Waterway is no longer available for sale. Are you working with Spyderco to release the next version of the knife? And what knife would you recommend to buy now, if Waterway is not available? For use on the water and cutting fish.
Hi Alexey. There are more Waterways being made now but they are still waiting on the sheaths. Not sure how much longer it will be. There are new Spyderco Sirens available right now though. Honestly, I use my Siren far more than I do my Waterway. Even for fish processing. Sure, the Waterway might be a little better for that type of work but I love the convenience of having the Siren always tucked in my waistband and it works great for everything I do on the water.
@@thefishrustler3893 Hi Lance. Thank you! Siren is a folding version of Waterway? Looks beautiful! For nature and outdoor I prefer fixed blades, but this would be a great city EDC-knife for me. I'm looking forward to Spyderco's new fixed blades for water and fish. By the way, do they preparing release new knives for spearfishing and diving? I know that there are excellent Spyderco Fish Hunter and Aqua, but something new is always interesting!
This knife exceeded my expectations. Easy to handle, lightweight, thin blade, superb blade design for stabbing. Steel sharpens fairly easy: I have used ceramic and whetstones with no problem. I have deboned a chicken, and it slices through the meat even better than my chef knife. The handle and finger guard make the grip secure. The sheath is excellent, and I wear my knife upside down for easy access. I liked this knife so well, I bought one for a Christmas present. I have yet to use it to filet fish, but I have used it in the kitchen on a variety of meat. This is my top choice for a fixed blade this year. Lance, you did very well.
Just got mine after ordering it 6 months ago. I have to say it is worth the wait. Awesome design. I hope spyderco never discontinues this model. One heck of an outdoors knife. Great job!
LC 200N is awesome on the Caribbean. Cuts through fish bone and spines with zero damage to the edge. Buying this fixed blade, like the simplicity of the design.
Excellent overview; I like the fact that you actually used the knife (knife reviewers could learn something from watching this). By the way, I think this would also make an really good hunting knife due to the thin edge and the way the spine drops down (a gutting a deer requires a similar cut to the one you describe in the video).
Hey Lance first and foremost I really enjoy your videos. I am an avid kayak fisherman and recently arrived to Guam in December. When I am not fishing I am doing research and learning on RUclips. Hopefully soon I will have some from the epic fishing we have here in Guam!
JEREMIE CHAPIN What’s up buddy, thanks for the comment. Man, I’ve been eyeing one of those solos skiffs. Do you use yours a lot? What motor are you running?
@@thefishrustler3893 I sold my PA14 in San Diego before I moved to Guam in December of 2019 thinking I would just buy another one here. Like i said before, thank you for designing this. PERFECT kayak knife to keep the gators away here in Florida and hopefully the start to more lc200n being used. I'd love to see a design that's more outdoors/camp knife with a taller blade and beefier handle (something like a becker bk16 or esee 4 style of fixed blade) but for the time being this will do beautifully. I plan on getting at least 5 of them. Peace
Didn't plan on buying this knife, but handling it in store, I liked it and walked away with it. It was a total surprise as I didn't even see any reviews of it. No fisherman, just thought it was a good cutting tool for multitude of things. Put a short lanyard on it and it feels just right. Very nice design.
Har. Like Chris Archer I just ordered one of these for use in Saskatchewan as well. But I’m planning on using for moose and elk. The shape and the special cut type you describe is exactly what you do when skinning moose or elk or deer. As well, blood causes rust if you don’t get it cleaned off soon, and in remote camps that often doesn’t happen properly until you even get home 2 weeks later. Should be a good knife for my planned use.
Charlie McAwesome That’s killer! And yes, the corrosion proof nature of lc200n is a big advantage for skinning knives, especially on a multi day hunt. Aside from staining and spotting, that blood and residue can quickly degrade your edge on other steels. Like most steels, lc200n might need a few quick passes on a pocket stone or steel to get through a big moose but lc200n is one of the easiest to sharpen steels out there. The edge retention/ease of sharpening ratio is very favorable. Enjoy!
Very cool, stumbled over your video while looking for a new knife, I just sold a few of mine because they either rust or just plain do not work for my use. I don't saltwater fish but I do quite a bit of fishing in lakes/rivers and corrosion is still an issue. I also do a fair amount of hunting and blood can wreck a good knife quickly if you are on a trip and can not clean it quickly/properly....It is awesome to see a knife designed by someone taking these things into consideration!! The ergos on this sound well laid out as well, no extra nooks and crannies for fat and scales to get lodged in requiring more effort to clean. It is sometimes hard to find good reviews of knives being used by outdoorsman... nothing against tabletop reviews and bushcraft type reviews but those tasks dont really translate as well for a knife like this. I see there is a folding version of this as well, this may be a hard choice!!
I've pre-ordered myself one in part because I've fished the salt a ton and LC200N is something of a little-known miracle steel for that environment. But I have to say you've designed one of the most handsome and elegant knives I've ever seen. And IMHO it's pretty much a perfect all-around outdoors knife. They're out of stock in most places these days and of course that's in part because of supply-chain problems but I'm pretty sure it's also just in high demand. The reviewers rave about these guys, and folks who know about the steel take a good long look and realize they pretty much have to have one. I think it might be destined to become a classic pretty soon. Just my opinion.

Phillip Nunya Thanks Phillip. Cold Steel makes some great designs. I’ve always liked their stuff. You’re right though...this is a niche that Spyderco owns for now.
@@thefishrustler3893 Yeah, and partially thanks to you. That's pretty awesome. I wish I had that opportunity, as I'm sure many others do as well of course. I'm living on an island right now and plan on doing some hiking and camping. Do you think your knife would be up to camp tasks short of stuff you should be using a hatchet for? It is a thinner design and I don't have any experience with LC200N. Your design is the only knife that looks decent for general use in that steel.
Phillip Nunya I definitely think so. One of my goals when I designed the Waterway was to create a “do everything” knife that I could carry with me on a multi-day kayak/camping trip up the coast. Something that could handle “on kayak” duties as well as the day to day and campsite duties of a trip like that. Everyone has a slightly different idea of what a “camp knife” is and that can also change a lot based on how you camp and what geography/climate you are in but being able to handle MY camping chores was definitely something the Waterway was designed for. LC200N is quite tough for a stainless steel and should perform well for you in that role. The only thing to be aware of is that the tip of the Waterway is quite acute. It was designed for puncturing and isn’t suitable for things like prying or drilling holes, etc. Aside from that you should be good to go with a Waterway.

@@thefishrustler3893 Hey, just wanted to let you know that I've had the knife for about two months now. It is a damn good knife! Great design! I know some military guys who need knives and work near water often. I recommended this knife to them since it's a fairly good work knife and looks like it would make a decent "tactical" knife as well. This is the kind of knife that I think the military should adopt, perhaps with a more robust tip design to better deal with abuse. A dagger version would be amazing too. Spyderco should get on that ASAP in my opinion. Your design can stand up to some abuse as is though, and seems like it could even work fairly well as a self defense knife. Great piercing and slicing profile, good grip, and great finger stop. Hell, the end of the handle is even fairly acute for pommel strikes.

Hey Lance I came across the Siren Folder by chance at the local store and upon holding it I fell in love with it ! Spyderco often produces utility knives that may not look so attractive at first but its the knife design n handle ergonomics that eventually seals the deal ! After taking the Siren home which I like even better than the Enduras or Paramilitary2, I decided to order the Waterway knife 🔪 And I'm so glad I did !!! I compared it with the Spartan Phrike a tactical blade just 1 inch shorter but over 1mm thicker blade stock but about $100 more which I had been eyeing for sometime and I'm so happy the Waterway can adequately replace it for utility or otherwise!!! Both great knives Lance !!! Very satisfied...😄😄😄 And I keep asking myself does LC200N stands for Lance Clinton 200 Nice !!! Haha 😄
You’re getting this video reviewing lark all wrong: you’re supposed to show a pristine blade on a tabletop. Despite that; both a great review of an interesting knife and an interesting review of a great knife!
ChrisinHove Hah! I know. I even threw away the box and resharpened the factory edge. I’ve totally ruined the collectors value of this one. When will I ever learn? 😞
Neat video Lance. My wife and I are Canadian Canoeist's and we do multi-week trip up in the Boreal forest each year. The last two years I've had a Spyderco Enuff salt attached to my PDF. Its a great little blade, but ironically, not quite Enough....In the canoe barrel I keep a fixed 4" blade paired with a take-down buck saw that does most of the camp chores and wood prep. I'm interested in the waterway and wondering how much real estate it might take up on a PDF when fixed there? If the waterway could fit on a PDF while sitting I'm thinking I could ditch my camp fixed blade and give the Enuff to wife as the back-up. Can you see the waterway clipped to a PDF? This is the style of PDF we use and you can see the attachment point in black: www.mec.ca/en/product/5019-275/Fulcrum-WW-PFD....Anyhow thanks for uploading your video and giving an overview of your design. It looks like a winner for us water wanderers....Ken
kgdblade Hi there, I would think the Waterway would fit fine. The knife (when in the sheath) is about 10 inches long and the clip is near the center of that 10”. I can wear it there comfortably on the kayak and I’m an average sized guy at 5’10”. At any rate, I think you will appreciate the design as a rustproof camp knife whether you choose to wear it on your pdf or not. Enjoy!
@@thefishrustler3893 Thanks for your reply Lance. If all goes to plan, a new waterway will accompany us on our 2 week trip planned for August in Wabakimi (Wabikimi incorporates the upper part of Lake Nipigon north of Lake Superior). I'll be sure provide a working review of the knife post trip. Cheers and may you fare well waiting out the 'hardwater' season over the winter. Ken
Brilliant design. I don't usually buy knives for more than $100, but I'll make an exception here. It's exactly what I need. Just a pity about the obligatory 'Spyder-hole' being there. Looks like it'll get filled with guts and just take an extra second to clean out while serving no actual purpose and possibly weakening the blade slightly. Other than that it's basically perfect.
Bullpup92 Thanks for the kind words Bullpup! I get where you’re coming from with the hole but it’s a trademark issue for them. I’m a crusty old fisherman and all my knives smell like fish anyway so it doesn’t bother me much. Thanks again and I’d love to hear your thoughts after you get one and give it some use!
@@thefishrustler3893 Yeah I hear what you're saying, kinda wish they'd keep the hole off of fixed blades and just leave them on folders where they serve a purpose. But what can ya do? Not too much of an issue, it's pretty much my only criticism and I get that it's something they've chosen to add for a trademarked aesthetic. I'll be sure to give you feedback after some use, I'm going on holiday to a beach-side town for December this year with some good fishing action planned, right after the knife's release, so that'll be a great opportunity. Here's hoping you get more collaboration offers in the future for more designs, you're clearly a talented designer with an eye for practicality and simplicity, which I appreciate. All the best.

I just got one and I love it. Mahalo
That’s awesome brother! Enjoy that thing. May it help put many dinners on your family’s table!! 🤙🏼
Just bought it from Blade HQ dude. Looking forward to trying it out.
no demo of attaching the knife to a pfd?
I'll definitely be getting one!
I have been saving my pennies to buy this knife but I just checked a few websites and a few of them are out of stock. Is this knife being discontinued?!?
Kenneth Kuhlman I think they plan to keep the Waterway around. I see it available at Knifeworks. 👍🏼
@@thefishrustler3893 I called Spyderco and they are definitely not discontinuing it which is awesome. They’re just short of them. But I did find it on a site called knives ship free and so it’s on the way thank you for designing a great knife. looking forward to using it every day.
Looking forward to this one!
Haha 😄
That’s great Anthony!! I’m so happy that you are enjoying my designs! 👍🏼👍🏼
Is this knife discontinued? I've been searching everywhere and I can't find anyone who has them in stock.

Hi Lance. Nice knife! Would you recommend using it as a dive knife?
Sign me up. Great review!
I plan to buy one to use as my kitchen knife so my wife stops borrowing my spydiechef. LC200N works great in the kitchen and handles the dishwasher!
Sick brother👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My next purchase if still available?
Nathan Gray thanks bro. Should be available anytime now. Hopefully This month. 🤞🏼
Just pre-orderd one couple places already have them👍🏼
Disregard still pre order only...
All my knives rusted to holes while I watched this video. Dude! Stop spilling seawater on me!
Lance can you politely bully the folks at Spyderco to put out more of these?
Soon bro, soon! There’s been a supply issue with the sheath makers but they’re close. Thanks for being patient! 👍🏼👍🏼
You should do this whole video again..... Above water
Surfin Gringo. Nice.
Ken
No hard water winters down here in Costa Rica! Haha. :) Be sure to tag me when you post your review and thoughts after your trip! Safe travels!
can't hear anything
@@GuyInAHotdogSuit69 you could fill it with epoxy or jbweld the polish it smooth:)
@@JohnFrumFromAmerica That's a really good idea! Thank you.
@@GuyInAHotdogSuit69 you are welcome. If you use clear epoxy you might even be able to suspend something interesting in the hole like a small spider.
