It's still so fascinating to me that even in Dark Souls, where the gods were still alive, the world was very much past its golden age. And in Dark Souls 3... it was no more than a pathetic joke to a god's vision.
@@stormbringer7773 That's what was so insidious about Gwyn's darksign. It insured that there would always be humans drawn to the embers of the first flame, to try to rekindle it. If you won't link the fire, someone else will. In a way, the linking of the fire was just as inevitable as the fire's fading. The entire plot of DS3 is basically everyone who is capable of linking the fire refusing to do so, while the plot of DS2 is about Aldia searching for _any_ other options and failing.
@@DarkRama-n-i Good ear. I think the same; for me it's basically foreshadowing the endless, cursed cycle that has been set into motion. no game made me feel the same emotions as DS1, and I doubt any game ever will. Even though DS3 was my first Souls game, and one that I hold dear to my heart, I can admit that.
Personally I prefer ds 1 and 2 to the 3 even tho the 3 is objectively better the 3 is trying to much to have a dark and grim esthetic but the 1 and 2 have that dark and grim lore with sunlight and beautiful landscapes even tho it’s still a dying world
The beauty of Dark Souls is that the title "Nameless Song" is the most fitting for the ending song. You start as a nobody, achieve greatness, only to return to being a nobody, to return to ash. And, at the very end of the series, two nobodies, the Ashen One and Gael, fight in a world, that has gone through so many cycles of life, only to return to ash aswell. There isn't a better allegory, not even in classic literature, to decay and death, the eventual fate of all things. I am leaving this comment here for those of you, who are like me. I can thank half of my being to Fromsoftware and their games.
I personally hate the whole cycle thing they introduced in ds2 and ran with in ds3. It made me feel like my accomplishments in ds1 was meaningless. Notice how it is not mentioned in ds1 that there are cycles. If you chose the age of fire or dark ending, it meant something. Until they released ds2 and retconned the lore into classic Japanese Buddhism cycle themes.

The first time hearing this song after beating DS1 for the first time was genuinely so weird.
