I'm either mad, or a genius, but I've been using my TCL R646 as a monitor for about two weeks now and a TV for a couple months. It's worked out incredibly well, and has held up amazing in the long haul. Here's my long term take on this TV, easily the best bang for buck on 4k 120hz TVs.

@minimalisTech Hi man thanks for the video ….do you happen to find your games are washed out at 120hz ? Or when vrr is enabled ? Please let me know your thoughts 😊
That Tom DeLonge guitar just silently chilling.
I bought the 55 inch version, and so far it's been spot on. Firmware updated during the setup using the home app.
Its been solid , not buggy at all. You know the drill apps are apps some better than others. Netflix has always been weird at times.
Thank you for the amazing review! We appreciate you showing love! ♥
Absolutely! Great product! Still use it everyday :)
I’ve had the TV for about six months and I think it’s the best. Amazing picture. There is not a better deal with gaming. I have. Oled C2 as well and this TV goes toe to toe with it.
Kinda debating between this TV and the C2. Not sure if I want to spend double the money on a C2.
Would you say the C2 is worth that much more?
@@FuzzyDuckk In my opinion… I like the 646 better because it’s brighter, much less expensive, and it’s close to Oled.
If you have a brighter room get the 646. Darker room, get the C2. For gaming, I prefer the 646 just because it’s brighter and easier to see enemy. Hope that helps, remember after spending tech changes so much every year spending a lot doesn’t give you the best for long.
@@lulshield1800I’m liking mine so far. Idk if I have correct settings for my Series X. But I have it looking pretty nice.
Does the Tcl r646 half the resolution at 4k 120fps
If you are using this TV as a monitior ive got a tip that i use. Create a custom resolution in Windows to turn this 55" 4k monitor into a 39" ultrawide monitor with vrr and 120hz. Just buy a high bandwidth displayport to hdmi cable.
for ps5?
No sorry only for PC users.@@bynxtypebeat
This looks so clean, it looks better and suits your desk than a monitor IMO. I think something like a 48 inch oled panel would be perfect. That’s what I use and now I’m not ever changing my setup.
Shopping for a new tv and this review helped me a lot. Paired this tv with a new ps5 slim and can be happier. Great content.
Try 14 clicks right from the darkest settings in HDR calibration and let me know how it goes
I just bought an opened box excellent condition from BB for $473. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!
I upgraded my 2017 SONY LED 55 to this one and its a great surprise at low cost and wonderful picture quality.
Every time I see a review like this I immediately notice the brightness of non-OLED panels. I upgraded from a Vizio P55 to a LG G1 and while the overall picture is way better on the OLED, it’s noticeably dimmer
Yep! Love my C1, but our TCL R635 is much brighter!
just got this for my gaming setup. I watched a lot of reviews. and RTINGS rated it a 8.3, and the picture on this display is beautiful, the black levels are really solid, and the input lag I believe is 5.8 ms and COD feels super responsive, and I'm so surprised. It's an amazing TV for the price, bc I was going to get a Samsung Qled, and the C2 OLED which i took back bc I didn't want to have an expensive OLED just for gaming.
Didn’t want an expensive tv “just for gaming”?!? Why else would anyone buy such a TV 😅
@@alphaj9 to watch movies lmao. I’d rather play games on my 240hz 25 inch
Lol @@alphaj9
I'm using it as a monitor as well. I sit 6 feet away and it helps with eye strain and looks AMAZING! One of the least regretted purchases I have made.
I have this TV. I freaking love it. If you dont have the budget for an OLED then get this TV! I promise you you wont regret it. Contrast ratio is damn good, it has local dimming too and among the best I have seen on a TV this cheap. Its a no brainer, get this if you have a Series X or PS5.
How is it just as a TV as well for streaming movies
Does the TV display proper 4K 120 frames per second or does it have the resolution like they say?
@@TheSoberg TV has everything.
Which settings you recommend boss? Just got it & trying all the ps5 games on it got it running at 2160p 60Hz looks good and smooth but how do I get the 120hz working? Instead of 60hz
I would enable VRR on the PS5 and it should take advantage of the 120hz display capability as long as the game you're playing supports it.
Hey bro, how are the panning shots when watching movies and anime? Is the motion smooth? Does the TV provide a correct pulldown? Especially for anime is super important. Thanks.
I bought a 48" C1 just over 6 months ago as my PC monitor and I love it!!!
I use a large solid wood harvest dining room table as my desk so I have plenty of space for my set up.
I am so glad the C1 did not come in a 42" or I would have gone with that, but I love the size of a 48" screen as my PC monitor.
I even moved both my PS5 and Switch dock from the TV room so now all my gaming is in one location.
Furthermore, PC gaming on a 48" 4k HDR OLED screen has made my PC gaming experience like console gaming but without having to choose between fidelity/resolution mode vs performance.
Как же я завидую всем кто живет в развитых странах, вы можете покупать самую топовую технику за рекомендованную цену. В России даже до войны, был +30%. И даже TCL R635 никогда не был у нас в магазинах. Метрополия не равно колония(((
I still think my TCL R635 is a excellent TV even though it was their first version of a Miniled TV. I got a exceptionally clean panel. I think it's as good as the 646.and now the 655 2022 new model.
I’m still on the r625 lol
Yes 635 it’s a brilliant picture that most 2022 TV can’t compete with.
TCL R646 2021 is basically a Sony x900f 2018 with ALLM ,5% overall improvment and biggest improvement is
Native Contrast 5,089 : 1 vs 8,542 : 1 and Contrast with local dimming 5,725 : 1 vs 19,300 : 1 and this is due to mini led vs standard led tape. 65" is same price.
Hell even X900E FROM 2017 is good.
as a blink fan, i appreciate that guitar hanging on your wall, also nice review.
Thank you for the follow up. Been thinking about grabbing a 65 inch model of this & a c1.
c1 is much better man i have the 48inch with Bose tv speaker atm. i use it for pc gaming and sports and its absolutely amazing. I will also add a bose subwoofer soon. once it goes on sale i dont feel like spending 600$ on a sub alone rn
@@PickemMMA yup I'm still leaning more towards the c1. I'll be using it for gaming and sports mainly as well! I was going to wait until black Friday so I could get a good price for it
@@lifeonmars03 it’s listed for 1300 cad rn cause of labour day sale in Canada the 48inch one. I first got the Sony 55inch Bravia oled 4K tv and tried pc gaming but it wasn’t that good if a experience for gaming but movies was good so I returned it and got the Lg c1 and I’m glad I didn’t stay with the Sony. The Lg C1 has so many more hdmi ports on the tv which comes in handy if you have a lot of devices connected like gaming PC, iptv box, sound bar, and other devices like gaming consoles. I can’t wait to also pick up the Bose 500 module sub woofer which will improve sound a lot for me
I have been using the 65 inch version of this Tv for a year now and it has been great but I am now noticing that it has developed a few DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) spots that are noticeable on a few games but thankfully not in video content yet.
Hey a heads up if you turn the google assistant off in your google account settings the processing performance on this tv like doubles. That google assistant must be a total memory hog.
What TV picture mode/Settings were you using with the setup?
Great review! I'm curious what your gaming settings are for xbox
my guy , do u still use this tv ? any problems occurred?
@minimalisTech would you buy the extended warranty on this tv?
Although unintentional I appreciate the views of the tv that shows window glare. Someone who has a bright room I like to see shows real world application with a bright glaring window.
Also getting horrible inverse ghosting at 4k60hz with vrr enabled and flickering issues at 4k120hz with vrr...any of these same issues?
"Well, jokes on you mom this is a monitor" such a dad joke but had me laughing 😅
run videogames on 4kUHD on 120 hz? or only 4k with 60hz or 2k with 120 hz?
Does it?
@@CRJ08 yes, this TV run games, movies, Series and videos on 4k 120fps, But as long as the games, movies, etc., are of that quality, and the low qualities are also reproduced very clearly.
The TCL R646 and Hisense U7g are definitely the best budget tv's for the new consoles.
last year... this new its the TCL C835 (Probably the next TCL 6-series in 2022) My god the blacks improvement is day and night
Especialy if you do a ultimate calibration on it!! The hisense u8g too #Tasty 🤌
Where do you sell your tech after you're doing using it? I've seen you review a number of TV's and Mac's. I'm trying to upgrade my LG C1 to a G2 haha.
I have a question about ALLM with dobly vision on my old TV model would turn on and off game mode at random. Does it have that issue or any other issue like that. I have a series x for reference. Also is this the 2022 model from tcl?
this is a 2021 model TCL 2022 model is the r655
Do you have another suggeston instead of this tv? as I can't find this TV in UK at the moment.
Yup! I think the Hisense e7H is a good bet in UK
@@MinimalisTech thank you so much
Finally:D
I've been waiting for so long
Does this TV work well with a gaming laptop or gaming desktop???
Does the tcl have a harder time handling motion then the LG C2 you own?
Would love this in a smaller size
Love the videos, what chair are you using? Looks comfy
Autonomous ergo chair pro !
Did they fix all those glitches
Hi MinimalisTech, have you ever posted your input/picture settings for gaming on the TCL R646? I just picked one up recently for my main gaming TV (Xbox Series X mostly) and I'm curious how you set yours up as I try to dial in settings.
Thanks. If the MacBook pro display is extended to the TV, does it appear scale or it works well
How would you rate the R655 and the Roku OS vs the R646 and the Google OS?
Hi! does it auto sleep and auto wake like a computer monitor would?
My bedroom Samsung TV from 2016 just died and I need a new one. Nothing amazing but nothing crappy either. I was doing some comparisons and honestly it looks like the R646 for $600 (black friday deal) can't be beat. The next closest competitor is $8-900 easily and that would be the Sony X90J or X90K. Should I go for it? All the bugs have been fixed?
Honestly I use mine everyday still. People have mentioned bugs but I’ve personally never experienced any of them.
Either way most places have return policies that go till January with Black Friday and Xmas. I’d give it a go for sure!
@@MinimalisTech Brother thank you! I just placed the order with Best Buy. Gonna pick it up tomorrow and I'll report back to let you know how it goes. I'm excited!
@@MinimalisTech I just installed it and calibrated the picture settings. Took about 2 hours. I'm absolutely loving it. The picture quality is PHENOMENAL. Upgrading from a 2016 TV is a literal NIGHT AND DAY difference. 4k/120Hz on the PS5 and 1080p/60fps on Xfinity. Honestly the sound isn't too bad and I've experienced zero bugs so far. UI is crisp and fast. My only complaint is that there was some scuffs on the top edge of the TV but doesn't bother me too much. Doesn't look like a single pixel died... how long do I have to wait to be sure to beat the "pixel lottery"? Also, Best Buy is selling the 65" TCL 646 for only $600. That's the steal of a lifetime. I highly recommend it.
@@rasinshuriken Nope. I absolutely love it. I highly recommend it if you are on a budget. There's zero alternatives. According to RTings, it actually scores higher than the X90K. I can't speak on the reliability but I figure if it lasts for another 2-3 years, it's money well spent. Most TVs are designed to break after a few years anyways.
The Tom Delong guitar is sick
He's a straight up legend!
What camera do you used?
How did you remove the sticker in the middle of the tv ? Hard to peel off
The tcl r655 looks sweet! Roku OS, 2 HDMI 2.1 Ports up to 144hz. Mini led QLED. 55 inch retails for 699.
I saw! Looking forward to checking that one out
65 inch r646 is 800 dollars
Has anyone bought the 75 or the 85 inch option?
Sadly there's no Google tv version
Price of the tv please ? Ur link didn't open
what racing game are you playing?
Would you say it’s better than the tcl 50S555??
When you click the link you put there and it goes on the tv you are reviewing it says it’s 60hz on the details
This is a mini led and QLED. TCL started mini leds back with the 635 series two years ago
Nice man I got hola limited edition Xbox series X and made that my last system wait along time for my dream system and my 2nd one ⚙️ gears war limited edition Xbox X
I got this same TV right here and it's telling me that it doesn't have vrr?
what do you think of the tcl c641 model?
What settings do you use on the r646 when gaming?
Hi mate, what is your keyboard. ? please
Hi nice video I have been looking on curry’s website it says this tv is 60hz not 120hz? Is there some ports which happen to suport more please let me know I’m looking to buy a new tv for my ps5
Yo!
Yeah the Google version R646 is 120hz with HDMI 2.1, there's the Roku version R645 that's only 60hz, not sure which one you're seeing on the website,
Good luck!
Is this better than the Vizio MQ6 QLED??
I have a 42in TCL and love it
What is better the 65 inch or 55 inch
Hello. Can I ask your opinion if it is a good upgrade to go from a TCL 65R625 to a 65R646? Is the difference enough to warrant an upgrade? Thank you
@yunusguitarist468 thank-you
I love it! Great idea
Best tv I've ever had.
This is the review I needed🤝🏽🤝🏽
Hey man I have tcl series 6 and I can only get 120hz at 1080 p please help me what am I doing wrong
One of two things.
Your cable is not hdmi 2.1.
Or you got the r645 which doesn’t do 120hz but is still a “6 series”
The R646 is the 120hz model.
Has the situation with Google Tv bugs and buggy UX experience improved now, or do you still see occasional app crashes and laggy OS?
I’ve heard a lot about this but I still haven’t encountered it. I figured by now I’d have some issue but so far it’s been a clean experience. Lol perhaps I’m lucky
@@MinimalisTech and one final question, does this one support Apple Airplay? The spec sheet doesn’t say yes, but one review seems to mention it.
Unfortunately it does not support airplay, gave it out with the google suit, you can try chromecast
Looks great! The price is reasonable. Good quality TV. It might too big for desktop build. But for all its glory 💖💖, going to buy 💗🙏🙏💗.
which game was the one with a supra?
Can you plz show us ur settings so I can copy n paste I bought this tv
Your camera is so good. Its like screen recording the PS5 😂
so funny 😐
Can you happen to get the measurement for the gap between the Google home speaker and your desk? I wanna put a soundbar under the tv in between the legs but I wanna know if the Google home speaker will get in the way
Can you buy this in the uk?
VRR won't double frame rate. A 60 fps game is still 60 fps with VRR enabled. All VRR does is sync your TV with the VRR threshold. Eliminating tearing and judder. Ie smoother game play. VRR is not the same as fps boost or TV motion settings (which can double frames at a cost to picture quality..
I came here to say this. I feel like more people will have to educate themselves on what VRR actually does this generation. It is new for most console gamers.
@@Timeforceletsgo Yep, it's basically like Freesync or Gsync, basically eliminating the need for Vsync and that's it.
Where is the VRR setting even at
I'm running this same T.V. on an RTX3080, FE. The screen goes black randomly, and comes back on, like the card is sending updated outputs to the T.V. It's super annoying, and I haven't found a fix yet. The T.V. works great with my PS4, no issues there!
Can someone pleas answer this does this tv look better than the Hisense u6h
Great stuff bud! I just liked and subbed my man.👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾
i hit the like button because i dont want the red ring of death on my ps5. dont hurt me bro you're the man 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey I would like to get the settings you have on the tv i actually bought the tv from your link 😭😂 I just got it and I really want to play the ps5 with the best settings because seeing your from here looks amazing please and thank you
Any. Links to desk you have?
This or the LG QNED80?
I love your review..i have the 2021 R635 im looking to buy the R646 as i own a series X✌️
I have the R635 as well and that tv is still INCREDIBLE. Although it only does 1440p/120hz....that's totally fine. Tv is still king. I'll upgrade when this one breaks :)
Have you noticed any inverse ghosting, specifically when VRR is enabled?
Where is the VRR setting at
@theonewhoknocks678 the TV doesn't have VRR settings, it's all up to whatever device you have connected.
Out of curiosity, when in game mode what do you have your picture/color/motion settings as? Default settings or tinkered with?
Getting this TV this weekend!
Have you had any issues with the tv ?
@@lester1078 I have. My PS5 picture is constantly going from brighter to darker. Despite not changing the settings. I don't know if it's the PS5 HDR hating this tv, VRR, 120hz or what. No one has an answer.
TCL’s TV’s are really budget friendly, no doubts at all, however based on my own experience they are not build to last, they have a life cycle on average of 3 years. I personally would never purchase a TCL again, when it comes to TV’s I believe your best options are and will always be LG, Samsung and Sony.
Where tf is the VRR setting, it is not in the input/ channel setting
I heard that TCL now supports all HDR standards, including HDR10+, is that true?
It seems to be so
@@JackDaniels-ex9mf That’s pretty cool. You hat would make TCL the only TV manufacturer in the US to support all HDR standards. (The only others I have found are Panasonic and Philips, which don’t sell their TVs in the US).
Its at least all the major ones but dolby vision can be weird in games
@@JackDaniels-ex9mf I haven’t had any issue with Dolby Vision in games on my LG G1 OLED, might want to turn off Xbox “Auto HDR” feature which might cause some issues.
Nice set up bro
Thank you!
I heard there tvs don't last long
Thx for the update haha I really enjoyed part one of this video. One thing I have to say about the this tv is that it looks a bit cloudy for some reason especially when I’m playing games is it just me or do I need to change something in the settings?🤔
Turn the sharpness up for 4k games. Turn to 20 and see how it looks.
Turn the gamma to 2.4
When I read cloudy I took it as blurry. If you mean the contrast doesn't look right that is because most reviews do not have the proper contrast setting defined. They tell you to set local contrast to low and say nothing about dynamic contrast.
The dynamic contrast is what will get you that deep contrast level. You wont need to turn your gamma higher. Simply switch dynamic contrast to low and local contrast to low and you'll have deep inky blacks without loss of shadow detail.
@@frankrobbins8508 the dynamic contrast is fine on movies and tv , but I find it to crush black details way too much in games
@@Revdellic if your gamma is up it will, or if your black level is lower than 50 it will.
Set DC to low, local contrast to low, gamma at 2.2, black level 50 and you shouldn't have very much black crush I can see all bars in the white and black flash tests with these settings.
Does this tv have multiview ?
Do you know yet?
Would you be able to compare the Hisense 55" U8H?
I'd love to! just gotta find one, they're actually out of stock the places I've looked. Hoping to review one asap
I just bought the 75 inch version brand new for only 1169 at best buy
How do you like it I’m thinking going with the 75 or 85 for gaming on my Xbox series X
what name is this tv on asia ? like R655 is C835
825 I think
First thing I noticed about this TV is that hdmi 2.1cables are not easily inserted in the ports anyone else have this issue? Worried I'm going to break my hdmi ports
Just picked up a 65 inch model for $599!
@@rasinshuriken I still love it! Works great and I typically use it every day, no complaints thus far!
@@Elijahcgts do you have any bugs? Or those people commented on launch are fixed?
@@CRJ08 I hadn't had any issues! I really enjoy using it and especially at the price I was able to get it! Definitely was a great purchase. Blacks and colors are really great.
Is it still holding up?
@@Dismayy Yep! Use it for several hours every day and have yet to experience an issue with it.
Does your tv bloom with white text
Obviously its an lcd not self emitting like oled
Tcl 646 owner here. Bloom is pretty well controlled, like the other guy said its not like its an oled but its also much brighter and and the blacks stay pretty darn black even in varying light conditions and most bright things
@Smurf Mafia I seen high end Samsung models and they have a big difference between them and oled although they are much better then my non local dimming unit by a lot so definitely local dimming is awesome
@Smurf Mafia the lighting in the room is definitely the place for qleds as more light less noticed blooming and generally oleds lack in brightness department
The thing is the two technologies are mode for different light conditions
Little ambientlighting (OLED )
Windows open or direct lights (Qleds)
Btw im impressed myself how far qleds have become maybe it lacks OLED response rates / contrast
But every year they find a way to tweak the panels further and improve contrast
Although it's a known fact LCD is an inferior technology as even Samsung is migrating to self emissive technologies and sold their LCD plant and patents to TCL ruclips.net/video/MKEx6clge-Q/видео.html
what about using this with a 3080 powered pc
what about it
