I was the TinyCore guy. 🤪 Stock FLWM is sort of infamous for having the window titlebars along the left side of each window. My first contribution to the TinyCore Linux code was a "Topside" mod to put the titlebar on top of each window (where God intended). FLWM, as built in TinyCore, is sort of ugly by modern standards however because the font rendering does not use anti-aliasing, so unless your screen resolution is quite high and you switch to large fonts, you will have jaggies like it's the early 90s. However, there is an anti-aliasing package, at least there was in the past (around 2011-2012) when I was using TC a lot. I also built and contributed a few small GUI apps that may be still in the TC package repo.
As far as Distrowatch goes, I used to follow it quite closely. I still at least skim the weekly news posting to check out the Linux or other alt OS review, see if the tips & tricks article is interesting, and browse the reader comments. So many of the Linux reviews in the past two years utterly fail to install/boot correctly or have some other significant quality flaw. I think it's a symptom of too much and still-growing complexity

Sorry that I completely forgot your username at that moment. Thanks for sharing about what you contributed to Tiny Core Linux. It sounds like it was an interesting time to be a developer on these project. I would like to do a livestream with someone sometime in the near future. Would you be interested in talking about your work on Tiny Core Linux on a livestream? Thanks.
Thanks for sharing too what you've thought about DistroWatch over the years. I don't know why I've never used it to find out more niche info on Linux distros etc...

I like to pick a distro and fire up a vm just to try them out and see features I like or dislike, distrowatch gives me a easy place to take a look what's out there. Great video James, thumbs up with a like!

Thanks shawn. Has there been any distros that you have tried and were impressed by?

@JamesChampionLinux Fedora, ParrotOS, Kali, Linux Mint, Manjaro, and Ubuntu are a few I have enjoyed. Very vanilla I know ;)

I like looking at some of the interesting distro's on DW. I run a virtual server and run them there to get a look at some interesting ones. You can run them through their paces and see how they work. When done simply move on to the next one. Enjoy seeing how people are putting their touches on Linux. A lot of really good distributions out there.
I use Mint as my daily driver but there are other fantastic offerings out there to suit nearly everyone.

Nice one on testing some of these distros on a virtual server. Have there been any that have stood out to you?

-Ubuntu flavors are all worthy and well supported ones that have been around a long time. Ubuntu has spawned a lot of easy to use and capable distros.
-Manjaro is a nice Arch based Distro.
-Debian is pretty clean and fast. I used to use that in our data centers years ago.
-POP_OS is a new built from scratch one that is going to be nice when finished. The desktop is clean and feature rich
-Fedora is a well put together one but I have been disappointed with Red Hat over the years after being bought by IBM.
-Zorin is pretty but they charge for the complete version, lite version is free
-Rocky is a great database OS and is a Red Hat binary clone managed Not by Red Hat.
-KDE Neon and Plasma are both REALLY nice.
-Mint is what I have used daily for years because it works right from the install and is feature rich. The Cinnamon Desktop is my favorite just because of the features built in and how easy it is for me to install on someone's hardware and they have such a short learning curve to use it.
+The Linux arena is full of this and a lot more that are worthy to be on anyone's list. These are just the ones I was really impressed with. I have probably been through 30 or more on Virtual and there are very nice ones I have not listed that could be daily drivers. The search to find one you will fall in love with is half the fun. It can be daunting for some but for nerds like me it is like playing in the toy store.
There is a small website that has a collection of Linux learning videos that can give you a jump start on working with Linux over on another site called rumble titled LinuxDaily that is a great resource to get trained up.

I've never really liked it, but ironically, I might start looking at it a bit more.
