I just tested this theory of yours. using the system CPU monitor looking at Logic 11total usage.
I used my M1 base model 8gb:
Idle:
All of them except phase plant were using 3-4% fluctuating with Phaseplant being the least at 2% & the OsTIrus taking 5%
Current 3-4%
Serum 3-4%
Vital 3-4.5%
Phaseplant 2%
OsTIrus (which is run by emulating the DSP 56300 CPU) 5%
INIT patch saw holding C3:
OsTIrus 10-15%
Serum 16% flat
Vital 17-19%
Current 13-15.5%
Note was held for 30s.
Making Current slightly better than the most popular synth serum.
Love this plugin & on my Base Model M1 I can have MANY of them shredding it & I have loads of over head! 0 CPU issues.

they are ALLLL trying . . . to imitate what HALion HAS BEEN doing for years and does BETTER to this day !! Vital Audio, Serum and now Current by Minimal Audio . . . but they WON'T match up to the INSANE deep sound architecture and synthesis possibilities of what Steinberg HALion does !!! None of these synths even COME close to what HALion does and CAN do 😅😅. But it's a good try again . . . another grey-blueish synth 😄😄. I've UN-installed almost EVERYTHINGGGG when HALion 7 was released, mostly becuz I No longer needed THIRD party FM Synthesizers due to the FM Lab in HALion.
Ive actually never used Halion or have seen much about it. Didnt know it was that good!

I'm new to Current(so I wasn't aware of the subscription-based-bullsh*t.) I saw an ad on my Facebook page....so I trialed it, wasn't impressed with the presets & it's just a CPU-killing-bloated-piece-of-sh*t. Instead, I bought Arturia's Pigments 5(for $99) and it destroys Current and it VERY cpu-friendly! This is why I HATE Minimal Audio and their bloat-ware that sounds like straight up ass.
I havent used current since testing it out but pigments is super good! The new pigments update really helped the cpu usage it used to be pretty bad too gaha
