Beautiful Work and YES to the photo shop video!
Sounds good!
I am always amazed at your art deco work, they come out amazing.
As to adhering veneer on a curved surface. You would need a router with a set of graduated cove bits. You can use them to cut a rounded cove into a piece of wood that matches the curve of the piece. You can then use that piece of wood to clamp down and apply even pressure to the curve when glueing. I would cover the wood with packing tape because the glue will not stick to the tape. ;)
Genius!!! Thank you so much!!
If u didn’t have a router, You could also make the mold out of Bondo or something similar, by covering the curved edge with tape & covering it with bondo, cos as soon as the bondo dries u have ur mold & u’d clamp it down over the new veneer same way as you would a routed piece of wood to add the pressure until the veneer sticks
@@designabeej I did not think of that, I may have to try it and see how it works
@@designabeej oh yes! I don’t know why I didn’t think about that
This looks amazing!!!! You always just rock these Art Deco pieces!!! I bet that client would gnash here teeth for giving up on this gorgeous cabinet 😖
Haha thank you!
Amazing transformation-restoration! I am sure you will sell it to someone that will appreciate it! Thanks so much for sharing
Thank you!!
Beautiful job. Made me laugh when I saw you with your puff jacket and flip flops
Hahahaha yeah. I didn’t really even think about it lol
Me too, winter up north, summer down south!
@@heidisettles5537 lol my fear are always cold so I rarely think about keeping my feet warm because being cold is all they’ve ever known 😂
Love your vids and your work. I'm a noob at all this. Question: You stripped and then sanded the whole piece. What situations do you strip first and then sand, versus just sanding a piece without stripping? Thanks for any feedback.
Hey! Thanks for the comment! I usually try to strip and then sand if I’m working with high quality, fragile, or rare veneer.
A feminine part... I was thinking the same thing!!! Absolutely stunning piece. With the veneer, it's hard. I take my cue's from Thomas Johnson on here. If you haven't run into this youtuber, he is AMAZING and knows EVERYTHING about restoration. He almost always has a veneer repair to do and you can watch him do it. That might help for the future. I think your veneer was losing integrity to the substrate to begin with and that's not your fault. New veneer would have to be gently bent in that 'waterfall' position. I recently repaired a waterfall piece, I KNEW it was SO fragile so I didn't mess with restoration like I normally would. I cut my losses and gently restained it. Anyway, this is a gorgeous piece - I'm always amazed at your striping, thanks for the video. 🥰
Thank you so much! And thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely be looking into his channel
Second the recommendation of Thomas Johnson. He is a master craftsman and his videos are very informative. He has decades of experience with restoration of furniture that is very old.
@@nancykaminski8600 yeah! I checked him out! He is very informative
@@TheMissFlips and he restores and repairs veneer that is over 100 years old. There is always a way!
@@nancykaminski8600 indeed!
Limitless talent. As a fan of deco, I’m glad I found you❤
Thank you so much!
Outstanding! You really did make a silk purse out of a sows' ear! Beautiful! Merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄
Thank you! Happy holidays! ❤️
YAYY for a gloss finish! I never see anyone do gloss for anything anymore but especially for for art deco as that is one of its signiture attributes.
Agreed!
Love this! Curious what color stain did you use? I always have trouble deciding the best color for these. ❤
Thank you! Typically I use antique walnut :)
I vote yes to photoshop tutorial 😊
Heard chef 🫡
Whoa that looked like a "toughie," I think all the hard work paid off. Hope you find a buyer for it.
Thank you so much!!
Yay, a MissFlips video!
😂❤️
You did an amazing job on this piece.
Thank you 🥰
Looks amazing and so does the photoshop except the wooden floors go both horizontally & vertically?
Yes, it’s made with AI so it’s inconsistent
Really beautiful, as always!
Thank you so much 😊
Love your gold designs!
Thank you!
Not sure how I missed your new upload. I had been checking for it. Anyway, there is a channel called John's Furniture Repair that might interest you. Despite the name, it is run by his daughter. She has decades of experience and seems like a genuinely cool person. I'm sure if you were to reach out to her, she might be able to give you some insights or ideas to those more challenging repairs. Even just watching her channel I'm sure might spark some inspiration for problems you may have encountered in the past or future
Wow! I’ll make sure to check her out! Thank you!
I love that channel, I watch it all the time.
You are SO massively talented!!
Thank you!!
But score on those cd’s 😂Randy Travis😂😂😂 yes to the tutorial on staging with AI
Right??? lol total score! Okidoki! One tutorial coming up!
Too bad the veneer fails but you made lemons out of lemonade. good work.
I know :((( thank you though!
I've been wanting to try QCS, thanks for the coupon!
For sure! It’s the best
This piece turned out so beautifully 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much! ❤️
AMAZING WORK!!!
Thank you!!
What an amazing transformation well done its beautiful .
Thank you!!
Brainstorming here... Would the heat gun reactivate the glue enough to make the veneer restick if you clamped it?
lol it definitely could, however, I didn’t have the right tools/know how to clamp the curved bits
😂😂lol on that V shaped decor piece. This turned out beautifully
Loool thank you!!
Just don't like the color paint but the piece looks great.
Haha fair enough. I’m on the fence about it myself honestly
You are fricken amazing and I love your videos!
Thank you so much!!
I hope you saved all that veneer, you could have fixed the missing.
Even where it was missing, the glue was failing on the pieces next to it and I just didn’t know how to repair the bent pieces
Nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
A juicer included!? Back in the day this was the most hi tech piece, very cool.
Haha right??
Good job
Thank you!
You will use less stain if you use a lower grit than 400. 400 is supposed to be for polishing and therefore burnishes the wood. It is better to stop at 150 or 180. Then spray a bit of water to raise the grain then sand again and stain. Even paint will have better adhesion at a lower grit. But take my advice with a grain of salt and do you.
Oh, good to know! Thanks!
Whatever you charge for this piece, it’s worth it!
Haha thank you!! 🥰
A heat gun and spray bottle.
?
Dampen the veneer with water and lightly push it around the rounded edge hold the heat gun down over the top as you go applying medium heat and keep spraying water as well. when you have it in place press down with a clean rag. @@TheMissFlips
