  • Today we review and compare two single barrel releases from the Four Roses distillery. Four Roses uses 2 different grain mixes (75/20/5 of corn/rye/barley or 60/35/5) and 5 different yeast strains to create 10 unique bourbon recipes. The standard single barrel release is 100 proof and always OBSV. Only the 2nd and 4th character changes: The "B" stands for the higher rye mash bill and the strain of yeast is “V” which is described as being delicate fruit, spicy, and creamy.
You can also select any version of the 10 expressions as a single barrel through Four Roses Private Select line. The one we sampled was OESV which is the lower rye mash bill with the "V" yeast strain and is described as delicate fruit and caramel. The Private Select line is always bottled at barrel proof...this was bottled at 110.6 proof.
The notes that they share for each individual expression are pretty spot on. For the price, you’re getting a pretty good value for your money. These are full of flavor and unlike most other single barrels on the market, you can usually find the standard release all year round.
If you have a whisk(e)y you would like us to review, leave a note in the comments!!!
    Cheers!!
