    Of course there are a lot of great tutors out there on RUclips, but this is the first time I hear someone explaining a bit more than usual, not just what you can do in Blender, but the logic behind it, and it's "perfecto" for what I was looking for. Great stuff. Thanks a bunch!

    oh, and a small tip when doing lip sync never animate every sound we never move our mouths for every sound the tongue does a lot and we generally smooth over different sounds skipping 2 or 3 shapes every time .
    Makes the animation more believable and feels less over animated :D

    THis was a fantastic tutorial. In the last week ive watched loads of tutorials on many different aspects of blender. This has been the most concise, easy to follow along and somehow least boring too. I bought your add on but actually this was so well explained you really dont need to. I can totally see how to do eyes in the same way. It has really given me a thorough understanding of nodes and controls.

    Wow, amazing stuff! And I can see this method being useful for a lot of things aside from animated mouths. I’ll have to watch this a few times to be able to understand it though. Like, I’m not sure why when you plug an ID output into another ID input that it adds one to it. Seems like it should just be the same, unless you have a math node between them or something.
    [EDIT] Okay I see when watching the second time why this is happening… this is actually a group node and a math node IS included. Again, brilliant stuff.

      This is my only qualm with this video, but here's how you do it. So the way I've found is to make take the head object and the initial cube object for the mouths, then make the head object the vertex parent of the cube. Put the cube roughly where the mouths would go and scale it to be mouth sized, then put them both in edit mode and pick about 3 vertices on the head to parent the cube to. Hope this helps, if late.

    How could the "Image" (or material) option for this be used to create 2D type animated mouths (like in The Lego Movie)? I used the Geometry version and created different planes each with a different viseme image and Shrinkwraped the base plane onto my character where the mouth would be, which worked, but curious if the "Image" option would work better?

    This is very cool - I'll have to re-watch to understand it better. I've been trying to get a good lipsync workflow for a 3d character for awhile. I went some ways down the Blendshapes ARKit route, then the BlendAR Mocap route, and most recently have created pose libraries of visemes.
    Is there a way to use geometry nodes to trigger poses? A further thing I'm hoping to figure out is if there's a way to import the data from an XML with frame numbers and visemes. I've been using the auto lipsync in Adobe Animate to generate visemes, and then if you select the layer they are on and go to Commands/Export Motion XML, it will give you a file with frame numbers and the associated viseme. I got the Merlin AI to give me a google sheets formula to extract just the frame numbers and visemes from the XML, so I end up with a list of just the frames and visemes.
    With your system, it could speed up the initial pass of lipsynching as you can just go to the frames and then apply the visemes, but I suspect with not too much scripting or nodes (neither of which I know how to do), there'd be a way to essentially import the lipsync animation data and have it apply the right viseme.
    Great tutorial!

    Great work and love the method.
    I was wondering if you could do a tutorial at some point on animating mouths with mesh beards. My current version has a mouth texture overlaying a beard mesh, but I'd much rather have a mouth that's part of the actual mesh. I'd rather have a mouth on my characters similar to that in your Stylised Character tutorials, but I'm having difficulty with my character having a mesh beard. If you were able to do a tutorial on mouth rigging, geometry nodes or even shape keys that include a mesh beard, either connected or disconnected from the main head mesh, I for one would be eternally grateful!
    Keep up the good work. Already following along with your current tutorials.

    Awesome work. I agree totally…automated lip sync (and even facial expressions) just does not cut it. Not only is it unconvincing, but it’s got no life in it…it’s not entertaining. ✊ What advantage do you see over shape keys for visemes? I would think the “sliders” on shape keys might be an advantage. 🤔🍷🎩🎩🎩 Thanks 🙏

    • @FruitZeus
      @FruitZeus  3 года назад +1

      Thanks John! Well for one, if you use sliders and shape keys you'll get fluid movements. The mouth will transition (interpolate) from one shape to another, where as this is more of a stylized approach. These mouth shapes will snap into place giving a much more stop motion look. This is also a quicker method overall. And another ease of use case would be that you can just import this mouth into any character file and parent it directly to the head bone. No actual mesh deformations / topology needs to be accounted for here.

    One other thing, i've tried your technique and it's awesome for stop motion as it is said in the title but is there any way we can have smooth interpolations between the various mouth shapes ? Iknow it sounds like i want to redo shapekeys, but shapekeys only work on the same object with the same amount of vertices and what i'd like to be able to do is turn a cube in acylinder with geometry nodes, just like you do but without the stop motion effect...XD yeah i want it all...XD Anyway thanks again for the share of knowledge and keep it up ;)

    • @FruitZeus
      @FruitZeus  2 года назад

      Hey! So yeah that’s with the node wrangler addon! It’s shift right click and drag. As for the interpolation, yeah you’d definitely have to do this with shape keys. And it might even be easier to make a bones rig to control it like a regular mouth at that point. Especially if you want really expressive shapes.

      Parent it to the head bone directly. Dont use automatic weights.

    Good tutorial, but what if the Mouth is within the Mesh of the face?

      Good question! So the point of this tutorial is to be creating the mouth outside the character. That way you can slap it on any character you want.
      If the mouth is part of the mesh beneath, you can either use shape keys to define different shapes and still use constant interpolation to make it look ‘s n a p p y’
      But I’d really recommend making THIS style as a separate object. That way you can operate with geometry nodes and it won’t interfere with any weight painting of the mouth shapes.

    Hi, I just bought this. Too complicated. I just want to add smile mouth shape but there is no guide at all. Even how to import this mouth asset in the project file is not shown. I try to duplicate the mouth and make the smile shape, but I can't because somehow I can't go to edit mode with this asset. Please help.
