This car has the bigger 2.4, not the 1.8. Thanks!
No hard feelings Zack. We just wanted to let you know. Thank you, Happy Holidays!
Man I love these 2000s/2010s Toyota and Lexus reviews
Truly one of the best cars at being a car
Zack, There was no 2014 Matrix in the American market. In the US, the Matrix was on sale for model years 2003-2013. Only Canada, where the Matrix was built, received a 2014 because we bought them in HUGE numbers. To this day, we harbour a lingering resentment 😡towards the American indifference which resulted in the untimely demise of our beloved Matrix. 😥
This has quickly turned into one of my favorite channels🥇
The first gen Toyota matrix Xrs with the 2ZZ motor is where the party’s at 👍
Yeah the manual ones. Also the vibe GT
I have a 2005 Matrix AWD in my garage in upstate Michigan.
It's what to get when you need a Subaru, but don't want to buy a Subaru.
Very effective in snow with winter tires.
Canadian here, and I absolutely agree!
I always keep my eyes open on Facebook marketplace for one, and sadly cannot find one.
I have a base 2009 and I love it. It’s like your dog, always ready for action when you call its name. Runs like new at 197k
That's a 2az-fe 2.4litre, not a 1.8.
Just looked it up. These cars can have the 2AZ, I think this one does
Looks like it shares the 2008 Auris body, basically a Corolla hatch in Europe. Not the most spacious car and the dash, center console was bit weird but reliable and easy to maintain.
I can see the similarities.
I got a 2006 matrix with 91k miles and it runs like a dream 👌
Zack, that's clearly the optional 2.4 AZ engine. The 1.8 does not have the exhaust manifold in the front. Got to double check things before posting.
My Christmas wish is for a new intro that doesn't make me jump everytime I hear it.
They should've shampooed those seats! Yikes!!
Great cars! You missed the flat folding front passenger seat! I had 2 cars of that generation and they could carry anything from 8 foot 2x4 to dishwasher! The corolla cross is the spiritual son of those but cost more...The traction control on the front drive unit was really bad, cutting down power when slippage occured, not giving you a chance to gain momentum, even with winter tires...my 2009 vibe is still going strong after being rolling around in Québec winter since march 2008...little tanks indeed!
So what is the intro and outro music? I like it a lot
I have a 2007 XR, have seen others and base models but never an S. Which is odd since I live In New England where AWD would be handy in the winter.
Thank you so much for your car review’s I absolutely love them, I can’t lie I did find out about you through CCF but it was a great decision to go check out your channel, I almost wanna buy a Chrysler aspen just so you can review it 😂😂😂
I'm also pretty certain that the Land Cruiser and 4Runner are not going to cannibalize sales at all just like all the 4Runner and Land Cruiser stans tell me, despite being the same size using the same frame offering the same seating costing the same and being the same car. Just like how the FJ Cruiser was a massive success and was sold to this very day.
Zack is a psychic and can predict my future. I just started to look to buy one of these today because my 2001 geo tracker blew a head gasket the other day going to work.
Bring back the Geo Tracker!!
Then in 2016, Toyota came out with the Scion iM then later became the Toyota Corolla Hatch
Was waiting for a matrix review but wish it was the 1st gen xrs. That’s where the fun’s at
He has a review up already for the Pontiac vibe GT which is essentially the same cat
In 2024 there is still A LOT of Matrixes on road in Ontario. They were and still are great compromise and they last long time. Finding them with some crazy milage is easy. What worked against them was price. It was a fair bit more expensive than regular Corolla. This concept didn't die because Toyota made later updated version called Scion iM if I'm not mistaken. Current Corolla Hatch is kinda continuation of it as well.
The roof line of the Matrix stands 6 inches taller than today's Corolla hatch. The Matrix seating position is also much higher which makes entry and exit much easier. The Matrix/Vibe were designed with practicality and adaptability as the main priorities. Today's Corolla is a small, cramped car that happens to have a hatch. Try carrying an 8 foot ladder or a small bundle of 2X4s in the current Corolla hatch. In overseas markets where Toyota also sells the Corolla wagon the impractical nature of the hatch is not an issue. Sadly, Canadians cannot buy a Corolla wagon so it is necessary to buy a bloated CUV like a Corolla Cross or RAV4 instead. Neither of those is anywhere near as adaptable as the Matrix.
Wow I would have assumed these were all FWD. The Toyota Fielder is also really cool but JDM.
I can't decide if the Fielder or Probox are cooler.
@@rightlanehog3151I would personally prefer the Fielder, I think the Probox is more for commercial use!
I picked up one of these from a friends mom for 1500, an S AWD but I think a little higher optioned as it has a sunroof and more body cladding. I picked it up to have AWD as in the Sierra Nevada Mountains the lackluster road maintenance (poor plowing and no salt used California wide) makes it tough in 2wd even with snows. I love it, I wish it was a stick but really my only qualm is that transmission. And I totally understand what you and the CEO meant, it is really good at a lot of things but just feels unfocused and a bit boring because of it my other car is a 91 Corolla DX, and something worth noting is I believe the matrix and my corolla were both built at the Fremont CA factory, the only Toyota plant to ever shut down, to then become the Tesla plant!
Every Matrix was built in the former Corolla plant in Cambridge, Ontario. The Pontiac Vibe was made on the Corolla assembly line in Fremont, CA. 6 weeks after the Fremont plant closed Toyota due to' lack of market demand for Corollas' Toyota announced the tooling would be shipped to an empty plant in Mississippi where production would resume ASAP. Toyota's assembly operation is Australia has also shut down.
The Matrix is a slow car that's fun to drive fast.
we never got the Matrix in europe, but i remember it from the TV show Chuck (:
It always bothered me that the Corolla / matrix back then had bigger motors with actual AWD (for the matrix) and now all we get is a 2.0
Want me to fix up the audio gain on your intro? Thing blows me out of the water on your vids. They’re great! Send me your intro audio clip if you want me to do some auto correction.
Scotty Kilmer's 2nd favorite car after his celica. This was pontiac's toyota.
This was the worst out of all of them because it was the heaviest and the slowest
As awesome as I like these, the Pontiac Vibe is awesome. GM lower prices with Toyota reliability.
2.4 it should have decent power but awd draws power that's why i like part time 4wd , unless this application had enough power to spin tire then that would be cool .
158 hp 6000 rpm so at 4k probably 137 hp 162 lb.ft at 4000 rpm,
andrew tate hates this car
Hey Zack!
If my old 2007 MY Hyundai Santa Fe could have a 5-speed auto, Toyota certainly could've put a 5-speed auto in a newer car fancy enough to still have AWD.
Scotty Kilmer approved.
That driver's seat is disgustingly dirty.
What's up scotty!?
I've NEVER seen these on the road wtf? they look SICK are they like a europe only car or something??
Um, no. Clearly this is in the USA lol
They're very common wdym
@@My_Old_YT_Account I live in the northeast USA, I only ever see 2wd Matrix's XR and thats it, I've NEVER seen these.
@@Electronica27 they look the exact same, how would you even know in traffic?
@My_Old_YT_Account no they don't and if i dont recognize it i look at the badges. They always are missing the awd badge. I see corollas, bmws, mercedes, fords otherwise.
Same story for the CH-R? Identity crisis.
