Children no longer play with toys because current toys are all designed for young children. When Monster High came out, many teenagers played with dolls (And there were smarthphones at that time), because they were attractive to teenagers too, the same goes for LOL OMG. When I was a child I still liked toys even after I was 10 years old, however I didn't feel like buying them because all the Hot Wheels tracks and Max Steel figures were boring. (I was born in 2000).
Maybe it's because I'm an adult, but all toys currently on the market seem so uninspired? It's the same, glittery, sparkly rainbow-poop every time. I don't blame current kids for not wanting to play with toys, I probably would've gotten bored really fast with everything that's available in stores right now (not to mention the fact that, at least in my country, physical stores are disappearing rapidly, which makes toy shopping a lot less exciting anyway).
Barbie is extremely childish looking now. It's not really fair as a lot of adults love Barbie, collectors will spend the most money and they're leaving us out completely.
Segan Toy Collector that’s pretty true I actually was 13 when the monster high dolls came out so I was already a teenager and saw how it was also if you ever read the books or even watch the mini episodes that they made they had actual teen problems
When i was a kid, one of the things i loved about Barbie, aside from her beauty, was the fact that she could bend her knees and i could pose her somewhat - i was hooked ! So, yes i believe that kids do like posable dolls... I also loved changing her clothes. This is MY opinion, of course, based on my own experience as a child 💖
In case of some specific characters (I'm a Disney collector) it would be so difficult almost impossible to achieve their movie accurancy with rooted hair. I mean I LOVE when they have rooted hair but it only works for past-the-shoulder lenght styles. I dont think characters like Eric, Charming, Aladdin etc would look that good if they werent mold haired.
Robson William I’ve seen Disney prince dolls with “hair” and I think they look just fine, and ofcourse there are exceptions for which molded hair may be needed. But for standard boy hair i don’t think it’s needs to be molded, and i personally really don’t like that look. I grew up with caligirl Ken dolls which had hair so i got used to it, I like it on Action Man though but that’s an action figure.
my 7 year old sister HATES when dolls have no articulation. and i remember when i was young, getting frustrated when a doll wouldnt pose like i wanted them to because they lacked articulaton. i understand when companies have to stick to smaller budgets and stuff, but if im gonna pay $15 or more for a doll I WANT ARTICULATION! Ugh especially for the more exclusive dolls, like the ones that come with extra fashion, or playsets like houses and cars, it's just such a dissapointment when they arent articulated. also i just remembered the snapstar dolls that flopped. they costed $12 where i live and they have amazing articulation! although i will say, the hair and clothes feel really cheap.
Older Barbies have kanekalon hair but unfortunately the factory that produces it no longer does so, so they had to switch to nylon which has less 'body' to it and I think the designers might not be used to it yet...?
I have some older Barbies (mostly hand me downs) that have thick hair, and I've noticed a major difference between 90s dolls and 2000s and 2010s dolls (although Barbies made prior to 2015 had pretty decent hair).
I love monster high dolls because of their uniqueness. The concept for dolls at the time was unique. Each character has a unique face, body mold and personalized fashion. The quality was really good in the beginning. Yes the joints are definitely delicate but I was always careful. The only thing I dislike is that the plastic stains quickly without any reason. And the quality declined fast after the budget cut for mh. And don't get me started on the reboot. Awful dolls, quality was bad and looked so dull. Movie as well couldn't finish it.
Teresa was always my favourite. Her face is prettier than Barbie imo. Shani was one of my favourites too. She has such a beautiful face mould. I loved Midge coz she had cute freckles. I love Kira too. They used her face for Polynesian Barbie and she is one of my favourite dolls. Oh and PJ is one of the cutest faces!! All my Barbies are stored at my dad's house. I really want to look at them now.
@Altoid Bazingá i want them to be like 2009, good fashion and nice articulation and names like sporty and arsty but with different bodies faces and skin colors
I grew up with Barbie and her figure never influenced me, as far as my body shape goes, she has been thru a rough patch as far as changing her body thru the ages; she has tried but you still can't make everybody happy... I admire her still to this day ( I'm 41 now, lol ). I do love your videos - keep it up 👍!
Not to mention her "proportions" need to account for all the clothing layering..... Why her neck was so long..... At some point, she came with a ton of scarves.....
When I was a kid my cousins and I had some of the real early MH dolls with the elastic joints and I remember loving them especially because they felt even MORE fancy and luxury with them being super frail.
I do admit early monster high’s were flimsy, but this was fixed very early on after Mattel realized the mistake. After the first few releases their arms became more sturdy and tightly fit, and if they became loose it was only from poor handling of letting too young of children keep them when they are clearly for older children and adults. It’s the same way small children lose Bratz shoes very easily. And the elastic joints didn’t last more than the first year of production, this was quickly changed for plastic leg joints that are very sturdy and near impossible to break unless you force it. I have collected Monster High’s since they came out and even then I have only had two early dolls break the elastic but only with frequent handling. If they break it’s mostly the owners fault, not the doll; because even though they weren’t the best, they were still sturdy enough for the audience they should have been aimed towards. No parent should get a 5 year old a doll with tiny jewelry and thousands of choking hazards and clearly fragile parts and expect it to last.
I agree 100%. In my opinion Barbie was targeted more towards younger children as Wellers early teens, where is brats was more in that middle area for 10 to 13-year-olds and wants to high was more for early teens to adults. I started collecting monster high when I was about 14 and continue to collect them until I was about 17 or 18, because I absolutely loved everything they stood for including the movies and TV series, as they reminded me a lot of brats for being more edgy and different compared to Barbie
Ashley Advice right!!! Like Barbie clearly had its own lines made for young children with the very child friendly faces and clothes. Meanwhile Bratz and Monster High always had more adult-like faces and fashion such as mini skirts and crop tops. Even in the Monster High show they went into topics such as acne, racism, cheating, prison, and things just clearly not for children while Barbie always kept a pretty perfect fantasy world clearly for younger audiences. Because of that barbies clearly hold up better because they are made for it, meanwhile Monster High was meant for easy handling and more display than play based before the reboot so basing them on durability isn’t really fair when 99% of the breakage comes from small children outside their intended audience. It’s why I also never understood the whole “Karen Kills” situation of it and parents thinking they were too scary for young children when Mattel knew that and didn’t make it for them? It’s like saying a horror movie is too scary for a child when they shouldn’t be watching it anyway.
Yes, exactly! While Barbies movies are good they’re more targeted towards younger children, with not much of a plot or character development, while monster high movies Are more entertaining, with more thought out character development and plot that make them enjoyable for all ages as well as Still being appropriate for younger audiences and just scary enough for anyone who still get scared by horror films.
Totally agree most of my rescued dolls have come from charity shops you can tell 100% if a child has owned that doll it’s just a train wreck compared to an adult collector
I am 4 years late lmao but I do agree with all of you, MH g1 and bratz where clearly made for older children and teenagers who were ”too old“ to play with the pink world Barbie but still liked dolls. I won’t repeat what all of you said but this just shows for who they where created for.
I think that Mattel should bring back Winx club dolls and their quality was so good back in the early 2000's but when Jacks Pacific made them they look like total trash and the hair was total crap and their bodies broke too easily.
the jacks winx dolls got better when sirenix came out. as for the joints i never really had that problem, i guess you just have to be more careful with them.
It's complicated because it's a licensed property. Winx, like the magical girl genre in general, has always had issues finding footing in America. They got lucky back then, but let's be honest, even back in '04-'06 the series and dolls were never marketed to their full potential in the states. Because North American companies have made it clear time and time again that they don't care about Magical Girls, the chances of it coming back and securing a TV airing deal that doesn't suck is slim.
@@DropsOfIndigo The Mattel dolls did huge in Europe though! I've had them and tbh it's the only Winx Club doll that i like, but as a whole the Winx Club brand has had it's succes and is now going downhill. I agree with you that Mattel producing these dolls again will probably not happen. The (American) live action series is coming to Netflix though, not sure what to expect.
I do remember having a Ken with rooted hair, and after a couple years his hair was a mess lol he looked like he really needed a shower and lay off the drugs.
Barbie is my all time favorite doll, but I have to agree that most of the doll in the past 7 years really disappointed me... I’ve been collecting Barbie for over 20 years, the best RECENt era had to be 2007 to 2014 especially 2008 and 2009 when a Barbie were celebrating her 50th anniversary, the movies were also amazing. Everything after that went downhill.
I feel like if you aren't a person of color or grew up in an urban environment then it is very difficult for someone on the outside to fully understand the influence that Bratz has on communities of minorities and continue to
I'm so much into Lol Omg Fashion dolls lately. I love most of them and like you said i LOVE their bending knees. I wish they would bend a little more like older barbies, and it would be nice to change their face molds or eyes shape a little so they don't look like each other so much. Other than that i personally think they are the best quality dolls in the market right now.
Molded clothing and hair shouldn't be on fashion dolls or even most regular dolls. Feels cheap and lazy. I also pretty much agree with the LOL OMG baby faces on a mature looking body. It doesn't sit well with me either. Their faces were what held me back from getting every doll. I just get the ones with a design I like xD Edit: forgot to add that THEY GOTTA STOP WITH THE BLIND BAG DOLLS. There's pretty dolls but the blind bag gimmick just turns it into a big no for me.
For me it was the face and the fact that they have nipples. Makes me so incredibly uncomftrable to know that they have nipples. Idk Why. 💀 like i own two but i bought them only for their clothes 😂
The original release of Monster High dolls had the elastic hip joints but they switched then out soon after. Consider it was targeting the tween demographic they dolls were very well made and had detail. The Ever After High dolls had the same issue with head glue .. all my Cerise Hood dolls had the leakage issue
The legs and the weight of the dolls I completely agree with you. It was the first thing I noticed when picking up our granddaughters barbies, they felt cheap and not nice to hold. I'd definitely pay a little more if they would return her to her old, better self.
There are videos on RUclips that show you how to fix the glue seepage issue and kn how to repair broken joints. Though as one who collected Monster High dolls I can attest to some dolls having loose joints and the joints can stiffen over time, as I found with my one Clawdeen doll who was posed with her arm bent. It was overall one of the best and most unique doll lines out there that Mattel killed by making them more ‘child friendly.’
I feel that Bratz was only relevant in the United States ... In Brazil (My country) Barbie still sold extremely well at that time, Barbie was expensive in Brazil, but Bratz was even more expensive! Most parents did not have the money to buy a Bratz for their kids.
Actually they were much more popular here in the U.K. they became the number one doll brand here and because they sold so well here we got so many UK exclusives. They took barbies title of number one doll brand in the U.K.
i have never even seen any bratz dolls here in brazil and i was born in 2002, not even when they released the bratzillas. maybe i just didn't care enough but i have absolutelly no recollection to see them just like i used to see barbie, monster high and even ever after high.
i’d say they’ve _become_ irrelevant, and it is very true that they flop harder every reboot. the early 2000’s Bratz will forever be iconic but tbh every Bratz from the last decade has been quite tragic. the 2018 collector dolls were eh okay, but 2015 was just sooo bad
As much as I love Bratz, it's the truth. They haven't been interesting since 2009 with the exception of the Chic Mystique line, in my opinion. Their reboots get worse and worse. I wish they'd put real effort into making quality collector dolls that we don't mind spending the extra cash on.
I have Monster High dolls and they're some of the most well made dolls, I agree the joints can get loose over time but I disagree with the yellowing in the sun because the sun bleaches any and everything
Articulation on a doll should be ESSENTIAL. Elbows and knees MINIMUM. Like the 90's up to mid-2000's. I personnaly Prefer the articulation with the screws because I am a doll customiser and you cant paint on rubber legs. Even when I was a little girl I adored articulated dolls they were always my favorite to play with. I was happy when I had a new barbie then EXTATIC when I found out she also had articulation. Hair can be short but has to be good quality, and not too often because barbie must first have really long hair. Dont always have to be ankle lengh but once in a while thats nice too. As for bratz my favorite line was the 10th aniversary reboot because it has modern clothes that matched eachother with few jarring patterns and smaller, RESONABLE size shoes. Dolls MUST have a variety of skin tones and body sizes its called being progressive and evolving as a compagny tho dolls frozen in awkard poses are called figurines not dolls so I agree on that one hahaha XD L.O.L O.M.G faces are....ok. They are cute. Its more for the fashions and overall awesome quality of the doll although there is rather a few of them wich I find too tacky or jarring (very original tho, give them that) I own a few Monster Highs about 20+ my second hands for customization plus a few EAH and I have to say I had to reroot my Maddie Hatter because of glue that oozed out of the skull plus early MH articulation can be a bit of a mess but they were never meant fort little little kids anyways🤷and overall had Excellent quality anywere near the garbage reboots EAH and MH.
2009 was the last great year for Barbie, with the whole 50th anniversary "My Favorite Barbie" line. Sad reality is kids are more into Tech than playing imagination with barbie. The 21st century version of playing Barbies is the Sims. Mattel should know by now that Barbie's main demo is adult collectors, and they should cater more to us considering we're willing to spend our hard earned cash on their recent "flops" imo. I feel like we're being ignored. After all they're just a company, but many people have been loyal to Barbie since 1959, and it's sad this is the quality is far beyond from where it started, must less their 90's quality clothing (it was still pretty good quality then even with Velcro). Painted, and molded on outfits, ugh...
I myself am not to keen on bend and snap legs on Barbie or any doll line for that matter. It was better in the 60s, 70's and 80s but after that you were lucky if the knees would click more than twice and after awhile the knees would stop bending altogether. And lets face it, it's a nightmare getting tight fitting clothes over bendy legs. Also children are less tempted to chew on them if the plastic is harder.
As a child and into my mid teen years I loved brats and monster high over Barbie because they were different. When it comes to the quality of monster high and the flimsy limbs I think it depends on the dolls they got better over time before the reboot. As for Bratz I loved it that they had the bending knees that snapped because It meant that the clothes were easy to put on but you could also sit them down and stuff like that which was great for playing with them or posing them
Thank you for standing up for Barbie diversity, and non-model skinny bodies. I have 4 daughters and I know what it's like to have to explain to a child why Barbie doesn't look like her.
Huh? Barbie has had "diversity" since the 80's..... And she's a fashion doll, not a self insert character..... And by looking at black girls dressed as Snow White and Elsa and Blonde Boys dressed as The Falcon or Black Panther.....You are such a weak sauce argument...... Praise The Lord I wasn't traumatized cause I don't look like a Red Haired, Muscled, Cat Man.....
I don't mind stiff collector dolls like silkstones and older model muse because their appearance makes up for it. They have presence, prettier faces and nicer clothes, and I like to display them. But when it comes to playline, give me ALL the articulation, otherwise they look paralyzed and cheap, which they are, but posing them helps.
Mattel's true reason...is because of what used to happen to 80s and 90s dolls over time. Have you ever held an 80s doll with sticky leg syndrome? That's plasticine leaking out. The stuff that keeps those rubber legs flexible. Once it's all seeped out and been washed off or worn off with play, those bend and snap knees no longer bend and snap without cracking the rubber, but beyond that, do you really want a kid playing with a doll that has chemicals leaking out of her legs?
I mean it's a bit of a stretch, yes these dolls have had these issues before but that problem has been solved in the 00s. There are still dolls getting made right now that have bend and snap legs, it's clearly Mattel just wanting to produce as cheap as possible and not about chemicals.
I actually have a " leaking" doll and she was not even vintage when i got her, i bought her in 2000s from the store and i only realized it when i got home.... she was extra shinny all over ! That was the only Barbie i ever got with that problem. I later, bought a Tinkerbell doll and ... same issue ! Never really knew what was going on! I still own them to this day though 💕
@@fightthefairy I am an adult collector, just so you know. But we assume adult collectors are intelligent enough not to put Barbie's feet in their mouths and to wash their hands after handling dolls with 'sticky stuff' on their legs. We don't assume that about a four or five year old. As for the plasticine leakage being "fixed" in the 00s, I'm honestly only going by what I've been told/found online/noticed in my own childhood dolls. I might be wrong, but I was fairly sure there was an actual reason for the change.
I do agree with the moulded hair. Rooted hair does not act like real hair and in order to create shorter hairstyles, it basically needs to be glued into shape as the rooted hair will not sit in those styles no matter how much you boil wash or do anything to the hair. If the hair fiber quality was better than it may stand a better chance. So since it has to be glued down to maintain the style.... there really isn’t much difference between having that or moulded hair. It’s stuck in that style and if you try to do anything with it, you ruin the hair.
I still have my Monster High dolls before their reboot. And all my dolls are fine just having issues with some of their hair because of I guess a product that is in there and I can't get it out. But overall my dolls are in good condition I think it's because I didn't play with them only collected them.
@Altoid Bazingá watch "a thousand splendid dolls", she has really good tips on how to fix doll hair, even dolls with the glue problem. when i have a doll with the glue problem, if it's not that bad and it's just at the scalp i use a little bit of baby powder and brush it so it can blend in her hair better, but it can make the hair a lot thicker, and dry so be careful with that. if it's really bad i suggest goo gone, or oxy powder. if your doll is still actively leaking try your best to keep it from heat.
Just imagine how cool the Fashionistas would be with articulation In the knees, elbows, hands ankles, and waist! They would be the best, most diverse dolls out there!
I’m totally agree with you I NEED BENDABLE KNEES, when i hold my budget black Barbie doll i can feel the cheap, i found that stiff legs so boring I LOVE when fashion dolls has long hair, but i can accept short hair too, what matters for me is the hair quality, i want soft hair to touch, not a cheap fiber I am agreee with you that black Barbies are rare, today i went on eBay to see which were and were few, so yes, black Barbie dolls are rare, especially here in Italy, and it’s not a good thing
I Absolutely Hate LOL Surprise! I Just Don’t See The Point In It! I Don’t Get Why They Have To Come In Blind Boxes! Why Do They Need Be A Surprise? Why Can’t I Just See What I’m Buying? It’s So Stupid!🌀
I'm not big on blindbags either for the same reason. As a picky person, I'd rather pay a few extra bucks to know EXACTLY what I'm getting. Even as a kid I had very specific characters I liked in doll lines and that was that. I just don't see the appeal in paying $10-15 again and again and again and again to MAYBE get what you want.
My recommendation for collecting L.O.L. surprise dolls is just buying the dolls you want from ebay or something. It may be more expensive, but you know exactly what you're getting.
I am collecting Monster High dolls, they did a few adjusted bodies before the reboot, but the amount of detail and how much work was placed in each doll being a individual. It is a fuel for why i love them, but because monster high is in limbo. I miss the dolls and particular designers who worked on them plus the original message the dolls had
My monster high dolls articulation is good but I have a tip get one of the assorted clear hair rubber bands and put them into the joint wrapping them at least twice you may have to use more than one . This method makes joints tighter . I have several dolls I fixed joints with this method
Unpopular ooinions: Integeity Toys Dolls are regular Barbies with Awsome clothes and accesories , nude they are just meh . Hot Toys are Dolls , and they are overrated , I paid $300 U.S. dollars for a Star Lord and he has many quiality issues
To me it feels like dolls cater more towards parents and what they feel is appropriate as to opposed to what a kid actually wants. Once a kid starts to grow they dont want to play with baby toys. That was part of the appeal of barbie and bratz back then. They dressed more grown up and kids could act out dramatic lives and pretend their grown. Nowadays Barbie has cheap or molded clothes, and little to no accessories, which parents love because they have less to clean up, but it's less for the kid to play with and feels more like something their baby sibling would play with.
Controversial Barrie body mold opinion: while I like the message of the different molds, as a heavier person having my doll deal with the struggles of none of the normal clothes fitting her make me feel worse about myself not better.
Thats not the fault of the mold tho-thats the fault of the company not accomindating to said mold Theres been contervisary with wheelchair dolls unable to fit into doll houses too, thats not the fault of the doll its the fault of the company Implying they should stop making them because the products are made for skinny able bodied dolls isnt gonna help, we should be instead calling out companys for being lazy and not putting in effort to fix it This is coming from someone whos fat also
Children give-up toys by around eight years of age. They're exposed to mature things way too early and they're not allowed to just be children and play with toys - that's modern society's fault! I love what people call "bend and snap" ( I hate that term!! ) joints! My all-time favorite dolls are "Living Barbie and Living Skipper" I like the idea of a "skeleton" covered by a "skin", so you don't see the joints. Sort of realistic. Although I love the pose-ability and articulation, I hate the aesthetic of made-to-move, ball-jointed, and other similar dolls. They look like robots or look like they're all broken-up. I hate it!
I have loved monster high since I first laid eyes on the original lagoona doll. I always found their style and fashion so creative and different so I was drawn to them more than any other type of doll. I absolutely love how articulate they are and as a kid I never found that same articulation with a Barbie doll. I agree that There was a big issue with the original dolls leg joints because they used elastic and they fell apart incredibly easily but once enough people realized how fragile they were, the dolls switched to have plastic to connect the legs instead of elastic and I had no issues with the dolls falling apart after that.
1. The thing about monster high dolls is true, especially their hair. With time the glue spills over the hair destroying it and leaving stains on dolls' heads. 2. Modern barbies are mostly atrocious, the example being barbie colour reveal dolls. When I was a kid, I would never even think about wanting that shit. I don't understand the concept at all. 3. As much as lol omg dolls are very well executed, I can't stand their face designs and I feel the same towards bratz dolls. Sorry. :)
Thing about the legs on Barbies, is that....the plastic doesn't need to be cheap. Like, I've still got a Gymnast Barbie from 1994 and her legs were plastic and articulated. And she's still fine. That's one of the reasons I've kept her. She WAS easier to dress.
unpopular opinion: the “Life in the Dreamhouse” era of Fashionistas was quite bad. the only remarkable thing about them was the articulation [which wasn’t even as good as the very first Fashionistas]
I agree. The Fashionistas articulation was great, but I never liked their clothes. Their outfits and accessories were a serious downgrade. What confuses me the most about those dolls was the fact that the line began immediately after Fashion Fever had ended. Then again, the 2010s (IMO) were an awful decade for fashion.
Some Barbie fashionista dolls clothes are for the most part tacky nowadays. Agree with the omg dolls. The faces is the reason why I would most likely never get them. I am also not a fan of the printed pixel faces on new barbies and really shiny or highlighted big faces on dolls ex the Rainbow high dolls. They are beautiful but the shiny big faces just throw me off.
I kinda agree about the Monster High opinion... It's really upsetting when I look at my dolls which are in perfect condition but their heads start to yellow because of the stupid glue. 💔 And there's not much you can do about this...
Okay, I’m going to put my opinion on all these doll opinions, so this comment might be a bit long. Plus, I got even more doll news! Before I put my opinions though, I just wanna say I’m sorry I haven’t followed you on Instagram, I would love to talk about doll stuff with you, but I don’t have an Instagram account, I only have Facebook, and RUclips. Okay, now for my opinions. For the Bratz comment, I can’t really say, I have never owned a Bratz doll in my life, my mom never let me, and I haven’t seen them in stores, I definitely might try to get one on eBay or something. 2. Everything Barbie has put out in the last 7 years has sucked. I agree but I don’t agree, I love the Fashionista’s and some of the new dolls, I mainly just hate the dolls with the painted on clothes. 3. Barbie must have long hair always. I disagree, I actually really want to see Barbie with a pixie cut like me, and I love some of the short hair dolls. 4. The comment about the bodies. I disagree, I love the curves, petite, and all the body types. 5. All Barbies should have elbow and knee articulation. I totally agree. Articulation makes them way more fun to play with, but I also don’t mind the rubber type bend and snap knees ( I think that was another comment) 6. Ken’s molded on hair. I’m so used to Ken’s and Disney guys molded on hair that I really don’t mind it. 7. Okay, might have to make another comment later with more opinions . ( family coming over) but first my doll news. My friend who is sending me all the vintage dolls decided to surprise me, and they also sent me a package with several Disney Prince dolls including, Kristoff, Prince Naveen, Prince Charming, Prince Adam ( Beast, from Beauty and the Beast) and my favorite Prince Florian.( from Snow White) and Prince Florian came with all 7 dwarves! So yes, I am super excited! Also, my sister ordered me a Disney Fairies doll, Rosetta. 😁 so yeah, I’m getting a bunch of dolls!
I agree with most of this except I personally don’t think Barbie could pull of a pixie cut it would just look like a kid chopped her especially since Mattel puts minimal effort int her hair styles now a day I used to love back in the day when the collector dolls would have like elaborate updos lol
60s through 90s barbies are so much better looking than 00s to current. I grew up with 00s barbies and thought (the face molds especially) looked more boring every year.
I dont know why they would get rid of what little articulation barbies had with the snap knees. The only problem I ever had with them, is that the rubbery material can be a bit sticky.
My unpopular opinion is that Mattel should bring back the bend and snap knees and rubbery legs on Barbies and make her feet bigger to stand, and make dolls clothes more detailed like Fashion Fever Era.
a child of the 70's. One day me and my brother and I traded toys. He loved my barbies designed them clothes which he sewed for them. He dyed original barbies hair blue with a permanent marker! Anyway, I traded him the Barbies for his Tonka collection. When my Dad found out, we had to reverse our deal. I wasn't into dolls, and I sucked at dress up. My brother always had better balloon boob's and matching purse and shoes. Love your videos!
I love dolls with articulation. That was my biggest gripe about Bratz is limited lines had them. Although they are my fav doll and I'm a huge collector of them. Rainbow High has really impressed me though due to their style and articulation. I have just started to collect them now. I guess an unpopular opinion would be that I think they have been the best quality dolls made so far, and this is coming from a huge Bratz fan. Also, I'm sad that some people do not find Bratz relevant anymore. I think their 20th anniversary dolls sold well and people were excited (I def was and got all 4 :))
I really don't understand how Mattel says, kids don't care about articulation. When I was little I was really into the more articulation the better. There were clone dolls (Karina in Germany) I preferred over Barbie because they were more poseable and better to play with. Same goes for molded clothes - I never ever would have wanted the painted on stockings from my first Barbie in the 90s!
I like the diversity of body type of the Barbie fashionista line , but I have to say the whole clothing that Barbie has been coming out with is so cheap! It’s all thin screen printed on , 1 layer clothes and for the 20 buck price tag for 1 doll , to me is not worth it ! mGA is really rocking it with their clothing line in the rainbow high and OMG dolls! Mattel should really look into that ! The barbies fashion clothes just aren’t like they used to be , like my love back in the 80-90s ( valentines , peaches n cream , glow in the dark star ,ice skating , rock star and gel long hair Barbie dolls ) those are the ones that I remember loving !
“Especially knee articulation” I disagree, so often if a doll has any kind of articulation it’s just the knees and I’ve never understood why? I’d 1000% rather have elbow articulation if I can only have one...it’s so much more important on posing! I basically never do THAT much with the legs. They’re just standing, but the arms? A million possibilities!
I agree Barbie in the past 7+ years has really really gone down but I think all they really need to do is bing that 90s quality to their current line of body sizes. if we had twist and turn and bendable leg Fashionstias they wouldn't seem nearly as cheep. also the hair quality in general has gone down! I love the various styles we r seeing now i just wish the hair didn't feel as cheep as it does currently. and i also agree with u about the "super thin" body mold. there's more than enough "thin" barbies on the market we don't need them all to stay one size! also i don't like the dolls that permanently stand contra posto. i know they r for display purposes only but when i was a kid i NEVER gave a shit about weather a doll was a "collector" doll or not. in 95 i saved up $50 and went and got a Dorothy Barbie from Toys R Us and played with her till i didn't play with dolls anymore, she didn't owe me a god damed dime! so the little boy inside me sees these weirdly posed dolls and thinks ew i can only do so much with this doll in play...(just to clarify i do not "play" with dolls any more but i collect to build their clothes and structures. she's an art form for me) but still the permanent pose rubs me the wrong way.
I don't think every barbie since 2013 sucked like the life in the dream house dolls , made to move , fashionista, barbie style , Moschino, puma and star wars Barbie's and the latest dreamtopia doll with the pastel dress
True , Barbie has had some pretty disappointing lines, but collector dolls are still high quality and extraordinary...but yes, articulation and removable clothes are the best when it comes to the other lines! Bend and snap knees were the best 💕, although the model muse body barbies are really great !
My daughter is 5 and definitely taking after me with my Barbie obsession. Her favorite are the gymnastics dolls because she has SO MUCH articulation. Barbie NEEDS articulation and removable clothes, those are the things that make them playable.
Mattel loves playing games with its customers, they had to haul tail when the competition was coming up on them.I love the diverse body types.I am thirsty for articulation,it's sad no one is talking about Wild Hearts Crew Dolls.Mattel fashions need a lot of work, but the shoes (flats) are more real world thought
I recently got into ooak doll making and have bought a couple lots of old MH dolls and the quality really does seem to vary, the ones made in Indonesia seem better quality imo. The thing with the glue seepage is a nightmare though if I’m trying to restore the hair though, I can’t believe how bad some of them are, like theyre glued together in one solid chunk.
Unpopular opinion: I don’t mind molded hair on dolls because when I buy secondhand dolls the ones with rooted hair often have it ruined, frizzy or cut way shorter than original length
I love this video. You are so fun to listen to and I love your little laughs. I have a collection of American Girl dolls and I wish they had articulated arms and legs. The articulation of the MTM Barbies are my absolute favorite of all dolls, at this point. I have endless fun posing them in my travels.
UO: I prefer Barbie over Bratz (not the modern Barbie dolls we don't talk about those) Barbie has been my childhood and i find it more apealing than Bratz. My Barbie doll can work as whatever and actually wear clothes for said work, or be a teenager and go to school and stuff. Bratzs can't wear uniforms for work or anything, they are stuck being teens
I definitely agree with the statement about Bratz being irrelevant. As much as I adored them as a kid, they haven't been interesting since 2009. Both reboots were awful and the collector line was definitely not worth $50. I mostly collect older Bratz with the only recent addition to my collection being 2018 Cameron because I found him NIB for $11. I think they could do well if they got back to their roots instead of trying to cater to moms that will always have something to complain about.
I have a bunch of monster high dolls and every single one of them has some manufacturing error. And the glue problem is soooo rampant, literally i washed their hair in lukewarm water and now every single one of them just has glue in their hair with no way to fix it
-They should bring back Tara Lynn, Jazzie and all versions of Todd (Tutti's twin, Tracy's husband and Stacie's twin) -The Dreamtopia line is unnecessary and overrated. How many fairy dolls do you need with pink/purple/rainbow hair? -The Fold n' Fun House was a good dollhouse.
My unpopular opinion - I don't get the hype around Monster High. I love the concept, but I don't really like the designs and outfits. The dolls make a good base though for customisation, and I like the articulation.
The ""Fully articulated "" ( Head, Shoulders, wrist, elbow, hip, knee) should be the standard on ALL dolls, not just a special feature.. When i was a child, i liked to play with my dolls and make them do stuff The Doll that had more articulation had the best boyfriend (my brother's Max Steel) and the best furniture becouse she could actually sit on it... meanwhile the dolls with less articulation were the "servant" and the "background characthers" and would stay home while the more articulated doll climbed montains with her boyfriend
My unpopular doll opinions • LOL/OMG and Lalaloopsy dolls are *not* creepy. They are unique approaches to the fashion doll and I like their kawaii aesthetics. • There need to be more made to move dolls of "strong" female characters or female superheroes. In my opinion the DC Superhero Girls and the Luisa doll from Encanto should've had tons of articulation for action poses as these characters are always "on the move." • Flavas (2002) are not ripoffs of Bratz and are *HIGHLY* underrated • The Disney Princess line from Mattel should be more diverse. Where's the Mulan, Pocahontas, Merida, and Raya dolls?! And would Leia and Anastasia count nowadays since Disney now owns these characters?
I love bratz but in terms of doll isles, yes, bratz are not relevant because they’re not around but I APPRECIATE mga so much for sticking with bratz and always trying to make them better. I hope to see them again really soon. AND YESS FINALLY I LOVE BEND N SNAP legs they bring so much weight to a doll and they give enough range of motion and you don’t see a ball joint so yea I love Bend n snap
My monster high dolls have never had problems with articulation and ive had them for years but i agree with the small pieces falling off sucks i mught as well glue them on
Kids DO care if the dolls have articulation. I remember when I was a kid they were my favourite dolls to play with BECAUSE they could pose.
Same!!!
I remember that i also changed the bodies of dolls for articulated ones, because I liked their faces
Hi I wanted to reply to your comment because both our user starts with Linda
I had a gymnast Barbie and I didn't like her as much because the joints look ugly. I always had put her in long sleeves and pants to cover them.
And they can be life like and flip around 😻
I always played more with the articulated dolls.
Yeah i liked monster high since i was 5 and i only have a reboot dracilora doll
Maybe it's because I'm an adult, but all toys currently on the market seem so uninspired? It's the same, glittery, sparkly rainbow-poop every time. I don't blame current kids for not wanting to play with toys, I probably would've gotten bored really fast with everything that's available in stores right now (not to mention the fact that, at least in my country, physical stores are disappearing rapidly, which makes toy shopping a lot less exciting anyway).
@@Iroh12345 No, my mom says that current toys are boring and she was born in the 60s.
Articulation adds so much to a toy. My sisters who are 9 don't like inarticulated dolls either.
@@vandapereira895 Same for me. I loved bending knees and I changed her clothes and did her hair over and over.

I think molded hair is for action figures not a fashion doll.
Agreed.
100% agreed
Snaaaaap! (We were thinking it but you went ahead and said it!)
my 7 year old sister HATES when dolls have no articulation.
and i remember when i was young, getting frustrated when a doll wouldnt pose like i wanted them to because they lacked articulaton.
i understand when companies have to stick to smaller budgets and stuff, but if im gonna pay $15 or more for a doll I WANT ARTICULATION!
I think it is bc the faces where weird. I bought a doll head lot and a snap star head was in there and her glass eyes where crooked:(
i wish they would give Barbie thicker or more hair.. compared to other dolls ,she barely has any..
And I love the hair that way, really. It looks so real that way.
right, barbie dolls now are so bald.
@@lovelydolltime8006 i agree .. they don't make them like they used to :(
I love monster high dolls because of their uniqueness.
This. All the hair on my Frankie and Abbey dolls are yellow now even though taking care of them :/
I really hope they bring back kayla, lea, teresa and midge i miss the times were you could collect 3 or more dolls of the line
teresa is still alive and kicking, but i get what you mean about having lines with 3 or 4 dolls. those were the fun days.
I think midge is still selling
@@antoverlord no?
I would lovveeeeeeeeeeee to see grace return
Teresa was always my favourite. Her face is prettier than Barbie imo. Shani was one of my favourites too. She has such a beautiful face mould. I loved Midge coz she had cute freckles. I love Kira too. They used her face for Polynesian Barbie and she is one of my favourite dolls. Oh and PJ is one of the cutest faces!!
All my Barbies are stored at my dad's house. I really want to look at them now.
I think the fashionista line would be much better if each doll were a new friend for Barbie
I dont see how that would change the quality???😐
@Altoid Bazingá i want them to be like 2009, good fashion and nice articulation and names like sporty and arsty but with different bodies faces and skin colors
They should also have the 2009 - 2014 fashionista quality with the posability.
Mattel is trying to stay away from putting names on each Fashionista doll, to encourage creativity.
@@scarlettcrypt8972 bleh
I grew up with Barbie and her figure never influenced me, as far as my body shape goes, she has been thru a rough patch as far as changing her body thru the ages; she has tried but you still can't make everybody happy... I admire her still to this day ( I'm 41 now, lol ). I do love your videos - keep it up 👍!
Not to mention her "proportions" need to account for all the clothing layering..... Why her neck was so long..... At some point, she came with a ton of scarves.....
Exactly. The people who complain about her body are probably the same Karens that complained about the pregnant Midge doll from 2002.
I once read that if a human had Barbie's proportions that individual would have trouble physically holding their head up.
@Marcelle This is why I'm glad I was born in the 2000s. I feel bad for the kids born in today's world.
I had a friend when I was younger who wasn't aloud to own any dolls or play with my dolls because of their proportions
I 100-percent agree
Bratz always been my favourite doll line
One problem with bend and snap legs is they get sticky over time, have noticed this with my Hasbro Jem dolls for the 80's
I do remember having a Ken with rooted hair, and after a couple years his hair was a mess lol he looked like he really needed a shower and lay off the drugs.
OMFG 🤣🤣🤣
Barbie is my all time favorite doll, but I have to agree that most of the doll in the past 7 years really disappointed me... I’ve been collecting Barbie for over 20 years, the best RECENt era had to be 2007 to 2014 especially 2008 and 2009 when a Barbie were celebrating her 50th anniversary, the movies were also amazing. Everything after that went downhill.
honestly, barbie after 2014 literally just went downhill from there imo.
Best Barbie era was 80s and 90s. I'm a collector and they are easily the prettiest with the most attention to detail and beautiful boxes etc.
TwistedBarbie the 80 and 90s for sure I meant recent era tho
@@Diordollies. Same. 2015 and later dolls are made extremely cheaply and don't have the rubber bendy legs. :'(
Marcelle ikr!
I just get the ones with a design I like xD
Edit: forgot to add that THEY GOTTA STOP WITH THE BLIND BAG DOLLS.
Most of my EAH dolls have glue hair now...I've been able to get rid of most of it but it's still not the same.
The legs and the weight of the dolls I completely agree with you. It was the first thing I noticed when picking up our granddaughters barbies, they felt cheap and not nice to hold. I'd definitely pay a little more if they would return her to her old, better self.
2015 and later Barbies feel like something you'd buy at the Dollar Tree.
I really love bratz and I hope they make them again

‘Bratz are irrelevant’ that really got me like: 😵💀

Stef Dems i have to agree with that😕
i’d say they’ve _become_ irrelevant, and it is very true that they flop harder every reboot. the early 2000’s Bratz will forever be iconic but tbh every Bratz from the last decade has been quite tragic. the 2018 collector dolls were eh okay, but 2015 was just sooo bad
As much as I love Bratz, it's the truth. They haven't been interesting since 2009 with the exception of the Chic Mystique line, in my opinion. Their reboots get worse and worse. I wish they'd put real effort into making quality collector dolls that we don't mind spending the extra cash on.
Same I disagree with that unpopular opinion.
I have Monster High dolls and they're some of the most well made dolls, I agree the joints can get loose over time but I disagree with the yellowing in the sun because the sun bleaches any and everything
Some dolls get yellowing if they are put always in the sun, Draculaura spectra and cathrine ( the white cat) are known to get yellowing.
Not EVERYTHING from the last seven years sucks.
Patricia Yunuen Castro yeah made to move is excellent
Yeah I totally agree! Thanks for watching

the tech thing is on lazy parents, kid NEED toys to develop imagination and motor skills. hadning your child an ipad is bad parenting
Agree! Hate dressing the click legs.
and if the doll is old her legs will start to get sticky and gross.
Did you seriously just call out 7 year old me for chewing on my doll's hands and legs?

Thanks for explaining what that stuff is... i never knew...👍
It's not just kids that buy them! Plenty of us adult collectors out there.
Kids do play with dolls for more then five years! Never is anyone too old for dolls
Same !
Same only real complaint is the glue that oozes through the skull like you said.
to get glue seepage out of a dolls hair, i heard goo gone, baby powder, and oxy powder works.
I've got a couple of 70s Barbies and they're just fine.
Just imagine how cool the Fashionistas would be with articulation In the knees, elbows, hands ankles, and waist! They would be the best, most diverse dolls out there!
Back then they had articulation (not made to move) but not really that diverse
I’m totally agree with you
I NEED BENDABLE KNEES, when i hold my budget black Barbie doll i can feel the cheap, i found that stiff legs so boring
I LOVE when fashion dolls has long hair, but i can accept short hair too, what matters for me is the hair quality, i want soft hair to touch, not a cheap fiber
I am agreee with you that black Barbies are rare, today i went on eBay to see which were and were few, so yes, black Barbie dolls are rare, especially here in Italy, and it’s not a good thing
There's loads of black Barbies on eBay. I'm always looking at them.
I feel like Mattel should do an actual 16 inch doll line, instead of once in a while gimmicks.
Totally gree with you there. So expensive to not even know if you like what you bought ? No thanks
Totally agree but I do like the spin off omg dolls because they have quality to them
Totally agree
I wish companies can re-release old doll lines for newer collectors
I am collecting Monster High dolls, they did a few adjusted bodies before the reboot, but the amount of detail and how much work was placed in each doll being a individual. It is a fuel for why i love them, but because monster high is in limbo. I miss the dolls and particular designers who worked on them plus the original message the dolls had
Bend and snap knees were the best!
And what would you want more from the Integrity dolls?
Serves you right for being a fan of Star Lord/Chris Pratt.
Thats not the fault of the mold tho-thats the fault of the company not accomindating to said mold
Theres been contervisary with wheelchair dolls unable to fit into doll houses too, thats not the fault of the doll its the fault of the company
Implying they should stop making them because the products are made for skinny able bodied dolls isnt gonna help, we should be instead calling out companys for being lazy and not putting in effort to fix it
This is coming from someone whos fat also
Children give-up toys by around eight years of age.
The comment about Bratz being irrelevant hit me like a bus.
unpopular opinion: the “Life in the Dreamhouse” era of Fashionistas was quite bad. the only remarkable thing about them was the articulation [which wasn’t even as good as the very first Fashionistas]
Bratz will never be irrelevant
I kinda agree about the Monster High opinion... It's really upsetting when I look at my dolls which are in perfect condition but their heads start to yellow because of the stupid glue. 💔 And there's not much you can do about this...
can’t you wash the head and fix it? I haven’t but I feel like ive seen people fix it
Okay, I’m going to put my opinion on all these doll opinions, so this comment might be a bit long.
I agree with most of this except I personally don’t think Barbie could pull of a pixie cut it would just look like a kid chopped her especially since Mattel puts minimal effort int her hair styles now a day I used to love back in the day when the collector dolls would have like elaborate updos lol
i only like the older barbie movie dolls
60s through 90s barbies are so much better looking than 00s to current. I grew up with 00s barbies and thought (the face molds especially) looked more boring every year.
I dont know why they would get rid of what little articulation barbies had with the snap knees. The only problem I ever had with them, is that the rubbery material can be a bit sticky.
Do have ariels daughter melody from return to the sea movie. She such a rare doll to find
My unpopular opinion is that Mattel should bring back the bend and snap knees and rubbery legs on Barbies and make her feet bigger to stand, and make dolls clothes more detailed like Fashion Fever Era.
And Mattel also make Ken dolls' hair rooted
a child of the 70's.
I bought a colour reveal Barbie purely because of her pixie cut hairstyle. Long hair on every doll is boring.
I am going to be 15 and I still play with dolls
I’ve always been a bratz fan and the best ones were the early release lines the new ones aren’t as good :/
True , Barbie has had some pretty disappointing lines, but collector dolls are still high quality and extraordinary...but yes, articulation and removable clothes are the best when it comes to the other lines!
Some of the early monster high dolls where floppy. I own a lot of monster high.
My first monster high doll I got 7 years ago and she still works well
i think LOL OMG doll faces are ugly,,,, their outfits/hair are gorgeous and super aesthetically pleasing, but their faces are just bad.
This is just me, but apparently went I was itty bitty the sound the bend and snap knees made scared me haha
I love your channel I'm in love with dolls your content is really good
Bratz dolls were kind of ugly and Bratzillaz looked wayyy better.
Love your channel so much. Keep up the great work 👏🏻🥰
I finally found a better quality barbie doll for my daughter. The reproduction of the 1974 olympic barbie is great. She loves her.
I have a bunch of monster high dolls and every single one of them has some manufacturing error. And the glue problem is soooo rampant, literally i washed their hair in lukewarm water and now every single one of them just has glue in their hair with no way to fix it
-They should bring back Tara Lynn, Jazzie and all versions of Todd (Tutti's twin, Tracy's husband and Stacie's twin)
-The Dreamtopia line is unnecessary and overrated.
When i was a child, i liked to play with my dolls and make them do stuff
The Doll that had more articulation had the best boyfriend (my brother's Max Steel) and the best furniture becouse she could actually sit on it... meanwhile the dolls with less articulation were the "servant" and the "background characthers" and would stay home while the more articulated doll climbed montains with her boyfriend
I saw people put bratz heads on omg bodies and it looks fantastic to me 😍😍😍 so much more sense
My unpopular doll opinions
• LOL/OMG and Lalaloopsy dolls are *not* creepy. They are unique approaches to the fashion doll and I like their kawaii aesthetics.
• There need to be more made to move dolls of "strong" female characters or female superheroes. In my opinion the DC Superhero Girls and the Luisa doll from Encanto should've had tons of articulation for action poses as these characters are always "on the move."
• Flavas (2002) are not ripoffs of Bratz and are *HIGHLY* underrated
• The Disney Princess line from Mattel should be more diverse.
My monster high dolls have never had problems with articulation and ive had them for years but i agree with the small pieces falling off sucks i mught as well glue them on
C'mon guys
These are not that bad
It's just our opinions
I love Barbie 💖
idk if this is unpopular or not but i really don't like it when a doll's eyes are looking to the side
Love this topic.
