My 2,5 year old prefers Barbie made to move doll over any other Barbie. And clothes!she spends her day changing the dolls clothes. Kids absolutely prefer articulation and clothes.
As a kid, I always got so frustrated when I couldn't get my barbies to pose the way I wanted them to. Also, my favorite Barbie sets contained lots of little things, realistic details and the barbies had multiple layers of removable clothing on. Screw the whole 'kids don't care about articulation and clothing'-thing, that was all I wanted as a kid.
“kids don’t want articulation” is a transparent excuse. They just wants to produce cheap cheap dolls that parents will buy without thinking about it. Kids are totally disappointed and bored by stiff, dull dolls. I always tell parents, don’t buy your little kids cheap dolls from the dollar store. You’re teaching your kids that dolls are garbage.
My biggest issue is if you're going to create dolls with flat feet, at least make more shoe styles for them to wear! It bugs me when I dress a doll in a gown and the only shoes that fit are athletic or hiking shoes!
I remember when the more articulated flat-footed Barbies came out in the 90s, all they had were sneakers. And I hated it! When they finally came out with shoe packs for them that had some cute dressy shoes I was ecstatic. And they still weren't that good looking but gosh were they better
i know im randomly asking but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
Same Barbie to me was older when I was a kid. I always thought she was in her 20’s. Now she’s a teen. They even say she is in the new series. Plus I always thought she was an adult because she took care of her sisters there was never a parent. When I was a kid though I always pretend Barbie was a mom and Kelly was her daughter.
If you look for Sam and Mickey's Channel here on RUclips they came up with a hilarious background story on why Barbie calls them sisters but she is actually the mom! XD
I also always thought of Barbie as more mature and in her twenties. Nowadays when they try and make her like a teenager in the newer movies, she seems like a different character.
They honestly cut off her friends and kept it's going with her and her sisters and Ken like we don't see Raquel Nikki Ryan Midge in their own box anymore it's like mattel is to scared to move away from Barbie and try a new line where barbie isn't the star for once
It'd only make sense tho, since barbie was already popular, mattel had to make pretty(or even prettier) designs for her friends. Coz if barbie would always have the best designs, that'd only lead to her always getting bought, leaving the friends stuck on toy shelves.💁
Unpopular opinion: I dislike people who made a big deal out of the moment when Barbie started to have flat feet. She wore flat shoes since the 80s for sure (maybe even earlier). Just because she didn't have flat feet didn't mean she only wore high heels and supported that idea. Also I dislike people forgetting that Barbie had dolls of colour since the 60s.
Black barbies always felt like Barbie accessories rather than the main attraction to me. Unlike with Bratz where dolls of different colours share the same status within the brand.
My issue as a kid was the flat shoes never stayed on the pointed feet! They always fell off! I like flat shoes too but the dolls feet just weren't designed for them. I always put them on my teen skippers.
When I was a little girl, what pulled me to the Fashionistas line was the fact that they had joints and pretty clothes. I remember the flash Fashionista game that was about posing them for a magazine shoot, spent hours. Also dolls wearing high heels didn't affect me as a kid. All the dolls wore high heels and I grew into a ballet pumps and flip flops kind of girl with no animosity against doll heels.
Kids for sure want removable clothes and articulation. Changing the clothes of a doll is a HUGE part of the appeal. Also, Mattel’s quality is hitting the floor because they’re scared to lose money. If the doll is cheap to produce, you won’t lose as much money when the doll flops. But they don’t understand that people will buy the dolls if they were made well!
I think my favorite recent Holiday Barbies were the Peace, Hope, and Love dolls. The doll in blue was definitely the prettiest. There was also an exclusive redheaded version of the one in aqua just for K-mart that I want.
I prefer Ever After High for the stories and characters and fashions and webisodes because they appeal to me more... with the dolls, I prefer Monster High's faces so much because the EAH girls all have round circular faces (I remember someone describing their faces as being whacked with a frying pan) where as in MH the girls could have face mold variants and it makes doll customization a lot more fun.
It’s funny, I also disliked the EAH dolls when they first came out, for the same reason. I remember someone referring to them as having “pancake faces”.
@@dinosaur___7209 I don't dislike the dolls at all, I just think that the variety of face shapes for the monster high dolls makes them fun to customize with. I love the EAH characters so much and the webisodes but the downside is that the dolls have the same head shapes.
I remember playing with dolls up till 10 being absolutely normal too, lol. Barbie was always early 20s in our role play as kids and we used Action Man as her boyfriend cause he was more buff than Ken! edit: My daughter was so happy to hear someone doesn't like Frozen. I took her and 3 of her friends to the movie and she was so disappointed!
Amateurs must be designing Barbie clothes because they really have looked like crap for a long time now, nothing like Fashion Fever or Fashion Avenue. Totally agree Quality has hit the floor!! Lol perhaps we to to protest Mattel now.
saying kids dont like articulation or removable clothes is such a bold fat lie LMAO i remember when i was a kid i always hated (HATED) dolls w painted tops and always wished the arms moved. so mattel are literally just lying lol
i remember as a little girl my favorite dolls were ALWAYS the ones with the most articulation. even now almost 20 years later i clearly remember my favorite barbie was fully articulated. the "kids dont want articulation" argument is ridiculous!
I was told it was because the names were less popular & made the brand seem dated, but yet I'm not seeing a whole lot of Barbies & Skippers walking around these days. Since they are too iconic for the brand Mattel can't change them.
They keep trying to make the product "fresh" and "relatable." Name changes are one of the easiest (and laziest) ways to do this. Doesn't cost much money to do compared to actual mold changes, and it has a chance to get the parent to jump and purchase simply because they can't recall if their kid already has one of these... smart, really, to follow generational popular name trends. Seems silly, but kids are very focused on "cool" names. Parents are too.
I also have one. The only best line of EAH is Spring Unsprung. They had that bitchy Monster High look, which I wish was incorporated more into the EAH dolls. I also wish they had more makeup.
You hit the nail on the head regarding Barbie dolls. I've been buying Barbie's for my daughter and I was shocked at the low quality. My daughter enjoys playing with them but it makes me sad she won't experience the same high quality dolls I had in the 1980s.
Yes, the original Bratz dolls are EVERYTHING I loved those more than Barbie growing up. The fashion and makeup was everything, and I liked their movies too. Now I prefer barbie because I don't know what they did with Bratz but I agree with the Bratz opinion. And Bratz was about the whole Group you got to know all of them. With Barbie it's really all about her, she has her friends but I don't know much about them.
The BMR dolls are really weird and yeah it used to be Kelly and now it's Chelsea ! I love both Monster high and Ever after high, they're exciting and beautiful dolls !
Monster high was just so much more creative! They would incorporate so many fun ideas and clever designs while ever after high just felt like another Barbie where they relied on being pretty and having lovely gowns and the same things you could find on any doll. Nothing made them stand out aside from maybe their color scheme and characters which is probably why it didn’t last long. I do love the dolls a lot but it just never felt the same as monster high and lacked so much personality and uniqueness.
I love eah but they kinda look the same... like they are always wearing dresses, heels, and they have like, one black doll?? Monster high had the whitest (spectra) doll and the darkest doll (catty), like the diversity was so amazing!
I agree. Monster High are fantastic dolls. They have the most beautiful faces. They are so unique and creative. The design is so great. All the details are thought about. EAH are beautiful and detailed as well but they don't have that originality and uniqueness that made Monster High so special.
I would definitely love more articulated Barbies, I recently started buying Disney Store Disney Princess dolls, and I love the articulation they have, it makes them a lot more fun to play with. ( I’m actually planning to do a little photoshoot with them.) As for the high heeled shoes, I actually don’t mind it so much that they have flats, I agree that Cinderella should definitely have heels, but the others, I’m okay with the flats, I guess it’s mostly cause I myself can’t wear high heels. I agree, I forgive a lot of sins cause I love the Barbie as the princess and the pauper ! 😁 Now, as for Bratz being better then Barbie, I honestly cannot say whether I agree with that or not, cause my mom Never allowed me to own any Bratz dolls, so I’ve never actually played with one, my mom didn’t like the way they looked.
Ok, the BMR1959 line is exactly what I've always asked for: fashionistas with mtm bodies and outfits with at least two pieces with no printed on details, and accesories. And their outfits having that big logo all over the place is because they replicated the logomania trend that big brands popularized a couple years ago. I dig the idea of Barbie having her own street wear line, but I guess the name is so unnecessarily long. I would at least go with BMR59 lol
I CAN CONFIRM MOST OF THESE THINGS: I am slightly younger then many people, children love articulation, and BARBIE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FASHION DOLL, give her clothes!
I was always so frustrated with painted on tops as a child. You wanted to change the clothes but it ended up looking bad so I don't know which child would prefer it. Removable clothes make it more fun
6:13 as a kid literally half the fun was styling the dolls with different clothes 😭and judging from how there are literally MGA clothes sets solds without dolls, or dolls with many clothes, I imagine that's the case for most doll-loving young kids even now so hard agree with you basically, on this and on articulation. also articulation was also really great for role playing so yeah.
I agree with one of your posters. Bratz had some colorism issues. I find it interesting as Mattel tries to be inclusive the quality of the brand has decreased. No one seems to talk about that. The flat feet versus high heels. It's all too much. Dolls don't dictate how children see themselves. Its a toy. Parents, teachers, media, friends influence children. They put away toys by a certain age unless they don't. No one is becoming a doctor because an inanimate object influenced them. Or we would have adults runnings around brandishing swords saying I have the power.
I grew up with the newer Barbie dolls, and I would get so annoyed when I would put the play dough food I made in barbies hand, but when I tryed to feed her she could not put her hand to her mouth. PLEASE BARBIE GIVE MORE DOLLS ARTICULATION!🫤🥲
Also, their necks were constantly breaking. The hard plastic bodies were garbage and their arms and hands would always be in the same position.

Law student: yes part of the reason is cost but actually an even greater issue is that the articulated limbs create choking hazards. Huge product liability issue. Has nothing to do with what children like but rather protection from suit of oarents. The bigger the parts, the less number of parts, the better. Bratz are superior. They were on their way to being iconic but injunctions will not only snatch a crown but decimate it.
About the kids not liking articulation, as someone who owned mostly Barbies as a kid, my opinion is valid. I had only one Barbie doll that had great articulation, I simply found her more fun to play with because it was much easier for her to sit down, unlike all my other Barbies that didn't have knee joints. All of us doll fans know that the reason Mattel does this is that they are cheap.
I remember when I was younger, if I had a doll with articulation, I would pinch my fingers in the limb on accident 😂 But still, I have always loved dolls with more articulation.
When I was younger I definitely preffered bratz. There were so many movies, and the dolls were so much cooler. There was always a character that was someone's favourite. My favourite was Jade.
I always loved dolls that had fluid movement. As a child, most of my Barbies were the ones with pose-ability. I even used to snap the knees and elbows of the ones that weren't posable. My mom eventually stopped buying me the ones that weren't more flexible because she got tired of fixing the others. To this day, I'm still the same way. I adore BJDs and have always wanted to make my own. If ever I can afford it, I'm making them for my future children.
The reason why EAH wasn’t as popular as monster high, in my opinion, was because of the faces. At times their head looks disproportionate, some dolls look like they’re forcing a smile and also they just seem like they all had the same face mold. And the face mold was just so basic looking. I honestly didn’t think that they were made under the same company as Monster high. I thought it was a diff company copying MH’s concept. That was a major reason why they didn’t appeal to me. On the other hand Monster high was more diverse in terms of face molds.
This was such a refreshing video 👏🏼 There were so many things I completely agreed with. Sometimes I feel doll collectors get too caught up in the hype or the new doll/line at the time and are not really being critical of what product they’re putting their money into. We should be asking for more articulation & better quality in the dolls especially with the prices going up. And yes to EAH & Bratz being the superior dolls 🙌🏼 & why? Easily because of QUALITY & details! 💯
My unpopular opinion is Barbie Fashion Fever is much better than Barbie Fashionistas. They're both have quality but the Fashion Fever dolls are much better even with less articulation plus the dolls are not always dressed in pinks and purples unlike the Fashionistas line.
At this point i think the Fashionista line needs to rebrand, they don't look fashionable at all and don't have any extra clothing to begin with. Just a plain doll with one outfit so boring!
I agree with the whole thing about Barbie being older. To me growing up it made sense that she would be at least 25 due to all the jobs she has had over the years many of which requires some kind of a degree & being that she's been a college cheerleader and graduated several times I always assumed that she was in her 20's especially because of some of her fashions seemed more mature then what I've seen teenage girls would wear growing up. To this day that's how I still pretty much see her as & all of my characters in my Barbie collection are at least 21 & up. Now in regards to the BMR dolls I believe the inspiration is more western urban 90's fashion. I'm from NYC & a 90's baby myself so as soon as I saw it I totally knew what they were going for but I understand how many might feel especially if they've never really grew up surrounded by that kind of aesthetic but to kinda give you an idea of what they were going for I'd suggest watching a few clips from shows like In living color, Martin, Living Single, family matters & the fresh prince of bel air just to name a few because theses shows in particular were & still are extremely popular especially amongst the black community and influenced this kind of fashion/style. I personally only got the one you have with braids because that's the one I liked the most but will admit that the others aren't really a priority for me to get but still appreciate that they took this approach because it's really outside the box in comparison to what they usually do.
I gotta agree with the articulation, I remember as a kid I had the original fashionistas and I liked to play with them the most since it felt like I could really use them the most
Bratz dolls were so creepy because their feet came off. My daughter changed their feet often and eventually the dolls wouldn't hold their feet on. That was my big beef with the Bratz dolls.
Finally somebody mentions Novi stars!!! For a while I thought I was the only one who even heard of them. Im not a big collector, i'm only 18 and don't have much money to spare but I was obsessed with them because they all had so many cool original ideas and something about the designs always hit the right spot for me. I miss seeing them in stores so much because it was the only doll line I was up to date with. I wish they'd come back. Same with the old monster high and ever after high, the dolls I see in stores now just feel so bland compared the the dolls I grew up with.
I wish the modern Disney princess dolls shared the same body as Barbie. In the 90s, all of the Disney princess dolls were able to share clothes with Barbie, since Matell had ownership of the dolls back then. Also. I don't care for the quality of modern Barbie dolls because they are cheaper and easier to break. Even the Barbies in the early 2000s had better quality. I'm not sure what happened, but I don't like it. I wasn't even aware of how cheap the quality was until I started buying Barbies for my daughter.
The toy department I worked for always had the problem of clearencing out the diverse barbie dolls more than the standard. I did work in a town that is predominantly white but it's sad that only the standard barbie tended to sell.
When I was little I wanted Barbie's diverse friends and they were never on the shelves in NH :( But now that I'm grown I can pay heaps of money for them on ebay
I loved articulated dolls and removable clothes-part of the fun is giving them new outfits and collecting lots of different pieces! I love Midge, her red hair and freckles were so pretty!
Articulation is soo important for play! I remember when Barbie introduced the articulated play line dolls, and I was mind blown and found a new love for dolls. I think that’s one big reason I started buying Liv dolls more when they came out cuz they were ALL articulated (and I loved the wigs & fashions🤣)
for me it's almost impossible to make an opinion on how well a doll works for play because when i was a kid all i did was take their clothes off and put them back on, or maybe brush the hair. sometimes if i was really feeling the creative juices flowing i'd have my barbies kiss but that was it lol
I 🖤 ever after high. It was so adorable and the outfits were so freaking cool. The Mad Hatter girl had high heels that were shaped like teacups! & I also hated princess and the pauper, but mostly because my sister used to watch it over and over again.
As a young girl I love bratz dolls they catch my eye and loved to collect them and play with them and I even got them as a gifts and was really excited. I do agree the bratz dolls had better quality clothes I loved how many Accessories they had on them.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: dolls are just dolls and should be used for fun and not taken seriously. As a Puerto Rican little girl, I always knew Barbie’s body proportions were not realistic and her skin was as beautiful as Nikki’s (or Christie’s) or Teresa’s skin color! If the doll came with skimpy or more reserved clothes, I loved her regardless. Still do, really ❤️
4:55 Nikki is actually a different character! She's originally one of Skipper's friends, so I always imagined her age being between Skipper and Barbie, similar to Summer in her original depiction :) 9:33 I'm literally the exact opposite haha, EAH has never really appealed to me because I'm not big into princessy stuff, moreso all things multicoloured and wild... Also diversity of characters! I also LOVED Novi Stars and did my own take on a reboot for it a wee while ago! 11:50 Same here! Barbie was always on her 20s for me... 12:45 Nope not just the songs haha, it has some of the best characterisation and talent behind it too!
I agree with all of these! Except maybe the heel thing.. I'm same age as you, and when I was a child, I had Esmeralda doll with articulated knees and elbows. Loved that doll! Kids not liking articulated bodies is total crap.
Me tooooo! I loooooooveeeeee Ever After High more than Monster High? But, I love both lines. I loved their animation much more, their faces and fashion. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
When I was a kid, articulated fashion play dolls were like nonexistent. So when I got a bratz doll that had articulated arms I lost my mind! Up to that point, I didn't know dolls could move like that and she instantly became my favorite! So yes! KIDS WANT ARTICULATION!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Very nice video, keep making more like this 😄 Well, I agree with your unpopular opinions, but I disagree regarding to EAH and MH, since MH is my ultimate favorite doll line, it's my biggest doll collection 😜. I remember being so excited when they were released, it's always resonated a lot with me, I love their concept, style, and how different, unique they are. I've never really been a Bratz fan, always liked Barbie more. But I saw a while ago the Bratzillaz, guess they were released when MH was trending. I love their glass eyes, I like their fashions too. From what I saw, these dolls look to be of good quality, I would buy them. Was thinking, maybe a little part of the reason they cheapen the quality is because of parents. I've seen many parents' reviews on sites and to my surprise, many were complaining about naked dolls, like, children take the dolls' clothes off and then it's naked around the house, so so many of the parents get relieved if the doll has molded on fashions. But that's so... 😅 It's so much better articulated dolls with actual clothes, not painted on outfits. ✌😉
For those who don’t get Bratz. The reason why I LOVE bratz is because they are so INCLUSIVE, every line will always include characters with different skin tones, eye and hair colours. Literally anyone could find a bratz doll that resembles them. What I love is how diverse they are and how they appreciate different cultures and countries in their fashion. That’s why I personally love the genie magic line, each girl wore henna tattoos and embraced fashion trends worn in south asia. Even the Tokyo a go go collection showcased Japanese street wear. Their like a fantasy you’re not meant to see them as REAL people I mean they made babyz which could ride on motorcycles, they’re meant to be fun. I love how they always bring quality with their dolls, there’s always additional outfits, jewellery, accessories and charms that you could use personally. They always gave 100% in their packaging, play sets and media, even when their popularity decreased.
Loved this upload, and I'm SO glad you brought up Novi Stars! At the time when they released I was 14 or 15 and I was a bit ashamed to ask for dolls due to some behaviors exhibited by my parents. But I wish I didn't care at the time because now it's so hard to get the later releases in the US, and I remember when the final four were still available on Ebay for less than $60. I recently got my first two, Una and Sila for a really great deal! I really hope you upload a Novi Stars specific video one day. Keep up the great content!
I actually love the newer fashionista dolls! My favorite part has always been the clothes and the clothes on them are so modern and simple, like something I would actually wear! Hate the overly pink outfits and giant gaudy dresses. Although I only use the dolls to display clothes, made to move are for playing and posing.
I also like the fashionistas now. But not because of clothes. They are cheap and unimaginative, evidently design for quick mass production. But tge face molds, and hairstyles, figures, and even footwear... They are very interesting. The dolls are sturdy, good to play with, and change clothes. I took to repainting the shoes and accessories, quite an interesting result got I.
I agree with the articulation/painted on clothes. The painted on clothes is so bad, as a collector it's put me off getting a couple dolls I've seen, I don't want to add that to my collection. I also agree with preferring Ever After to Monster High. Don't get me wrong, I knew of Monster High first, and have two Draculaura dolls which I love to bits, and two cheaper ones, Klawdeen and Gigi Grant (both of whom suffer from bad glue seepage), but Ever After High appealed more to me, and I have got most of the Spring Unsprung collection. Briar Rose and Holly O'Hair are my grail dolls. My unpopular opinion is: Hairdorables is better than LOL dolls. What I love about the hairdorables is the hair is amazing. I just recently got my hands on the whole Hairmazing wave one collection and love them to bits. I've yet to get an LOL Surprise doll, but I'd love to get my hands on the Class Prez doll off of Amazon.
It’s so funny seeing people’s reactions to the BMR1959 line who aren’t from California because...people DO dress really similarly to them here. I went to the release of them in LA and people walking by were wearing clothes so similar to them.
When Nikki was first brought out she was introduced as Christie's sister but she later on replaced Christie (they used to have the same face mold), I think it was because Christie was critisised for being "too white" and was accused of follwoing too much of the white beauty standard, mattel wanted to get rid of her with the contrivercy, which is a shame. And so does Kelly and midge, the kelly pooping and midge giving brith sets caused huge issues at the time, mattel wanted to get rid of them to cover their dark history.
First, I’m with you on Ever After High. I love Monster High, but I’ve always been more into fairytales and the story with its characters was more intriguing to me with the Royals and Rebels. But I always hoped for that Monster High/ Ever After High crossover! And on the topic of articulation, I always played with my more articulated Barbies more, they were always the heroes in my play time stories since they could do more stuff (and it was more realistic to me since they could do more poses) And funny story: I was working a summer camp activity where kids had to pull a mystery item out of a bag for an improv game and one little girl pulled out one of my older articulated Barbies I put in and she was in AWE of her articulation. She just wanted to play with her and make her do different poses. So yes, kids today LOVE articulated dolls, it was honestly so cute her reaction 😂
I collect vintage and mod Barbie and I love so much the closed toe shoes and spikes high heels. So when I get an outfit with flat shoes, I'm like "why closed toe would have been better". But I love Francie shoes, her feet are flat and she has done nice shoes. I am not into articulations because it wasn't a thing for vintage dolls, except for the bendable legs. So I am used to have dolls without articulations. I think it's also for me they are just modelling the clothes, so I don't mind if they can't sit well or pose their arms.
I watched your video where you were explaining to to the audience about you fascination with dolls...and I have to say this...don't ever apologize to anyone about who you are and what you like to do...take it from an older person..you are a fabulous wonderful human being and you have the right to do anything you want to do...I love dolls and I ever still play with them even at my age...you keep on keeping on...you are wonderful and I love you!
I was kind of into dolls as a kid, but nowhere near to the level I am now. This is for several reasons: 1. DIVERSITY! As a little brown girl I wanted to be white like Barbie when I grew up. I didn't have dolls with my skin tone. 2. ARTICULATION! My favourite doll was this Mulan doll with the black horse from the 90s. Because she had articulation!!! 3. VARIETY! I love how many popular doll options are available now. Growing up it was just Barbie and Bratz. In addition, I love all the different styles and fashions available. In addition, many are in the same price range which is great!
Tbh my scene or the old barbie fashionistas were amazing, I played with them a lotttt, I am a doll collector but I don't play with the dolls anymore but I played with the ones I have until 15-17
OMG! YOU ARE THE FIRST DOLL LOVER LIKE ME WHO DISLIKES PRINCESS & PAUPER AND FROZEN! People often told me I have no taste, and how on Earth I can dislike those... Pauper has great songs and awesome playsets, but its one of the worst classic movies in my opinion. And for Frozen... except Let It Go, I can't stand even 1% of it Molded tops are disliked by everyone, but I assume Mattel went for that to save more cash + aiming those at 3-6 yrs old. They also have so much competition now, so thats why they make Dreamtopia, Fashionista, I Can Be etc - for different age groups. To me, all Holiday dolls (even 90s ones) were ugly and I never liked these giant-Christmas-decor dresses Bratz vs Barbie - I did play with Bratz, I don't hate them, but Barbie always owned my heart much more
I remember when I was a kid, I loved all my Barbies, and I didn't mind if some were less articulated than others, but my absolute favorites were my Ice Skating Barbie/Ken duo and Working Out Christie because they had elbow & knee articulation so I could pose them more. So yeah, for kids over the age of five they definitely do prefer articulation! And I also prefer EAH over MH, but I also have liked fairy tales and the whimsical aesthetic more than the gothic darker aura of MH.
I LOVE your whisper about the Holiday Barbie dresses! It's like you're trying to keep from insulting any dolls in your room that might hear you. That's adorable!
I know what u mean about flat feet on dolls, it just makes the dolls less attractive. For the scale of these pretty little things, pointed feet gives them this streamlined aesthetic. It can b offputting to have a doll wit a smooth n elegant profile that suddenly have appendages that just jet out, interrupting the statuesque appeal of these lovely ornaments which is essentially what dolls r, small beautiful statues that r to b visually admired. Happy collecting, cheers from Chicago +_0
I myself didn't know about articulation until I experienced an articulated doll and once we got into Rainbow High, I fell in love with all the articulation. Binge watching your vids again. Great content.
I think that even little kids don’t want to be slapped in the face with bright colors and pandering. And most of these new dolls were made so you could give them a boat load of cash, only to get a disappointment at your door. Made by Oyamada-Chan team
When i was a kid i hated how i couldn’t make Barbie dolls do any good poses like mayeb hugging! They CAN’t do that with stiff arms! So when monster high came out. I was SO HAPPY
The princess and the pauper had some eyebrow raising moments(the advisor going after the queen).I don't care for the Bratz dolls but the cartoon series were funny as heck
I'm 47 yrs old and have been collecting dolls since birth. I always preferred articulation and removable clothing. Taking off the clothes and trying on other stuff was always step one of getting a new doll. I even cut the clothing off of dolls if it wasn't meant to be removed. I think toy companies forget what it was like to actually play....and my Barbies were all in their 20s :)
My 2,5 year old prefers Barbie made to move doll over any other Barbie. And clothes!she spends her day changing the dolls clothes.
Kids absolutely prefer articulation and clothes.
Same! I wish Mattel would make more of them available for the public instead of collector dolls that cost an arm and a leg.
MGA is turning them out ONCE AGAIN lol
Agreed
As a kid, I always got so frustrated when I couldn't get my barbies to pose the way I wanted them to. Also, my favorite Barbie sets contained lots of little things, realistic details and the barbies had multiple layers of removable clothing on. Screw the whole 'kids don't care about articulation and clothing'-thing, that was all I wanted as a kid.
Me too. I spend hours playing with their clothes.
Same here
i preferred monster high WAY over barbies for this reason. they had more hair, were more articulated and had better accessories
Same queen
Same I did that too
“kids don’t want articulation” is a transparent excuse.
I hated playing with dolls that didn't have articulation as a kid
Exactly, and that's why I prefer Barbie dolls made prior to the year 2015.
My daughter was so excited about the curvy Barbies but their quality was SO poor that she was terribly disappointed.
I agree. As a kid I always wanted articulated dolls because I hated how lifeless the non articulated dolls looked and felt.
leo same lol I had a doll with one arm stuck in the same position and I couldn’t stand it.
My biggest issue is if you're going to create dolls with flat feet, at least make more shoe styles for them to wear! It bugs me when I dress a doll in a gown and the only shoes that fit are athletic or hiking shoes!
You'd think they could make a longer heeled shoe that accommodates that kind of foot!
Sar Majere or just give ankle joints.
@@Scott-vr7sv That's an even better idea.
Well the high heel option would be solved with ankle articulation, which goes back to we need articulation in dolls.
XD
I love them so hilarious
I also always thought of Barbie as more mature and in her twenties. Nowadays when they try and make her like a teenager in the newer movies, she seems like a different character.
Rudy's World I agree. I will always see Barbie as a 21 years old college student daydreaming about all the careers she could have.
@Altoid Bazingá I love the theory you had
The designs were so consistent back in the day that Barbie’s friends were lowkey always outshining her in my opinion...
Maybe they gave their friends better fashion because alot of parents would prefer the original Barbie but other dolls created competition?🤔🤓
Lego Fans that’s a good point
probably because Mattel had black designers at the time.. they don't now..
Well we even had "generation girl" line over 20 years ago..... and Cali Girl had a ton of different styles of non white friends.... Sigh.....
Yep!!! The first black Barbie was a beautiful Steffi face with an afro, one I really want for my collection.
Well I mean originally they were just black plastic in Barbie molds. Nowadays there are beautiful face sculpts that actually look like black people.
I also want Christie back. She’s a cultural icon: the original black Barbie. Why’d they just suddenly get rid of her ten or so years ago?
Idk for sure but i think it’s because the name sounds outdated(?) like the name Midge, Kelly..
Dante Budi Could he true but I hope that’s not the case. The most outdated name of them all is Barbie.
Dante Budi omg l love the 1960s Christie she was so stylish and her face mould was beautiful ☺️
@A Caramel Rainbow!! Oreo Barbie 🤦
But they do the same thing with Nikki.
My problem with the holiday Barbies: Most of the recent ones are wearing red. So boring. They all look so similar.
I think my favorite recent Holiday Barbies were the Peace, Hope, and Love dolls. The doll in blue was definitely the prettiest. There was also an exclusive redheaded version of the one in aqua just for K-mart that I want.
2008 was the best holiday barbie in my opinion
The latest one wears gold so that’s something.
@@kattriella1331 yes i totally agreed with you that's the best doll and also the redhead is the same sculpt as the blonde one
@@Onest00p1d_vampire Agreed!
In my head Barbie was always older. It just makes more sense.
Who are we kidding girl has had 1000 jobs.
🌝
I used to dislike their faces too but honestly they’ve grown on me so much, look at them for long enough and it’s just *chefs kiss*
@@dinosaur___7209 I don't dislike the dolls at all, I just think that the variety of face shapes for the monster high dolls makes them fun to customize with. I love the EAH characters so much and the webisodes but the downside is that the dolls have the same head shapes.
@@Nightman221k that’s valid, im not rlly into the customization aspect so I don’t tend to think of that.
The newer clothes are also of poor quality compared to older ones.
saying kids dont like articulation or removable clothes is such a bold fat lie LMAO i remember when i was a kid i always hated (HATED) dolls w painted tops and always wished the arms moved. so mattel are literally just lying lol
i remember as a little girl my favorite dolls were ALWAYS the ones with the most articulation. even now almost 20 years later i clearly remember my favorite barbie was fully articulated. the "kids dont want articulation" argument is ridiculous!
Woah, mind blown. I forgot Kelly and Chelsea were the same sister with a name swap.
And slightly taller and older.
They still use Kelly's body for the un-named toddler dolls with molded-on hair that come in the Barbie sets.
They aren’t the same sister, Chelsea is a couple years older than Kelly. For some reason they replaced Kelly with her
I so agree on the name changes! Like what’s the point?!
I was told it was because the names were less popular & made the brand seem dated, but yet I'm not seeing a whole lot of Barbies & Skippers walking around these days. Since they are too iconic for the brand Mattel can't change them.
@@morgonas13death 100% right. Not a lot of girls named Midge these days.
I think the reason why they didn’t want articulated body was due to choking hazards, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want a more articulated body
If there arms and hands can come out then yes.
It's because less articulation is cheaper to produce, plain and simple.
Happiest Place that too of course
There are articulated dolls without removable parts
Paramorefan 21 they still come off quite easily, you know children...
I also have one. The only best line of EAH is Spring Unsprung. They had that bitchy Monster High look, which I wish was incorporated more into the EAH dolls. I also wish they had more makeup.
and thronecoming!
Anna Dal i prefer legacy day
thronecoming, legacy day, and spring unsprung were probably the best EAH lines.
The first 3 waves were also really detailed! I agree with you tho, they should have incorporated more monster high elements to the dolls!
I really liked Way Too Wonderland as well.
LOL OMG dolls are supposedly the new bratz dolls
@@carlknight9677 hmm i just don’t see how that could be the case bc they have SO many characters, there’s no main circle yknow to know a lot about
There is no way that Day to Night Barbie could be sixteen. LOL
The BMR dolls are really weird and yeah it used to be Kelly and now it's Chelsea ! I love both Monster high and Ever after high, they're exciting and beautiful dolls !
I like the name chelsea
The flat shoes of the disney store dolls look like beans
I'm with you up until the monster high vs ever after high. Monster high all the way for me.
I love both but monster high is more up my alley
@@Mojukie *yawn* just appeals to people who think they're edgy I'll go with ever after high thanks
Now, as for Bratz being better then Barbie, I honestly cannot say whether I agree with that or not, cause my mom Never allowed me to own any Bratz dolls, so I’ve never actually played with one, my mom didn’t like the way they looked.
The day I saw that Kelly was changed to Chelsea (who was ALREADY a Kelly doll!) to make it "modern" but they kept "Skipper" I almost screamed.
I always thought barbie was about 30 more like
Me too. I pretended her sisters were her kids lol.
@@DannyoffireAwaken never understood why they didn't want barbie to settle down once and for all. What was wrong with that? Especially in the 80s/90s
Now they are making her like 15 -16 in the movies skipper looks more mature imo
Barbie is America's favorite teenage fashion model. That was her marketing from day one in 1959.
I feel like I didn't realise Barbie was supposed to be a teenager until a few years ago, when I was a kid I always assumed she was in her 20s
I CAN CONFIRM MOST OF THESE THINGS:
I am slightly younger then many people, children love articulation, and BARBIE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FASHION DOLL, give her clothes!
The BMR 1959 was just a huge mistake. That's nothing to do with the 90s AT ALL.
They look so tacky.
I have one, I did not like how the 90’s Barbies had super small waists.
Agreed i hated them and never collected those ones it was so hard to sew her clothes too😖
90s Barbies with their tiny waists, giant chests, and sticky rubber legs had some of the worst doll bodies ever tbh
ugh same!!! i absolutely despise the twist n' turn body. it’s so tacky, it makes them look so weird.
This is the fastest I've ever clicked!
Edit: I also miss Novi Stars I thought they were so cool!
Blind bag toys like LoL surprise are just glorified happy meal toys
About the kids not liking articulation, as someone who owned mostly Barbies as a kid, my opinion is valid. I had only one Barbie doll that had great articulation, I simply found her more fun to play with because it was much easier for her to sit down, unlike all my other Barbies that didn't have knee joints. All of us doll fans know that the reason Mattel does this is that they are cheap.
I'm so with u on the BMR dolls. I hated the clothes.
Only good thing about the BMR dolls was the Made to Move Ken dolls.
Agree, I think the only two I like are the green and the orange hair Kens
I love Monster High with all my soul but yeah, Ever after High is a better line in every aspect.
She's originally one of Skipper's friends, so I always imagined her age being between Skipper and Barbie, similar to Summer in her original depiction :)
9:33 I'm literally the exact opposite haha, EAH has never really appealed to me because I'm not big into princessy stuff, moreso all things multicoloured and wild...
I had her too and loved that I could actually make her dance!
You're absolutely right and thank you for not being silent regarding BLM (PS loved that you mentioned novistars they're so underrated)
BMR fashions don't remind me of the 90s in the U.S. at all.
Very nice video, keep making more like this 😄
Well, I agree with your unpopular opinions, but I disagree regarding to EAH and MH, since MH is my ultimate favorite doll line, it's my biggest doll collection 😜.
It's so much better articulated dolls with actual clothes, not painted on outfits.
✌😉
Monster High was my first than I was introduced to Ever after high by one of my friends and Loved both
For those who don’t get Bratz.
I'm with you on Ever After High. Personally I prefer the Ever After High dolls, but the Monster High webisodes and movies will always be iconic!
Nikki is the younger sister of Christie she was first introduced as Kelly’s first African American friend.
When I was younger, I hated that most of the Barbie clothes were pink and purple! Thank God for the new fashion packs.
It’s so funny seeing people’s reactions to the BMR1959 line who aren’t from California because...people DO dress really similarly to them here. I went to the release of them in LA and people walking by were wearing clothes so similar to them.
THANK GOD you said bring back Novi Stars!! I loved that line and completely thought I had imagined it (and the super cool website)
My Mom also hated Bratz than again lots did. She mainly hates the feet and makeup. It could’ve been one of the radon’s I wanted to buy more lmao.
This is for several reasons:
I specifically remember that when I was a little kid, I hated dolls with painted on clothes, because I shared the dresses between all my Barbies
And for Frozen... except Let It Go, I can't stand even 1% of it
Molded tops are disliked by everyone, but I assume Mattel went for that to save more cash + aiming those at 3-6 yrs old. They also have so much competition now, so thats why they make Dreamtopia, Fashionista, I Can Be etc - for different age groups. To me, all Holiday dolls (even 90s ones) were ugly and I never liked these giant-Christmas-decor dresses
Bratz vs Barbie - I did play with Bratz, I don't hate them, but Barbie always owned my heart much more
I remember when I was a kid, I loved all my Barbies, and I didn't mind if some were less articulated than others, but my absolute favorites were my Ice Skating Barbie/Ken duo and Working Out Christie because they had elbow & knee articulation so I could pose them more.
I’m not a doll collector, just a fan of watching you talk about them! You’re passionate and knowledgeable-Keep up the good work!
I used to hate changing my dolls' with other dolls' clothes until I was 10. Then I hated it again, then liked it again at like 12.
I think that even little kids don’t want to be slapped in the face with bright colors and pandering.
And most of these new dolls were made so you could give them a boat load of cash, only to get a disappointment at your door.
