Gotta say, thank you for this video! Ever since I started getting into roller coasters on RUclips I've heard all of these element names. They all sounded exotic and in a way inaccessible to someone like me who has a limited knowledge of roller coasters in general. This really simplified it all for me and helped me better understand these element names and what they look like. I have to admit I'm still learning these terms and I'll probably be referring to this video a bunch when I watch roller coaster reviews. Thanks again!
No problem, there's definitely a lot of jargon out there so it can be heard to learn the terms! Best of luck with your roller coaster learning - thanks for watching :)
Great coverage. I would also add a note on how a lot of the element types and styles were tied to their manufacturers. For example, how the original Boomerang was made by Arrow and commonly became referred to as the "Arrow Boomerang" despite the first installation in the Orient Express at Worlds of Fun referring to it as the "Kamikaze Curve". Then there was the Vekoma Boomerang which gave birth to the B&M Cobra Roll. Also, Arrow's boomerang was comprised of two "sidewinders" and one installation had the second sidewinder exiting the opposite side of the prevailing direction of travel, resulting in the "Bowtie" element on Dragon Mountain from 1983. Admittedly, the more that element design became more fluid and versatile, and thus less modular, the differences between the manufacturers have dissipated and aren't as clear cut as they were from 1975 through about 1991.
I think heartline rolls are the most satisfying element for me, but I also really like off-axis airtime hills! With both elements, I LOVE watching the train go through them.
I've always had trouble Identifying certain elements. I've found myself calling all the inverting elements "barrel rolls" except for the loop or simply "inversions"

I kinda take a liking to the heartline roll. Its just rly interesting and its also the main part of what is probably my favorite ride overall (Cheetah Hunt). Bunny hills and their more extreme siblings (i forget the name lol) are also rly fun and I cant help but laugh every time. Good example being Mako Edit: idk if it would just be considered a normal but i also love that one special loop thing on Manta. Its so interesting when your in that position
Heartline rolls are a lot of fun! You're talking about the pretzel loop on Manta, they're meant to be one of the most intense roller coaster elements out there!
The only ride I've been on with a sea serpent roll is Medusa at Discovery kingdom, which gives a surprising amount of lateral gs for a floorless. Great ride, despite the lack of theming.
