Whoever designed the leaf boat platform level, and how you have to take Yoshi all the way to the tiny island to clear the pipe, that person deserves to be waterboarded over and over.
The worse part about it is that you have to clear the lily pad mini game, otherwise if you leave the area or quit the game then you have to start the Yoshi boat platforming part ALL FUCKING OVER AGAIN, just to get a second chance on that damn lily pad.
HUGE tip for those playing in 2023: The best place to grind lives in this game is Pianta Village episode 6 "Piantas in trouble." In that episode you save 10 villagers, and 8 of them (the adults) give you a blue coin after talking to them once you save them. AFTER that, every single time you play the level, they give you a 1-up instead. This means that you get EIGHT 1-ups in under 2 minues every time you play the level. Those lives stack up FAST, and make beating the lilypad, pachinko, and FLOODless levels MUCH less frustrating because you dont have to deal with game overs
I’m not sure what made me want to throw my controller out the window more; the pinball mini-game or the lily pad mini-game. Some of the worst and most frustrating Mario content I’ve ever come across. Thank you for the excellent guide, much appreciated! 👍
The way the shine spawns in the middle of the Pachinko Machine instead of the little square at the front is the biggest middle finger Nintendo has ever flipped at a player. Nothing more degrading than stressfully getting all the red coins only to die because you didn't fall into the middle slot. Honestly sunshine is one of my favourite games in the Mario series but man there are a handful of awful missions that honestly make up just 5% of the game. But when they are bad, they really do stick out. Thankfully the required shines are mostly fine.
Easiest way to land there is NOT move the analog when you jump on the trampoline, you’ll land on a green bar every time and you can simply fall off to the Shine Sprite
I kinda prefer that because in the days before widespread RUclips guides you would play the game for years before you beat it and when you found an obscure secret like the bird you would feel like a gaming wizard and you held knowledge you would only tell to those worthy
Suggestion for new players: if you're going to play this game, I would recommend playing it on an emulator so that you can use save-states if you ever feel like you need to. There are many frustrating moments in the game that can ruin your flow. Also don't feel afraid to google something for help if you get stuck, as the game doesn't provide clues for a lot of hidden shines or blue coins. Don't feel like you're cheating, video games are made to be enjoyable for the player, and sometimes the game doesn't get everything right.
@@Brydude87 it’s easy because of this: you can cheese it. For the bottom two slots you can just spinjump and hover from the back platform to get them. For the top two just fall through the middle one and hover from the back to those.
I'm in awe at how unpolished this game is. Skipping some shines will give you a much better experience, but Sunshine's story progresses in such a strange way that you're sort of tricked into thinking you need every shine. In Peach's castle, there's a clear sense of progression with the different floors. Same for the comet observatory lighting up over time. Delfino Plaza just says "Ehhh sure, here's another level" arbitrarily and then leaves you without anything for 30 shines in a row. lol I got up to 60 shines before wondering wtf was going on and looking things up online.
if you play by trying to unlock every shine before heading to the next level, the game basically gives you absolutely no sense of completion or getting better for the first 3 levels and then just gives you all of the nozzles after you unlock yoshi...
@@nytrobros.4810 goopy inferno is hard but it isn’t a bad level. It forces you to use the game mechanics to beat it. You can cheese it too which is cool.

A lil tip for anyone doing the lily pads. I got 7 of the 8 coins on the lilly pad and carefully walked along the side all the way back to the start and found out a new lily pad spawns so i rode it again to get the last coin. Takes forever but way better than trying to get all 8 in one go.
Nice job, excellent video. The only thing I'll add, as I was confused myself and couldn't find a good explanation online, is to get back to the airstrip for the final shine you have to complete chapter 7 in all of the island levels. Then shadow Mario will flood the island and you have to follow him into the volcano and complete that level. After that the island is back to normal and you can travel to the airstrip.
