We respect Tobias and his content and have never approached him because we're aware of and respect his non-commercial style. Different RUclipsrs / Audiences have different opinions and stances on 'sponsored content' and we don't like advertisement being shoved down your throat either. I think that's why most of us are watching RoJ and not GCN. 9 times out of 10 it's the RUclipsr who approaches us. It can be hard for small brands to be noticed with the marketing budget of the big brands. But anyway, we're also looking forward to the build, too. Everyone stay safe and ride hard. Peace! 🙌

    Speaking from experience: GRX-810/15 (the 2x derailleur) works flawlessly with a 40T cassette without any modifications or extended hangers. It does struggle with 42T. The 812/17 (the 1x derailleur) works flawlessly with a 46T cassette. Garbaruk offers a cage with an offset guide-pulley that allows the 812/17 to wrap around a 50T cassette without extended hanger.

    • @tomandsamuel
      @tomandsamuel 2 года назад

      Thank you. I’m trying to decide between the XT 8050 and the GRX 817. Both can take my 42T and 11-42. I have read that the GRX would struggle with the 46 cassette if I ever wanted to change. Plus the GRX has a listed drivetrain capacity of 31T. If you are speaking from experience then that’s great. Can’t see a lot more differences between the 817 and 8050??

  • @Freddy3792
    @Freddy3792 3 года назад +2

    I can confirm: I run the GRX RD-RX815 on my Gravel bike with a 50-34 up front and 11-40 in the back and still the capacity is big enough if you leave the di2 setting that it blocks the 2 or 3 smallest cogs on the small ring (even the mechanical version works with such a setup without blocked gears). Thought about that RX817 mod where you replace the plates and pulley wheels with an XT SGS, but it works fine with the b-screw relatively far in. So with 1x you will be more than OK in terms of capacity. Only issues could be clearance depending on hanger/frame geometry, but I highly doubt that.

So I started looking at components and found everything I wanted was selling out quick, and not restocking! I purchased just about everything. With covid delays the frame was never even made, its going to be March or even later. So sad to see so much money in components literally useless just sitting there. I had a back up frame I could get but my heart isn't on it, also its double to price.

    @rides of Japan. Have you looked at Rekon cassettes? Machined out of billet aluminum. About half the weight of comparable cassettes and not that expensive.

      @ridesofjapan  3 года назад +1

      I’ve tried a few different “off brand” cassettes and all of them have left have sub-par shifting compared to Shimano.
      I have a specific combination I want to try in the future though once 12speed has arrived.

    Dude, you could save about 70g with an XD driver and xx1/x01 10-42 cassette. And the pedals have similar potential. Definitely go for that before you buy a different stem!

    The THM Tibia actually left me feeling a bit bummed. I bought a really cheap Bontrager stem, just to check if 100 mm would feel right. 178 grams. I went on and ordered a 100 mm THM Ulna. 86 grams. Buying a stem that cost more than ten times more saved me 92 grams. On the positive side, the stem looks amazing...
