When I was at the lowest point in my depression and my will to live was for the most part non existent, I stayed in bed day by day no longer even calling in or responding to work calls. One day my wife brought home this game for me to try and help cheer me up a bit, since she heard so many people liked it and knew it was something I might enjoy. I resonated with game and played it over and over, back to back. I would finish the game and instantly start a new save. I was brought to tears more times than I can count. In the end, I was inspired to get help and take control of my life back. I am ecstatic to pick up the game again once it gets released!
@Deku The Hero At the time she was working at GameStop and neither of us knew much about the Persona series. Someone had turned it in and one of her co-workers gave it high praise. I would really love to obtain all the other games as well. I can only imagine how good the others ones are!
hey trey. I wanted to let you know that I cried when I read this comment because it was the exact same for me. I was in such a bad place that I would skip class for weeks at a time, believing that nothing I did mattered. I was about to end it all when my friend told me about this game, and said that I should play it. I did, and I loved it. At the time, I was helping investigate a harassment claim that eventually led to the victim killing herself. When I played this game and saw how much I related to all of the characters, something in me clicked. There was something so inspiring seeing these characters who I relate to so much make such a difference in their world. Hell, I love the game so much that I burst into tears in a SSBU midnight release party when I watched Joker get announced for SSBU. I'm so excited to play it again, there aren't many people out there who I feel can relate to me but I think I finally found one :)
@@notrocksiza Hey bud, I'm happy this comment found you well. I definitely get what you are saying. Throughout the whole game there was a reoccurring theme of the protagonists suffering from a terrible fate and finding the resolve to change it. It took awhile to really sink in, but I knew no one else could truly save me from my own despair. If I wanted to reclaim my happiness and my life, I would have to fight for it. It's been awhile since I've started my journey and there was plenty more bad, but as of late May, I have truly started gaining some real traction. I have gained new purpose and I'm finding stability and happiness. I hope whatever comes your way, you continue to fight against your fate! :)
@@verondusgames6768 I highly recommend persona 4, play the golden edition on the ps vita if you can. Amazing story and characters. Trust me, you'll love it.
People weren't lying when they say this game isn't just a regular videogame, but an experience. I completely agree, and I'm so glad I got to experience it through Game Pass. What a masterpiece, it's getting me through a lot of things.
I found it on gamepass last week, and have put over 60 hours into it now. Planning on replaying once I finish to do a full completion playthrough (and to rewatch the anime scenes in awe)
I saw the game in sale on ps store. Had no clue what persona was or anything about what the type of game it was just bought it and it was the best decision I ever made.
Bruh literally same. This is my first persona game that I got through game pass and I kid you not, it’s also getting me through a lot. I can’t explain it but I feel like this game is helping me grow in real life. I’ve been taking more risks lately and started putting myself out there more. I know that’s sounds hella dumb, but it’s true 💀💀. I guess the social links/rpg elements inspire me to make strides in my own life.
To be fair, everyone got done dirty in the vanilla. Futaba, Makoto, and Haru only got to be in one 5 second clip, and Makoto and Haru were just still images
Spoilers for P5 and P5R. To be honest, Akechi not appearing in the intro may have been symbolism of him not being an actual member of the Phantom Thieves, and a hint of his inner darkness. He doesn’t appear because he secretly is the guy who sold out the Phantom Thieves, and dies in vanilla P5. Since he’s revived by a Akechi x Joker shipper in P5R, he will appear. And he’s accepted his darkness, and is willing to help them, without being titled the person who sold out the Phantom Thieves, as seen in Maruki’s Palace.
@JAMS Dream The whole reason Morgana was able to come back was because everyone remembered him. Joker chose to remember Akechi so it is entirely possible the one in Royal was actually the real one.
And with Katsumi's rain dance (0:55-1:04), I see what they were trying to do and it would've looked great if the animation was smoother. I genuinely hope that they smooth things out with the OP before release.
@@lightknight3106 Akechi may have had a hard life but no, he can die in a fire. He is a terrible person who made his own choices and deserverese no sympathy, no one forced him to do what he did. He choose that himself.
I like how Joker with the treasure lands and walks away in an evil and malevolent way, it really adds to his cocky character and makes him feel rather dangerous.
hm.. I don't think there's a better intro when you compare this to the Persona 5 intro. they're both designed to do different things. Persona 5's intro welcomes you telling you that "Hey, this is a new persona game with brand new characters and a whole new story!", while Royal's intro conveys more of a "Welcome back, we really missed you".
Agreed but I feel like the movement of the action was a lot smoother in the first. I feel like the kasumi dance could have been better show if not for all the sharp pans where it’s hard to really enjoy or follow the action.
I’m not hugely fond of that. If you never played the original and you now know who you’re gonna recruit it ruins a bit of the surprise. That said...it’s nice to see more of my favorites.
I guess their intent was to show them while not showing them nor what they could do. This is for those who already played that's why we see Necronomicon and Johanna, in the original they were just briefly shown
That feeling you get when you realize that the umbrella flying off while Sumi dances in the street with pouring rain is referencing the exact moment where her sister died.

Remember how the first palace was about how creepy the over sexualization of high school girls is? And that Ann is more than her body? And that while girls can be sexy, forcing them into sexual situations is bad?
Neet Neat a major theme for Kamoshida’s palace and Ann’s introductory arc is about how people see Ann for nothing but her body and that is wrong and very damaging. However, the rest of the game seems to forget that and both drops Ann’s pretty powerful arc about taking back control of her body image and not letting people exploit her. Like, they’re very clearly going for a femme fatale thing (there’s even a question about it in class and her persona is a very famous femme fatale) but Ann never really acts like that. She doesn’t use her sexuality and draw power from it, she is repeatedly forced into sexual situations she’s explicitly very uncomfortable with (Yusuke pressuring her to strip, the cruise ship pool, ect). Like, there’s nothing wrong with her being hot but she never really is allowed any agency in regards to it. She’s never the one to suggest using her beauty, she’s always pressured. Hell, she even tries to cover herself up upon awakening her persona once she realizes how she’s dressed rather than revelling in it as a symbol of power. She could have had a more interesting arc that builds off her strong introduction by perhaps exploring the potential exploitation of young women in the model industry rather than just her own work ethic which would have also related to the overall theme of rebellion against exploitative adults using the youth for their own gain. But, it’s just dropped and a lot of Ann’s character is instead used for one off gags and fan service and the fan service would be fine except it’s not Ann being a powerful and sexy woman, it’s about people finding ways to make Ann strip against her will. If she was allowed to be more confident about her sexuality, or perhaps her character arc was about her becoming more confident in her sexuality as she throws off the prejudice she’s been dealing her entire life then that’d be fine, but Ann’s character is instead reduced to the trope of hot girl because Atlus needs fan service rather than the much more interesting and angry Ann we see in the first part of the game. Which is why Ann shaking is ass in the opening is very pointless to me and also seems to go against a lot of what was in the first section of the game. (Okay, maybe I’m being a little dramatic because Ann has lots of good moments throughout the game and I love her like I love all the cast but there’s a sort of disconnect is regards to her writing from moment to moment and the Ann in the first part of the game is no doubt the most strongly written)
Neet Neat I guess. I just find abandoning otherwise strong themes, missed character arcs and making characters act in out of character or unsympathetic ways for the sake of gags or fan service one of my pet peeves. (I’m still frustrated by the hot springs scene in P4)
P5R: "Akechi joins the harem." Protagonist: "Oh god no, if I ever cheated on him, he wouldn't hesitate to glock me!" P5R: "It gives you the incentive to not be a cheater, Protagonist." Akechi: "Hmm? If he ever cheated on me, I would do what I did to his cognitive self in Sae's Palace: shoot him in the head. And this time, I wouldn't regret it." Protagonist: "Okay, OKAY! I won't cheat on you! I promise!"
P5R is made with the intention that you've already played, or at the very least have heard of, P5 the original. Atlus isn't dumb enough to release a new game using the same theme as the original and its kinda odd to see so many people essentially saying "its too different from the P5". If they played off the "mysterious phantom thieves" like the first OP, then it just falls flat. We already know the main cast at this point, the introduction stage is long past gone. Sure the plot may/most likely will differ from the P5 in certain aspects, but the characters archetypes aren't changing. P5R works off of that and shows more of the depth that the game will have between characters. We know who's a part of the team, we know they're going to come together eventually. There isn't a *need* to have them be individuals like in P5 where the status of every character was unknown. Compare the actual content of the videos. P5 OP has a lot of individual shots with a great amount of attitude for each character (And don't get me wrong its still a fantastic piece of art). But how many scenes do you see of the characters in the same shot or even interacting with each other? Hardly any in comparison. And that was one of the primary complaints of the game. Besides key moments in the plot, the Phantom Thieves never actually did anything that would make you think these people were anything more than casual acquaintances. For a game based on making bonds with people it was oddly the weakest aspect. P5R is showing that Atlus has fixed that. They are going to be real believable friends (as odd as that sounds). We're going to see how they play off one another, both in real life and as PT's, not just 7 people being Akira's friend with 0 interaction outside of his existence. Could it have used a little more attitude like P5? Sure. But I'd rather they play it a little safer like they did here than to overdo it and go straight up edge lord. The line to walk to get an opening like P5 is a thin one, and its already incredibly hard to strike gold once.
@DeadMemes NeedToStayDead I mean, it depends. Are you willing to grind Personas, do all the side confidants/social stats, etc all over again? Do you have friends that are going to play P5R and thus you want to keep up to date with them? Do you care about spoilers? In terms of content, most secondary persona games are actually pretty worth while if we go by history. There are new mechanics, new dialog trees and new cutscenes that may take the story in a different direction. If you care about the overall story and want everything to be new and novel, then I say buy it when it comes out. Personally I'm a broke POS that can't afford games at launch so I usually watch youtube vids of games until they price drop. I'm perfectly ok with getting spoilers, but I know I'm in the minority.
LaggSoBad I kind of strongly disagree with your assessment. The entire cast felt like a really believable group of friends to me, and they all had unique dynamics with each other. We get multiple days of the entire group trying to form connections with Futaba: not just Joker. The only one who doesn’t really have unique relationships with everyone is Haru because she joins so late. But I absolutely believe Ryuji, Yusuke, Ann, and Makoto are all friends without Joker.

1:19 LIGHT YAGAMI CONFIRMED FOR P5R Edit: I made this comment when I was in Madarame's palace in p5 vanilla and I feel ashamed for saying this about the absolute best character in p5 and p5r
The symbolism of Joker and Akechi lying in the crushed, beautiful diamonds, symbolizing the ideal world, while lying in opposite directions, with Joker smiling. His eyes are closed, because he isn’t seeing the truth, and he’s smiling because he’s seeing the ideal reality for himself. Whereas Akechi’s expression is more akin to someone who is asleep, and his eyes aren’t closed because he can’t see the truth. And yet, his presence there is the reason Joker is smiling. Just a theory.
It hurts seeing that Akechi is already lying there with a neutral face making reference to his situation outside Maruki’s reality while joker is ignorant
Definitely prefer the original opening a good deal more especially as it included the twins and Igor with a better song for me. But this one we get the whole team up and center in it which is probably the one good thing I like about it.
It also really assumes you've played the game, unless you really looked at the first one, Makoto, Futaba, and Haru pass by so fast that - unless you watch it over and over your first few times playing - your brain probably won't fully comprehend them, meaning their joining is still a fun surprise.
ReallyRoland nah Games have characters so you can really spoil yourself It also sucked that all 3 had no real correlation to each, other than the fact that they are female and are Thieves, and yet we’re grouped together like they ran out of space for all of them That’s the only bad thing in the intro though and it’s so minor
Emiliho I don’t see them reusing the mask mechanic for this reason: the method of summoning Personae heavily depends on the theme of the game. As cool as the masks are, it’s highly unlikely Atlus will reuse the same concept in Persona 6.
Emiliho I agree! I still get chills at each awakening scene when I replay the game, they are really brilliant. I hope they continue to make awakenings super dramatic even without masks.
Davidevan84 Firstly the persona gimmicks for neo-Persona (3-5) are unique for a reason. (Major spoilers for P3 below) In P3-Evokers are used to call forth personas, where you literally shoot your self in order to bring out your innermost self. I love the way Personas are handled in this game the most, as it shows (SPOILERS AHEAD) in both Yukari and Shinjiro’s cases; personas can go beserk (Yukari when she is dreaming of Io choking her, and Shinjiro since he can’t control his persona leading to him committing involuntary manslaughter). We sometimes confide ourselves to these personas and for some people it is the only persona they have. Think back in Shinjiro’s case. When you first encounter him, he’s played off to be a edgy, laidback guy, working in the shadows. When he joins your party, you find out he is an avid cook, with a caring personality, this being the reason he left Sees in the first place. I see this as a concept that people can’t change the personas they set up for themselves. In P4-(his is going off of muscle memory, I really don’t remember too much about P4 besides major twists in the plot) Tarot cards are used, you (insert Yu joke here) break them In P5-Masks are used, to convey a sense of the personas we wear in our daily lives. The interactions between your daily school life and the meta verse cement this fact as well. We (P5 context) wear the masks of honor students and of rebellious thieves, switching to and fro from these different aspects of ourselves.
This part was just badly done tbh. I don't understand why they had to just make the camera move so crazy here. It's like watching a fight scene with a bunch of jump cuts.
This opening was animated by A-1 pictures. Then, the original ice skating opening is animated by I.G production. And the director of yuri on ice for choreography Why?
Just because it's not the same studio doesn't mean that it's not the same people who will work for the project. In Japanese animation industry a big majority of them are freelancer and work for differents company. When a company don't enough time, they put the people who are under a project and calls for help to other company (wich why so many times you have an opening/ending who is so differently animated than the actual show itself. And the quality depend of the actual capacities of the animators and key animators. If you calls good animators but bad key animators. It's going to be bad. Same on the reverse. To make a good thing they have reach to differents artist but sometimes those artist can't do better because they have a time limit (13 episodes etc) wich why you can end up with things like Charlotte or Aldnoah Zero, great beginnig, great music artist, but great writers who have to cut parts because the story they wanted to tell cannot be tell cuz not enough time to make the whole into 13 episodes. And it's not a story of budget (since it has a very little part to do with the actual show, the budget will be use mostly to reach a very great animator/designer who are specialized into something like effects, fights, movements etc). If you pick the animators and key animators at a great time, you will be cool. For example : Soul Eater not was a flop not because it was not directed by Bones but because the majority of people who made the show great didn't worked on the project or where working on other big projects. Same thing for One punch man 2.
I can't get enough of the strings section in this song. They're so jazzy and played with so much attitude I love it. And Lyn's beautiful voice is the delicious icing on the cake.
I feel like in a way it's unfair to compare P5's intro to P5R, the original is a bit more nostalgic and shows a darker tone. Like the phantom thieves were rising up against an unfair and cruel world (which is basically p5 in a nutshell.) But P5 Royal is like they have done this before and are having fun with it, like the diamonds kind of representing their fame, they break down the eyes watching them because its like being looked down upon by others, and overall it just seems like they are used to it and are having fun with it.
Spoiler for Persona 5 Royal: I feel like it more of a reference to the Third Semester. At the beginning you see them stealing stuff like the phantom thief’s and their no Akachi like in the original game. But when you get to the diamond part you see them being perfectly happy, even Akachi there not acting crazy. Their even wearing their new winter outfit. The breaking of building represents the removal of all the negative stuff that happened in their life. The lyric even represent this: - Tell us who to love and who to hate - Will the memories of our morales fade - Staying true to your own conversation in this haze These message represents how what they did is dispersing. They even destroy the creepy logo on the buildings. And the fact that Joker and Akachi are framed together represents how they are the only people who know. In the end the last shot of Joker in Uniform represents him decide to do one last job and put the world back where it belong.
@@prettyoriginalnameprettyor7506 I mean in a way of "oh this is different therefor its bad" they are different in comparison, but I don't think its fair to say a darker song is better than a more upbeat song just because the darker song is what you like more.

Looking back, there’s a LOT of new story stuff alluded to in this intro, in a way you don’t notice until after the fact. For example, did you notice Akechi’s only seen lying across from Joker? It’s almost as if he exists in that moment exclusively for Joker...
I'm a newcomer to the series but I absolutely love the presentation and aesthetic of the game. The funky jazz tone and fun beat told me this was gonna be something special.

@JAMS Dream Morgana is a cognition in the same way that Igor is, I'm fairly certain that he's resident of the velvet room
And with Katsumi's rain dance (0:55-1:04), I see what they were trying to do and it would've looked great if the animation was smoother. I genuinely hope that they smooth things out with the OP before release.

My exact thoughts.

Remember how the first palace was about how creepy the over sexualization of high school girls is? And that Ann is more than her body? And that while girls can be sexy, forcing them into sexual situations is bad?
@@xxgirl101xx What?
@@xxgirl101xx Yeah you're just getting a bit too dramatic over it but I get it.
Neet Neat I guess. I just find abandoning otherwise strong themes, missed character arcs and making characters act in out of character or unsympathetic ways for the sake of gags or fan service one of my pet peeves.

@@breastskunsreviews1631 what
This Valentine's Day with Akechi expansion is getting out of hand.
P5R: "Akechi joins the harem."
Protagonist: "Oh god no, if I ever cheated on him, he wouldn't hesitate to glock me!"
P5R: "It gives you the incentive to not be a cheater, Protagonist."
Akechi: "Hmm? If he ever cheated on me, I would do what I did to his cognitive self in Sae's Palace: shoot him in the head. And this time, I wouldn't regret it."
Protagonist: "Okay, OKAY! I won't cheat on you! I promise!"
Emiroma, yeah you right
P5R is made with the intention that you've already played, or at the very least have heard of, P5 the original.
Really great analysis
LaggSoBad I kind of strongly disagree with your assessment. The entire cast felt like a really believable group of friends to me, and they all had unique dynamics with each other. We get multiple days of the entire group trying to form connections with Futaba: not just Joker. The only one who doesn’t really have unique relationships with everyone is Haru because she joins so late. But I absolutely believe Ryuji, Yusuke, Ann, and Makoto are all friends without Joker.

Honestly.
I never played OG P5 and I actually thought to myself ‘since when was Light Yagami in this game’
Akechi looks like Light because of his thinner face in this shot lol
The symbolism of Joker and Akechi lying in the crushed, beautiful diamonds, symbolizing the ideal world, while lying in opposite directions, with Joker smiling. His eyes are closed, because he isn’t seeing the truth, and he’s smiling because he’s seeing the ideal reality for himself. Whereas Akechi’s expression is more akin to someone who is asleep, and his eyes aren’t closed because he can’t see the truth. And yet, his presence there is the reason Joker is smiling.
Just a theory.

It also sucked that all 3 had no real correlation to each, other than the fact that they are female and are Thieves, and yet we’re grouped together like they ran out of space for all of them
That’s the only bad thing in the intro though and it’s so minor
Cylus O'Brady nah I think this is great I hated it at first but it has a much more neat and smoother art style
Never have and never will skip this opening! It’s way too amazing and too great to miss, not even once!
I really wish they would remake Persona 3 and 4 with this article style and mechanics. It would be amazing
Emiliho if you mean using multiple personas that was already a thing
Emiliho I don’t see them reusing the mask mechanic for this reason: the method of summoning Personae heavily depends on the theme of the game. As cool as the masks are, it’s highly unlikely Atlus will reuse the same concept in Persona 6.
Emiliho I agree! I still get chills at each awakening scene when I replay the game, they are really brilliant. I hope they continue to make awakenings super dramatic even without masks.
Davidevan84 Firstly the persona gimmicks for neo-Persona (3-5) are unique for a reason. (Major spoilers for P3 below)
In P3-Evokers are used to call forth personas, where you literally shoot your self in order to bring out your innermost self.
In P4-(his is going off of muscle memory, I really don’t remember too much about P4 besides major twists in the plot) Tarot cards are used, you (insert Yu joke here) break them
In P5-Masks are used, to convey a sense of the personas we wear in our daily lives. The interactions between your daily school life and the meta verse cement this fact as well. We (P5 context) wear the masks of honor students and of rebellious thieves, switching to and fro from these different aspects of ourselves.
Yeah especially for newer fans drawn to persona 5
0:56 I feel like I'm having a seizure. That camera movement really disorients me.
This part was just badly done tbh. I don't understand why they had to just make the camera move so crazy here. It's like watching a fight scene with a bunch of jump cuts.
I kinda liked it
@@numberbndl3763 It ain't that bad, just wish we could've seen her move without the shakey camera here.

This opening was animated by
A-1 pictures.
Then, the original ice skating opening is animated by I.G production. And the director of yuri on ice for choreography
Why?
Raynaldi Sutedjo where’d you read that this opening was done by A1?
Sune You can just tell based on the animation style.
Yeah the quality ain’t that great here
『Platnum Breaker』 Something about how A-1 does faces just stands out.
Same thing for One punch man 2.
when akira fell down smiling next to akechi:”)
Ren*
TrueNJ no I hate the anime name for him it’s so basic
That scene brings a smile to my face Uwu
TrueNJ canon name? Yes
Best name? Nope
Akira sounds better
And Akechi is like: u.u
I can't get enough of the strings section in this song. They're so jazzy and played with so much attitude I love it. And Lyn's beautiful voice is the delicious icing on the cake.
0:58 after finishing royal- this scene makes more sense now and now I feel emotional damage
I feel like in a way it's unfair to compare P5's intro to P5R, the original is a bit more nostalgic and shows a darker tone.
Like the phantom thieves were rising up against an unfair and cruel world (which is basically p5 in a nutshell.)
But P5 Royal is like they have done this before and are having fun with it, like the diamonds kind of representing their fame, they break down the eyes watching them because its like being looked down upon by others, and overall it just seems like they are used to it and are having fun with it.
Spoiler for Persona 5 Royal:
I feel like it more of a reference to the Third Semester. The lyric even represent this:
- Tell us who to love and who to hate
- Will the memories of our morales fade
- Staying true to your own conversation in this haze
These message represents how what they did is dispersing. They even destroy the creepy logo on the buildings. And the fact that Joker and Akachi are framed together represents how they are the only people who know. In the end the last shot of Joker in Uniform represents him decide to do one last job and put the world back where it belong.
“it’s unfair to compare”
proceeds to spend the entire comment comparing the themes of the two
@@prettyoriginalnameprettyor7506 I mean in a way of "oh this is different therefor its bad" they are different in comparison, but I don't think its fair to say a darker song is better than a more upbeat song just because the darker song is what you like more.
you could say the same about P4 vs Golden itro
@@zavaraninoveuhorky true. p4's intro is way more serious than golden's intro

0:15 Persona 4 The Animation reference - Name of Episode 1
P5R intro is so hype, I can’t wait for the game to release!!
Looking back, there’s a LOT of new story stuff alluded to in this intro, in a way you don’t notice until after the fact.
For example, did you notice Akechi’s only seen lying across from Joker? It’s almost as if he exists in that moment exclusively for Joker...
and the helicopter with joker hanging off with his grappling hook is the exact same thing that happens when they are escaping the new palace
Hes there at around 0:50 aswell tho
Except he doesn't appear only during that time

The way Noir bows before hitting the building. Is too cute
I'm a newcomer to the series but I absolutely love the presentation and aesthetic of the game. The funky jazz tone and fun beat told me this was gonna be something special.

Kasumi: hold my umbrella
No really please hold it I can't get a grip on it and it's trying to fly away this isn't dancing
Nothing can beat dabing train joker
