@@Deathworm-eg5lt yeah Ds1 has this sort of fantasy mysticism to it with its menu theme. With so many instruments in the mix, you don't feel alone. Especially given the finality of the game, it feels like it would have been more appropriate. This is by far my favorite menu theme in the franchise.
Yeah I agree. I can’t bring myself to dislike DS3’s menu theme, because, come on, it’s incredible, but yeah, the somber, calm and melancholic ones of DS1 and DS2 just hit different. In a lot of ways, DS3 is much better than it’s siblings, smoother, crisper gameplay, more mechanically complex and interesting bosses, but my biggest complain is that it lost quite a bit of the eerie strangeness of DS1 and 2 that made them feel really special and charming to me. DS3 looks much more like standard dark fantasy.
You're absolutely right. I was downright disappointed when I first heard the DS3 menu. I remembered the melancholy from the DS2 menu and then the calming, hopeful music from Majula. I always spent 5 minutes listening to it before every game. Maybe that's why I love Dark Souls 2 so much.
Yes its melody is lonely with the piano having the front stage and the strings in the background, sound melancholic. Contrasting Ds1 Menu theme, which give a fantasy yet familiarity vibe with the harp and wind pipes/flute arrangements.
I haven't played any souls games but Elden ring, which I've actually really enjoyed so far. But naturally I've become very interested in the entire series. And my god the first 2 dark souls from the gameplay and music I've seen is such a vibe. Like something I really love is that feeling some games games give me. Usually older games. A isolating, despairing, melancholic but also hopeful mysteriousness kind of vibe. Some games that had those type of feelings for me was Sonic Adventure and Unleashed, Halo Combat Evolved Halo 3 ODST, minecraft and Elden ring a bit. Like just playing those games feels like an experience and you can really get invested in. The ambient music from some of the Souls games and the way they look has that specific vibe that I REALLY fw. Once I'm satisfied with the Elden ring I'm probably going to play the original Dark Souls just to experience it. It may be hard but I really want to experience more of the world of the souls games.
I feel you bro, same here. I love these vibes, sometimes it's even better than the game itself. Like i tried to replay DS2 not too long ago, stopped after an hour or two and didn't came back still. Yet i often remembering locations, art-designs, characters, dialogues, sounds, listen music, and it gives me very warm feelings. It's not like the game is bad, more like the best part of it starts after you complete it and the whole experience starts to settle down in your mind as something coherent. Like, while you're playing, it's not the same as when you're remembering it. Damn, i guess i just described the word "nostalgia" 😂
Ngl, I feel the music better than the game itself. :/ It's the norm imo like music is just too much that gameplay can't deliver the feelings to match. In DS1 or DS3 you have a better understanding of what is happening and what your role is, characters are more linear in their speech, they guide you more and tell you more. I think this happened to DS2 because of some production issues, but somehow they managed to make it work on the overall "vagueness" of the atmosphere.

The way it transitions from a godly choir to a shattered mess of vocals followed by a melody of desperation and misery. It's just really beautifully melancholic
I got the game 3 days ago after thinking it was time for me to play all the souls games after I beat dark souls 1 four months ago. After struggling a bit in the forest of fallen giants once I got past the pursuer the game has been amazing. I really don't know why people hate so much on the game, the controls are a little confusing at first because they're so different but the amount of hate this game got is unwarranted. Right now I'd guess I am around halfway done with the game and hope to clear it soon so I can move on to DS3. Praise the sun!
Good luck on your journey! Dark Souls 2 was and still is my favourite in the series. As some others here mentioned, it added alot of stuff which were really great and was never carrief over to 3 (some for better or worse.) I remember people complaining about omni-directional rolling, during lock-on or mostly ADP which is a crutch stat mostly. People focused so much on soul memory (which, yeah...breaks coop and invasions) and agility, that they missed all the myriad of soul this game had. Despite its troublesome developement, it turned out great, had it been given more time, the engine change not happening and the og director leaving mid production, maybe it'd have turned out much much better. Still love this game to bits, flaws and all.
DS2 is my first souls game and it will forever stay in my heart. However comparing the other games I eventually played, I notice the funny lift to a mountain is just so stupid lol.

In Dark Souls 1, the menu theme isn’t exactly joyful but it has hope of that’s the word. It’s lighter if that makes sense. This one gives off a whole “all hope is lost” kind of vibe, and is a beautiful piece to match a beautiful game
@@stimsonswantlunch1205 you’re actually wrong, it does not have a menu theme. The theme you’re thinking of is the character creation theme, but I completely understand your confusion.
I used to be one of those people who always sneered when someone said that this game was their favorite of the series. For years I would scroll past the game in the PlayStation Store and think to myself “I’m not a masochist, I’m never buying this game”. But as time went on I had fewer and fewer souls games to play and complete. And then the Black Friday sale came and I saw it was on sale for a good price. At that moment something deep inside me said,”just try it”and I am so,so happy I did. This game has that…magic to it that I haven’t felt for long time, the same magic I felt the first time I played DS1 or when I explored the lands between for the first time. But even as I say that this game just feels so unique when compared to the rest of the series, so creative with the locations and enemy designs (the mastodon knights are a personal favorite of mine) you can tell that after DS1 From was not afraid to get more creative and Zany with this one and I really respect that. Now don’t get me wrong, this game definitely has its problems *cough* adaptability *cough* hit-boxes *cough* and there are a few things I just refused to do like frigid outskirts and darklurker because I value my sanity. That being said, those things don’t do a lot to change how I feel about this game now. In my opinion DS2 does not deserve to be called the “black sheep” of the franchise. Even though it has its flaws this game deserves to be celebrated as a masterpiece along with all the other games of the series and I am so glad to say that my past thoughts were wrong.
DS II is my first Dark Souls game, my pals called me suicidal for playing it and not DS I or III, i don't regret this choice, yes DS II is kicking my ass because that's not Elden Ring, and despite how unfair he can be most of the time, i love this game.
This game got way too much hate when it had the most in it out the souls series, it had the most bosses out of all the games and alot of unique weapons armor, lots of challenges it was the best for me i spent hours upon hours on this game and i dont regret a thing
Dark Souls 2 theme hits different. It just makes me think of the kingdoms of the game, once prosperous, full of happy people (well maybe not so much with the Iron King) and now it's all gone, in ruins. I don't care what people think about this game, for me it's the saddest souls game
my rank for the main menu theme is: 1. DS2 2. DS3 3. DS1(because it literally doesn't have one, unless you count firelink shrine or character creation.) though overall soundtracks DS3 is the best.
Appreciate ds2.. its director went on to work on elden ring. some of elden ring's stuff is taken from this(dual wielding being good) and a few eternal ring references(golden seed as a example)
While I found DS2 to be an overall 6/10 experience, (DLCs were great for the most part). This theme will rank as one of my favourites. I’m happy I took the time to play through it to formulate my own opinions on the game instead of rubbing it off.
From what I know and have heard from others, Ds2 is the one that is knowingly distant from the others. It's a world where lingering echoes of the first game can be heard, we don't know how far Anorlondo is or where the kiln of the first flame lays, if it's even there anymore. This is drangleic, somewhere else, with it's own story to tell. Then we have the 2 endings. If you take that throne, you'll just give into the corroding cycle of the first flame, let it burn, let it die out. But you can also just leave, brush off these ideas of fate and destiny, and go and create your own stories. That last part gave me a slight chill while writing it. :)
Game had amazing music and atmosphere better than all the other souls games tbh even though ds3 music is great but this music touched me in a strange way, this game has the worst combat system and idc if people say oh oh git gud i played ds and ds3 with no problems except when you lock on to nameless king's dragon but enemy placement in ds2 is shit but the atmosphere kept me going the most it was well done and i hated ds3 painting of arindel because the same devs for ds2 did the bullshit enemy placements and insane damage scaling, but mostly for me its too short and is boring because they were like lets add sister fried with not 2 but 3 bullshit forms that was boring fustrating and overstayed is welcome and the reward is to go to ringed city early. Fuck that. Ringed city was WAY better imo even when you could do it early.
I loved DS2 Scholar of the First Sin more than DS1. It was beautiful in its flaws, strangely. Really had a good time with it (I love ds1 too don't worry!)
this song doesn't really fit with a slashing attack game like darksoul2, I can imagine there is a deadly quiz, or a dark maze, suit for a mental challenge game

This song is how I imagine it must feel to be a mindless, 0 SL hollow
This game got way too much hate when it had the most in it out the souls series, it had the most bosses out of all the games and alot of unique weapons armor, lots of challenges it was the best for me i spent hours upon hours on this game and i dont regret a thing
0:11 not sad but emotional
I love how mysterious this theme sounds
If someone never knew the context or played a souls game and read these comments they’d think we were talking about a different game
Theme of life
Forever Peak
The menu music is the most peaceful part of this game
Dark Souls 2 theme hits different. It just makes me think of the kingdoms of the game, once prosperous, full of happy people (well maybe not so much with the Iron King) and now it's all gone, in ruins. I don't care what people think about this game, for me it's the saddest souls game
No theme in the entire trilogy evokes the feeling of desperation better than this one.
3:20 this part is so good, it gives me C418 Minecraft music vibes.
This song always gave me silent hill 2 vibes
May I ask why?
DS2 is when we really started to get phenomenal souls soundtracks imo
Demon souls and ds menu themes were awesome too .....armored core 4 answer is the best fromsoftware ost imo
Every Soulsborne games are fcking beautiful ❤
Best souls game after dark souls 3
This is my favorite piece of music in all of Fromsoftware's games.
this game wasnt even bad i dont get why people hate on it
whats that red ring on the xbox mean :)
Wow, actually beautiful.
my rank for the main menu theme is:
1. DS2
2. DS3
3. DS1(because it literally doesn't have one, unless you count firelink shrine or character creation.)
though overall soundtracks DS3 is the best.
Appreciate ds2.. its director went on to work on elden ring. some of elden ring's stuff is taken from this(dual wielding being good) and a few eternal ring references(golden seed as a example)
I like to think the piano part is referencing Gwyn's theme but a lot slower. 0:42
While I found DS2 to be an overall 6/10 experience, (DLCs were great for the most part). This theme will rank as one of my favourites. I’m happy I took the time to play through it to formulate my own opinions on the game instead of rubbing it off.
So I’m trying to figure out why the main theme isn’t in the ost with the sofs dlc songs
Even whene ppl said that dark Souls 2 is bad I still love the menu music❤
a version w the sword unsheathing sound would heal me
Peak dark souls
there is no new information
the sorrow, the beauty. on the level of halo 3 and haalo 4
thank you for my therapy🤣
I don't know why, but if I could jump into a univers where dying equals strength.
The DARK SOULS II service is not available.
Skyrim dwemer helmet profile picture... based.
Nunca entenderé a la gente que odia ds2 💔💔💔
This theme perfectly captures the mood of the series, better than the DS3 theme as well even though it's my favourite.
❤
Reminds me of the PS2 intro
I always thought that a souls is not an epic adventure is a sad path that is way i prefer this menu theme than the elden ring one and the dark souls 3
If DS2 was as good as the OST it would be the best game ever made
This shit is so...😢😢😢😢❤
The sounds at first sound like they're inside a mall.
I don't like a lot about this game, but credit where credit is do: the soundtrack goes unimaginably hard
I loved DS2 Scholar of the First Sin more than DS1. It was beautiful in its flaws, strangely. Really had a good time with it (I love ds1 too don't worry!)
Sounds like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood OST Nocturne of Amestris
this theme is just too good to not sample for a song
Mariah… 😢
I love you
Love this game but hate the game play lol plz remaster
this song doesn't really fit with a slashing attack game like darksoul2, I can imagine there is a deadly quiz, or a dark maze, suit for a mental challenge game
So funny that they sampled a random Christian song for that choir in the beginning
ghost piano, don't fit well to darksoul, but still good
Did ASAP Ferg sample this on "Hood Pope?" Sure sounds like it backwards to me
The best of the trilogy
