I called it the "slacking off challenge" because the pianta police in the cutscene said they knew if I would start slacking off. So I started slacking off.
@@charliefranklin8523 eh i did ok. My favorite thing about this series is you always explain how the glitches work and exactly how they exploit minute eccentricities of the game's physics. To me that's what makes speedrunning interesting.

8:09 Is the first time I've heard this ceiling snap glitch explained and I feel like one of the biggest mysteries of my childhood has been solved. A long time ago (I think before the Wii U was a thing) I encountered a similar glitch in Pinna Park, where I think an Electro Koopa shocked me on the same frame I grabbed the fence, and likely displaced Mario during the i-frames causing him to snap to the top of the map as shown here. Because the entire map was invisible due to the render distance, I thought I'd managed to despawn every object using this glitch XD
funnily enough bowser really isn't the bad guy in the first mario game: bowser's takeover is completely bloodless and there are some pretty heavy implications that peach's parents weren't exactly the nicest people what with the casual xenocide levels of racism and all that, the only person who actually kills or even harms anyone in that game is mario himself, even worse the people he harms the most are the ostensibly innocent civilians currently turned into blocks by bowser _to keep them SAFE_ during the coup.
@@anueutsuho7425 talking about the game theory bullshit? nah, I dunno anything about that, the whole thing about bowser literally not hurting a single person in the first game is straight from the game manual, he casts a kingdom-wide spell turning everyone into blocks, the similarly powerful individuals resist it, and mario sets to murderin' as far as I know we never once in any game get any explanation as to wtf happened to peach's parents: no indication they were turned into blocks but peach was alone when bowser got there and nobody has seen them sense, or even seems to remember they ever existed, they are mentioned in one sentence in the manual and like 2 pages of one of the very early comics nintendo made. personally my best guess is that Nintendo just straight up forgot they existed until it had been too long and too much had happened in the setting without them being mentioned so bringing them up would be awkward. as for mario being a murderous psychopath the biggest support for it is pretty dam simple: your score in the game comes from killing people and stealing money. on top of that multikills and fancy kills get you more points so killing people _stylishly_ is important to your score, at no point in the game do you actually HAVE to kill anyone and you're usually going out of your way to do it when you do, from an in-game perspective that score means absolutely nothing to anyone but mario, it doesn't even _exist_ for anyone but mario. nintendo games tend to be pretty fucked up once you take even a cursory look at them, and not just because-game-mechanics their stories and world mechanics tend towards the WTF too. great example: guess who has killed more people, Kirby or the Doom Slayer?

14:20 I was screwing around in Sunshine just the other day- my first ever full playthrough of the game. The plaza flooded, but the only main shine I had left was the eighth shine in Pianta Village. I was being difficult and didn't want to have to do Corona Mountain before finishing all those shines, so I started messing with that cover (you can't get the rocket nozzle with flood town time). On the first try, I got enough height, and went into the level to get the last shine (without fruit). I died doing the shine, but after it kicked me out the plaza was back to... not flooded- I was never able to recreate the glitch, so maybe it's only possible fruitless when the plaza is flooded? Either way, it might be worth looking in to some more. Basically I did that trick when the town was flooded with no fruit- wasn't able to do it again. But all the other tries were when the town wasn't flooded anymore.
Their definition of pacifist is weird anyway. In most games pacifist means not killing enemies where in this they decided that spraying animals and npcs with water isn't pacifist.
@@scantyer For birds and bees, you do kill them for their blue coins, so I get it. But having to reset if you accidentally bounce on an NPC's head is a bit dumb, imo. Funny enough: When I realized you could collect shines before fighting the Statue Section, I went on a mission to collect as many shines as possible! Went pretty good, but some shines require advanced glitch manipulation which I couldn't. But using glitches is quite fun, and overall the experience is satisfying! Most of them require manipulation skills to reach places that you are not supposed to reach, like the top of the Portal Shrine for instance. It is a challenge I recommend, as each shines is satisfying to obtain ^^ Like when you do the Yoshi skip! Sure it is tricky, but once you pull that out, YES! PS: I heard you could complete the whole game without ever touching the statue section, but I don't know how true and/or possible this is.
Fun fact: According to IIRC an interview with Miyamoto, you were once able to throw MIPS, and Mario even had a unique animation for it with him throwing him by the ears.

1. Have we gotten an even close to fully optimized Max% Pre-Peach/Pacifist TAS yet? I hope we do in the future!
2. How marathon viable is this, & what needs to happen for this to become marathon viable, considering it can already be completed in an hour or two? Would playing with position & speed tracking codes be necessary?
Incredible, exemplary video! Thanks for uploading! Can't wait for the next video!
I'd completely forgotten about Ant's ad secret about Trey doing the next Lowest Percent, so this was a pleasant surprise!
"Mario sunshine is a VIOLENT game"
I mean, you apparently choked rabbits in Mario 64. Exploding birds with water is perfectly fine.
Fun fact: According to IIRC an interview with Miyamoto, you were once able to throw MIPS, and Mario even had a unique animation for it with him throwing him by the ears.
@@LonelySpaceDetective I wish I could throws MIPS down a bottomless pit like you can with the baby penguin.
You violently stomp on creatures in lots of the Mario games.
I love the heartbeat being 87 and 90. amazing reference.
Sub-channel called the Max Percent that does low% run reviews
This channel together with SmallAnt have gotten me into speedrunning in general and I love it - even though I'm still learning the most basic things
Early Lowest Percent videos feel special cause you know they're gonna be huge one day. I was here at the start, yo!
ayy, that's the dream
You really know how to make interesting videos and always choose the best games! Great job in this one. 20 minutes looks like 5 minutes when I am watching this kind of quality stuff.
"Let's see what is possible for Max% Pacifist." **ad plays**
Thank you, youtube.
I would think the video was demonetized because of c*r*na mountain
I wouldn't know, I use an adblocker
i was just watching all your videos and then another one came out great timing
Love the Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire music
Good vibes
Man I love this channel, y'all really struck gold with this concept and it's such a cool way to get introduced to other runners.
I've been trying out pre-peach on my own whenever I start a new file, but I never knew just how much you can do before she gets kidnapped. Also didn't know the shine gate switched it's collision afterwards!
I love Super Mario Sunshine and that was awesome to watch
Mario be like: “I’m going hurt you so I can save you from me!”
I've never done or watched a single speed run and yet i've watched every single video from this channel
What have we learned kids? Fruit is overpowered.
Loved the script for this one, it was hilarious and very engaging!
The Gen 3 music when you showed the LOTAD-
I love how this is a Mario video and they have Pokemon music in the background here (15:28)
