They give you lots of time, some times even a friggin whole week, you can do everything you want without losing story or leveling progression

2nd playthrough pretty much expands on the 1st playthrough in terms of lore and characters, or so I've heard. More or less you get more story when you go through the game a second time.
I would've appreciated it if the reviewer had expounded on the problems with the "stubborn camera" as I found the blurry and sudden shifting of it during battle so jarring and slightly nauseating.
I felt exactly the same. I became slightly dizzy from just watching this video. The reviewer probably didn't want to talk about the negatives too much as she obviously enjoyed the game. It's difficult to say bad things about a game you really like, even if you are trying to give a fair review.
If this game had more care taken into it, it could truly be an amazing game. I love the story, but it isn't easy to understand unless you take your time to piece together every detail, and when I say every detail, I mean EVERY. A lot of the story is hidden behind unlockable documents, which can be easy to miss. I wish the story was a little more up front about its plot. I also wish this game was more than a PSP game with a slightly newer coat of paint, the rough, and aged combat system shows, and isn't too fluid. If there was more time taken care into the story and gameplay, this game would be significantly better.
As everyone says, you have to play multiple times through to fully get those details, you don't need to scrape them around for hours on your first playthrough.

+David Stratton The time constraints aren't exactly time constraints per se. The "time clock" in the game only pertains to a certain amount of actions before the chapter's main mission. (this is going to be long, so bear with me here) For example, I beat chapter 3 or something, then I have 4 days until the next main mission. Each day consists of 12 hours, and actions you do will decrease the time counter. Every time you talk to an NPC with an exclamation mark in Akademeia (the school) will subtract 2 hours from your time, The game even prompts you if you want to talk to the NPC or not, so you have an option there. The NPC's in question usually just give you a usable item like a potion or whatever, so there's some worth. I think when you finish side quests it it also subtracts 2 hours from your time, it's been awhile so I don't remember. Exiting from Academia and entering the world map will subtract 6 hours, but time does not subtract once you're in the open world. And side quests completed in towns will not subtract any time. However, if you take part in Expert Trials and complete them, it will subtract an additional 6 hours. If you just want to go do the main story, you can just go to the Mission Control Room and go straight to the mission. All the side content is a means to experience the world of Orience. This is never designed to be imposing against the player, because you will have plenty of time in game to do most of the side quests. And usually the expert trials shouldn't be tackled until a 2nd playthrough. Which adds to my next point, this game is practically designed to accommodate multiple playthroughs. There's a lot of 2nd playthrough content that doesn't show through the first run through, like new chapter missions, getting your characters strong enough to beat the expert trials. There's even an item in game that lets you game 2 days worth of more time. My personal thoughts about Type-0, it's under-appreciated to a tee. It's more in line with what a Final Fantasy should be than the XIII trilogy ever did in terms of gameplay structure, action-based combat system aside. Yes, the story can be pretty muddled, and it only rewards those who spend hours on end reading most if not all of the Codex entries to really sink the world of Orience into the player's mind, because Orience is a world worthy of being a mainline Final Fantasy world with it's different cultures and world design. Yes, you can see all the PSP design decisions that went into the game that don't translate as well to console. But it's something a Final Fantasy fan should play through at least twice.
+Sad Mario Face I don't doubt that there are day ones still available. This game got thrown under the rug a lot. It's still fun though. 100+ hours in on my 2nd playthrough... Goodness gracious it takes forever to level up in this game since none of my members are anywhere over lv 50 yet. Should try playing in Agito mode where enemy levels are 30+ from Cadet (normal) difficulty. Or what the heck, Finis difficulty, where enemies are 50+ from Cadet difficulty, all enemies have rage status, AND, you can only use one Class Zero member during missions.
Sooo... is the story good? I'm thinking about buying this, but from what I've seen, when people talk about it they talk about everything but the story. I'd like to hear a few opinions :)
wtf why does IGN have to be so dramatic about everything. Cant they just review a damn game without talking about how it moved them to tears every 10 seconds
agreed that it isn't really a "tearjerker" moment that a lot of people are making it out to be, but it perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the game. It does its job by telling the player, "this is a war story, no one is going to come out happy."
As a student studying nursing, my money is extremely limited and I managed to save some money for one game. The question is, this or bloodborne? I'm really looking forward to FFXV and I really don't know what to buy between this or bloodborne as bloodborne seems really amazing, even though it's not out yet.
From a visual standpoint the game is not very impressive, this could have easily been on PS3, being nextgen only it's sales will suffer as a result. Having played the PSP version myself, I can say the characters look nice, but it is not at all interesting. Not worth the cost of admission.
I'm unsure whether to get this. Gameplay looks good. I don't really like the fact there's a timer between missions. Could someone explain how that works? Maybe I just don't understand it properly...
ZeroHxC07 wrong Episode Duscae that comes with type-0 is a stand alone thing and won't be in the final game its only available through the preorder so the map will be in the final game but the missions and scenarios won't be
Is there an "end game" like in other RPGs? That is, when you finish the game, can you then just keep playing and do things like sidequests you didn't do earlier, or grind to level up? It seems like grinding would be difficult, since you only have so much time in between missions. I don't own this game, but putting limitations like that on what I can do and how much is a concern for me, since I won't know what to prioritize. Can anybody tell me if this is a problem at all?
Balthazzarr well, as you progress through the game, you get more free time. Not sure how much going out and grinding uses up, but talking to people with yellow exclamation points over their heads uses up 2 hours. When you're time is used up it's time to do a story mission.
Wait.. so the 2 main negatives are 'bland environments' and 'stubborn camera' ? That's it? I finished this on the PSP and it was one of the greatest RPG experiences I have EVER had, right up until the credits rolled (and even after), the game kept on becoming more and more impressive and moving! And IGN b*tches about the camera and gives it an 8.. And didn't even mention a goddamn thing about the amazing musical score.. And somebody must have gouged their eyes a little bit because the game's environments were artistically stunning. This review did 0 justice to what the game actually is. Eh.. just my opinion I guess.
Elvijs Krūmiņš the camera is horrible i wanted to play the game i really tried but it gave me motion sickness and i abandon it after the 17 min intro i am not kidding the game is in his box never to be touch again, its to close to the character and it moves to fast pair it with the ridiculous blur and you got the worst camera ever put in a 2015 game i know this is and hd version but if the camera was the same in the psp game and they did not repair it here then i cannot possibly force myself to play it sorry the game is dead for me
I find that when i lose all my guys, a message comes up saying, "you shall not parish". Then a huge dude appears for a bit, they i get all my guys back. can anyone explain that to me?
That happens at random, or if you happen to die a lot. Dr. Areca will summon an eidolon for you to control and once the timer runs out/eidolon dues, all your party members revive to continue the mission, though I doubt the same thing will happen twice in a row as the good doctor is a fickle person.
+skudzer1985 Comments like this make me worry about the future of the English language. This review was written at around a 3rd Grade reading level. If you thought that there was a thesaurus involved then you either aren't a native speaker or you're just a dumbass.
aaaah... the fact this was originally a psp title makes so much more sense now. I was stunned at some of the poor lip syncing and textures that looked almost on par with ps2 just with nicer lighting and blur algorithms. that being said, I am still enjoying the game, and knowing it's a port of a portable game will give me some better perspective and expectation management.
STILL BETTER THAN THE WHOLE FINAL FANTASY XIII TRILOGY. Final Fantasy purists should buy this game... just to get something fresh and to forget those... LIGHTING days...
It's funny to me how people say games like Call of Duty or Madden sucks because it's the same thing every year yet we now live in an era where nothing is new.

Don't get me wrong, this looks amazing, the characters are beautiful. But the models who aren't the main cast look very ps2-ish when in game. Then there are the environments, they should have made them more lively than bright, a lot of the places you go are very different but so flat and straight edged.

Cant they just review a damn game without talking about how it moved them to tears every 10 seconds
in tears at opening cutscene....this reviewer...
agreed that it isn't really a "tearjerker" moment that a lot of people are making it out to be, but it perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the game. It does its job by telling the player, "this is a war story, no one is going to come out happy."
MrVince329 yea I turned TV down at that point lol but it does set the tone
As a student studying nursing, my money is extremely limited and I managed to save some money for one game. The question is, this or bloodborne? I'm really looking forward to FFXV and I really don't know what to buy between this or bloodborne as bloodborne seems really amazing, even though it's not out yet.
Bloodborne!
DaBloode - Bornestorm
Get this game.
In the same boat xD
buy this and customer satisfaction guarantee it for bloodborne
so crisis core HD please?
Great review. Looks like a lot of fun despite some PSP legacy issues. Great reviewer IGN, we need more RPGcentric people reviewing games.
Looks like a cheap fun play. Found it for £13. Might buy it. I heard it has a strategic side to it, and I LOVE games with a strategic side to it
Bought this last Christmas an still haven't played it o.O
Ok thanks, I still haven't even opened the game yet and prob never will lol
jeff philly bruh play it, I loved it. I went in knowing it was a PSP game so graphics didn't bother me, I'd give it a 9/10
Ok thanks, I prob will get to playing it sometime
This comment and subsequent comments is funny lol. You guys are cool.
I am finally going to start this tonight. 2 years later lol
Is there an English version on pkgj?
Still the most underrated FF.
I have never played final fantasy, should I just get the new one (15) or this one first for Xbox one?
octoberlife the new one obv
15
octoberlife
15
and play 7 if you can
Super Ultimate RUclipsr I would say X since VII doesn't really hold up. X is also better imo
Omg what a Classy video! Lol you see what I did there? I made a class pun! Hah, classic me! I guess you could say I'm in a class all of my own! 😎
You're a class clown.
***** well that was bit extreme lil fella
***** calls the guy watching anime a loser..... wow the irony on this one is through the roof.
game is great highly suggest buying it, good story fun battle system and its very dark and mature which you dont get as much from this series
Oh please! The opening actually made you cry? >_>
You monster, think about chichiro
I thought this was really fun :) It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it's a good game to play while waiting for XV
This game was way better than XV
From a visual standpoint the game is not very impressive, this could have easily been on PS3, being nextgen only it's sales will suffer as a result. Having played the PSP version myself, I can say the characters look nice, but it is not at all interesting. Not worth the cost of admission.
It could have easily been on Vita too.
I would of picked it up if it was on the PS3 but I guess I will buy it used when ever I buy a PS4.
It could have been ported to the ps2 honestly
And I use an emulator..haha..all free broosss..
I'm unsure whether to get this. Gameplay looks good. I don't really like the fact there's a timer between missions. Could someone explain how that works? Maybe I just don't understand it properly...
+Andypiz I played the game, The timer takes forever to run out, especially later in the game. I didn't really worry about it, I never ran out of time.
wait this game has a time limit just like ff13 lightning returns, no buy
One of my fav PSP games
Not worth getting in my opinion, even though I really want to try the FFXV demo. lol
ZeroHxC07 wrong Episode Duscae that comes with type-0 is a stand alone thing and won't be in the final game its only available through the preorder so the map will be in the final game but the missions and scenarios won't be
Ryui Takagi as far as im aware their is no english patch
There is an English patch of Type-0 on PSP for PPSPP but it is only the English text. But honestly the English audio in Type-0 HD kind of sucks.
Ryui Takagi lol wow you really have some beef with this game.
Elijah De La Rosa yeah alot of other things will be changed too they just wanted to show off most of what the game has to offer! and i like it!
When you're time is used up it's time to do a story mission.
must have! must Have!
Guys we're actually going to play FFXV tomorrow....shit feels weird, really good but weird.
Or be in my case and get it at a midnight launch.
Wait.. so the 2 main negatives are 'bland environments' and 'stubborn camera' ?
They're pretty bland in the HD version and the camera is nausea inducing.
Elvijs Krūmiņš the camera is horrible i wanted to play the game i really tried but it gave me motion sickness and i abandon it after the 17 min intro i am not kidding the game is in his box never to be touch again, its to close to the character and it moves to fast pair it with the ridiculous blur and you got the worst camera ever put in a 2015 game i know this is and hd version but if the camera was the same in the psp game and they did not repair it here then i cannot possibly force myself to play it sorry the game is dead for me
semillakan6 there was a patch that fixed the camera issues.
I find that when i lose all my guys, a message comes up saying, "you shall not parish". Then a huge dude appears for a bit, they i get all my guys back. can anyone explain that to me?
What? You're joking right?I only got Bahamut 0 once but never something like you mentioned
That happens at random, or if you happen to die a lot. Dr. Areca will summon an eidolon for you to control and once the timer runs out/eidolon dues, all your party members revive to continue the mission, though I doubt the same thing will happen twice in a row as the good doctor is a fickle person.
God dammit I was tricked into clicking on a IGN video again...
I was really only getting this for XV but now I'm super excited for both.
Jesus enough with the adjectives! Give the damn thesaurus a break.
+skudzer1985
Comments like this make me worry about the future of the English language. This review was written at around a 3rd Grade reading level. If you thought that there was a thesaurus involved then you either aren't a native speaker or you're just a dumbass.
+frymastermeat And it's words like dumbass, troll, noob, newb, nab, etc. that make me worry about the future of the English language.
"Dumbass" has been around since at least 1959 and is featured in prominent dictionaries. Even Shakespeare used profanity.
Looks fun to me but does it have the same problem FFXIII had where if your party leader dies (while everyone is still ok) you get a game over?
O yeah baby coming out tomorrow going to kick some ass like i did on the psp version. This game is over 9000!!!!
Is it Class 0 or Type 0, Lady?
The game is called Type-0. The group of characters are collectively called Class 0.
Tera Flare for the win my boys one of the best parts of the game!
So what exactly made it an RPG? No mention of anything on the actual systems utilized in the game.
i can't wait to play this and the FF demo
This game is why Rooster Teeth and Square should make a RWBY game together.
aaaah... the fact this was originally a psp title makes so much more sense now. I was stunned at some of the poor lip syncing and textures that looked almost on par with ps2 just with nicer lighting and blur algorithms. that being said, I am still enjoying the game, and knowing it's a port of a portable game will give me some better perspective and expectation management.
I don't know why but the camera doesn't seem annoying to me in this video. Might change when I play the game.
I'm at ebgames about to get this now can't wait to play
100% agree, camera speed and the motion blur has bin patched to work beater now as well :)
What a refreshingly balanced review!
STILL BETTER THAN THE WHOLE FINAL FANTASY XIII TRILOGY.
Final Fantasy purists should buy this game... just to get something fresh and to forget those... LIGHTING days...
This could have been FF XIII all those years ago.
I really enjoyed Final Fantasy 15 and would like to get into more final fantasy games would yall recommend this game?
Christian Garcia yup 👍 it's actually kinda better than 15 from what I've played so far.
Damn this looks fun might have to pick this up
It's funny to me how people say games like Call of Duty or Madden sucks because it's the same thing every year yet we now live in an era where nothing is new.
You shut up! You can either
A. enjoy the Definitive Editions & HD remakes,
or
B. play an Incomplete game (Destiny,Evolve,TitanFall,The Order)!!! Who needs Story/Single player,Gameplay,Graphics AND Multiplayer? hell who needs either of those things! Just pick two of features and be happy!
or
C. Go see a Comic Book Movie or another teen drama book that has been adapted into a Movie.
lol...In All seriousness, Those things I listed aren't ALL bad, besides We still have devs making original content.
Witcher 3,ScaleBound,Quantum Break,BloodBorne,Ori and The Blind Forest, etc.
Though I can perfectly well see what your saying.
xKingx16 what a fucking loser , people like you are victims . we say shit and post and write complaints to get changes made to things we love we are not losers like you who say o to bad i will find something else to do LOL VICTIM
Godslayer 1975 ...You do realize I'm kidding right?
I even agreed with him at the end of my post.
All you had to do was READ.
You just made yourself look like a jackass & a "fucking loser"
GG.
xKingx16 read? this is a video service site. if i wanted to read i'd go to a place that frowns on talking and happiness and makes me pick up huge collections of slaughtered and bleached tree parts.
enishi4ty5 lmao,I'm sorry.
That...that was a good one.
I'm happy that the Demo comes with a game. Usually Demos come by theirselves.
So I got this free with my mobo, should I bother downloading it?
Don't let graphics bother you and you'd probably love this game
C_Cole 96 k ty
its free, so...
Don't get me wrong, this looks amazing, the characters are beautiful. But the models who aren't the main cast look very ps2-ish when in game. Then there are the environments, they should have made them more lively than bright, a lot of the places you go are very different but so flat and straight edged.
Jack and Sever look like Hellishly epic characters... o.O
