- I've spent a lot of time gaming and consuming content on these two popular TV's. One's a budget option, the other is more than double.
Which do you think is best, and is it worth paying more?

You're right about the TCL R646 not being available in every region
But I found this model in Germany which seems to be identical with the model you showed
TCL 55C825
Do you think it has all the features r646 has to offer ? Mainly I want to know if the response times are similar.
Thanks for the great video.
Is that oled display?
@@jojittheexplorer9151 No, Both are Mini Led
Does the tcl R646 support VRR? It was kinda confusing in the video if both or only the C2 does. Also you are so right on these tvs can get used daily for 14hrs a day. Between the kids/wife/myself I wonder what the lifespan of the OLED actually are.
What’s better the r646 or the tcl 5 series
i own both of these TV’s. the TCL R6 is 55” and the LG C2 is 42”. the TCL i use as a console TV as it’s bigger and i don’t need accurate colors for gaming. the LG i use on my desk as a computer monitor as the color accuracy is insanity and i do a lot of media work. i love both TV’s and both are a solid choice.
Got the LG C2 48 inch just yesterday no regrets. Didn't wanna get the cheaper tcl and end up wanting more. Lg C2 is the end game display for me... once you go oled no going back...
How has it been holding up for you. Is 48 big enough?
I got me a 55in C2.
I wasn't quite satisfied with my previous TV. And I wanted a display that could do it all.
OLED looks absolutely stunning. Especially in a dim room where the true black shines.
Contrast is perfect. Color is vivid. Response time is amazing.
And it gets plenty bright, bright enough to make me squint in a dim room when using HDR. And oh my, does HDR look AMAZING on it!
And it is outstanding in a dark room. Zero hazy lifted black levels. It looks beautiful at all times.
And it's capable of anything I could want. 4K 120hertz with VRR and Dolby Vision all at once. It truly is a king of kings when it comes to displays.
I am completely and utterly satisfied. Now I won't be able to leave OLED.
Not sure what you mean by end game. The tv won’t last forever. Many will die after around 10 years of usage, some less. New panels come out too and get cheaper. I say no one should assume any tv they buy is an “end game” model, but instead buy for the greatest value / performance for the next 5-10 years of usage. If the tv is too expensive, you will be more reluctant to upgrade down the line as well.
I bought the 48 inch lg c3 yesterday... Next to my tcl r646 (55 inch) it was the same picture, except for the blacks which I can tweak on the tcl. I took the c3 back because why go smaller when it's nearly the same picture??
@@Novemberz_Own78but is it really the same picture?
Great review, my TCL will be arriving in 8 hours and I'm excited. Also nice to see more Canadian based reviewers 👍🏼
How has your experience been so far?
Did you get your TCL? How's it been thus far?
Just got my TCL and I cannot be happier. I have always only owned budget HDR displays but still enjoyed them. Decided to be a bit more spendy this time and get the 65 inch version for 1k from best buy and I really am stunned to see hoe good it looks. Waiting to get my 2.1 cable so I can enjoy resident evil 8 with HDR and high fps.
Should've got the 75 inch for only 300 bucks more. I just bought the Q90T 75 inch for 1800 makes me wonder if I should've saved 500 clams.🤔
You could be happier....if you had an OLED...lol
The 2.1 is for 120 fps at 4k, correct? To my knowledge you need to have a 3000 series card in order to play at 4k 120
It you have a PS5 or Xbox Series then it comes with the HDMI 2.1 cable
I don’t think resident evil 8 goes above 60 fps
I bought the 42 C2 although costs too much I needed it because it's the smallest 4k OLED with the best interior like processor etc and mainly because it super light weight and super thin, the only TV I've waited for my semi truck sleeper area. I've had TCL over 6 years and they are solid good quality for small price BUT after watching an LG OLED there's no other tv Samsung Sony etc that I was satisfied with. Only the LG OLED for me is like magic.
How about the Sony a80k? It seems like that has better image and color especially in horror movies.. you see less pixels and seems more realistic
@@Itsdjsigi getting my c2 on the 10th. Highly doubt I'm going to be seeing pixels watching horror movies, but we'll see! I watch a lot of horror.
Reason why I got it to! it ost $900 for me at best buy for the same C2 (42 inch) model you mentioned at which i use $365 of Store credit of Best Buy to get that tv.
Picked up the 65-inch TLC 646 for $600, I cannot tell you what an amazing TV and bargain that is...really appreciate the comparison, really wanted to get the LG after coming from a plasma TV, so glad now that I didn't spend all that extra money!
Where did you get it for 600? I see it for 700
@@rockybalboa2735 it was a black friday deal
I just got one for 600 as well, picture quality is awesome and I'm loving it.
Came here to say the same thing , got my tcl Black Friday week , I've been contemplating switching over the lg C2. What I was already thinking got confirmed in this video. The C2 is technically a better tv but dollar for dollar the specs and the price point of the tcl series 6 can't be beat.
So I actually just bought a log oled c2 and I was coming from a tlc 6 series from 2020. I wanted the oled for perfect contrast and no black crush which it’s great at, but I mainly wanted full4k/120hz for ps5/series x. My tlc still could only do 1440p/120hz but no hdr sadly on Xbox. Honestly as perfect as contrast is I still perfer tlc and the blacks are damn close, it didn’t bloom some on subtitles and had some black crush but for the 600/700 dollar difference I am thinking of returning for a 4K/120hz new 6 series. Heard theirs even less crush and blooming than the 2020 model I had. The hdr pop on tlc was of the chain. Oled still pops but the tlc like hurt my eyes at times. Neither is a bad choice, it’s kinda which you want more, brighter hdr pop, or perfect black levels no crush. Both have good contrast but oled obviously comes on top but not by much. Greatest time to be in hifi/home theatre/TVs/gaming. It’s crazy how good of audio set up I have now would of cost like 5 grand or more for all my speakers instead of about 2k for everything
Nice video, you made some good points. Reference the price and size comparison, the TCL 646 is a 2021 model and the C2 is a 2022 model, I think it would be better to compare the the 646 to the C1 (2021) model. They are much closer in price, for the 55 inch model.
There is no beating OLED picture quality currently. Though top tier LEDs are getting very close.
OLEDs like the C2 are the supreme TV in almost all areas. Lowest input lag, fastest response time, best picture quality, and a large number of features and capabilities.
But with how expensive OLEDs are, it's understandable to go for an alternative.
However, if you wait until the time of year when TVs are at their lowest prices, like November and Black Friday, the OLEDs are more tempting.
Best time to get a TV is in November.
I have the TCL R635 Miniled TV and it's one of my favorite TV's. It's gotten better over the last year or so with updates. The Roku OS is always updated regularly.
We love our 65R635!
@@BMETFerg I think that for a budget TV it sure checks a lot of the boxes. No TV is perfect but the R635 is almost perfect for what you pay for it. I also have the R625 non Miniled and there is a noticeable difference in the two TV's. I think anyone would be satisfied with the TCL R635.
@@michaelwyckoff7593 I have the r625 is it that much of a difference
Doesn't the R635 not support HDMI 2.1/120hz at 4k? That would be a deal breaker for me personally
Just got the R646 for 650 on sale so I'm feeling like a bandit right now, absolutely loving this thing
how is for dark 4k movies like batman
Dark room = OLED tv. Keep brightness down to help prevent burn in.
Bright room = LED/LCD tv. The brighter display helps keeps the sun's glare down with no worries of burn in.
TCL gets a lot of hate but I’m gonna get the r646 55 inch for 4K 120hz for gaming on the ps5 and series x specifically. On sale for $399! I’ve had my tcl series 4 4K for years and it’s been very reliable . Not the best but good for entry level 4K gaming. I was considering the lg but I’m not a hardcore gamer. I play occasionally
I bought the TCL 55R646 a little over a year ago. No regrets! Software updates have made it look even better, and it works great as a massive computer monitor and TV!
Just quick information for viewers, corresponding version of MiniLED in EU is C835, no other MiniLED version C735 is FALD.
But in EU it's only 2/3 of the price of C2 and only 20% cheaper than recently re-released C1 as CS series for 2022 with C2 chip.
The price difference would be easily made up by Power Draw difference between OLED vs Mini-LED over 3-5 years.
So the question is the usage case, if you get lot of light coming in the room and you would use the TV during day time, then MiniLED (be it C835, C935, Samsung or Sony).
All other use case scenarios and the one above, if you can pull the curtains too, then C2 or CS series.
Thanks for the great info bro. I live in the Netherlands and i bought. Tcl 55c831 for 869 euro but it's making a weird noice like a loading PC sound. So now i bought the LG 55c2 for 1150. We will see if it wil look better or not. Thank again

Went with the TCL R646 55 inch , will use more with my PC, thanks for making it easy for me.
For a bit added cost than the tcl, it may be better getting an lg c1 while it’s still available at a huge discount
Best thought
The lg c1 is like 600 dollars more expensive than the r646 in Canada right now.

@@DookieOnDaFloor. I got mine on Amazon. It was for the 4th of July sale and that price continued until Amazon prime day which was like the 12-13th if I’m not mistaken. I know at that point people were able to get at 796 but had to wait until September for delivery. I think everyone is mostly sold out of C1 48inch units now :(
Im picking 75 inch R646: 1999.99$ TCK over 65 Inch QD OLED : 3299.99$ ( bigger size and 1.2k cheaper)
Just bought the 77inch LG C2 for $2499 this TV is amazing the smoothness and quality I see in gaming is major improvement and I had the LG 65 inch CX which I never had burn in problems with
I wanted the C2 but was able to get the B2 65” for $1099 since on a budget and still love the oled
I was exactly deciding between these 2 models, budger or high end. In the end decided the budget 646 gives enough for the pricepoint, more so when upgrading from an old 720 LCD.
I got a C3 the other day after months of researching between mini led and oled. I can 100% say anyone doing this is likely overthinking it (like i was) but now i can definitely vouch for oled. It looks fucking incredible. Also the entire LG experience is awesome.
Great video very well explained on both TVs
I've been a gamer since the commodore 64 and my advice is, definitely upgrade to a LG C2 if ypu can.
I had a pretty good samsung before, looked decent, good ms rating but honestly, when I got my C2, gaming changed for the better.
Looks how I always wanted it to look , 1 ms response time, and also your be really happy watching movies/RUclips on it.
Best thing to happen to gaming since SSD.
I also have tried gaming routers, and recently spent like £250 on a asus router and a couple others that didn't make any difference what so ever over the smart hub 2 ( even though it dont have QOS)
To have a ps5 and not have a very good TV is a bottleneck to any gamers happiness.
I absolutely love my C2, wouldn't change it for anything right now ( anything that I could afford that is 😁)
You know what man I'm getting the U8H was gonna get U6H save money u know kids and all. But darn it we gamers need the best we can get. Amen.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the TCL use the same Mediatek SoC that's been causing problems to all upper-midrange 2021 TVs such as displaying half of vertical refresh arte when using 4k/120hz and VRR?
Great video bro. Keep grinding and you’ll have a huge channel.
Hi. Can you please check the exact distanse of 2 stands for lg42? Some says it's 720mm, some it's 710mm. Mayby because of their thickness...So can you tell the distance between middles of stands? I believe it should be 715mm or something. Thanks in advance!
I have big mirrors attached to my sliding closet around 6 feet away from my TV. is it better to get oled or lcd? worried that the light from the mitror ruin the experience with the oled
Do you now the Numbers in europe for the Tcl is it the same as c935 or c835..?
Can you show your tv settings on the tcl r646? And how did you get you’re 120hz I tried everything but have no luck on getting it to 120hz please help!!!
Great review, thank you for sharing.
We can get the LG C2 in 48" for £999 currently in the UK which is about $1050, do you think it's worth the money?
We can't get that TCL here in the UK 😵💫
I wonder though, if money were not an issue, would you pick the C2 over the TCL. Either way, happy to use your link when I'm ready to make my purchase. I'm actually torn between the C2 and the Sony X90 Series.
If money wasn't an issue we'd all have IMAX theaters lol.
Great video, I personally have a Hisense U6GR and works great black uniformity and vibrant colors. I do like the TCL specs versus the LG. Another thing, BoBs Furniture has a great deal on that white chester/stand you got. I bought two brown dressers that my 55" sit in my room. Did you calibrate both tv"s when setting up?
TCL is good but there is nowhere to come close to Oled picture quality. Pretty sure when you used OLED, no way to come back down to LCD.
Hi. TCL C835 mini LED or LG OLED C21 for PC FPS Gaming ? (dark room) ...Thx
My preference is OLED for dark room. Huge benefit to mini LED is playing in super bright conditions
OLED will take the cakes hands down in a dark room. Specifically for the blacks and vibrancy.
@@MinimalisTech Great. Thanks for Your reply :)
Great video!!
Was excited to pick one of these up. However, my 75r646 doesn't want to display any Amazon prime content in hdr. It's fine through my roku but the native app has poor resolution. Disney + is fine and I'm not sure Crave tv has any hdr content. any thoughts on resolving this?
With the July update, the TCL is getting close to perfect especially since I got the 65” on sale for $700
Hello what is your opinion about TCL 55R635?
Video processing is much better on the LG which becomes quite apparent when watching cable content and the TCL can’t even properly show 480p content.
Light control is not close and that’s even true with higher end LCD televisions. This is where most folks pushing a LCD pull the wool over your eyes with their OLED like blacks and almost no blooming in real content comments.
Yes high APL scenes look fantastic on the TCL but OLED turns the table with low APL content where most content resides with well defined specular highlights and in some cases are even brighter than on a LCD.
Burn in is likely not going to be an issue with most viewing habits with 2018 and later models and QC on TLC televisions are not good. The 6 series I tried had pretty noticeable DSE.
If I’m coming across as strong it’s because I’m one who has purchased multiple LCD televisions to replace my OLED but end up returning the LCD.
The TCL has a great price and a better comparison would be against much more expensive LCD televisions from Sony and Samsung but personally I would still pass on the TCL due to its motion and upscaling weaknesses. Obviously the 2022 models will come down in price later in a year so I would look at the 2021 models from the more established brands with comparisons to the 6 series.
Interesting you mention burn in is not likely on 2018 and later models....we have a 2017 LG B7 and it has horrible burn in, especially on red, orange, yellow screens. I feel very conflicted about buying another OLED after our experience with our B7 OLED. I'm in the market for a new TV, but still not sure which way to go.
@@thecockflock I don’t know when lg started doing it but they now have several anti burn in features and and an app in newer models. It all runs automatically in the background. You can also run the app manually if you think something is wrong. There’s a lot of burn in tests with cx and c1. I can understand your apprehension given your experience but a lot has changed.
@Veezo Uptown I've only had one TV die on me in my lifetime and it was a TCL right after the warranty ended.
Great review, I’ve been thinking about upgrading from the cx to c2 but the cx is still going strong lol

It’s one of those things that once you get used to OLED it’s hard to go back to. LCD/LED TV. You do notice the difference immediately. I’ve owned OLEDs since 2016 and until something better comes along I won’t be switching anytime soon.
100%. I have an OLED and when I see my parent's TV which is a QLED, the difference is immediately noticeable. You mentioned until something better comes along - that would be the QD-OLED. Every reviewer on RUclips says it's leagues ahead of anything else on the market.
@@cun7us just a bit pricey at the moment lol
@@cun7us true, but I just spent too much money on two OLEDs the last year. So I’m probably waiting for micro-LED at this point which is a couple years away.
@@BruceRichwineJr it's looking like microLED might not happen. The cost to produce them is too high and will be way above most people's budget.
@@cun7us true, but there is other technologies in the pipeline. So I’ll be waiting until then.
Great review. Tired of all these reviewers shilling the c2 with no consideration for the price. Most people won't hand over 1 month rent/mortgage for a TV. Can you check if the tcl has vrr flicker on ps5?
C1 is where it’s at price-wise right now. C2 updates aren’t worth several hundred more for same size TV
I bought the LG C1 OLED last year and it's easily one of the best purchases I've made. Don't think I could ever go back to LED. However, as I mentioned one of your previous videos, anybody looking to buy one should wait until later in the year when the price drops, as they're known to drop at least £500 ($600).
I’ve had the 55” c1 for about 8 months now and love the tv, got it for 1300usd. I recently got the 65” tcl r646 for 700usd on a price-match deal during amazon prime day. The value is amazing for the size and quality! The TCL is a very well rounded TV, and almost half the price of my LG C1.
Easily one of the purchase ah yes
Bout to get the tcl r646 as it is only $399 now. I know its considered older, but me upgrading to 120hz for gaming will be nice. Also, can’t beat that price!
Damn right were very blessed to have such good tv's these days with great prices! Back in 2006 I bought a 40" flat screen non 4k for $2,600 😫
This really needs to be done on a case by case basis. For instance in my house we have a lot of natural light in the living room. This will negatively affect a less bright oled compared to the much brighter led. Further, if I'm not pitting these two against each other side by side I really wouldn't notice. Unless you're a real tv snob the tcl or a hisense would be more than enough tv.
I upgraded my Hisense U6G to a Sony A80J. And the Sony is undeniably better and the compatibility with the Ps5 is fantastic, but I can’t help but feel like I wasted my money considering the Sony was 3x the price.
The HDR tech demos are what sold me and they are MIND BLOWING. I didn’t know what real HDR looked like before OLED because of edge lit crap displays. But in real content: there’s not much HDR streaming content available that interests me, most HDR movies aren’t mastered that well anyways, and the majority of my time using it is via RUclips or on the ps5. Unfortunately the ps5 doesn’t support HDR 10+, and none of the games I play are HGIG compliant. So the experience is lackluster. Nevermind the serious lack of 120hz use cases.
My much brighter U6G looked way better during the day with my curtains opened. I often find myself watching RUclips HDR videos just to get that experience again that I wish my games would give me.
If I were buying again, I’d probably get something comparable to the TCL 6 series or Hisense U7.
Hi Which one do you suggest me for ps5?is Philips 706 a good one?
At 2:04 the LG C2 has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, not 2, 2:20 it shows all 4 4k@120HZ
Which is better the TCL646 with Google interface or the Roku interface. Is there a difference as far as picture quality between the two?
The Google interface is awesome. But I personally like Roku a little more. Much more simple design. I have both in my house. I'd rate 8.5/10 for Google and 9/10 for Roku. It's just neater/nicer, better organized, faster loading etc.
Can I get a link to buy the hdmi 2.0 splitter you showed.
Great review!
Thank you 🙌🏼
its stupid, but unfortunately my entire purchasing decision hinges on the fact that the LG C2 natively supports gsync! im using a TCL r635 and the gsync doesnt seem to be working correctly. not only this, but i need 3 2.1 ports for PC, and both consoles. i love TCL and it breaks my heart, but i may have to go to LG this time around
What are the names of the games he is playing?
I will stick with my LG C1 with my Bose soundbar 600 and bass module 500 it’s perfect setup for anything I watch on it. I can’t wait to add the Bose surround speakers soon to complete my setup fully
If a non-gamer would you consider the TCL a slam dunk? Only stream and watch sports. 55" is the max size for placement. Thanks.
For value the TCL is hard to beat.
If you’re near windows at all the mini-led would be super bright at least while watching sports.
OLED TVs might be crappier for reflections. For sports that would piss me off
Cheers
@@MinimalisTech Thank you. Budget is not an issue but why spend more if you don't have to. I'm not the audio or video geek that can tell small differences. This seems like a good choice. Use Google too so that model seems the better choice.
Isn’t the R646 basically the same as the R635 from 2020? Only difference being it’s a Google set, as opposed to Roku?
The Roku R635 doesn’t support hdmi 2.1. So it’ll only do 4K 60hz. Where as the R646 google will have HDMI 2.1 with full VRR support

I've had my R646 replaced once due to screen discoring to green over a week. Now the new panel is discoloring to green 2 months later. I just bought the B2 because I'm tired of bad panels.
Do you like the B2? Bright enough?
On the 55" TCL do you get the option to put the feet in 2 different positions?
No unfortunately Not :(.
There are legs you can get that hook to the wall mount vesa holes though for people who need legs closer together
@@MinimalisTech thanks for the quick response
Love this. Honesty matters
Anyone have any problem with the C2 getting burn in while playing games? Thanks.
I got the TCL 55" c835 here in Australia (not sure what model name is for US as dont think its out there yet?) for $1380 aud / $940 usd. Has some upgrades over the r646 (we got the c825 here which is very similar) like more dimming zones and 144hz for hdmi1 via PC (which is what I use it for) and its fantastic so far =)
Just awaiting for my DP to hdmi cable to arrive, so i can do 120+hz at 4k with my 2080ti ^_^
As I know from many pp have owned this type of TV C835 and they say it's not working with 144hz 4k and it's only can show 60hz4k
I mean for pc owners
@@thelastbanana0678 I use 4k 120hz just fine with my pc, dont really care about having an extra 24hz so I just use that. Works fine :) The people who dont have it working might not have the right cable or an older gpu. For example I had to buy a displayport to hdmi cable that does hdmi 2.1 with my 2080ti.
@@HexedHavocif it's work fine that's sound good .!!
I'm look to buy one of these TV fro my pc with 3060 rtx ..but really wonder if it's better then Samsung qn90 ?
Wait until the TV is on sale around 6 months after launch!!! Do not buy an OLED at full launch price!
I got me a 55in C2 for $1300 recently. November is the best time to shop.
Just checked for the TCL 55R646 on Amazon, price dropped down to $899 CAD. I'll just wait for black Friday, if the price stays same, I'll just order one
Great comparison.
It should basically come down to "LCD (mini led) vs OLED" and it will not be a question if you can find previous gen units for cheaper. OLED is good enough in day and phenomenal in night, miniLCD even the best of bunch does not comes close to OLED in dark.
PS: Only two 2.1 HDMI ports are most likely due to use of MediaTek chip.
And if you use one of the ports for eARC then you’re left with just one. I guess the guy will be using the audio from the TV.
No its Just as good. Clearly you havent seen them side by side in person, its literally indistinguishable from each other, youd have to be real close to see that one is oled and one is neoqled
@@Gala23Milk What's clear is you don't realize the absurdity of your comment.
@@johnb4905 😂😂😂😂 Was that meant to be funny
@@Gala23Milk Good for you if you perceive it that way. I can definitively see the local dimming if a darker environment. I have got both OLED and newqled display at my place.
I love my LG C2 55 no regrets!
It's top notch!
cheers
These TVs are great but what *I* do is, I buy a mid-level TV that makes me happy and I wait for technology to advance SO MUCH that high end features today will be 1/2 price in the next year or 2. Then I buy an upgrade for cheap.
I paid $500 for my TV and it is far superior to the top of the line TV from 5 years ago. It would've cost me over $2,000 5 years ago.
Yea, but you gotta wait many years lol d
A brand new $500 tv today doesn't even come close to something like a LG C7 or Sony A1E in terms of picture quality.
What dope video✊🏿🤛🏽 what s the 8:46 game?
The game is called "It Takes Two". Such a good online or local cooperative game
I appreciate this vid imma get the tclr646
Can I buy the r646 75 inch in the uk???
The TCL can do g sync, it’s just not certified for g sync so performance might not be optimal
I can’t seem to find this TV in the UK 😩
If I could I would have gotten the tcl r646 even with it's issues but tcl doesn't sell any tvs at costco which sucks. I also did not want to pay extra money for an additional warranty since it was very expensive at best buy and it would have cost me well over $1000 CAD including the tv. I did have the option of getting the u7g but I didn't want to take a risk and buy it after everything I have read online about that tv,it's better brother the u8g and hisense tv's in general. I bought a 55 inch sony x85j I found on clearance for $799.99. My next tv upgrade might be a high end sony or another brand since I will likely won't be forced to replace a broken tv unlike this time and I can actually get a tv with great hdr next time.
Thinking about buying an OLED but I am hesitating because of the low brightness and screen reflection. I currently have a Samsung QN95a which is super bright and could be a bit dimmer IMO.
I feel you! Honestly I was worried about that too, for the most part my C2 OLED definitely gets bright enough. I can't help but prefer the way it looks over my suuuuper bright TCL R646 which is a mini-LED.
I'd say give any OLED a go, most places like Best Buy have a long return period right now anyways with the holidays, so could be worth trying and returning if it doesn't turn out as expected.
Thanks for watching!
