Love your videos!
Good boy fatty
Yeah!
Jorge Bustillos you're a very strange person, you know that right?
Runs out of Wii U games to port, Nintendo: “GameCube, everyone likes GameCube!”
I’m okay with this
There's nothing but ports of older games on Switch, or at least it feels like that sometimes
@@ericbazinga Between November and next year we'll have two nee Zelda games (Age of Calamity and 2) and possibly the zelda equivalent of the 3d All Star for the anniversary
@@manuelredgrave8348 you literally just mentioned that you think the console is getting more ports
@@orangy57 And new zelda games
I doubt they will use this emulation for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess tho, because they already ported the HD version.
but there again, they are nintendo.
Definitely agree with this. Why would they release non-HD versions of games they have already remastered in HD?. More likely would be Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword if they were going to do Zelda ports.
Yeah, I think a collection would include the Wii U versions of WW and TP. Maybe they'll use the Mario Galaxy hybrid emulation approach for Skyward Sword though.
I can see them doing this, as it might be easier to emulate. The Wii U was a commercial flop but having those 2 games in HD was super nice.
@@Hydraxis- Except Nintendo are now, shall we say, just a little bit experienced in porting Wii U titles to the Switch. Also, those HD ports made a number of changes to the games themselves with the likes of Amiibo functionality and gameplay improvements (the Swift Sail, streamlining collecting tears of light, etc) that I doubt Nintendo would be so quick to throw away. Nor would it be well received at all if they did.
As a note, Nintendo are also re-issuing the Twilight Princess HD Wolf Link Amiibo, the primary function of which was to unlock a new extra dungeon in Twilight Princess HD.
I think where we would be more likely to see some form of emulation brought into the mix would be if the Skyward Sword rumours turn out to be true, with the Galaxy-esque hybrid approach.
Do never, ever doubt Nintendo's fixation for quick cashgrabs.
“A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever. Unless we release the game for a limited amount of time” - probably Shigeru Miyamoto
"Making predictable bad moves will hurt the stocks ahead of time, so let's make all of our bad moves unpredictable"
Someone else at Nintendo
Why do people still bring up this quote. It's annoying. This is not Nintendo anymore. Lol... 🙄
It's not a bad game though lol
@@rawman44 I think the quote, if it exists, was "a rushed game is bad forever"
@@YounesLayachi Right, I know. I was just saying allstars isn't bad lol
Calling them remasters is a bit of a stretch. That’s like respraying one door of my car and calling it a full paint restoration.
ur not white ur red
Well, let's thank god they are not like FF8 remaster for a second, remaster is usually used inappropriately these days so I guess we should get used to it...
I wonder how many much open source they nicked off without releasing their contribution as required per license.
They need gamecube on the store...nintendo lost their seal of quality in the e shop with the endless sea of mobile games...time to put some gems on shop for those that never owned a gamecube or wii.
so many great gamecube and n64 games they just dont add for some reason
Some people think old = bad
Maybe they dont want people to play too much of their older games
@@IAm-zo1bo Yeah I see that excuse PlayStation fans use when Xbox fans are glad their console has backwards compatibility, they keep saying "imagine getting a new console to play old games", like nah dude we just want one console where we can play all our games on conveniently.
I only buy digital if game is digital only on eshop for that reason...years from now my hard drive craps out...no eshop for switch 15 years in future will let me redownload.
This is a silly narrative. All consoles have always had plenty of low quality software, including Nintendo's. The "seal of quality" has never been about quality.
I'm gonna be so pissed if we get the GameCube version of Wind Waker and not the HD remake they did for Wii U.
Why would they? It’s already in HD so they just need to change it a little to support switch
Ethr its Nintendo for fucksake
they probably will release those HD remasters individually, then the 3ds remakes of ocarina and majora's mask in a collection.
@@ethr78 m64DS isn't anywhere in 3D All Stars...
60€ for 3 emulated games only Nintendo would dare to go there... and make it limited is like...
Then don't buy it. Amazing how you the customer has that ability, right?
Stop bitching and complaining and do something that'll actually affect Nintendo. Remain silent and don't buy it.
Why would that hurt them? You're not spreading the word of the game, and you didn't give them the money. The more people do this, the more it'll hurt Nintendo. However, my gripe with this whole situation is... Nintendo made a great emulator from the ground up. They did also redo some assets in the game and text, when I played Sunshine, the actual buttons I needed to press, like ZR (Which did not exist in Gamecube) are present. While the game may be emulated, Nintendo did make an effort to properly patch in Switch specific stuff. Call it Lazy if you'd like, but Nintendo gave us a good suite of emulated products, and I was happy to buy it. Been having a blast with Mario Sunshine again myself. I have an emulated copy on my PC, but I don't mind buying it on Switch too.
@@MarioTGP I'm just tired of people bitching and complaining and well... literally doing the exact opposite to help the situation they're complaining about.
You want something to change? Then do what will actually hurt a company, rather than bitching about it on RUclips comments...
@@MarioTGP Exactly. So why are you treating them like they betrayed your friendship?
I don't care for Nintendo, I care for the products they release, and if I like the product. So I bought the game, and I'm happy with it. Why would I bitch and complain about it being emulated or ported when I legitimately like the product I was given?
@@MarioTGP That's your opinion. 28 million people bought Mario Kart 8, 22 Million bought Animal Crossing New Horizons, and 17 million bought Breath of the Wilds. Hardly what I'd call "nothing to justify purchases".
Keep in mind that Breath of the Wilds currently holds the record for most perfect scores on Metacritic, and is sitting at a 97, while God of War PS4 sits at a 96. But hey, you don't like Breath of the Wilds, that's fine. You're allowed to not like it. Sell your switch then if you don't like it. Stop complaining to Nintendo for your purchasing habits...
@@MarioTGP *Sigh* And here I thought I was gonna have a normal conversation...
How's the injection of other roms going with those emulators?
oh boy thought the same thing
Not possible for now.
I cant wait to see what is done here.
GC/Wii is problematic. Sunshine's executable was still converted ahead of time. Check oatmealdome's tweets from yesterday.
wii cpu runs natively so injections won't be simple. GC does a hash check on the iso and crashes when it fails.
I hope! Missing the other games would really be a mistake made.
buy an pc and emulate it ;)
There are no missing games. Nintendo is the Disney of gaming.
Yeah I'd love to pay 60 quid for some more decades old games 😂😂 No wonder all these companies mug everyone off when everyone's such eager mugs.
If all the good N64, GameCube and Wii games came to Switch, I would probably never need to buy another game native to the Switch.
Just look at the Wii U. I own barely any games for it, but it's filled to the brim with Virtual Console titles.
So I assume it'd earn them quite a bit of money, but it could potentially lower the sales of new games if overdone.
Still, I hope they at least bring some of the titles over. I'm still buying games on my Wii U so presumably it works.
@@Datenschutz_Datenschutz no need to buy a pc, these games can be emulated on the poorest of laptops xD
Super Mario Sunshine's main.dol was statically recompiled. Only the code in the recompiled nro - which also contains Hagi's interface and a table containing the addresses of the original and the new functions - is used, while the dol is only used for data.
This also means you can't just inject your own .gcm and expect it to work; you'd have to recompile the .dol yourself, add the table, and implement Hagi's interface.
P.S.: I think it's pronounced "hagi" instead of "haji" because it's probably romanized Japanese.
Nintendo Before 2020: "Quit emulating our games!"
Nintendo 2020: "We will emulate our own games!"
Also Nintendo 2002 with OoT+Master Quest and Collector's Edition for the GameCube. And 1998/1999 with Pokémon Stadium.
Formedras wait what about Pokémon stadium?
Formedras Outside of n64 I’ve only ever had a pleasant experience with stadium games through emulation on Wii U
@@drvpgvng Pokémon Stadium used Game Boy emulation to play the Gen1 games, using the save from your Game Pak, through the N64 Transfer Pak. And Pokémon Stadium 2 added Gen2 to that.
Formedras oh I see what you meant yeah I remember playing my Pokémon games in stadium just to have them in the bigger screen. You could play any gameboy game though in the n64 stadium I’m guessing?
Now I'm imagining a Paper Mario All Stars is possible lol
Mister Eagleman That would be great!
YES, especially the first two games.
CaptainStarkiller YES!
Cool idea
It’d be PM, TTYD, and SPM
Watch them exclude Majora's Mask from the Zelda all-stars collection, mark my words
That and Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link.
It will most likely be Ocarina (I am hoping for Majora) Windwaker, and Skyward. They could get a little funky and do 4swords Ocarina and Skyward though. I don't think they will touch Twilight with how many ports there have been of that game.
@@CraneStyleNJ Zelda 2 is already in switch online isnt it.
CraneStyle if any game is to be missing, I'd rather it be that one personally. That was unfortunately my first Zelda game and I assumed Zelda sucked lol
@@TVIDS123 both games are the black sheep of Zelda games although they are fun they just don't add up to the others.
CDI Zelda games are non canon so they don't count.
My two cents to this: The emulator codebase probably started back years ago and they would not have known which games they actually want to "port" when the thing is ready. Secondly, it could be the case, that only the specification of the emulator expects these options to be supported, while the emulator shipping with this doesnt actually support this yet. This would be smart because you want all options open without major restructuring needed when writing software. That said, there are many things you don't know about and that never see the light of day in the software world. Ultimately what is trickling out into the wild also is a matter of economics and politics within the company.
Nintendo don't need you to defend their malpractices
Younes Layachi ???
Earliest dates in the Build point to february as potentially the start of this. the emulators could have been used in other systems and the code could be used from those implementations though. But these emulators need more polish. Sunshine has many glitches that do not occur on the Original hardware or in dolphin. Hopefully they fix these oddyties
@@HoudiniFontmeister That is a bit tight of a schedule. I doubt that. In binaries there only is what you want to be there.
So what amount of gpl violiations did they do to quickly get that emulator up and running?
What do you mean
Did they change the controller support for Super Mario Galaxy? Does it support the pro controller?
Yes
I’m still gonna play it with my joy cons tho
For nostalgia
I have been playing with the pro controller with no issues

@@cavifax try playing sunshine with a wireless GameCube controller
I would love to see a remastered Eternal Darkness on the switch.
One of the best & most overlooked horror games of all time. The atmosphere was amazing. I played that and the Resident Evil remake back to back in 2002. Gamecube had a great year.
Are Nintendo games on Nvidia Shield emulated ? If yes, could this "Hagi" emulator be based on it ?
It could be interesting to check if these unused features are actually used by one of these games :
- The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess
- Super Mario Galaxy
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- Punch-Out!!
they are not emulated on the shield
Yes, they are emulated.
Watch Digital Foundry's video on them
Why super mario galaxy when it's part of 3d all stars
The Shield games are emulated, but with a totally separate emulator ("Lingcod," developed by Lightspeed Studios, a subsidiary of Nvidia). I have no idea why Nintendo asked both NERD and Nvidia to make separate Wii emulators for the Tegra X1, but they did.
Emulated yes. These are different emulators though. This emulator seems better. The approach to Galaxy is because The hardware struggles with Wii. The approach they used made the game run imo the best on the collection. The Galaxy port on the shield is running many assets at 480P like the Cutscenes and HUD. And it has frame drops.
These emulators are apparently newish. I'm sure they are referencing code from earlier emulators they worked on but all we can confirm for sure is these began development in february which is pretty fast for emulation development. I think there is use for these outside of the collection as well. I just hope any improvements made to the emulators moving forward are updated into the collection. SM64 could have 1080P and Sunshine should have many of the new glitches and framedrops patched out of it.
Developing an emulation layer just for one game doesn't sound like a smart business decision, I think it is going to be used for other games, definitely. Even though we don't really know how, for example we had N64 emulation on Gamecube for TLOZ Collector's edition, and that was it for the generation.
I believe most of the code they had developed to emulate OOT and MM was then reused on the Wii VC service for N64 titles, so this may only mean that Nintendo is planning to reuse some parts of Hagi for a GC VC type of service, possibly 7 years from now on some future iteration of Switch (which is most definitely going to be backwards compatible).
Knowing Nintendo, They're going to use it for more than just this.
@@DragonSlayerKyo Knowing Nintendo they'll make the bare minimum and call it a day, like this All Stars crappy port.
@@chadbrick67 That's quite embarassing to know, hopefully they got better with time, plus their hardware is much more powerful.
I am actually impressed with how well SMS and Galaxy run, I know Galaxy is also mostly a port but focusing on SMS: compared to Dolphin, on the same hardware, with a 3x upscaling, considering how well optimized Dolphin already is, I say it's not half bad!
@@chadbrick67 Absolutely, Dolphin is the golden standard of emulators imho.
Nintendo is the embodiment of bad business decisions.
A Mario Kart 3D all-stars wouldn't go amiss now either.

My hope: DS, DD, Wii. What we will get: n64, DD, Wii. Still a good game.
@@tjsmithson1598 I don't care what we get so long as Mario Kart 64 is a part of it.

modified MK64 with online support = holy shit
Sunshine had a relatively small development team for its time, with all the heavy lifting done, an even smaller team could have easily made a remake for the ages.
Imagine Isle Delfino with WiiU/Switch level graphics? But do go ahead and eat the Nintendo™ branded emulation slop.
Imagine Sunshine levels rebuilt in the Odyssey engine
Great video as always. Just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed all your videos. You are great! Thank you
This game collection IS a lazy cash grab though, for 20$ less than this game, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot got remade from the GROUND UP.
You'd think that for one of the most important and influential games of ALL TIME, Nintendo would do the same.
You're better off emulating this game with higher resolutions and higher framerates on PC.
Then again, Crash has horrible input lag on switch. It's playability is way worse than on pc, xbox or ps4.
I'd rather play a lazy port with no input lag than Crash. That said, I'm really disappointed with what Nintendo did for his price.
There's no excuse.
Counterpoint: The Crash and Spyro trilogies are all built from the same cloth; all three games are similar, but simply build upon the previous game’s mechanics. 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy are all vastly different and using one engine for all three games just wouldn’t work.
1 : emulation is technicaly illegal, as it litteraly break the rights of Nintendo of their litteral property...
2 : the main goal of the collection was obviously to bring those games on the Switch, which was quite litteraly what a huge amount of people kept begging them to do...
3 : If you don't want to buy it, it's completely fine, really. And if a lot of people think like you, he will be noticeable on the collection's sales. But spoiler, it won't.
Because if you look at it objectively, it could have been much better, and it is a cash grab, true, but it's still a fine product and Nintendo was always clear about what it is.
This is my problem with the emulation approach which is odd it's not mentioned in the video. The emulation approach makes sense to be able to offer a range of games in a cost effective way but the high price, super limited physical release and even a limited digital release show it's all just a cash grab. It's particularly damning that EA of all people have released an incredible remaster of the original Command and Conquer at a budget price.
@@Luragon9876 Emulation by itself is completely legal.
"Nintendo is lazy for using an emulator!"
It's like these people never met a seasoned developer.
Love the way you go about explaining everything. Wonderful videos man.
We've gotten a lot of videos this week lmfao this is great mvg keep it up
Another advantage of emulation: these games can be "ported" to new consoles indefinitely by just porting the one program
And have you pay for them over and over again, like the good little consumer you are.
@@DasAntiNaziBroetchen Didn't say it was an advantage for me, bro.
My theory is that coming sometime after March 31 of 2021, they will be bringing back the Virtual Console. The fact that these three games are emulations and not ports of the source code make sense when you think about it with that perspective. The game will only be live up until Mar 31st, at which point they’ll make the VC available to all and anyone who purchased the 3D allstars collection will be given those 3 games for free on the VC. They had these 3 ready so they bring it to market. They’re finalized emulations of these games pulled from their VC library that they’re working on. It also would makes sense why SMG2 wasn’t included, because it wasn’t ready yet. But that’s just my theory anyways
Great video as always! One side question - will you have the outro tune on your BandCamp page? It's superb!
Almost 500k bro!
I'm surprised you didn't mention how they're only planning on having it available for a limited time frame. I feel like there's pretty much no chance of them spending the time to directly port the games when they're going to throw them out soon.
More than likely that was a decision made after the collection's development and didn't influence whether to port the games or emulate them.
Not gonna lie, when you mention the possibility of more Gamecube games coming to the Switch, my first thought is F-ZERO!!!
Nintendo cmon man
YESSSSS MAN SAME WOULD KILL FOR GX ON SWITCH FOR YEARSSSSSSSSSSSS
How would it work without pressure sensitive triggers? You need them to be able to gradually tilt your racing machine in that game. Lack of GameCube controller support would definitely have to change if they were to bring certain games over. It's unfortunate in Sunshine, but for F-Zero GX it would be game breaking.
My first thought was HA! My Wii U been playing this for years
@@eghapee2267 Not really, they could map that the analog L and R buttons to the accelerometer/gyro horizontal tilting or maybe the right stick. Problem Solved.
As always thank you! Definitely an interesting insight! I agree and am looking forward to possible future releases
Thank you for using the word remaster correctly. Too many folks seem to think ground-up remakes are remasters

Very informative, thanks for summarizing the dataminer's finds in this convenient video.
Just because it's emulation doesn't mean they couldn't have made more improvements to the games.
If we see more emulated releases going forwards, I would really like to see Nintendo apply AI enhanced textures to the games. Makes a world of difference.
The Last Story sorely needs a remaster.
Not happening. Mistwalker only works on gacha mobile games now. They also shot down any chance of a remaster or even port

Eternal Darkness, of all the GameCube games I want this.
I'd prefer a cleaner port but it this is Thier approach going forward I'm fine with that too.
There are a lot of down sides to ports. Even the original All-Stars had issues, mostly with the original Mario title and it's kind of sort of sequal. You see this with remakes as well, the first Crash game has physics from the second game and consenquintly is harder for it.
You uploaded this faster than RGB 85’s video!
Its about time they started working on an in house emulation. Wish Sony would.
-edit-
Sony does have their own, but like Nintendo they're letting the communitys walk over them. I mean we have had these applications for quiet some time.
I thought Nintendo has been doing emulators for 20 years now.
since when does sony really care about backwards compatibility. they literally only think 8 games are worth playing from the whole PS4 period
Project 64 on the Wii wasn't great compared to the N64 emulation on VC games. I remember setting up Majora's Mask for a friend and he encountered so many glitches. Ended up just buying it on the Wii shop instead.
didnt ps4 and ps3 play Ps2 games through emulation?
@@AirshBornely wii shop was literally emulating games
Emulation is good. People to this day complain about parts of the 2D All Stars Collection where the games don’t run exactly the same as the originals because they weren’t emulated.
Fair point. Either redo 1-1 natively and don't mess it up, or go emulation route and don't mess it up
"Flexible solution."
Sure, but it still means more lazy ports on the way. Might as well forget about remasters, updates, fixes, better textures and improvements. They're all going to be a step down from what our emulators already do.
Not just that, but this is the switch, it's a battery powered mobile system and emulation takes more CPU and GPU work to produce the same result. On a non-portable console, who cares as long as it hits the right FPS, but on mobile where power consumption effects battery life? No, emulation isn't acceptable.
We emulate because we don't have the source code. Nintendo doesn't have that constraint and doesn't deserve to use it as an excuse.
If rumoured Skyward Sword remaster will still run at 30 fps it would be a disaster.
Great video.

I like how fast 3D all stars loads up. You are almost instantly in your game of choice.
Why couldn't they have done both? Nintendo has more than enough money to port these three 3D Mario titles and remaster the visuals, while also developing emulators for GC/Wii stuff. Especially since the emulation was apparently headed by the European branch, so...

DRVP GVNG Are you talking about Twin Snakes or Eternal Darkness?
Here's to hoping we get quality releases as a sort of virtual console in the near future
I recently learned about the Zed Freeze. It's a glitch that can occur in Minecraft when you try to place a sign on top of another sign.
“I think they did this for a reason”
Yeah. Of course they did. But that’s not the point.
Good grief... how many times now has Nintendo written an N64 emulator? I doubt this is their first GameCube emulator. Might be their first Wii emulator since the previous console was a Wii, but I would guess the lineage from GC to Wii to U would mean their internal GC emulator could be a Wii U emulator with some additional work.
Everyone keeps defending this as groundwork for a VC on Switch as if this represents the first LOC written to make such a thing possible. It’s not.
And at this point in the Switch’s lifecycle, I’m not sure I care anymore. Imagine getting a VC just to have the storefront shut down in five years when they upgrade to the Nintendo Buttton.
Frankly, no thanks. Nintendo has shown they can’t do emulation as well as fans anyway, so if you want NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii on Switch, fine, but if you’re waiting for Nintendo to make it happen, best of luck to you. I hope paying $60 for emulation that is half as good as unofficial emus is your bag.
I guess the silver lining is that you could justify the limited release of a no-effort All-Stars pack as evidence that the games might be available generally later on in standalone form. Pardon me while I don’t get excited about that prospect.
100% correct
Exactly this.
I don't know how people can keep justifying to themselves repurchasing old games over and over again with no actual improvements. Remasters are one thing but to just keep re-releasing titles wrapped in emulators is shitty.
If they want to make their old titles available via emulation then they should make it possible to keep a library of all your titles on all consoles, hell they should be more like Sega and let you play them on PC too.
100% agree. I preordered it before I knew it was emulation. I said oh well, its more of a collectors piece I guess. Then I get it and its a basic case, no manuals or anything with it... Very lazy all around for Nintendo on this one. I already have all three of these on original hardware, I wanted it ported with better graphics, just like the original all stars. I wanted a cool manual in the box with maybe a little history or a poster or something cool packed in... Not even a sleeve over the case.
@@nicks.youtube Sadly not everyone has the original hardware or games. I love that it is as close to possible as the original because for $60(US), I can get the 3 games and not have to purchase and N64, Gamecube, Wii and all three games. Plus, there is the hassle of actually connecting these to a modern television. You either have to accept a poor quality signal or spend even more money to upscale the picture or modify the console (so that it no longer is original hardware).
As for the original All-Stars, it had to be ported. The SNES can't emulate an NES. They all ran with the same hardware. Meaning there are a lot of similarities in how they work. This allows you to use assets from one port for another (which they did, that's why they all have the same sprites) (the original Super Mario Bros and The Lost levels were the exact game with different level designs). 3D Allstars comes from 3 generations of hardware. That means nothing can be shared between the three ports. They would each require separate ports and possibly separate teams to accomplish (3 teams on one game is not the best for anyone). So they did the best business practice of designing something that has the possibility of being reused, even if it might never get reused.
But yes, it is a cash grab. Am I enjoying it? Hell yes. If you already have the originals and original hardware, there isn't really much here for you, but then, you aren't probably the target for this release. I feel this is more targeted to those that are completionists (is that a word?) and need to have everything Mario, or whatever. That would also explain the limited window. Those that want it, will get it early on. Why keep producing something for an audience that isn't there, it's bad business. And at the end of the day, Nintendo is a business.
@@mc1876453 you are leaving out the option of emulating on PC if you have a half decent computer. IIRC they've gotten Dolphin very efficient and you should be able to run it on some rather low end devices now.
It'll be better emulation than in the Switch and you can use your OG controller with the appropriate adapter
What’s those strings about
We are defs gonna see more emulated ports from N64/GC/Wii. I'd say the limited availability of this package means once it's no longer available we will see them on the eShop as separate titles (it's the collection that's limited, not the games), along with the start of the trickling of other older games from those eras.
I just love emulation! I always have done right from way back in the days of NESticle and ZX Spectrum emulator on my Pentium 70 with 8mb of RAM back in the late 90s! Good times! Used to have to turn off the sound on the SNES and Megadrive emulataors just to get 15 FPS rather than 10FPS, still unplayable but fun to tinker with!
This emulators will be cracked to hell and back by the scene
fingers crossed
And they have to find out that you can't just "throw a game in and expect it to work"
10:28 Nintendo doing a cheap cash-grab? Yup, definitely not a one off thing. I agree they will likely re-use this tactic moving forward. I also look forward to seeing how Nintendo will re-use this tactic
Gotta say - Grat vid, and please keep the beard, it suits you :)
MVG never disappoints with his analysis.
I would love to see Double Dash, Melee, Pikmin, and many other classic gamecube games get this treatment with the emulation as it would be amazing!
Pikmin but with polished mechanics 😩👌
I love Nintendo and I bought the game but I'm going to keep it in it's wrapper. If I want to play these games I can just download the rom and have practically the same experience with the added bonus of save states and other visual improvements. I sort of wish I didn't buy it.
Honestly, I like the idea posited by this sort of hybrid emulation concept, and hope that emulators allow for some sort of method to access native code, to allow sort of hybrid applications to expand on the capabilities of the console being emulated.
THANKS JAGI!
But what about Dreamcast and Saturn games? With restored online functionality
I’m lookin at you Daytona USA!
Dreamcast Soulcalibur emulation with online play.....
Thats from sega not Nintendo
@@raptorzeraora2632 ?? obviously
PC ;)
SM64 was 10$ on the wii shop, kinda seems like a cash grab, but sunshine and galaxy look really good
^^This. I think the majority of people buying this weren’t even born yet when the Wii was out. Others seem to turn a blind eye to facts and let Nintendo rape their wallets.
Craig S ok its $16.66 per game if you buy it at Walmart at $49.98.
The price difference between the Switch and Wii price is only $3.77 (including inflation) and that’s for a physical copy. Quit your bitching.
@@agaad22still less, and after all I think you could find better deals than like you mentioned. And don't forget it is for a limited time
@Red Line I've seen quite a few comments around RUclips saying they were too young to play all three of these games. People still had children post 2007 that are now old enough to want something like the Switch.
I've enjoyed the past couple style of videos.
I am happy it is emulated because like you said they can easily move games over while also having enhancements to them I am hoping with the Zelda 35th we get Skyward sword in there and Windwaker. seeing both of those on the switch will be amazing especially if they target 60fps which I think is very plausible, and 720p on switch Lite looks really good due to the tiny screen. I am just ready to see what Nintendo does. As they don't normally just throw away something they used an R&D team for.
Finally, someone who backs their clickbaity speculation title with _actual_ superior technical experience and knowledge! subscribed
meanwhile, every other Nintendo channel: "Is SuPeR mArIo GaLaXy 2 hIdDeN iN 3d AlL-StArS?" (just because they used music from SMG2 and cropped SM64...)
MVG's content is pretty good :)
I think those games will be free. I think ultimately this is about *keeping people incentivized to stay subscribed to Nintendo Online* . Bringing classics from the GameCube & Wii era, & making them free to play, as long as a Nintendo Online subscription is in place.
Nintendo's Online service looks abit thin, compared to that of Microsoft & Sony. I think they are trying to mitigate that. If people pay for an online subscription (even for just a month), they will have direct access to lots of old classics. It could become a bit like Xbox GamePass when you think about it.
They just released 3 games for $60 and people are buying them... why would they start releasing them for free?
@@tehdopefish But it isn't exactly free, you have to keep paying for a subscription. don't renew subscription, you lose access to playing the games.
@@tehdopefish yes, $60. for 3 of the best mario games ever. but most older games aren't remembered as fondly, you'd have a hard time convincing many people to shell out money for them. this is why things like netflix work. people don't want/aren't willing to buy every single movie and tv show they want to watch. easier to have them available in a subscription service, and people can watch whatever they want for as long as theyre still subscribed.
Nice vid MVG!!!!!! and shoutout to Melbs Australia, may they get this COVID BS sorted!!!! PEACE BRO :)
Awesome video as always. One question as someone who barely understands how emulation works but avid to retro gaming. Emulation is generally "glitchy" and insofar as you approach more recent console generations it gets more glitchy as its very hard to emulate such a complex system. For instance, a Nes emulator is extemely accurate while Ps2 emulator have usually graphical glitches all over the board. So, my question is : will these emulated versions "glitchless" as Nintendo themselves are coding the emulation layer and they have access to their source code and can technically make a "perfect" emulator?
Let's be honest it's one of our favorite cash grab lol
Wii sports on the switch 0_0 :D
The joy cons are inferior to the pointer tracker on the Wii motion plus controllers. Imo
Go Vacation is available.
So they made emulation layers for each console and made this as kind of a "sampler" of sorts to see how it would work and sell leaving room for other games to be re-released this way. I didn't think of it that way.
Agreed, it’s a good move. Full ports take a lot of people and time, and this way they can release special collections (imagine all main N64, GameCube, and Wii Zeldas) and at the same time focus their main efforts on new games (which people are constantly clamoring for).
The one single thing I am genuinely upset about is the controls, or rather lack of inverted. It makes the games incredibly difficult to play (no I won’t get used to it, I’m older the commercial 3D games and it’s never happened before).
If they could patch that in an upcoming release I’d say I’m 100% satisfied with this release.
I’m intrigued to see how Skyward Sword will play on a Switch. Didn’t it leak a couple of months back on Amazon?
Mario Galaxy is unplayable as hell compared to wii so...
Retro Land I thought it was fine.
@@donkeykongisytpooping3002 no it's ok but mario galaxy is weird to play on Switch
Retro Land It takes some getting used too.
Can’t believe they didn’t add Super Mario galaxy 2
Its the game I wanted most ported to the switch and they skipped right over it lol. Brutal...
its around a 1.5 gb game and they chose to exclude it out of a 60 dollar limited timed release emulator... get ready to fork 60 dollars for its individual re-release haha
Are you all too young and only played galaxy 2 or what ?
Every comment section , seriously gimme a break
@@YounesLayachi ...What are you talking about? There's zero reason Galaxy 2 shouldn't be in a limited release full price 3d collection for a 35th anniversary. They could even put 3d world in as well if they weren't trying to sell it full price again, it has nothing to do with age.
@@oshjames9648 how did you misread my comment this bad ?
I'm not saying galaxy 2 as a game is too recent.
I'm not even talking about the game itself.
I'm asking why is everyone ignoring the 3 games included and lamenting the lack of galaxy 2 as it was "the best one" apparently...
Like they're not even happy that galaxy is included. They're pretty much the same freaking game, if you love 2 you can't hate the original galaxy.
Unless, of course, all of the people complaining were too young to play any of these games and started with galaxy 2 as their first game.
Now that makes it sound really cool now tbh
Don't forget a lot of games may have highly optimized chunks of assembly that are specific to their original platform. That assembly can't simply be re-compiled for an entirely different CPU/GPU. Those chunks would have to be rewritten with new assembly or something more generic. Those changes may introduce new bugs into the game that may might require tons of re-test hours to even find.
Instead, using the original executable and emulating the old hardware has much less that can go wrong (if the emulator is good). The emulator approach covers a much wider range of games with less risk of new bugs than porting.
I don't care to be honest
I ve already played it i don't want to pay up for something extra
This is the start of Nintendo selling older properties. Some will be limited releases for suckers as it will all go to the w shop for less.
Pretty much. They know that no matter how terrible and lazy ports are, fanboys will buy it instead of emulating for free.
@@MyNamesNotLars1 I bought the game on Switch, but that just means I want to play it portably at a decent speed
Heath Mitchell All three of these play at good speed on the Wii. SM64 was even a $10 Wii Virtual Console release. The only difference here is portability and 1080p which can be done on the Wii with an adaptor.
@@djd-cepticon7215 That's... not how resolution works, and portability is important to me
@@djd-cepticon7215 since when is the Wii capable of outputting at 1080p? I'm assuming you mean the Wii U.
Don't forget Metroid Prime Trilogy HD which has long been rumoured to be coming to Switch before the fourth game does. Those are Gamecube/Wii games too and the work done on Sunshine/Galaxy could very well be reused there as well.
Credit for owning the Lua/L.U.A. thing 😁 I'm really enjoying this collection, and I really don't care if it's using emulation or not. But this is really interesting. 🤞 for more!
I do wonder if Wind Waker and Twilight Princess will be skipped in this Gamecube library because the Wii U HD copies are already there and could be ported and sold for more.
I am hoping for a Mario Kart collection after watching this video I am hopeful it will happen
Feel like I've heard this all before, I'll believe it when I see it.
That makes total sense
