Nipped into a corner shop to buy a drink in Moss Side about 15 years ago. Had to go into a caged area before being let in, once deemed to be OK. Only other place I've seen a similar system is with Polar Bears at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

I grew up on the border with Old Trafford and Moss Side as a kid, as well as spending a couple of years in Wandsworth, in SW London. And I can tell you that neighbourhoods in North and East Manchester like Openshaw, Clayton and Harpurhey are all rougher than Moss Side. It's a matter of opinion but Moss Side isnt too bad, you have the gangs but they battle with each other and i feel safer walking round there than other areas mentioned here in the comments. Moston used to be like the Wild West but now it's had a great influx of African people its a lot safer to walk around at night and that's to its credit. Parts of Cheetham and Broughton are rough but as a separate city, Salford has the roughest estates by far in greater manchester. Good video bro.

Then you have this fool coming along looking down on communities. I was born in Salford and regularly parked up at Moss Side to watch City at Maine Road. In my opinion, Moss Side is the scarier of the two. Salford Precinct made me feel tense walking through it, but walking through Moss Side just made me feel uneasy. Didn't want to be there longer than I needed to. Not actually been to Moss Side since the late 90's, so maybe I've just got an old fashioned view of the place, hopefully things are better.

You're near enough right though .. the 7 sisters/Whalley Range was right next to Hulme. Crazy place, Hulme. Goin there tripping on acid was always gonna be a total Head fcuk. The weird geometric shapes of the flats was mental. It was the people that was the worst .. you had absolutely no idea wot you were gonna encounter goin up the stairs, or just goin in your own gaff .. especially if it was bein burgled .. or the worst of all was if the baddies turned up coz they had the wrong flat. You could end up dead.
I seen a guy get his face smashed in with hammers in the Spinners .. hearing someone gurgling cos they're choking on their own teeth is an experience that I wish I'd missed.
People were just walking about like the guy wasn't there.. Gettin a cheeky bit of weed in there on Friday night when it was a lovely disco.

Moss Side used to be rough in the 80s 90s. Longsight, Withy, areas of Salford like Swinton Broughton etc....

Interesting video. Moss Side is a dive but it's not as bad as it used to be. Gorton, Openshaw parts of Salford are worse nowadays imo.
