atlaspressed while I agree with you that this reviewer was good and knows what he's talking about. I have to disagree with how you wrote about your example of someone who likes sports games to review puzzle games. Why can't someone like both and be capable of reviewing both? In fact I'm sure you yourself like more than just one kind of game. I personally love, sports, rpg's, fighting, action, and blah blah blah. Don't think people should just be lumped into one category of gaming
IGN is going into serious depth here. Are they actually doing their homework for once? I never thought I'd see the day where they play a game for more than just a few hours.

If you don't want to play the RPGs to get the story you could watch the Anime to catch up. Just putting that out there. I know a lot of Fighting game fans don't particularly like RPGs but the story is really good so it's worth checking out
I'm really glad that someone give a legit and honest review all other people who talk about JRPG don't know what their talking about and give it a shitty review but this guy knows his JRPG well.
So would you recommend this to someone who has only played Persona 4 Golden? I mean, I love that game (and kinda on the fence of buying Persona 3) and I do enjoy a good fighting game as long as it's not to difficult to learn.
I've played Persona 1-4 but skipped the first Arena. I decided to get this and it's a lot of fun. It seems very overwhelming at first (at least in my opinion) and I'm still getting the hang of it. I'd recommend it, you can even buy the first game's story as DLC.
TheGrimReaper0011 I love this game along with Catherine and Persona 4 Arena and play them to death, but my sweet time with the Xbox 360 is ending...... PS4 is on the way cause Persona 5 is coming and really really want it!
+GrimmyReaper To get the maximum enjoyment or appreciation out of story mode, you should play P3 FES first. The P3 characters are 3 years older than they were in P3, so there's a lot of backstory you won't have context for. You won't know who these characters are and what they're all about. There is some explanation, but it's no substitute for playing the game. The P3 characters are incorporated into the story. P4A's story is a sequel to both P3 and P4. While you can technically play the story mode without playing either P3 or P4, you won't enjoy it as much because you'll lack the context or attachment to the characters. If you're coming for the actual fighting mechanics, arcade mode and multiplayer should be fine.
The shadow characters make me really interested to see how the game fares on the competitive circuit- sounds like in the right hands it could be a little game breaking. It's going to be fun to watch though.
Nah, currently the tier list places most Shadow characters near the bottom. Only few can make full application of their Frenzy state and the overall damage nerf Shadow versions get makes them work more for damage. Haven't seen anything quite broken yet.
Is this on PS4? I feel like I would've heard more about it if it was.. I wish it were though, this looks fantastic. Makes me all nostalgic for old-school 2D fighters.
So... How will this work for me if I never played the first one?(Story mode and gameplay) I live in Europe, so they removed it from the store. I have played P4G though...
I highly doubt it because of Dance All Night. But I would love for it to come to vita. I think the Visual Novel aspect fits better on mobile platforms rather than home consoles.
Persona 4 golden put a lot ppl on to the persona series (including me) and its one of the Vita's highest grossing games. You would think they would want to capitalize on that and release as much persona related stuff as they can on it. If i was in charge of it i know i would.
I would say no. I would try to track down "the golden" before hitting this up. The biggest reason I say that is simply because Persona 4 is a murder mystery first and foremost, and part of the fun is learning who the murderer is. Ultimax is great, but they have no qualms about spoiling so many plot points of the original series...including the identity of the killer.
if you really want to know the story... this contains story elements *from Persona 3* than Persona 4, the only relevant story element from the fourth installment are the most of the characters and the shadow mode characters
***** That's the problem.... its an intro into what it was suppose to be. I don't want an intro, no one does. I want the story, lol. And that "still updating" shit is nonesense. A game is judged on what it comes with on release, not what it plans to be...
+Haidar So was destiny...was it an okay game? yeah I guess just like aw but it doesn't come close to even being an honorable mention when it comes to great games of 2014
okay.. a question to somone who played p4 Arena ultimax AND blaze blue *continum shift* in Blaze blue i struggle heavely to do something that is even close to a combo in short: i suck at blaze blue and how it works. my question: is p4 arena ultimax as hard to learn like blaze blue?.
Persona 4 arena combos are pretty easy, just short button combinations that are easy to pick up can do some heavy damage. In my experience it's easier to do the combos in this game than soul calibur 5 which I also enjoy.
I hope they make another remake of this game on PS4,XBOX1,PC and probably the PSVITA.New characters I wan't are:Zen&Rei,Makoto Yuki(Male P3 hero),Minako Arisato (female P3 hero),Shinjiro(make him a flashback character like Kazumi from tekken 7) and Theodore.I hope you are taking notes Atlus!
Now that Persona 5 is out the next game will probably include characters from that, but if they added these characters along with the P5 cast I'd be very happy.
you could but you wont get many references and there are spoilers to P4 and some P3 spoilers but overall i recommend playing the Persona series and the Shin Megami Tensei series if your into somewhat difficult Turn Based RPG's with very good stories. But if your not into Turn Based games and dont want to play it there are two animes for Persona 4 and 3 movies for Persona 3 but only 2 movies have been released and only the first part of the P3 movie has been subbed.

Ultimax has more characters and was rebalanced like any good fighting series should. The only reason you MIGHT want to play Arena is to get an idea of what happened in between the story of Persona 4 and Ultimax (since the story follows up right after Arena ends), but if you don't care about the story you can go right ahead and Ultimax more or less gives you a summary of what happened.
Yes, Ultimax has all the stages of Arena (and new stages of course). Same for the music, it has all the music already in Arena along with new music exclusive to Ultimax.
Just finished persona 4. I love all genres of games and I have a ps3, vita and PC. Somebody please tell me. The order of what to do. Should I play persona 4 arena? dancing all night? or arena ultimax? Don't tell me by what is the better game. tell me by story organization
+littledx11 I think you should try to play Persona 3 portable. I personally liked the story in P3P better than P4G and I'm not going to explain why because I don't want to spoil anything for you. Dungeon crawling is also a lot easier in P3P because you can choose to split up with your team, they can pick up items and find stairs for you, stuff like that. The personal stats are also easier to complete because there are just three instead of five, Time is a lot tighter than P4G though and because youre not really walking around the areas, but rather just move a cursor around, navigation is a lot faster. If I compare the story side by side, both of them are great by all means. Persona 4 was heartwarming and stuff but Persona 3... oh man. There were so many times where that game broke my heart especially with some of the social links and stuff.
+TechnicolourPhase I'm sorry but that's not what I meant. I mean I want to go on with the story of persona 4 because I love the characters so much, yeah persona 3 made me really depressed but persona 4 made me fall in love with every single character, so please tell me what I should get to continue the story of persona 4
Yessss, even if you dont like fighting (which is really good also) the story itself is really good. if you loved the characters from p4 and p3 then you'll defiantly enjoy this.
Would anyone recommend playing this to someone who has never watched the anime or played the previous games?Because i both liked and hated the video i mean it was new for me.
I would say, if you're interested in the story you would be more invested and enjoy it having played the previous games. However, it is still a great and fun package.
***** its definitely worth it man. A lot of content, from single player story and arcade, challenges, versus, to online ranked, lobbies, etc. Plenty of unique characters, and AAA production value here. I'd definitely call it comprehensive.
dam casul so the english version of the game as also japanese voices(outside of the battles, like in sotry mode fully voiced)?? 'cause i saw a lot of forums stating the contrary, thanks for replaying btw,do u have the game(just checkin')? have a nice day/night and thanks a lot.
Unlikely, but if they did, maybe sometime after the console release of Central Fiction. I'm up for that idea by the way. They'd have to make a new battle system though since P4A and BB have different fighting mechanics.
Then as Yu and Ragna fight a guy wearing a headbang and red clothes come over to them and says let's rock as the other two ask the newcomer he says he has a Bad Soul and the came to cause Order then later he activates his Gear is none other than Soul Badguy BBxGGx PA(U)
Hopefully I don't get bashed by others for this reply but it's a little bit simple than BlazBlue & Guitly Gear but it does require some skill. The game offers some pretty good tutorials & a challenge mode to test out some combos. It's still fun as hell though :)
Heh I do support them, whenever I can and if they are good of course (its also not Wii U fault) like Most Wanted U, Deus Ex and I plan to buy Devil's Third. Im pretty sure this game would sell nice on Wii U since there are a lot SMT fans with it (including me)
usually I gather with my friends to play fighting or racing games. we are scrubs by all means. we play mortal kombat and tekken a bit competitively and the most skilled player usually wins but when we play street fighter it's more luck than skill (for us) as we smash buttons aimlessly. if you have played Persona 4, Do you think this game is going to be good for us?
This game might be good for you guys as it has an auto combo mechanic, which means the game gives you a whole combo that usually ends with a super just by mashing square on ps3 or x on 360
Not sure if this is too late or not but the only concern jumping from MK and Tekken to an ArcSys game is the speed of the game. P4U is very fast to the point that it can be a bit visually overwhelming at first. But given about four or five matches you'll realise that it's not really an issue as you'll adjust to the game speed pretty naturally. For me it was the other way around. I went from BlazBlue and Arena to Tekken and was a bit thrown off by how every character looked like they were fighting underwater by comparison. It's not that big a deal, but I've seen it turn people off the game before they really gave it enough of a chance to get used to it.
If that ever happen, I would love to see the returning of Yuki. Maybe as a shadow that controls shadows like Teddie. Cuz you know, he's dead, but his spirit still remains. Controlling 3 (Orpheus, Thanatos and Messiah) or 4 (if counting Orpheus Telos) personas at once would be a blast like Margaret.
I would suggest not getting NBA 2k15, I heard from my fiance, who works at Gamestop, that they made the dribbling in the game almost impossible to do. In return a lot of people have brought the game back and bought something else.....Even besides that, you should never pick a sports game over anything else. Wait for that game to go cheap, because it inevitably will. I would honestly try to support both P4AU, and Shadow of Mordor if you could swing it, they're both underrated games that need to be supported so more of them are made.
Xrevenger100 Tekken is slow! The movement of the characters are robotic! The Strokes are emotionless! And who's copying is the Tekken! Now they will include the powerblow Doa5 / animation but the new tekken is terrible compared to the Doa5 Ultimate! Finally now the stage tekken will break and continue destroyed (this is already happening since the old xbox Doa2ultimate)! And the clothes tekken always seemed like it was body paint the characters never seemed fabric! Out women with body travesty !! I'm sorry my friend but you do not know anything! And the transition from one stage to another, the copied tekken too!
If I'm not into fighting games but I'm a super fan of P4, should I play this? Is the fan service enough? Fighting games are too complex for me and take too long to master. I'm not willing to put the time in. Is the story alone worth it?
I'm not a fighting game fan either. And I also love everything persona, especially P3 and P4. If you are interested in story then yes. This game has it. I would recommend getting the 1st Persona 4 Arena game tho too. Because you will be lost. I think they have the 1st Persona 4 Arena game's story as DLC though, so u could get that. Of course, opinions on story and plot will always be subjective so all I can say is that I enjoyed this and Persona 4 Arena a lot. The stories are told in Visual Novel format though. You are essentially reading the story. But you also see the characters and hear their dialogue. There is also a fair amount of fan service. The character designs (especially for the ladies) are gorgeous. And there are galleries where you can check out character images, designs, etc... There are also a few beautifully animated anime scenes and sequences. The Persona 4 Arena games actually made me a fan of fighting games. At first I didn't want to learn, but after a while, I actually enjoyed playing. You can play on the easiest mode. Or, I think, there is an option to auto play through the fights and battles in story mode. So, I would recommend it to you if: You don't mind reading through the story in a Visual Novel format. Other than that you are going to get a polished and pristine fighting game. All I have to say is that the art and character design in these games are just downright beautiful. And the fight animations are polished and smooth. It's like candy to my eyes. Lol
CowardlyKeaboardWarrior Is the story in P4A considered canon? I think I'm going to have trouble playing the game because I suck at fighters and aren't willing to invest the time needed to get good at them. I would end up setting it to easy and making it one round, just to see the endings.
+lostn65 I believe the P4 Arena and P4 A Ultimax stories are canon to the overall persona storyline. Or that is the consensus in many forums about the subject. Personally, I just view it as an addition or an extra chapter to The Persona 4 Lore. I was happy and satisfied with Persona 4 Golden and the epilogue ending. And, canon always is up for debate. I see it as subjective. Canon or not, I personally enjoyed the Persona 4 Arena and P4 Arena Ultimax stories. But I'm also a visual novel fan. If you don't like VNs or reading the entire story, then these aren't the games for you. Anyways, I did what you just described lol. I set the difficulty to easy or auto and focused mainly on the story and endings. BTW, Persona 4 Arena (1st game) had some hilarious stories (especially Chie's and Kanji's paths). I ended up enjoying the fighting, so I now like the gameplay (still a noob tho). Like I said in my other post, the games are gorgeous and stylish. But the gameplay is very technical. There are auto combos (mashing one button) but they are weak. This is all coming from a guy who does not like these style of fighting games. P4 Arena was actually the 1st game in the fighting genre I played since Soul Caliber on the GameCube. Lol.
Im not interested in this cause they left out minato fair enough if there doing things by cannon but im seriously not interested this fighting spin off if hes not gonna be in it
This reviewer knows his shit. Glad you guys kept him around.

thumbs up to this guy for actually knowing about the series , i'm so getting this game!!
IGN is going into serious depth here. Are they actually doing their homework for once? I never thought I'd see the day where they play a game for more than just a few hours.
I can't wait to play as Rise, I love her so much.
They made her so well to
Ya um this comment doesn't need replies like that...go away
1.I live in Europe so I ain't getting the game until November.
2.Are you really that cocky?Well,I can't believe everything I read on the internet.

I think the Persona series and Smash Bros series are great.
They're all blasts for different reasons though
Too bad we have to choose between these two games at the moment if we're on a budget :(.
A lucky bitch like me has both.
They're not even the same genre though...
Now you don't have to choose!
This and Smash bros in the same week this a great week for people that like fighting games. I will be getting both.
Crossover
The clues were there years ago! But None of us knew
The soundtrack is so good.
This is a very good review for a fighting game. Respect to this IGN reviewer
9*.1*? What exactly does the .1 signify?
Decimals in review scores are fucking laughable.
I agree with you 100%

Let me guess, shadow Mitsuru constantly casts Marin karin?
Too bad everyone's playing Destiny, give this great game a chance and play it.
Except if you're a 7 year old annoying shooter-fan kid.
This is by far my GOTY
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is miles better than Blazblue CTB.
It's coming back on PC lads.
what's the difference between the 2012 and the 2014 version ?
GASP an anime fighter got a good score on ign?
EDD: SOMEBODY CALL A DOCTOR!
Here because of the new ps plus games
A fantastic fighting game, and free just puts it over the top
+Megan Kellett same here
Same here just waiting for it to download
+Christian Atwood it's 12 Gigabytes
same lol

I wish the P3 protagonist was in this :(
I know he wouldn't be around by this point in the story.
but COME ON!!!!!!!!!! AT LEAST PUT HIM IN AS DLC :(
Its been a really long time...but i'm glad to still find people online to play, a great game that hopefully will never die c:
@Gabe Newell You finished ranting? Maybe some of us like both companies.
I love this game. I simply can't stop playing!
Like the makoto yuki references
Great review .. the guy that reviewed the game actually knows what he's saying and not just saying anything worthless .. Amazing game :D

Persona 5 arena when
I really want to play this game but I'm confused is this a better version of P4A or a sequel?
Sequel coupled with a bunch of new stuff and re-balancing.
Like skyrim with anime - 9/10 IGN
2021 Steam time.
So... How will this work for me if I never played the first one?(Story mode and gameplay)
I live in Europe, so they removed it from the store.
I have played P4G though...
Can I get this on pc
No
But it’s on Xbox one and ps4
You can now
the first decent review from ign in a long time.
Can someone tell me what's the required spaced for this game on the PS3 disk?
I'm getting this I wonder who I should main S. Yu, Minazuki, S. Akihiko, S. Yosuke, S. Chie, or S. Yukiko
Finally someone from IGN that reviews a fighting game knowing what he is talking about and have knowledge about them.
RUclips recommendations at it's finest

Still relevant today
I'm considering buying this, I can get it for £20 or £30 with a Junes T-shirt and tarot cards, what should I do?
I'm here because it's free on PS+. I still haven't gotten around to playing P4G on the Vita. Damn backlog.
I hope they voice acted every single line. I got pissed off at having to read everything in the last P4A.
***** They voice acted whatever had voice acting. So, yeah, the story mode is probably fully voiced, just like last time.
New GOTY Contender alongside
Shadow of mordor
South park

Reviewed on Xbox. If this was the ps3 ver it could have scored higher. He didn't even comment about online play and the amazing lobby.
Just pre order the game on Steam here for the ancient review lol
Does it have a reply channel like Ultra Street Fighter IV?
You can record & save your replays of Online matches. You can view these replays in Theater Mode. Hope this helped :)

Is this game canon?
Yes is canon
@@ninjabird2115 thanks

dam casul thanks
Is it on ps vita
No but I wish it was.
Im not a fighting game fan but is this worth getting ? I absolutely love persona 4 but idk if I should get this ?:/
you really should. imo it's a very good beginners circuit into the fighting game genre. plus I personally like the story.
Yessss, even if you dont like fighting (which is really good also) the story itself is really good. if you loved the characters from p4 and p3 then you'll defiantly enjoy this.
ALL YO YENS!
YIP YIP YIP!
This game is Godlike.
I can't wait to play as shinjiro...nevermind ;-;
Would anyone recommend playing this to someone who has never watched the anime or played the previous games?Because i both liked and hated the video i mean it was new for me.
I would say, if you're interested in the story you would be more invested and enjoy it having played the previous games. However, it is still a great and fun package.
ok thanks i'll give it a try anyways cause a lot of my friends tell me it's worth it.
***** its definitely worth it man. A lot of content, from single player story and arcade, challenges, versus, to online ranked, lobbies, etc. Plenty of unique characters, and AAA production value here. I'd definitely call it comprehensive.
Thiz is a sequel to arena, which is a sequel to 4
I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend...
Does this game have dual-audio (as in japanese VA and english subtitles or english dub)?have a nice day/night.
dam casul so the english version of the game as also japanese voices(outside of the battles, like in sotry mode fully voiced)?? 'cause i saw a lot of forums stating the contrary, thanks for replaying btw,do u have the game(just checkin')? have a nice day/night and thanks a lot.
Story mode sounds very similar to Blazblue .
If they did a crossover of Blaz and P4 arena that would be incredible.
Unlikely, but if they did, maybe sometime after the console release of Central Fiction. I'm up for that idea by the way. They'd have to make a new battle system though since P4A and BB have different fighting mechanics.
Cool!
Then as Yu and Ragna fight a guy wearing a headbang and red clothes come over to them and says let's rock as the other two ask the newcomer he says he has a Bad Soul and the came to cause Order then later he activates his Gear is none other than Soul Badguy
BBxGGx PA(U)
@@stanwatcham4805 Blazblue cross tag battle is a crossover game of blazblue, persona 4 arena, under night inbirth and rwby.
is this game easy to play? or is it like Blazeblue or King of fighters/street fighter.
Hopefully I don't get bashed by others for this reply but it's a little bit simple than BlazBlue & Guitly Gear but it does require some skill. The game offers some pretty good tutorials & a challenge mode to test out some combos. It's still fun as hell though :)
Like 4 gigs? Maybe 3?
see you soon
I really wish this had come to the Vita :( there's really no reason why It didn't
Hypest fighting game yet
Liked the idea of this
OH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T WAIT IM GETTING THIS FOR CHRISTMAS I LOVED 3 AND THE MOVIE OF 3 I CAN'T WAI ALSO YUKARI IS DA BEST
I wish they'd release this for Wii U
Persona for the most part has been a Playstation thing.
Yeah but Atlus has a lot of colaborations with Nintendo including multiple SMT games even Persona
Heh I do support them, whenever I can and if they are good of course (its also not Wii U fault) like Most Wanted U, Deus Ex and I plan to buy Devil's Third. Im pretty sure this game would sell nice on Wii U since there are a lot SMT fans with it (including me)
***** Exactly why I said for the most part meaning there are a few exceptions.
Indeed as for the upcoming one which it's been in development for a long time now; SMT X Fire Emblem for Wii U
this coming to vita?
Well gotta get ready for waifu wars tew
Better than Smash
can some one tell me if this a upgrade like dlc to persona 4 or a whole new 60 dollar game
It's an entirely new game
Entirely new game with new story mode, 8 new characters, and an entirely new fighting system.
So yeah...I'd say its new.
Raise your hand if you think Marie shitty and hate all of that thundered carp. (Chie, yukkiko, and rise are far superior.)
usually I gather with my friends to play fighting or racing games. we are scrubs by all means. we play mortal kombat and tekken a bit competitively and the most skilled player usually wins but when we play street fighter it's more luck than skill (for us) as we smash buttons aimlessly. if you have played Persona 4, Do you think this game is going to be good for us?
This game might be good for you guys as it has an auto combo mechanic, which means the game gives you a whole combo that usually ends with a super just by mashing square on ps3 or x on 360
Jose Ramirez
thx for responding, buddy.
3 dlc characters replaced by random boxes. lol
Please Atlus, put this on PS4.
If they somehow made an Arena game outta Persona 5 in the future with both the Persona 3&4 cast, I would be overjoyed.
***** Who wouldn't want Yuki to return?
Not sure what to get, this, shadow of modor or nba 2k15
This. Shadow of Mordor will be like 25-30 dollars in like 5 months.
such is the pain of broketober
I would suggest not getting NBA 2k15, I heard from my fiance, who works at Gamestop, that they made the dribbling in the game almost impossible to do. In return a lot of people have brought the game back and bought something else.....Even besides that, you should never pick a sports game over anything else. Wait for that game to go cheap, because it inevitably will. I would honestly try to support both P4AU, and Shadow of Mordor if you could swing it, they're both underrated games that need to be supported so more of them are made.
Heck, I'm having trouble deciding between this and Persona Q coming out in a month and a half.
Nba 2k15 if u just love basketball. Most replay value out of all and everyone is going to have it
November 21st...
This game is amazing!! Blaz blue and Persona 4 Arena is the best 2d fightgame! And Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is the best 3d fighter game!!
Wrong Sir Tekken is the bes 3D fighter game DOA is just a copy
Xrevenger100 Tekken is slow! The movement of the characters are robotic! The Strokes are emotionless! And who's copying is the Tekken! Now they will include the powerblow Doa5 / animation but the new tekken is terrible compared to the Doa5 Ultimate! Finally now the stage tekken will break and continue destroyed (this is already happening since the old xbox Doa2ultimate)! And the clothes tekken always seemed like it was body paint the characters never seemed fabric! Out women with body travesty !! I'm sorry my friend but you do not know anything! And the transition from one stage to another, the copied tekken too!

persona 4 é o melhor jogo para mim :)
persona 4 arena e ultimax tambem sao altamantes!
Hell yeah my girlfriend bought that game for me on the late birthday. 😎😎
got this on PS Plus
Same. This game is awesome.
+lostn65
I believe the P4 Arena and P4 A Ultimax stories are canon to the overall persona storyline.
Lol.
Game looks pretty cool to play.
Im not interested in this cause they left out minato fair enough if there doing things by cannon but im seriously not interested this fighting spin off if hes not gonna be in it
WHEN IS THIS CUMING OUT TO THE UK
Sorry 3ds but i have to go back to Inaba.
