Also : Galaxy 2 does not exist
I'm super disappointed, but also super unsurprised.
The Best One?! Fyou nintendont!!!
What about Galaxy 3🤔
Pain
Galaxy 2 does exist. I have it right behind me with my other Wii games. 🤣
I figured it would be emulated, especially when there were no enhancements like they've done with DS / 3DS ports.
Trivia: Nintendo tried running Galaxy on the 3DS, if I'm not mistaken
ds / 3ds ports of n64 games?
@@davidstaffen6783 Mario 64, Pilot Wings, Starfox...
@@Not-Great-at-Gaming Ya those were pritty great ports will some nice visual upgrades.
@@davidstaffen6783 Yeah, that's what I was expecting with 3D All stars. When I saw what it actually was, I figured it was just emulation. Sad that the DS has a better version of Mario 64!
Nintendo: *draconian stance against emulation*
Also Nintendo: *Emulates their own games, but worse than fan emulators*
You're on crack if you think Dolphin looks better than this collection. Watch some early gameplay footage, all of the games are flawless. Dolphin still can't accurately emulate many effects in Sunshine and Galaxy. Are you actual video game fans or just the Dolphin defense squad?
That’s why they are against it though. How are they going to lazily sell old games again?
Nintendo aren't against emulation on its own, just the emulation of their games on non-nintendo hardware. They've been emulating their own games for years now (see the 3 iterations of the virtual console, NES and SNES on switch). I'm not defending their approach to fan emulators, but emulating their own games is absolutely nothing new.
Fun fact Nintendo's first foray into Video Games was with Arcade Cabinets which ran clones of other existing games (via Gaming Historian I think).
Nintendo has a lot of new, young talent now that probably started with some emulation or hacking experience so it's not too surprising to see their developers at very least being more open to emulation. It also makes sense for them to use their own emulators rather than those made by fans for legal reasons. Since they do have original source code and other resources their emulators are probably technically better in some ways but lack some of the features of fan made emulators that have been in development for (presumably) a lot longer.
luckywizard i don’t have a problem with it. What are you on about?
SNES All-Stars: ports with beautifully updated graphics and sound, new features (saving), includes a previously unavailable game
Switch All-Stars: lazily patched ROMs, very few enhancements, artificially limited supply, leaves out Galaxy 2
I miss when Nintendo was cool.
I miss that Nintendo Power the most. They weren't afraid to go neck n' neck with the competition. Sad of what the company has become. Their last really competitive console was the GameCube. After that, they stopped caring. And the Wii-U was too little too late.
that's not a nintendo thing- everyone has gotten lazy on what they are offering.
although capcom has done an excellent job... even their mega man ports being half digital have been a piss off
SNES SMAS: had the terrible problem of the Block Glitch, something the romhackers got rid of.
GameCube and wii is way more demanding than a snes game
Nah I think its that you had your expectations set way to high and then blame Nintendo when it isn't met. Your average "Nintendo fan" here complaining about Nintendo like the usual.
I can agree that emulation is a bit lazy, and it being limited time is crappy too, but I'll still get the game! And don't care if it's emulation!
Another reason to choose the emulation route is it opens the door for emulating more GCN/N64 games later down the line, as opposed to porting each game from scratch every time.
*hint hint* Zelda's 35th anniversary next year...
@@InhabitantOfOddworld They'll just emulate the GameCube collection.
Just bring them to virtual console then, don’t resell them like new games
My thoughts exactly. This ultimately opens the door to bring in an N64/GC/Wii virtual console. I think this is a touch over priced for emulation (I think $40 is more fair. $10 for 64, $10 for Sunshine, $20 for galaxy since it appears more work went into it), but it's not enough to dissuade me from buying it
Still lazy and cheap to me. Nintendo have the resources to port games natively every time. They choose emulation because iy gives them a higher profit.
This means that fans did a *better* job of bringing Mario 64 to the switch than Nintendo!
Also years earlier
The difference is, you can run it officially on your switch without having it modded.
Absolutely
@@aarongreenfield9038 But in a quite less more enjoyable way. I mean, they basically port over the same vanilla game over and over again which makes it getting lame by now. At least they could have used SM64DS as a base and turn it HD.
No surprise
Shameful, I was hoping Mario Sunshine would have gotten the Wind Waker HD treatment.
Feels like the all stars port was something Nintendo put together because they felt obligated to and not actually happy to do so.
Kirby 20th anniversary has a nice menu for selecting games, had 6 games total, bonus features, and generally feels like a anniversary collection.
Hearing Lua pronounced "L U A" cracked me up.
yeah >.< just as funny as ppl that pronounce GIF as JIF >.
Yeah lmao, lua is a last name, say it like that
Sorry, not sorry, I've always said L.U.A as I am not Portuguese.
@@isodian Is it because the word is too short for you to pronounce?
@@herrpez sure ^.^ I suppose it is similar to the Chinese pronunciation but I don't intend on learning Portuguese. Or letting it distract me from the main concepts of the vid 😆
It's pretty disappointing for an "All-Stars" game, considering that Nintendo did complete remasters for the original All-Stars game. I mean, $60 just for emulation?
They put in the effort to actually port it when bringing it to the Wii.
EMulation irregardless... these are mainline Mario 3d games, and are still considered classics (debatable all 3)...
$20/game for these three games seems reasonable. Most $40 remasters only get you one game.
Snarky Mark they’re not remastered though..
Yeah and the fact that they didn't even include Super Mario Galaxy 2 and made it only available for a short time makes this truly unacceptable. These games are each well over 10 years old and Nintendo is charging a premium price for them to be merely up-scaled versions of the original games.

“budget constraints” dude nintendo is making a bank with the switch plus all they have accumulated over the years. i think this is laziness we could have gotten these 3 amazing games in proper 1080p 60 fps cmon is the current year!
They're currently the richest company in Japan. There is no reason for them to use artificial scarcity on this half-assed collection.
Probably less budget constraints and more Coronavirus constraints. Keep in mind that working from home is much harder in Japan than over here.
They’re a business, and businesses aim for maximum profit with minimal loss. Still sucks tho
I got the game early access btw ruclips.net/video/dRpIf57unwk/видео.html
How is developing an emulator lazy?
So then what's Nintendo's excuse for not bringing older libraries to the Switch via emulation? You know, that thing we've actually been wanting?
You mean a new system to the switch online thing? Technically they could've done gameboy, gba and N64 since the thing's release 2 years ago, they just did not have done that for money reasons.
@@estradasvirtuais2105 What money reasons? Last I remember Nintendo Switch is one of Nintendo's best selling consoles by then. And it's not like emulating games a lot of effort. Literally there is no excuse for not having a virtual console beyond Nes and Snes
I know people should take that away from this and say we can get even more games from these consoles cause it can clearly run it
the excuse is they don't care what you want lol
I have no clue why they haven't yet. They even mentioned recently that Switch Online numbers are not very good and they failed to incentivise people to sign up. When literally all they had to do was throw their back catalogue onto emulators and give it out for the subscription. That would've seriously helped sub numbers. But no, hold back and then be confused when nobody wants the online subscription. it needs to offer more. I hope they realized that.
They hate money
Activision just released Tony Hawk 1+2 and released full remasters for the original Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games. Microsoft is actively supporting the Master Chief Collection where they even added MP unlocks for the OG Combat Evolved, not the remastered one.
Meanwhile, Nintendo uses emulators and calls it a day. It makes them look lazy to me.
I know it's not that simple, but it's still a bummer if you see what is out there in the market in remastered games and what could be possible.
Nintendo fanboys:
"But it's 3 games for $60!"
"Those are remakes, this is a remaster!"
"Sunshine is $80, this is cheap!"
"B-But their scores are higher!"
Imagine if they remastered 64 so that it had as good of graphics as Galaxy
Don't forget the Super Mario 64 decompilation project which now became the new "runs in everyrthing", something that Nintendo is not very pleased to see
I imagine that the intention is to have the emulators used for gamecube and/or wii virtual consoles so I believe that Nintenod's main goal was to create the emulators for this purpose. Having this year be a Mario anniversary year, their first releases with this Mario collection I think is a good showcase of their new tech. It will most likely make their money back from the cost of development and set the path for further development of the emulators to add compatibility for more games for more rereleases
It's stuff like this why it just baffles me how Nintendo can have such a blindly defensive fanbase.
Imagine paying $60 for a bunch of ROMs.
A few ROMs.
It's more like paying $60 for decent motion controls in Dolphin. It's a pain trying to play Galaxy without them, and it bodes well for future Wii ports, which was something I was expecting when I bought my Switch years ago. Maybe a bit pricey but I've never actually played any of these games, Mario 64 was too expensive used back in the day and the Switch is the first Nintendo console I've owned since then.

Im really interested in decompiling wii games...
I’m not too upset about emulation. That just means that the data miners will be able to really dig in and shed more light on better emulation. If companies can’t/won’t provide what consumers want, the people will do it for themselves.
and this is where the homebrew community come into action baby!
Companies generally have the option to dig up and re-work existing source code rather than having to reverse engineer it from trial and error like mentally stretched fans do.
lemmingscanfly5 but did they do that with this trilogy? Obviously not. Laziest trilogy porting ever.
Darth Raider exactly what I meant to imply.
Agreed. Emulation route by itself is fine. But I do wonder why they made this such a minimum effort project in general. A properly polished All-Stars could end up being the bestseller of the year but instead they go with this limited effort limited release route.. I really would want to see my favourite old games taken well care of and feeling at home on their new console.
I'm guessing they put all their time into developing the emulator. My guess is that this is testing the waters for future GC, Wii and N64 titles
Because it will sell regardless, it’s already sold out on many retailers so they know they can get away with this
Wokis
Probably because it just happened to be planned for the year 2020? Let's be honest, this year isn't exactly kind to game developers.
i guess its more like a "test balloon" for a forthcoming "virtual console" like service
IIRC the 25th anniversary collection on the wii was a similarly bare-bones affair yeah?
I quite honestly find it disappointing that Super Mario 64 is just emulation. With the Super Mario 64 PC port, I can run it in widescreen at 1080p on my laptop. The fact that Nintendo's official 3D game compilation has an inferior version of SM64 compared to fanmade ports, along with the game's inevitable scarcity, makes me have second thoughts about picking it up. I find that this collection just isn't worthy of the All Stars name. With the 2D All Stars collection on the SNES, all the games were completely upgraded with better graphics and sound, I understand it's a lot harder for these larger, more complex games, but I'd appreciate something as minor as widescreen and native ports.
Not to mention the amazing Render96 models.
Don't forget Render 96's models

Nintendo: Hey, remember all those games that you bought and paid us money. Now you can do that all over again!
I'd like to think that you're not one of those idiots that partake in the Ultimate team modes etc in EA games. And having to redo it all every year. In the gaming industry, Nintendo is not the problem when rereleasing games and making it worth it. Though, my opinion is £50 for emulated games has me a little salty. I'll still definitely buy this, but it should have been cheaper.
Shut up and take my money!
I suppose if you held onto the original versions and consoles you’d still have the option to play. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea where my GameCube ended up
I agree . Their ecosystem is a joke
and people will do that because "it's on the go lulz lolz". and alos, because they are stupid
This collection is sounding worse and worse by the minute. I’m glad I didn’t pre order
Imagine that 3D All Stars was 30 bucks, timeless, and an announcent for N64, GC and Wii Virtual Consoles on the Switch
We all would be the happiest people on earth and we wouldnt mind at all that it was emulation
The outrage was because that on top of being expensive and time limited, it is emulation, a cheaper and less time consuming way (didnt say worse) to "make" those games, adding insult to injury.
It's a perfect example of modern-day Nintendo, smallest possible effort, for maximum possible buck.
Remember that the NES and SNES mini launched with 30-20 games and the hardware at 60-80$ and these arent the best deals on earth
3 (more moders) emulated games for 60$ feels like a bad joke
@@chubbysumo2230 Nintendo are morons. They have the most universal platform they could possibly hope for next to an AMD APU in a hand held (Nvidia that supports OGL and Vulkan) and can run nearly every game ever made for any system, until the new consoles hit. They could have been like lets put an app store on this and lets make it like apple but for games -make sure they arent pay to play garbage, and open the flood gates to old sega titles, steam ports, hell even microsoft may consider putting some xbox junk on there or someone else could port their own titles over since its similar to directx enough. But nope, we are stuck with $60 titles that suck on a system that doesnt even get used to anywhere near the fullest. I wanted so bad for it to be a portable way to play Warframe but that too is a huge dissapointment.
@@hypercube33 they aren't gonna put Xbox titles on it and I doubt they want an app store and I also want sonic 3 and knuckles on switch
This isn't them giving us what they think we want. Then Cando it is very confident in themselves and they plan things out far ahead. I can almost guarantee you that they intended to do this for Mario is 35th anniversary for the last 3 years. There probably gonna do the exact same thing with zelda next year. My point is that nintendo doesnt remaster games often became in most cases it would take away from the charm and they might not be able to replicate what fans loved about the consoles and visuals ext. Nintendo is very sequel prioritiesd and I can bet you a mario 3d sequal game is likely in development right now
Hopefully someone can reverse-engineer these emulators so we have GC and Wii games on Switch next!
You mean use Dolphin?
the switch was just a cheap amazon tablet they sold for 60 dollar and the switch used the same specs and slapped nintendo on the side and that tablet had already been jail broken, hence the reason the switch was reverse engineered like a month after it came out.You can jail break a switch to run wii and gc games

FYI, Lua isn't an initialism, it's pronounced "Loo-ah". Interesting stuff, thanks for the video.
I’m pretty sure it’s LUA
ACKCHYUALLY
Yes. From www.lua.org/about.html :
What's in a name?
"Lua" (pronounced LOO-ah) means "Moon" in Portuguese. As such, it is neither an acronym nor an abbreviation, but a noun. More specifically, "Lua" is a name, the name of the Earth's moon and the name of the language. Like most names, it should be written in lower case with an initial capital, that is, "Lua". Please do not write it as "LUA", which is both ugly and confusing, because then it becomes an acronym with different meanings for different people. So, please, write "Lua" right!
FYI it’s an acronym....
@Vox4l The correct adjective used for a place or thing known by or shortened to its initials in a acronym, not a ‘initialism’.....
FYI "Lua" is not an abbreviation, it means "moon" in Portuguese, as the creators are from Brazil.
Awesome. Its great to be brazilian
The real question is will the "L is real" texture be legible in SM64?
That would be a great fan service
according to modders on twitter, no, the L is real sign has not been changed
Just checked it out. Its a bit clearer but it doesn't seem like the developers meant to attach a real message to the texture. Its vague enough to be able to "recognize" something, but not clear enough to call any letter with certainty. But at least the S in "L is" is denifitely not an s. on the texture.
The sign actually says Eternal Star in the original, but the texture is scaled down so much that it looks like L is real. For instance to E in eternal becomes the L
@@osrevad That sign is in Ocarina Of Time, so Eternal Star (even if it's a triforce?)
As potentially unlikely as this sounds, I wonder if someone can find a way to re-purpose the emulator used for Gamecube/Wii onto homebrew, for playing other Gamecube & Wii games. For someone like me who has a modded switch this'd be really handy to be able to play all these other titles that seemingly haven't been perfected emulation-wise yet for the Switch, without other means such as loading up Android/Linux to emulate the games on the Switch. Being able to just load up the emulators used for 3D All-Stars (namely GCN and Wii) as a homebrew app to play other GCN/Wii games would be amazing.
we will find out very soon how likely this is.
I would think it would tell it to only boot specific roms

Extra levels, what? I had All-stars as a kid, I don't remember the games having actual extra content in them aside from the fresh coat of paint. It's a bit silly to compare All-stars for the Snes to this though. If they could have gotten away with simply emulating the games back then, I bet they would have.
sirflimflam This shit’s just as lazy and cheap as what Sega and Playstation pulled with their pa1 and genesis classic editions, or what they did 10 years ago when they emulated all stars on wii the same way they are now,

I really wish they would do a proper remaster of mario 64. I want to see more detailed models and hi-res textures. I'd be more than happy to pay full price for a proper mario 64 with high poly models and high res textures. The other 2 games could use some love too, but they don't need it as bad as mario 64 does.

I pre-ordered the physical version, but now I’m kind of disappointed. I feel like Nintendo was just lazy by not doing ports.
Is Mario’s 35th anniversary so not important to Nintendo that they just release an emulator in a cartridge? That’s how they value their heritage and fans?
I wish Nintendo had allocated the necessary resources/budget to do the ports and deliver a “real” Super Mario 3D All Stars (including Galaxy 2).
Anyways, I still respect the hard work of the Nintendo developers that have put this project together. Can’t wait to see how’s the performance.
Just like when super Mario all stars came out for the SNES, a full remake of each level of each game, better graphics and everything.
Nintendo doesn't really care that much when it comes to old games because they know people will buy them with every release on their consoles, which is dumb for the consumer but the consumer doesn't care for whatever reason. I remember that N64 emulators were perfectly capable of running Mario 64 at 60 fps and in widescreen like 15 years ago on a pretty meh PC so they definitely could have done a better work on the Switch, that part of this collection is kinda disapointing.
Even the Wii through Virtual Console ran it without a hitch.
My samsung galaxy in 2012 could run Mario 64 just fine.
Mario 64 is awful here, really lazy job. BUT! there is a wonderful community port for the switch, that using the decompiled code that MVG mentioned once. it's running on 60 frames, got a wide screen support, you gotta check it out.
60 FPS Mario 64 only happened in recent years through a rom hack.
I'm now REALLY pissed off that Nintendo is emulating those games and didn't bother to upgrade 64 and sunshine to 60 fps when free emulators have been able to handle that for ages.
Couldn't agree more. There is absolutely no reason to buy this product, unless the value you derive from it is how pretty it looks on your shelf.
Natively, emulators don't actually run games at 60fps, say you were playing OoT which runs at 20fps. The emulator triples the frames and is "60fps," but the truth is, a lot of N64 games' internal mechanics were designed around a frame limiter, and removing the frame limiter or making creates problems with actors (oot at 60fps breaks cutscenes) patches exist for N64 games that enable 60fps but many if not all of these patches ignore these problems and ruin the game. Fixing these issues is probably a load of work, they weren't designed to work that way. In modern times, developers used frames less for things so that games could run on PCs without breaking. I guess Nintendo is lazy for not making these patches themselves, but I don't think 60fps is necessary anyway.
@@TheN64man I didn't say they were running them at 60 natively. but there are patches and workarounds available for most games done by the community, without having access to the sourcecode and they run fine for the most part (save a glitch or two in most games). sure, some games that was impossible, like twilight princess, but Mario Sunshine runs fine, for the most part. Nintendo has the sourcecode for those games. If the switch is able to handle those games at a constant 60 fps (they should, since Galaxy seems to be perfectly able to) then it's a matter of setting the game to run at 60 instead of 30 and recompile them. They are NINTENDO. and they are releasing these games to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their biggest IP, on their 2nd most sold console of all times. Do they seriously NOT have the resources to do it?
Ferna_Postales yeah u completely agree, it’s not like they are giving it away for free, they are asking full price and the final product it’s the exact same that was launched years ago, if small developers can do a better job than Nintendo there is something wrong
@@ferna182 I mentioned those glitches myself. As a fan project, people are willing to understand that a few glitches will happen. If Nintendo did the same thing, they're bad because they left glitches in the game. I watched a nightmarish playthrough of Sunshine with 60fps, it was hilarious. Unfortunately, I think making a fully functional patch for the two games would be too much effort for something that *is not really that important.* It looks smoother, but it isn't. Widescreen is more understandable, but even then there might be problems with how Nintendo used the resolution to do things, like Market from OOT being a pre-rendered image, meaning it needs to be stretched, enlargened, or left as is. Also might be rendering techniques used to keep the N64 from running too slowly that are more noticeable with higher resolutions (unloaded models, low poly Mario.) I don't get why people need to complain about the framerate and resolution instead of actual problens, like the awful camera from SM64, which would be more worthwhile because it makes the game actually better. Reselling an unimproved game from decades ago for an increased price isn't okay, but I really feel like people are too focused on how good it's supposed to look, and aren't remembering how occasionally (not always) terrible these games were because they were the beginning of 3D or tried to introduce something random like FLUDD to make gameplay more interesting (and janky.)
Just wanted to say thank you for taking deeper dives into the technical and possible corporate reasoning behind the scenes. It's super interesting hearing the engineering aspects under all the development and how it all really works.
MVG I'm so glad you're so smart in this field!! I always love learning about game code and hacks. Thanks to you I have a fully modded Nintendo 2DS XL. Keep up the amazing work!
60 dollars for packaged emulation on things most Nintendo clients already have? Normally it could be a tough sell, but it will break retail records.
People see “NINTENDO” and stop thinking lol
You heavily underestimate the Nintendo brand
I feel it's because of the severe lack of legacy titles on the Switch. Its been 3 years since the Switch launched and we _still_ don't have a service comparable to Virtual Console. Yeah sure we got SNES and NES games, but start talking 64/GCN/Wii games and you'll get people who will pay anything to play something like that on the Switch.
Only a minority of online nerds care about this shit. Go outside.
@@gothicdoomer6245 While I agree on principle, I think it's still worth talking about, considering the price tag
I have a theory as far as when this began development. So remember how all the rumors since March saying that this game existed? I think that the reason why this game seems rushed is because the game started development, was in March, right when the rumors came out.
Interesting theory but Nintendo doesn't seem like the type to jump on a fan service bandwagon like that. They seem to ignore the community at large
Porting a game doesn't take that much time.
Yeah I feel like the nature of game development, you kind of need to plan each year somewhat in advanced for a variety of reasons. I don't know too many games as a whole, even just a collection of roms running on an emulators that start development and ship the same year. Even just planning the production of the carts and cases takes time and is done in advance. Promotional material, getting it licensed in all regions, etc takes time even if porting the game is quick.
@@chriswiandt4907 bingo.

Nintendo giving its fans a lazy cash grab... not suprised
dude i said this in a Nintendo video, how this was a cash grab, they just dumped ports of decade old games into a fresh new cart and slapped a "Fresh made" sticker on it. Also said how Crash and Spyro did full HD remasters and only charged 40 bucks for three remastered games.
That comment got deleted. lmao
Didnt Nintendo have something on their site like "emulation is our greatest threat"? Lol
The only threat to Nintendo is Nintendo itself
Emulation is the threat, because most people are downloading the roms illegal. The people at Nintendo also don't work for free, so they obviously can't compete with something you get for free. The price may be too high, but you also get 3 full Games. If you wanted a remake like links awakening, you could probably pay 60$ for each mario title.
@@haterchannel386 emulation hits older gens which nintendo makes almost no money on. Many older games cant be sold by nintendo because of licensing. Emulators are key to keeping old games alive and accessible
I really don't understand the argument that most people will just play the games on emulation for free when 3D All-stars is selling like hotcakes. Clearly people are buying it despite pirate alternatives. I really don't think Nintendo is hurting much because of unauthorized emulation. They hurt themselves more by locking themselves into a limited release of highly demanded product.

Dude, the beard is awesome and I'm loving the Fender bass in the background. Is it a P Bass?
I am 99% sure the french team were the only ones that contributed code to this project. Nintendo Japan must have assigned one artist to redo the UI and do the box art/etc. but everything else was very likely done by NERD. If that's the case it's quite impressive that they've managed to write an entire Wii/GC emulator from scratch in what is very likely a really short amount of time
Who says short amount of time
Luigi Rinaldi their website: www.nerd.nintendo.com/
They almost certainly ported the same wii/gc emulator they made for the Nvidia shield, which runs on basically the same hardware as the switch
I got the game early access btw ruclips.net/video/dRpIf57unwk/видео.html
They hired a dolphin developer years ago presumably to work on this emulator
I've played the leaked version of it so here's my take on each game. (And for anyone wondering, yes all the games have the correct button icons for the Switch.)
Super Mario 64:
The visuals kill it. No widescreen is the main thing for me as the aspect ratio used means it doesn't even correctly line up with the top and bottom of the screen. Better off playing the homebrew port.
Super Mario Sunshine:
Works great. Exactly what I wanted out of it. No complaints.
Super Mario Galaxy:
Just like Sunshine, works great... But only if you're playing docked. For some reason, the motion controls in handheld force you to use the touchscreen which is a major downside for me. Some might not mind it, but I know that all my friends and I instantly hated it.
get a life
Wait so it actually shows the proper Switch buttons in Super Mario Sunshine unlike shown in the trailers??
wtf touch controlls? ffs

I love this man's videos. He's like the emulator and kind of hacking version of digital foundry. He gets technical with it but also explains it with screenshots or videos to make it understandable
Well, my big issue is the added FOMO to even the digital version.
4:58 - Did I see that right? 25fps? I swear to god if we get the PAL versions in PAL regions then I will be selling my copy. NTSC versions should be standard these days.
You know what makes this even more infuriating, the original PAL release of Super Mario Sunshine did actually supported 60hz...
That's sunshine being run in Dolphin, not on the switch collection.
Holy shit this would absolutely be a game changer, in the worst way possible
At 4:30 it says "Country: US". Is it possible they're using the PAL version for North America?
@@AQGamedev He specifically mentions that the screenshot at 4:58 is using the SM3DAS SMS ROM File. If Dolphin is showing that it is running at 25fps, that means that if this screenshot is indeed legit, then the ROM included in the SM3DAS package is the PAL version and therefore is representative of what we will get on the Nintendo Switch.
An NTSC ROM would show as 30fps on Dolphin.
Interesting stuff for sure. I can’t wait for a more in-depth look at how the code works for Galaxy in particular, as the modified controls have piqued my interest. Thanks for posting!
The beard is looking great MVG
Theory: Nintendo knows they couldn't be bothered with this and don't care, so they decided to make it a limited run in hopes people will forget about this sooner or later
My problem with this game is that Nintendo has always said this; "We dont need poeple to preserve games, Nintendo always does a great job at it". That said they keep the source code as you mentioned. Since they did a great job with Mario All Star on Snes by upgrading all the games, giving us a something somewhat new and do Mario 64 desperately need a retouch. You mentioned Nintendo had budget restrictions on this and i just dont buy it. They always milked the crap out of the people just like Apple or any other greedy companies for years, budget should be no problem. Im not asking a one button switch game like the master piece the new Monster Boy game was but anything other then a project 64 game.
We are talking about what some consider to be the greatest video game ever reduced to just emulation i played 18 years ago on my 1ghz celeron computer. They should sell this 10$ but they wont... because unfortunately there is a market even for this illusion of a dream... This lack of effort is just sleazy...
All signs point to this being a rush job due to internal and external delays, especially the shift to work-from-home - that they wanted to do more (Galaxy 2, tighter emulation, more script patches, the audio edits in Sunshine, etc) but were so far behind schedule that they were going to miss the anniversary and made the call to make it shippable on time. That absolutely should have come with a lower price point, but it does help me understand how they could screw up this badly.
Wonderfully stated on all points - completely agree.
This release as a whole, the minimal effort, AND the limited availability ontop of that just makes me angry as a customer. It's a blatant insult.
as a computer science student about to finish my degree with high honours who was looking to get into the game development industry this saga has made me think twice about wanting to work for a big company if they have shitty business practices like this. Im buying the game so im part of the problem but it still boils my blood to think about how lazy they were with this. I bet they expected nobody to ever find out it was emulated (probably the leakers will get a knock on the door from the nintendo lawyers soon)
@@runneypo let's be honest. It's 2020 they know people datamine. That's old news. If they left it findable they didn't care if anyone knew it was emulated.

That line of code seems to automatically activate progressive scan mode for Super Mario Sunshine. Holding B at Boot would cause your GameCube to switch to Progresive Scan mode if the game supported it and you had the proper cables.
Super-Mario-Sunshine-Stardust-trimmed ? So they are using Trimmed versions. Too bad they couldn't squeese Super Mario Galaxy 2 on there as Galaxy 2 is smaller than Galaxy 1.
I make it around 4:40 and that is activating PAL60 mode, I do not believe the EU GC supported progressive, although its possible it still rendered progressive scan internally thus why it works in the emulator.
*Correction: Nintendo SHOULD have the source code, we can't have that guarantee, for example Square Enix lost the source code of the first KH games :/
I wouldn't even be surprised if they threw the Sourcecode out some years ago.
It literally leaked, of course they have the source code
Kippykip oh yeah, you’re right, I forget that
And don't forget Konami losing the Silent Hill 2 and 3 source codes, resulting in the abortion of an HD port they pooped out. "There was a source code here. It's gone now."
Those leaks demonstrated that Nintendo has a real dedication to preserving their software. It'd be admirable if they weren't silently sitting on it instead of giving it to historians.
$60 for emulation is a bit disappointing, but it means there's no technical reason why Nintendo can't bring Wii and GCN games to Switch. That's huge if you ask me.

Nintendo needs to take notes from Activision of all companies on how to do this properly. Their recent remasters show how it should be done.
TFW Nintendo needs to take cues from Activision
Normally I would say taking notes from Activision is basically suicide but they do a great job at adding incentive to rereleases and Nintendo has always dropped the ball on them. The only decent one was Wind Waker HD and Ocarina of Time 3D though Wind Waker could have used a bit more effort and Ocarina could have really used a full console remake instead.
Difference is those games are remakes not remasters. Remaster and remake are not the same thing.

Alex Atkin and besides I said play them on my Wii OR emulate that
I was honestly more hoping for a remaster. Yeah, you have to develop a game from scratch, but the storyline's already done... Personally I want a remaster of the mario 64 DS's "remaster"
The extra stars and characters was a lot of fun but using a touchscreen as an analog stick was far from ideal, and the crusty audio sucked
I’ve messed around with Lua (loo-ah) programming back when I was doing my undergrad in Games Technology at Coventry University.
It’s really easy to pick up and has wide applications as middleware scripting and for porting classic games because a lot of them were written in C back in the mid-90s and early 2000s.
Thanks, MVG. You're the best.
The N64 groups are shilling so hard for this. It's sad and hilarious at the same time.
Honestly.. no one really "has to" buy this game. But we all know we want to.
I would have expected Nintendo to put forth more effort for the 35th ANNIVERSARY EDITION.
But if the goal is to give us as close as possible experience then emulation is fine.
The issue because pricing.
I absolutely hate the idea of paying $20 per emulated Nintendo game moving forward. These release should have had more games. It would be a different conversation if they were all Remastered/HD/Definitive Editions.
On the brighter side, we are closer to playing all Nintendo catalog on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo is telling us that there will not be virtual console in nintendo switch, even when the Wii U, 3DS and even the Wii have one. Instead, we will get just a few games with the price of an current game, and forget about the games bought in previous consoles, you will have to buy they again.
