He’s 100% right, I did a really poor job on a couple of my knives bending my elbow in to try and keep the tip in contact with the stone. Bring the handle up like he says. From my experiance (as a beginner). Thanks for taking the time to show us these tips.

Thanks Lance. I was late to the game picking up a siren. Went through a couple pacific salts before I pulled the trigger. I fish a lot in the gulf, and the fish hunter is my go to. I bought a siren to keep in waist band of my bike shorts primarily, but it is also in rotation for edc. Thoroughly enjoy the thought put into it, and the texture on g10 is fantastic. Wire clip is my favorite clip.

Theoretically....I think the majority of people overthink sharpening. Cavemen learned a rock and obsidian chips can create sharp tools. Not rocket science. K.I.S.S. Is one of my favorites

What's up Lance. I also learned from Robert (Racoon) to just jump the jig over the bottom 1ft as much, to wake up and catch those groupers out there. Pretty effective, if you do usual long and high pitch, actually decreases the chance of a catch. Would love to get my kayak over there. BTW, how much power does that outboard has and how much gas in the tank? I've been jigging around there and I don't imagine myself alone with my new kayak skiff 😮

I guess my diamond hones from the Lansky system are more suitable than that Spy. Sharpener for very hard steels like ZDP-189, K390, CPM S110V and even Maximet.

Thanks for your great review, I'm very interested in trying magnacut for myself and I'm a diehard tool steel fan. Spyderco recently announced they're releasing a Native 5 Salt in Magnacut and as soon as I can find a PE version, I'm all over it. I'd love to score a Magnacut Mule like yours but I doubt they'll make another run of those.

iused to get good results on my chinese cleaver and basic kitchen knives following the basic rules. just recently i changed two things. one is my method for making a knife sharp that wasn't that sharp. as we know the sharp maker isn't really designed to sharpen dull knives. so i used all three corners of the regular rods and then used all the flats as well. them I did the same on the ceramic rods as well. i was very happy with the results. now with this method I actually went engaged the rods from the heel of the blades to the tip using a crescent shape that stayed in contact with the rods very easily. super cool to hear the same sound feedback on each stroke. i was very happy. i start from the heel at the top of the rods and finish at the point below like normal. only no normal issue as you pointed out. i also didn't have to do a stroke adjustment as your alternate method employs. try it to see what i mean. fr someone like me who has issues focusing. the less adjustments i have to do is always a win for me. i sharpened the lower height Nakiri blade (donated from my cousin) the same way and I had never sharpened it before, only steeled it. that wasn't working anymore and knew it needed to be sharpened.
