He also mentioned this in a long letter back in a 2017 fancafe post: "Maybe rather than fireworks or cherry blossoms, we need wild flowers. The kind that grows peacefully." 😭😭
Instead of fireworks that bloom fiercely in the sky, but its flames quickly blow out, he wanted to live like a wild flower that gradually blooms peacefully, grounded, and lasts for a long time. Firework -> Flowerwork

Youjeen from Cherry Filter is one of the more famous female rock vocalists in Korea. Korean kids born in the late 80s and 90s (most likely including RM himself) grew up listening to the band.
I really recommend that you check her or the band out. Her voice and style are very unique. Her stage with Park Ki Young (another amazing female vocalist) in Masked Singer was absolutely legendary.

What I find sooo interesting is how similar RM's mindset on this song is to Jhope's Arson. Two title tracks dealing with the pressure of fame and the unexpected consequences of realizing your dreams. Of course the two songs couldn't be more different from each other musically but the theme is so consistent, it really shows how at least 2 members of BTS (and I think all of them) are processing their emotions in a similar way. RM's desire to not explode and disappear quickly like a firework but instead scatter like a wild flower bound to return to the ground vs. Jhope's choice of putting out the fire or letting it burn brighter and consume him. Bangtan's lyricism never ceases to amaze me...

I totally understand your feelings with wildflower- it can be a lot - but I feel it has some positivity too. Yes this song discusses many dark thoughts (times when your heart underestimates you and your dream devours you) but it also expresses hope that he will work past these turbulent emotions in this fast paced life (chaotic like fireworks) to become stable and lasting like “flowerworks”. “Burning fireworks to flowerworks, boyhood to eternity”. Fireworks are beautiful but burn off quickly and cannot last forever, wildflowers bloom and although they might go away when seasons change (leaving the field “barren”) they still always return. I see the song as despite struggling there is passionate hope that fits the catchy/passionate/hopeful sound of the song. Mono, to me, portrayed someone existing with their struggles (it’s ok to not be ok) but indigo still acknowledges the struggles but is more hopeful and upbeat in my opinion.

The more I listen to this song, the more touching it gets…
The Korean title, "Wild Flower Works” is a flame falling to the ground, unlike ‘fireworks’ that flower toward the sky. I can remember his words that he wanted to be a flame, but now he wants to live like a wild flower. Despite achieving everything and standing at the top, living so fiercely in introspection... I'm proud of them, but sometimes I feel sad.
“Wildflower Works” in the MV are an intangible cultural asset of Korea.

What I love about RM's work is that it's like reading poetry. There's so much to delve into and pull apart, but it's also not something I listen to often, like it's not the kind of music I listen to while just going about my day, or chilling out, it's stuff to listen to when you want to philosophize and examine and explore ideas. I really wish I could just sit and talk to him over coffee or wine or something haha.

She's got a powerful and gorgeous voice. RM... what to say? I think it's part of the voice, it's like sort of a cry, desperation, etc. Most female rock bamd vocalisr have the same texture. It's close to cryinf, emotional. Youjeen is a perfect feature that can deliver the chorus that can match the emotion of the whole song.

I have been playing the song on repeat. RM made me cry. We had the same thoughts, Austin. It's him asking ARMY to understand and wait for when he's figured things out. Let's face it, BTS got what they dreamed of. They must have felt that 10 years flew very fast, and yeah, what now. Can't wait for when their enlistment is over and we'll see what's to come for them and for us. RM's album is simply beautiful. We are hearing his innermost thoughts. Now I understand why they called it his diary.

Sorry forgot to mention in my other comment that the title for this is also a play on words in Korean. 불꽃놀이 (bulkkotnori) is the word for fireworks, and the title for this song is 들꽃놀이 (deulkkotnori) which is like wildflower viewing. He mentioned in some interviews that he originally wanted to name this song ‘Flowerwork’ but knew that wouldn’t make sense so he decided to give it a different title. (I’m very glad he kept the line in the chorus tho!) 💜

Indigo is incredible. Loving Wild Flower most and cry every time I hear it.
Nobody gets universally felt anguish, growing pains and turmoil of life humanity needs to face and live with as greatly as works of BTS. I am left speechless once again and I am also humbled with gratitude that I can be a fan of such a special artist (s).
This song is my fave on his Indigo album, as Seoul was on Mono, and every time I read his lyrics of Wild Flower I am stunned by depth and poetry Namjoon blessed us with. Gosh.... What a gift he is to us. I find Flower having so much in common with Suga´s Interlude: Shadow - how they open up on their internal introspective process, how honest they are about it, how they unveil darker side of artistic success and fame that comes with it, how they ponder over it, question everything, how they speak about their fears and growth as human beings, how they still value the basics like personal integrity, beginnings they come from and necessary grounding ( touching the grass). All so intricate, so well crafted and so relatable.
Namjoon voice is incredible and I am so in love how he sounds on this album.
He looks stunning too, all in white, in a flowy shirt and simple cardigan but visually more endearing than all dolled out versions of him from the past.
This song is a full tenner for me, easily.
    GREAT!

  • @Cookie_moonlove

I love his album. I don't have a favorite song, I really like them all in their own way but the first one that, like got me, soundwise amazing and simple but so real lyrics that I just really felt was Change pt.2. But as I say that I think of the next track Lonely that also just also hits me but it is like this with all songs because then it is the next song and the songs before, as I said I really like all songs, they are so different from each other.
This is also like I find the best albums to be, you have to listen to it at least 4-5 times before you get to know it and then you still will get to know it better and love it more and more with every listen. I find new things and the songs just grows and the lyrics, the more you get in to the lyrics you just get deeper you feel the songs.
I have listened to it multiple times but still feel like it's too early to speak about it or say I have any favorite songs.
I listen to all kinds of music and the thing for me that make me like something is if it makes me feel and this album really does just that. I do also love good lyricism and introspection and getting to know an artist better, see and feel what they feel. I really feel that it is so much I like with this album and as I said I'm still getting to know it. I love people strong enough to be vulnerable, open up and share emotions, all kinds of emotions and he really does that.
Edit: New video on BANGTANTV called *"RM 'Indigo' Album Magazine Film"* that I recommend you watch this new one goes into every track and the featured artists and people he worked with and track by track how the album came to be so I highly recommend you react to it.
For more of him talking about the album I recommend these:
If you search for a video *"[ENG/Full ver.] BTS RM (방탄소년단 김남준) 첫 솔로앨범 'Indigo'(인디고) 셀프 소개 풀영상 (들꽃놀이)"* you get RM introducing the album, talking a little about each track on Indigo but also a bit about his earlier solo work and Indigos contrast to that etc.
I really recommend you check it out, it's so interesting, I love his mind, and even though RM's english is amazing he still expresses and explains things even more with more ease like this in Korean so this with eng sub is great.
And also the Zach Sang interview. Zach gives RM time to answer and express himself and it was a really interesting interview, getting to know RM, Kim Namjoon, and his process, life and thoughts and inspirations even better and deeper. Fun and interesting so really recommend that one too.
I need to go and find it because I couldn't listen to all of it then.
    And ofcourse his Weverse live.
And I recommend reading the Album review by Consequence of sound and the interview by NME too.

  • @ZariDV
    @ZariDV Год назад +2

This song and video are both so stunning. Definitely deserving of being the title track on an album full of strong songs. I appreciate that he feels safe enough to be this vulnerable, honest and raw with ARMY without worrying that we would misunderstand, judge, or take it poorly in any way. I know some artists are afraid to let their fans know how much the fame is a struggle because people think stars/idols shouldn't "complain" or "whine" about getting rich and having adoring fans. Nothing is 100% great all of the time and it's important to acknowledge the flipside of what happens when you get as huge as Namjoon (and the rest of BTS) got. Few celebrities get his level of superstardom and you often seen people who are propelled that high struggle really hard with similar feelings. I hope he takes a little break after serving in the military to rest and recalibrate. He's worked so hard.
My fave songs on the album are:
    1 Still Life
    2 Closer
    3 Lonely or Yun (it's a tie)
I'm not counting Wild Flower because it's an automatic fave by default for me.

Currently BANGTANSUBS (one of our most trusted translators) have the entire album translated on their website already so u can check that out! And this song...is a lot. Im finding it hard to listen to it cause its too heavy (yet so beautiful) I also get why namjoon said this is the most meaningful song to him that it hurts I cant even imagine how that must feel from a non outsider perspective ☹️

Lyrics are the best from Doolset Bangtan, but it takes them a few days to get those up. Caitlin Benson is always waiting for Doolset for BTS Albums, because BTS Songs are so deep and well written, with lots of context and references. Doolset is a Website tho, Caitlin always listens to the Song First and reads the Lyrics after and goes through the notes on screen, you also see who wrote the Songs, who produced it. Maybe it's something you can adapt, especially for the Albums? And you always get the references and context explained, with recipes. But all of their other Albums and Solo work is up on Doolset, recommend using them when you do the Albums.

Ahhhh Alanis Morsette! I never thought of that similarity. My first thought was Hailey Williams as well.
    The song is a masterpiece.

Youjeen is the Lead Vocalist for Cherry Filter - Formed in 1997 - Emo Rock Band from South Korea. Very famous in Korea.
It's hard to pick a favorite. My top 5 are Yun (w/Erikah Badu), Still Life (w/Anderson Paak), All Day (w/Tablo), Lonely, Wild Flower (Youjeen). I can't put them in order of favorite yet, it's in the order on the album.

I can hear this chorus in jimin's voice or jk or Jin. It would work so well.

This is my favorite so far but Still Life is catching up and I suspect I'm going to end up loving all of them. But this one - he put his entire self into this song. It hurts but it's perfect.
I love the idea that wildflowers have their own beauty, less splashy than fireworks, often unappreciated, but also eternal. He finds peace there too... He's talked about that before, about the beauty of fireworks and cherry blossoms, but can't we have the peace of wildflowers?
I love thinking that through this song and album, maybe he's found the way to make his flowerworks - to create music in his voice, from his center, in a way that feels like he can go on doing it. Wildflowers don't care about album sales or awards. They just are.
RM has so much poetry in him.
Can you tell I've listened to this a lot? 😂

I listened to this song and then was too sad to continue listening to the album for a while. I did listen to Yun and Closer. They're really good too. I don't think there is a weak spot.

If you listen to Cherry Filter's (Youjeen's band) music, you'd definitely hear more of the Alanis Morisette! CF is a rock band. Can't wait for you to listen to Yun! It's so pretty.

imo two of the best bts lyric channels on youtube are of 'enjoy bts more' who (very smoothly) captions live performances, and the other is 'aftaehyung' who offers color coded lyric videos with refrences. If the lyric videos aren't available yet, Doolset is the best option.

I'm not one of slow songs like ballads, etc. BTS are the only exception most of the time, since I always love their music no matter what they come up with. RM's albums are no exception alsdjkas I ADORED every single song aksdjla My favourite is Wild Flower, followed by Still Life, Hectic and All Day. Yun also reminds me a lot of the soundtrack of one of my favourite animes so I can't help but go back to it really frequently haha

The channel "Enjoy BTS more" works tirelessly to provide accurate subtitled videos using trusted sources such as Doolset and she will always wait for the most accurate translations to become available. She always credits the sources and updates the subtitles/information if/when needed. She will also add relevant information/content for context, for example for her most recent upload of All Day with Tablo she has added a video clip of the comments made by Joon and Tablo from BANGTANTV's "RM 'Indigo' Album Magazine Film". I can not recommend this channel enough to ARMY💜

I Think you are totally on point regarding the message of this song. I'm just curious what is going to happen now?.
Will he tour with this or is just going to do the small selected concert that is scheduled?. Is he enlisting now or is he taking a break... and if .. for how long?.
