I totally agree as a fellow collector❤ dolls are my kids and are my therapy too in hard times.. but even the best medicine in overdose is potentially harmful. One period of my time I couldn't afford partial rent and food to buy only dolls and got time till find again my right line. I collect till today but more mindful now ;)
Dolls have brought me joy and happiness, but I find it's easy for me to cross the line where the hobby becomes stressful instead of fulfilling. I have to be conscious of that and step away when I need to. I seem to easily fall into buying a doll "because it's there" and not necessarily because I truly want it. Sometimes I feel dull and almost sick, as if I've eaten too many sweets.

I'm glad her attitude doesn't affect the joy you get in doll collecting! I never understand why some people get their backs up about others' hobbies/passions. It has nothing to do with them. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi, Julie. I am an old lady. I have always loved dolls. I agree with you on all points. I started collecting Barbie dolls about 45 years ago when my daughter was a little girl. I started for her. She never liked dolls so then I started collecting Barbie dolls for me. I am not adverse to being considered a big kid. I am a big kid!!! I try to limit myself to 150 Barbie and Ken dolls. Storage you know. My problem is I like to build Barbie doll houses. I limit myself to 15 houses. Storage you know. I also collect books. Yeah- storage you know. I enjoyed your video.
A collector can collect anything from art to dolls to match book holders. Collections or what we go to museums to admire there’s no such thing as a child versus adult collector. A collector is a collector, a person, put it together items and displays them. I am thankful to all the collectors of museums whose collections I’ve been able to admire over the years who are no longer with us at the times hold onto things they are treasure keepers from the past bits of history that have been preserved. May we all live our own life to our satisfaction?
Creating your own parameters is one of the fun parts of creating a collection. I feel like the more specific the parameters the better the collection. There are individual dolls I would love to buy but if they don’t fit in with what I want my collection to be, I don’t buy them. Helps save money too!
I really ramped up my doll collecting during the pandemic, and now I am dealing with the fallout from that. Fortunately it's mostly a space issue and not a financial one. After 10+ years of collecting, I have finally hit the point where I have more dolls than I would reasonably want to display, even if I did have the space to do it. I am in the process of editing my collection, which is a lot harder than just not buying the dolls in the first place ha ha.
The doll editing/culling process can be difficult for sure! I have a feeling an inventory check is coming up for me soon too. Thanks so much for stopping by!
I completely agree with you that we need to take the time to actually appreciate the dolls we have. I make sure I do just that before I add another. I'm 54 and still lack funds and space to acquire it all. I don't need it all. I just want to look at them and smile. Thank you for this.
I always wanted to find Barbies I had as a child. The husband would always talk me out of it. But when he got really sick which lasted a few years, I found comfort and joy in searching and bidding on eBay and attending a few barbie shows to find these Barbies and then some memories came back of Barbies I forgot I had like the Dawn and Darci dolls. Collecting vintage clothing from the 60's - 70's is also something I still try and find from time to time. But like you said, it became a little obsessive in the beginning but has definitely slowed down. But I love to change their clothing from time to time. I do have 2 display cases, and now my 3 year old granddaughter loves them and it does bring a smile to my face watching her enjoy them as much as I do.🥰
Your Barbie/clothing collection sounds awesome, and how wonderful that your granddaughter also enjoys your dolls! Dolls have definitely gotten me through hard times--they are magic and medicine ❤🩹

This is such a good video! I had actually been planning a video something similar to this topic as well. I have learnt that I don’t need to get everything doll that exists and just get my favourites. Things I do to help me not spending too much is just enjoying my current collection like you and Veronica have said! I redress my current dolls and rearrange my shelves to just refresh them and it gives me a similar feeling to getting a new doll.
You are very articulate and I agree with your points. I am sometimes distressed about how much I spend on my dolls but I do listen to those feelings and dial back. This makes me feel I am not addicted. I also practice appreciation of the dolls I already have by watching reviews and giving them new outfits. We are quite alike in those habits.
"Happy with 20 dolls!!!" Who are these people that you speak of?? 🤔🤣... Disclaimers! Please 🤦🏻♀... it's our sole responsibility how we collect. Kiddult is ridiculous, & another unnecessary label. I love my dolls & collecting is really fun & satisfying to me. Good video 🌸💖
Yes!!!! I’m 25 and I started collecting last year. When I first we started I went spend crazy for any 90’s Barbie’s. Only when I realized that this is not a healthy way of coping and distanced myself for a while, I could collect in a healthy way again. It‘s really important (as you said) to limit yourself. I do the same trick and just keep one space for all my dolls. I just wanna keep the ones that I find beautiful or that mean a lot to me. I only buy one doll a month or every two months. It keeps me grateful for the collection I already have. Sorry for rambling but I wanted to share this 🤍
