The men were tough and would put a fist in your face as quick as look at you,if you upset them but never to me. But they would buy you a pint afterwards and it would all be forgiven and forgotten. Many now dead, may they rest in peace. Good luck to you on your marriage, may you have many years ahead of you together. Wishing you love and luck.
I'm 36 and rely on a walker to help me get around. Hats off to him (and all the recovery aid from his nurse wife!) to be able to move like that at 63! I can't even fathom being able to do that. ☀️

A fella' who suffers a broken back, paralysis, God knows how many procedures, back braces, therapy and rehab, and 16 years late in a Dublin TV studio, put together a Irish Reel that is incredibly dexterous and terpsichorean, surprised Angels and a few older viewers weren't weeping at the sight of him on the studio floor! Made us all smile just a wee bit!

Passive smoking was a part of daily life for non smokers so they may as well have been smoking anyway. A cigarette in a persons hand was as normal looking as a mobile phone today. Let’s just hope that phones don’t have the same knock on effect on people’s health.....

A wide shot is easier to frame and focus, even with a moving subject, black & white looks sharper than early colour, different types of film were used in studio vs location, and so on (which explains quality differences in Monty Python sketches). At this point, I can't remember the frame-by-frame, but consider also, that film degradation over time kind of flattens the focus differential (per se), so it's harder for us to tell what mistakes might have been made in something that hasn't been reformatted/cleaned up for a digital medium. The equipment used now is a lot better, reliable, and portable. Live to air will always have an element of "reinventing the wheel," and it's easy to choose the few best bits after the fact, so we shouldn't judge the other 70% against those gems. 🤗 * Which has been restored, reformatted from film to DVD, etc., for modern playback.

This isn’t ballet or some other form of dance where the top half of the body is moving and expressing, this is Irish dancing, where the movement is only in the legs and feet. My whole point is that the cameraman did very well capturing Irish dancing. Many don’t. I don’t want to see an Irish dancer’s head and not their feet, it’s pointless.

I'm an American who grew up watching Soul Train and loved it. This guy however, is amazing. It goes to show there are great dance forms and amazing dancers in all the cultures. They were mighty times. Could anyone dance like this today ' I wonder.? There can be no doubt it was probably meant to be a comedy item' but it also respected the tradition. The accordion' was probably a red Paolo Soprani. This was long before the awful modern sounding accordion' took over.

John is wearing the Pioneer pin. Does anyone here know about that? I first lived in Ireland in 1975. A few of my relatives wore the pin, most didn't. Do they still do that in Ireland? The host said he dances so well because all he drinks is water. Thanks. I also know about the water.
