things to make an actually good good rmc.
RMC GhostRider is a good question, but I think I'm going to advocate for the GCI makeover that the park did. Not everything has to be RMC'd, and while it probably would have been a fun ride, I think it would have lost some of the character of the area. I think it's currently one of the best "traditional" wooden coasters out there, and I wouldn't want to take that away.
Although now I'm thinking about RMC's funky pre-lift sections, and GhostRider has a lot of room to work with there. It's the most visible part of the ride from inside the park. That could have been fun.
I was glad they did a refurb but not the whole makeover they are popular for. Ghostrider is an amazing ride, just needed a little TLC. It doesn't need the barrel rolls to be fun.
I agree :)
@Pop Films the only RMC I've been on is Twisted Colossus, and I prefer GhostRider to that one by far (even though TC is a great ride).
I'm honestly so glad this was redone by GCI and not RMC. It was a good ride layout that just suffered wear and tear, rather than a mediocre coaster to begin with, so the retrack and reprofile really worked wonders on it.
Me too honestly!
Ghost Rider is my personal second favorite woodie, only behind el toro
Lightning rods better
Mr. Ultimate Everything lighting Rod is definitely enjoyable. That or Phoenix is my number 3. I can’t decide between the two
Voyage, Renegade, Beast, Mystic Timbers, Phoenix, e.t.c, then Ghostrider.
mine are El toro, Troy and Ghost.
What is GhostRider?
the best coaster at Knott's Berry Farm
Coaster Dog GhostRider is your seventh best at Knott’s? What’s above it for you?
Jorge B. Canchola true
Xcelorator is good too
You right
Hey - nothing beats the old Windjammer Surf Racers
Gonna finally get my ride on the refurbished version on MONDAY!
The old one was so rickety!
What is GhostRider? GhostRider is my all time favorite wooden coaster, maybe even my favorite overall. I rode it when I was a kid, summer '01. God I just realized... I'm like, thirty years old. Christ I'm an old man.
I remember this thing would really kick your ass, and riding in the back (Is that still the best seat btw? Unless you wanna queue for the front I mean? Seemed you'd get more lift, and seemed to sling you around turns quicker.) And this monster would whip the back cars around like a damn whip cracking.
The layout of this thing was just incredible to me. I'd seen Cyclones and I'd seen Scream Machines. If I remember rightly, building new wooden coasters at all wasn't something you saw much of, even.. So that kinda made this one that much more special, I guess. And this beast seemed to blend the best of both styles of wooden coasters.
Cheers for making at vid on this guy,
And sorry for the novella, there
It sounds like you need to go back and experience it once again! It certainly looks great. And no problem, thanks for watching :)
Jesus loves you
@@eri-qq5zy This I know.
I love this ride, I am so glad they didnt rmc it, Ghostrider is so smooth and has so much airtime on it as well, my third fav ride and i prefer it over X2
Awesome!
Before GCI reprofiled it this thing was pretty brutal. Now it's without a doubt the best ride in the park, although Xcelerator and Hang Time are still pretty great.
It looks so awesome now!
What is: Ghost Rider
One of my bucket list coasters. Looks amazing.
Coaster Fusion hi
Put X2 and twisted colossus on that list
Mr. Ultimate Everything I’ve ridden those coasters tho
Hangtime Studios hey
Oof
Over time, this has crawled into my top 25, 15, and soon 10. GCI is also my new favorite manafacturer.
GCI are great! :)
Woodies with good layouts shouldn't be RMC'd
Change my mind
Ghost Rider, is the best woodie on the west side of America
It certainly looks up there! :)
My favorite coaster in California, its just so good every time.
Awesome!
Ghostrider: the Best wooden coaster in the West! Thanks COASTER BOT for reviewing this wooden masterpiece!
No problem, thanks for watching!
It's a toss up between Xcelerator and this for best ride in the park
Understandable
Ghostrider easy 1st, Xcelerator 2nd, that launch still gets me every time though
Ghostrider easy, xalerator is like a 30 second ride, vs a 2 min 40 ride
Went to Knotts yesterday...it's an amazing ride. Terrible dispatch and soooo slow to load so the wait times are atrocious but it's so good it's worth the wait. Got the back car and it's intense!
Shame about the dispatches
I had the privilege of riding this around when it was built and years later after GCI retracked it. I loved it both times! The first time I went was during Knott's Scary Farm in 2000. I was so blown away by it. I rode it twice that night! Fast forward to 2016 and the ride had just opened after its retracking a month prior. I finally got to go on it again, and fell in love all over again. Knott's isn't one of the two parks I have annual passes to in Southern California (that would be Disneyland Resort and Six Flags Magic Mountain). But I'm aching to go again sometime real soon, just to ride this again! Also, I'm REALLY GLAD RMC didn't work on this. As much as I absolutely love RMC (Twisted Colossus is incredible) this needed to remain the way it was originally intended to be. CCI's creation is one of their best and unlike Colossus at Magic Mountain, its greatness will remain timeless.
It's pretty cool you've experienced it as both a CCI and GCI. I'm glad they didn't RMC it too :)
I was on this ride last month. Not even a minute and you go through a somewhat intense drop right before the big one. Very intense, but a lot of fun.
I only went to this park because I was staying nearby and was bored. I'm so glad I did, the park was empty and I had over 20 rides on it. This coaster is amazing. Easily one of the world's top woodies. I personally rate it above Voyage only behind Toro
RMC on this would’ve been sick! But I can for sure imagine why they wanted to keep some kind of family feel about it, it’s looks amazing! Definitely a bucket list coaster 😍
This ride always gives me a headache BUT it NEVER fails to give thrills and crazy laterals
SoCal, represent!
My first wooden coaster. Rode it in April of 2017 and I LOVED it!
Man I always liked the really bumpy feel of the coaster before it was redone, but I guess they had to in the end or it would've worn out even more
I wouldn’t have gone with RMC because of Twisted Colossus.
Iron Ghost Rider 😂
So much better after the redo. Knott’s could still use a ground-up RMC!
They don't have the room for that unfortunately.
@@poggorseal2726 They made room for a B&M Invert and also a huge woodie, so anything is possible.
@@kenfrancisworld8720 Ghost Rider was built when they had lots of space. Silver Bullet was crammed into the front of the park so I don't think they can build anything without removing anything
This is hilarious. Knotts celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2016 and their 100th in 2020.
I've actually ridden this ride! not since 2007 or so, but still. i didnt know it was refurbished. I need to go to Knotts to ride it, as well as Hangtime.
Definitely, Knott's looks great in general :)
What is ghost rider?
A FLIPPING AMAZING ROLLER COASTER!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for covering my ALL TIME FAVORITE coaster! It’s something of a Miracle that such a long coaster was even feasible for Knotts, since land inside the fairly small park is at a premium, and was only possible because they were able to extend the ride so far out into what was their auxiliary parking lot across the street from the actual park!
No problem, I can see why it's your favourite coaster :)
My parents told me that the Original GhostRider was so ruff that they would get bleeding noses. Thank God GhostRider got the retrack it deserved. I only rode the Original GhostRider before the retrack.
Nice video. I’ve always loved your videos.
Thank you, that means a lot :)
Didn’t the original PTC trains seat 42 riders? 7 cars x 3 rows per car x 2 riders per row = 42 riders.
Great video by the way! Also expect outstanding content from you, and you never fail to deliver!
Not quite. The PTC trains on Ghostrider were only 2 bench, not 3 bench.
Correction at 6:17: The graphic says the ride features 5,433 ft of track. This is wrong. The ride is 4,533 ft of track. Also, the ride was not retracked for Knott's 75th Anniversary as a whole. It was retracked for Ghost Town's 75th Anniversary.
The spiders have taken it over since closing.
I rode it when it opened and it's a legend. The ejector airtime on the drop right after the mid-course brake run was intense if you sit near the back. Haven't been on it in well over a decade though.
100% happy the park went with GCI.
I just recently rode this wooden coaster yesterday with single rider before this video came out, and this video talking about it is more interesting than it looks in person.
And correction: 2:00 The PTC trains were actually are 2 rows on each car and with 2 seats each row.
Great video as always! I think it’s cool that they stuck with the traditional wooden coaster feel.
Thank you, I agree! :)
I went on ghost Rider the first year it opened and I don't think I ever felt such an adrenaline rush as everything felt far heavier and faster than a steel roller coaster. Several years after it had opened I had tried to go on again and I was extremely uncomfortable as it felt like I was in an earthquake during more than half of the ride. They actually installed video cameras on this ride for a few years and because of its earthquake nature almost every single girl on the ride was getting pummeled in the face with you know what 😂, those cameras must have been really expensive but they ended up taking them out. they would play back video samples where you normally view your picture, the girls would be extremely embarrassed and you can always hear some guy laughing in amusement over the "show".
I've read that Knott's Berry Farm is actually the Cedar Fair park that has the highest attendance in the whole chain (being open year round helps!)
It's in a prime location too
Glad to see a proper refurb on this. The Rocky mountain conversions of wood coasters was fun at first but seeing literally every single one basically turned in to a steel coaster is getting a bit sad now =/
I agree to some extent. Some wooden coasters have a lot of potential just as that, wooden coasters. Others don't, like Walibi Holland and the Robin Hood conversion to Untamed :)
I have never ridden this coaster. But I like the principle of restoring a ride rather than giving up on it and replacing it with something new. I think the ride was special to the park and it shows that someone cares about it. I think they made the right choice.
I would like to see an RMC Wildcat in the future.
You've come a long way from your first post! Contagious!?! Maverick has even picked up a bit of your personality.
Make a what is Balder
I'll note that down, thanks for the suggestion :)
COASTER BOT i Got a COSTER BOT hudie this Christmas 🤩😁
That's awesome, I hope you love it! :)
And it's a 51 Degree drop. Not 71. If it were 71, that would be maddening!
The GCI retrack was absolutely the perfect treatment for this Southern California icon. It is easily the best woodie in the state, and maybe the whole west coast. The original CCI layout with the new GCI treatment complete with the Millennium Flyers make it an absolutely incredible woodie, and I'd much rather keep this forever than ever see it become some other hybrid. It regularly has 2 hour waits and for good reason; you can't find a woodie even close to this caliber within 400 miles.
It seems like a great combination, CCI and GCI! I'd love to ride it myself one day :)
Just got back from Knotts tonight and this was the last coaster of the day, and WOW. I completely underestimated it. This coaster is INTENSE. All of us were totally blown away by how fast and relentless it was. Amazing experience.
One of the best wooden coasters.
It was a good thing they didn't have rmc fix it.
This is my number 1 coaster.
Awesome choice!
Thanks!
I think if it was a hybrid, it wouldn't have fit the Ghost Town theming as well in my opinion. I mean if it was something like Steel Vengeance maybe, but I just feel like with Knott's Berry Farm, this should remain a wood coaster. Idk why but it just gives Knott's Berry Farm that classic ghost town feel. If that even makes sense.
Ghost rider is easily one of the best wooden coasters in california. No doubt! Could you make a video on the incredicoaster over in disney california adventure next?
We already have! :) ruclips.net/video/0IWijvCjPgc/видео.html
@@coasterbot ok. I somehow skipped over it tho
I work at Knott’s and this is the first ride everyone runs to besides Silver Bullet. It’s a good ride but it would be cool for a RMC hybrid
CCI is my fav manufacturer
6:17
The graphic should read "4533ft of track", though I wouldn't mind it being an extra 900ft longer :)
Good spot, sorry about that!
Omg it’s my home park. I
Love ghostRider
What an awesome home park to have! :)
I finally went to Knott's Berry Farm for the first time on 10/25/2022 and got to ride Ghost Rider while there. It's not real smooth. It's definitely gotten rougher over the years. I wish those flat beyond 180 degree turns were banked. I bumped my right elbow on one of them and ended up with a bruise that was sore for a few days after. I get the nostalgia for wooden coasters, but they're just too rough for me now.
Great video but you where talking about ghost rider after it’s retracing and said passes through the mid course but the mid course got removed in the retracting
It did get removed, but then got readded! As of 2019 there is now a functional mid-course brake run :)
I’ve heard about Knotts thinking about going with RMC before GCI. Everytime I go on it, I think, what could’ve been. Oh well, still an amazing ride :)
Even if they did go for RMC there would be a chance that it would just be a standard retrack like gci (RMC has offered standard retracks but none have taken it.) The small roughness adds to the ride and the rmc restraints would make the ride significantly worse
I went on that coaster almost on release back in late 90's and had a blast, it was awesome. Went again to sunny california many years later with my SO and... we left the ride very disappointed (and bruised) because it didn't age well as the video says. "A huge pile of crap" was probably the best description for the ride at the time. Not fun at all. I hope I get to test the new version someday !
I hope you do too, it looks like a lot of people love it once again!
Visiting knotts berry farm this summer. Definitely looking forward to riding this wooden masterpiece.
Love GhostRider the way it is..the new trains are excellent.
That's great news!
It's the biggest wooden roller coaster I've been on and it's the best ride in the park. Having said that: it's still not as good as Coaster at Playland.
How many coasters have you been on?
YES THIS RIDE
if i took a shot every time the words plummet and large 180 degree turn were said in this video i would have died of alcohol poisoning by now
You could do this for many more words, trust me ;)
Oh shit, I have to go back here then. I remember riding this ride and absolutely hating it because it was so rough, even needing to take off my glasses and hold them because they felt like they were going to be shaken off. I didn't know it had been revamped so I was very confused seeing all of these positive comments about it. I haven't gone since it reopened so I'll have to give it another go.
You definitely should, everyone says the redo is miles better!
I think I saw on a website once that Knotts turned to RMC but ended up choosing GCI.
I love your videos and ghostrider looks awesome but would be cool if they RMCed it
I've ridden ghostrider and I'm so happy it's not an RMC the laterals on this are insane.
I can understand the appeal there, and don't doubt it would be a decent ride, but that would be like, chippin off all the remaining bàs reliefs from the Parthenon to make room for the new Starbucks sign. I understand the Acropolis does in fact need a Starbucks, but why not just stick it in the Temple of Athena Nike?
Thank you! I think both results would have been awesome :)
Knott’s is my home park and I think it would have been better if they brought in RMC to redo it. Love the videos COSTER BOT KEEP IT UP!!!
Thank you that means a lot :)
COASTER BOT your my favorite RUclipsr can you please do what is west coast racers
I’ll give you guys a suggestion if you go on ghost rider and you want the fastest cart, go in the BACK. But it also hurts your back a little.
Wait...the first drop is not 71 degrees. It's 51 degrees. Also, the ride is only 4,533 feet long.
I live near knots and this has changed a lot but still the best there
Very cool 🤩🧱👍🏽
If you have gotten a night ride on this, you know why this ride is so hyped up.
Great video! This is such a fun intense roller coaster, it pulls so many gs and has so much airtime, best coaster there 100%, my only problem is THE LINES. If you head there first you still have to wait like 20min and the one train ops make you wait 10 minutes even if you get a frotd (And it's my home park btw)... my only problem with the park is the one train ops.
That’s nothing compared with the 3 hours We wait 3 days back but still was worth….
Excellent video! I’m in full hype mode lol
What Is: Gold Striker next, please!! 😁
Thank you! We'll note that coaster down :)
COASTER BOT thank youuu!!
Yes I’vee been on this epic airtime filled ride!
Awesome!
This is my personal 3rd favorite roller coaster, and 3rd at the park. (I haven't ridden many coasters outside of Knott's and Disneyworld)
Awesome! :)
Best coaster in Socal and SFMM is my local park.
Awesome!
I live in LA so Knott’s and Magic Mountain I guess?
For. coasters? Ysah,
I went to this ride yesterday so damn fast
Awesome!
I love this ride and it was the first wooden roller coaster I rode.
Awesome!
Just rode this today.
Isn't the angle of decent 51 degrees?
Nice.
I believe after the revamping of the ride, the mid course break run was removed.
It was removed but then reinstated! :)
COASTER BOT really? I swear I have never noticed it and I go to knotts almost monthly.
Why cant all wooden coasters do this just do a retrack without a conversion
I miss the pic of bugs bunny indicating if you put your hands up, they would be cut off... that was always fun
The pre-remake ghostrider was honestly more fun in some ways, you felt like you were going to get a concussion from all the shaking. However the brake run was ass
I think the right decision was picking GCI
Great vid. I would have liked to have ridden the original before the refurb. Completely different sub-topic; I want to know from anyone in the coaster community, was there ever an Arrow or Vekoma ride before 2000 that was good? I mean did Arrow ever build a coaster that was a great ride from the day it opened [brand new] to now - if it's still standing and the same goes for Vekoma [ignoring newer rides, just their older models]. I have not ridden any rides built by either company that I like. They are all rough, painful and poorly built/poor quality, and none that I know of have aged well at all. Please bear in mind my list of ridden coasters is a lot less/smaller than the majority of people I know online [youtubers who can travel and ride coasters frequently]. This is due to that fact that even getting around the UK to do the parks here is a day trip which needs forward planning and funds. No hate or bullying please, I'm asking for advice and/or opinions with names, locations and maybe some other info so I can research them on wiki [possibly]. Thank you :-)
A really good ride by arrow is Tennessee Tornado, while the Rock 'n' roller coaster rides by Vekoma are pretty great too. But, Vekoma have made leaps and bounds producing rides recently. They are much more than they used to be :)

FIRST! Are you going to paultons at any point next season?
*third
Zachary Nolan first*
Definitely, we haven't been before and would love to experience Storm Chaser and the new area of the park :)
@@coasterbotnice, maybe we might bump into each other if you go in May
Potentially! We'll be around quite a few UK theme parks this year :)
I have never been to Knott's
but I think it's soul was restored when GCI re-tracked it
