Considering the original score was already a high 9 and IGN doesn't do decimal point scores anymore, it was almost a forgone conclusion that an improved version of P5 was going to get a 10.
They (essentially) round down now. They have stated that if something would have scored 6.9 on the old scale it would be a 6 now and original P5's 9.7 would have been a 9. So the 10/10 wasn't quite that clear cut (though like you mentioned not entirely unexpected) .

Just finished the game and i must say this is the most rewarding game i have played over the last 5 years. Absolutely insane the amount of content this game has and how they brilliantly extended the original story. Absolute 10 out of 10 for me.
The best things about this are that they sprinkle in new contents along the way, you will see meaningful new content as early as minutes into the game, unlike in most other games where they just gate the new content behind a "door-to-new-content."

I understood that Atlus' company which is holder of Shin Megami Tensei IP has gone bankrupt somewhere during during P5 development. By the way, SEGA acquired and the studio can continue development which s reason of delay.
it's interesting, the ps3 version actually has performance issues the ps4 doesn't and all assets fit 1080p well, so it's like even though they started working on it for the ps3 they soon realised what most people would be playing it on and focused on that

I think you could have already skipped battles in Mementos if you were super overleveled in the original game. Or at least, you had to attack the Shadows from behind.

I'm not an anime fan. I like Pokemon and Dragon Ball but who doesn't? I dont think that makes me an "anime fan". And I rarely finish long games. Lost interest in Bloodborne, Skyrim, and The Witcher 3 at varying points. I'm usually more into 10-20 hour games. But I put over 100 hours into both Persona 4 and 5 and didn't want them to end. There's something special about these games.
If anyone's not sure about this... Let me tell you I wasn't either. The combat in it didn't really appeal to me... Let me tell you, this game is a masterpiece 10/10 game. It took me 5 hours to learn parts and I enjoyed it but wasn't sold and then another 5 hours to get the hang of stuff properly... Boy after that 10 hours, I played another 81 more and barely put the game down. Enjoyed every second of it. One of the best games I have ever played and I have played A LOT throughout my entire life. One of the best stories in gaming period.
Ehhh , 10/10 is a bit overexaggerating, 8.75 would be the perfect score for this game for overall experience ... you can’t tell me that you read everything without even the slightest of boredom , I’m pretty sure you skipped some , and that is a sign of flaws
Rith Panhapich I didn’t skip a single line of dialogue throughout my whole playthrough. I can say without a doubt that, for me at least, it is indeed a 10/10. This game absolutely sunk its hooks into me and didn’t let up for 150 hours.
It already has wdym? The og game got like 3.2 mil sales and those figures might have risen from last year, and Royal has already gotten records sales in the west apparently. Joker is also in Smash, a world famous fighting game, I would say this game got recognition 🤷♀️

Never understood the hype about this game and how everyone called it a masterpiece, it just seemed like a childish game to me.. but then i bought P5R and boy was i completely wrong and dumb, never judge a book by its cover folks this game is a masterpiece indeed i felt sad and empty inside when i beat it, im officially a fan of this franchise now and will buy Persona 6 day one when its eventually out.

I can kind of see it, but $25 is a pretty dumb tag to put on a major expansion to a game that was originally full retail price. $40 is generally the industry standard for major expansions, but given that this changes the entire game rather than just adding side content or more to the end, I can see why a full re-release was warranted. Especially since it's been 3 years.

After playing 80 hours in the original Persona 5 and already 20 hours in Persona 5 Royal, it’s a much more in-depth game and vastly better battle system bc of the improved Baton Pass which is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all the new content, but given how the majority of the base game is the same as the original Persona 5, this shouldn’t be $60; should have been $30 for people who already owned the game.
Kaden Nah; if there were more enhancements (60fps, less loading screens, true 4K option for Pro) on top of the new content (plenty of which should’ve been in the original game) then I can understand charging more, but definitely not $60. Applauding these releases, as well as “remastered” games encourages developers to resell their games instead of fixing their pre-existing ones. It’s about as anti-consumer as you can get.

The whole story has been completely changed, 40 more hours have been added to the game, a third semester has been added (to get it you must rank up with kasumi, maruki, and akechi, akechi’s confidant is no longer part of the main story) battle system is much better and easier, and kasumi will definitely be important the most in this game since she’s a new character and she’s introduce in the beginning of the game and she’ll be around in the entire story of the game so I dunno why would you think this should be a dlc if they literally changed the whole game.

I got mixed feelings about this game. P5R will definitely be a 10 out 10 game for someone who never played persona 5 and is intrested in turn based JRPGs. But as someone who beat the original P5 twice with over 200 hours in record, I find myself can't justify spending another $80 canadian dollars and probable 100+ hours on a game that has, let's say maybe 70%, the same content. There are just too many new games coming this year man.
Facts. It's cool and all but this game was and is long as hell and i just don't wanna commit the time again since i just beat it 2018. Maybe in the future.
Playing through the prologue of Royal was nothing short of magnificent seven after I've poured over 50 hours into Persona 5...and then Kasumi came on screen for the first time and man...that girl is a natural Phantom Thief, because she stole my heart the moment she first appeared... 😍😍

Persona 5 Royal is my all-time favourite, but Final Fantasy VII Remake comes close imo, it's definitely top 3 for me (I haven't played the original btw).
Atlus Devs have stated in several interviews that they don't want to release the persona games on Nintendo consoles because of Nintendo's censorship terms lol
Man, I’m kinda mad now. I just recently bought the original Persona 5 before Royal came out and am now 50 hours into the game. And to figure out the Royal is the same game just beefed up and better with a bunch of new extra content! Wish I would have known before I bought it.
If you already played the original, I heavily recomend playing the game on merciless difficulty. It really forces you to exploit every aspect off the combat system. I had a real blast.
I am a 90's kid and I played every classic I could on snes and PS1. When I played Persona 5 I felt like a kid again, I was impressed on how much fun this game was and I played Persona 4 and 3 after it. I'll definely play Royal and enjoy this journey all over again.

Talal Abu Issa 100% would recommend, but get ready for a long tutorial and a lot of dialogue. Might be a culture shock for you, but it’s definitely worth it. And this is coming from a guy who isn’t into anime.

Never understood the hype about this game and how everyone called it a masterpiece, it just seemed like a childish game to me.. but then i bought P5R and boy was i completely wrong and dumb, never judge a book by its cover folks this game is a masterpiece indeed i felt sad and empty inside when i beat it, im officially a fan of this franchise now and will buy Persona 6 day one when its eventually out.

Prince Vegeta It’s definitely deserved. This is what happens when you take a JRPG and make it pretty much perfect in every way. The game looks great and plays fantastic, with a soundtrack that... never mind. You know how perfect the soundtrack is.

@Tamer Ciftci he means he already bought the original for 60 and doesn't see why he should have to spend another 60 on the expanded version. I can kind of see it, but $25 is a pretty dumb tag to put on a major expansion to a game that was originally full retail price. $40 is generally the industry standard for major expansions, but given that this changes the entire game rather than just adding side content or more to the end, I can see why a full re-release was warranted. Especially since it's been 3 years.

After playing 80 hours in the original Persona 5 and already 20 hours in Persona 5 Royal, it’s a much more in-depth game and vastly better battle system bc of the improved Baton Pass which is amazing. This is my newly appointed Favorite Game Ever. 2020 is a tough year for games but i’m confident this will win GOTY

Kaden Nah; if there were more enhancements (60fps, less loading screens, true 4K option for Pro) on top of the new content (plenty of which should’ve been in the original game) then I can understand charging more, but definitely not $60. Applauding these releases, as well as “remastered” games encourages developers to resell their games instead of fixing their pre-existing ones. It’s about as anti-consumer as you can get.

The whole story has been completely changed, 40 more hours have been added to the game, a third semester has been added (to get it you must rank up with kasumi, maruki, and akechi, akechi’s confidant is no longer part of the main story) battle system is much better and easier, and kasumi will definitely be important the most in this game since she’s a new character and she’s introduce in the beginning of the game and she’ll be around in the entire story of the game so I dunno why would you think this should be a dlc if they literally changed the whole game.

I got mixed feelings about this game. P5R will definitely be a 10 out 10 game for someone who never played persona 5 and is intrested in turn based JRPGs. But as someone who beat the original P5 twice with over 200 hours in record, I find myself can't justify spending another $80 canadian dollars and probable 100+ hours on a game that has, let's say maybe 70%, the same content. There are just too many new games coming this year man.
Facts. It's cool and all but this game was and is long as hell and i just don't wanna commit the time again since i just beat it 2018. Maybe in the future.
Might not be worth it at all if you're played 200 hours of the original.
Playing through the prologue of Royal was nothing short of magnificent seven after I've poured over 50 hours into Persona 5...and then Kasumi came on screen for the first time and man...that girl is a natural Phantom Thief, because she stole my heart the moment she first appeared... 😍😍

Man, I’m kinda mad now. I just recently bought the original Persona 5 before Royal came out and am now 50 hours into the game. And to figure out the Royal is the same game just beefed up and better with a bunch of new extra content! Wish I would have known before I bought it.

If you already played the original, I heavily recomend playing the game on merciless difficulty. It really forces you to exploit every aspect off the combat system. I had a real blast.

I am a 90's kid and I played every classic I could on snes and PS1. When I played Persona 5 I felt like a kid again, I was impressed on how much fun this game was and I played Persona 4 and 3 after it. I'll definely play Royal and enjoy this journey all over again.

Talal Abu Issa 100% would recommend, but get ready for a long tutorial and a lot of dialogue. Might be a culture shock for you, but it’s definitely worth it. And this is coming from a guy who isn’t into anime.
