Great work Tony. My wife was brought up in the Barton Inn. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Salford Council protect the G2 Royal Oak from parasites when they can sit by as the Swing Bridge rusts into oblivion.
I'm an Eccles lad and was the Area Manager for the Kings just before lockdown. It was a great pub in it's day. Prior to that I looked after approx 15'ish Eccles pubs during and after the 1990's. Sad to see them all go. (These are the pubs I looked after or had some dealings with Golden Lion, Ship, Kings, Rock House, Dutton, Packet, Wellington, Wangies, Dog and Partridge, Town Hall, Finn McCouls, Oddfellows, Cross Keys, Egerton (Winton) - the Pub companies involved were Inn Partnership, Pubmaster, Punch and laterally Admiral Taverns)i
Blimey mate so sad. Royal oak was a cracking pub, used to go in the Black Boy, Cloudies, cross keys, white lion, crown n volunteer etc etc. Damn shame mate
Worked in Eccles from 2001 2004,always amazed me how many pubs were in a relatively small area, one every few doors down Liverpool Road. Swinton the same. Lost ours in Bolton suburbs long ago...demographic, cost, and perception. Awful really, could tell a tale or two could them places. Some fine examples of both the hotel and beerhouse in Eccles up until not long ago. Used to be a police officer in the old station before it moved down to Peel Green. Could always nip literally out of front door into Bridgewater 10 yard away after a shift. Couldnt happen now, same as you wouldnt be able call a pub the Black Boy! Great vids, good luck.
Change in habits. Many on anti depressants. So don’t get drunk every day, like our grandparents. Computer games. Social media. And date I say it. Many new arrivals that don’t follow our culture. 50 percent gone. Many more will go soon.
Fascinating stuff Tony

Waggon and Horses, Peel Green (formerly Dog and Partridge dating back to 1773) - demolished to make way for a Netto supermarket, now Asda...

Kings was on its bum towards the end days, unfortunately too much trouble let back in left a bad taste for me. Sad really.
