Was never a Volvo fan. Grew up surrounded by the 2000-2010's and even through 2015 just did nothing for me. Turns out I just needed to look before and after. The newest ones look sleek and the older ones have character. Also saw an old P1800 in person and it's genuinely beautiful
@@lawtowngirl85 Screw the haters, you were driving one of the best built automobiles ever produced. I would take it a step farther and say the best piece of machinery ever built. Spent some time In sliver lake, los angeles recently and there are 240s everywhere there, it was awesome.
I had one of these. Solidly built, I loved the velour seats, the big long bonnet, the roomy boot, the automatic transmission, the sunroof, the ledge on the dash to put things, it seemed to hit the road rather than the road hit it. But after a long run I felt I’d been in the waltzer, I was dizzy , and forever filling it up! Then I got a 2005 v70. Oh gosh what a difference!
I've owned a 242 turbo since I turned 16. It was my first car. I turn 40 in May. My 242 now makes 1000+whp and is one of the cleanest 240s in New England.

Nice review, thank you. The Moose is a play on the Ferrari Stallion; the Stallion is sleek and fast, but it's difficult to stop or hurt a Moose. I've been repairing Volvo 240s for 26 years in Oregon, and they are the best car ever made. Built with rare integrity, they can last forever, doing everything that you need a car for. Very safe, very reliable, and quite easy to repair. There will never be a car like the Volvo 240.
My aunt and uncle had this exact car. It later had an 83 front end, after my cousin get in an accident in it. Also, one of my close friends from high school had an 88 in a light copper brown color that I went everywhere in. Nice roomy cars.
I like that back seat review, very nice idea - and funny to read "why didn't you use the other side" in the comments. Come on! 2000 reviews or so, this one missing won't hurt
I really love that clock in the instrument panel. It both fits and is so out of place. Also clocks are usually so small and ignored but that one's so huge and prominent.
OMG that's almost the exact car I learned to drive in! My father had yellow 244 circa 1980. I got my license in 1981. My Mom had a Cadillac Seville. What I remember about the Volvo and still enjoy today in my 2020 Sentra is that it could make a u-turn on a residental street. The caddy being American was a 3 point turner.
I'm sure most 240 enthusiasts know this but you can easily swap out the clock for a tachometer. They're already wired for it. Did it for my 85 with one I picked up for a couple bucks at a pick and pull yard.
I had a 1992 Volvo 240 the last years (90-93) had the air bag. There are great cars if you upkeep them. I love how easy it was to fix them and parts can still be found in the dealer. Most Volvo 240s have part from other years that just fit in so if you're looking for a 240 just know what you're looking for and what you're looking at. IPD is a good place to get information about the 240 and Facebook had tons of groups and people willing to help (I am one too) I can go for years why I love the Volvo 240. for me the best years are 90-93 their wires are better. I miss Mr. Volvo.
grew up with the exact same car, in the exact same colour in the 80’s and early 90’s. Basically was a rolling tank. The headrest were to make viability easier for the occupants in the car. Just another querk.
These pre-modern Volvos are what made the company great. They're not the most exciting or fast but they're consistent. You always know what you're going to get. These Volvos are good for a quarter million miles or more. I've always thought it funny how big the headlights on these cars are and how dim the old halogen system actually is. The ones with sealed beams may be uglier but the sealed beams can be upgraded. Butter yellow is a car color you don't see any more. Jeep should start selling faded yellow as next year's color.
I hate when everyone says these cars are heavy. Literally everyone I talk to and lots of reviews say the thing is heavy. Is like 2700 pounds full driving weight, not really that heavy

the P1800 is totally slept on
For the longest time it was the unofficial car of Vermont college students.
Interesting! Sounds way better than the Subarus. My manual 87 240 still runs strong
lol here in Florida it was for me I was hated for my 92 volvo.

One of the best European cars ever.
I've been daily driving 240's since 2001. Best car ever!

Those "vents" in the headrests are to help with visibility.

Rollin' down the road in a yellow brick! I love it.
As long as the world keeps turning, there will be a Volvo brick getting down the road. Love it.
That back seat review is the best one of your career. Hands down!
Iconic, stately and very ‘old money’
5:20 Believe it or not, Volvo called this car Yellow. YELLOW!!!
fact

My brother used to have a blue 1986 Volvo 240, he made a license plate for it that said BULLDOG! Great name for that car.
I also have a 240 DL but a white one and i love it so much
I have an 86 240 wagon . White and tan . Love her.

That analogy of the walnut end table was spot on 😂

These were everywhere when I was a kid in the 80s. My neighbors had the wagon. Boring, but very reliable and durable.
Brick FTW
Love the wagon of these years. in manual of course .
These Volvo’s are one of the best cars ever made! Please do a video on the Mercedes Benz w123 300d or 220/240d, or w116 chassis. Thank you!
Had a 345 DL as reliable as the sun coming up it just went and went these era Volvo are the dogs.
Looks like the home made cupholder solution gets in way of the parking brake.
But I guess it's ok on a automatic.
Maybe not the most attractive cars, but certainly safe.
Classic box on wheels
Have this exact same model and year 240 but in manual and it is such a good daily driver. Loved the vid!
Love it! My first Volvo was an 88' 240
Iconic vehicle 👍

My grandma bought a brand new two door 240 in the late 70s. The dealership gave her $50 off for choosing a baby blue one.
My daily .. 92 240 .. fantastic car .. and yes .. the odometer..radio .. and a/c do not work . Feels so good to drive .
One of the very few European cars I'd happily daily
I've always loved the 240. In my opinion, Volvo was never the same, after they discontinued the 240.

the US cars came with plastic lenses for this front end, the Euro models with glass don't fade

In what universe is this car only 2700 lbs? I love the 240, but they aren't that light.
@@metal4ever516 2750 low on fuel with no driver is how much mine weights 👍 look it up for yourself but this is my experience
Also, the seats were supposed to be orthopedic. I want to try them out.
Depends on what your travel need is, but if we talk about a-b, then take the brick
When Volvo stopped rear-wheel drive, it also stopped being Volvo. I'm Swedish and I've owned quite a few real Volvos.
Looks exactly like a 1974 144 my dad owned up to 1977.
That whole Volvo platform solid on Swedish safety back in the day. All about safety not nesercerly style... Nice rust free example
That is the weirdest spelling of "necessarily" I have ever seen
does a 240 exist that has a working speedo? lol. I swear every time I see one of these the speedometer is broken.
Mines broken 😅
It would lose a full second on the 0-60 if the trunk weren't full of junk.
Exactly.. and to leave junk in there when zack is going to review it . 🤦♂️ I guess some people like junk in the trunk !😂
@@Crispychicken4uwhere else are you supposed to leave your junk
Just YES
Just wish they weren't so damned hard to find these days... it's impossible to get a decent quality vehicle anymore.
So cool
i want one

What was the deal with the big stuff animal...? I thought maybe you would get in on the passenger side to do the backseat review...
