  • I have an old Colt SAA needed a new bolt/sear spring. It's a common problem in the old Colt and Colt Clones. Fortunately, it's and easy fix. I intend to use the gun in cowboy action shooting on occasion.

@ 6:22 the first time the gun was cocked at appeared the sear didn't catch and the hammer drop without pulling the trigger. Is this a common problem with a colt SSA

No, this is not a common problem. I watched it in slow motion and the only idea I could come up with was that I put the new part in without lubricant and, being new, may have had some burrs on the spring leg where it presses against the trigger. This may have caused the trigger to be stuck in the "pulled" position. Then after cycling, it worked normally.

Anybody know if Wolff's lower power bolt springs have this kind of issue? They're weaker in power to make the trigger lighter, but something tells me that will cause the cylinder stop bolt to be loose.

I have Wolff springs in a number of my Uberti SA revolvers and have no failures or problems.

@@owlcreekraiders1329 Alright that's good cause I ordered a bolt spring and mainspring from them last night because I noticed in mine that when fully cocked or even when the hammer is resting, the cylinder can still rotate counter-clockwise. Which needless to say shouldn't be happening. Fairly certain the gun is used and the factory springs in Pietta revolvers are known to have issues so I'm not surprised.
