  • Hello again everyone!!
This video is my very chaotic attempt at making a skirt for my new renaissance festival/faire costume! I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out overall and I'm looking forward to starting on the corset next 🧚🏻‍♀️
**disclaimer I do not know much about sewing and it shows in this video😃 I'm so sorry but this is all in the name of fun**
thanks for being here! have a great day!!

"I don't have a pattern, I just have a dream." Followed by instant overwhelm ahahha, I feel you !
For the elastic, if you don't want it to twist inside the channel, you can tack it to the lining in a few places so it's invisible from the outside but holds it in place, even if you were to wash the skirt.
To compensate for the different stretch in both fabrics and seams, you can hang it for a few hours (or ideally overnight) and it'll stretch, then you can cut the pannels again to be identical and even out the hemline. It adds a little bit of work but it can make the difference :)

You are such an angel for both of these tips!! 🫶🏻 Thank you so much!! I will definitely be giving both a try!! It always helps to have someone with a different set of eyes on a problem because I get tunnel vision and assume there’s only one way (or sometimes no way) out of a problem lol!

I genuinely enjoyed your video style/content so much, absolutely subbed for your personality tho!
In the case of the skirt hem, I’d highly recommend letting your skirt settle so you can trim the bottom hem once it’s done stretching if you have time!
The skirt hem becomes all wonky due to the bias (diagonal stretch) of the fabric warping over time leading to the puckering once the bias tape (or seam casing as I call it) is sew one and the garment is worn.
If I’m crunched for ren faire time I’m an absolute gremlin and leave my hems open for maximum chaos 😂
(I’m sorry if this came off anyway weird! I’ve worked at Joann’s too long and have too many renfaire/reenactor friends to not share the knowledge!)

Two months late, but the bunching thread is actually because of a tension issue with the bobbin. It’s a problem with some Brother machines. You can fix it by winding a new bobbin and using it. Also, I am glad that I found your channel. I love watching detailed costuming/sewing vlogs while I work on my own creative projects. So you definitely have a new subscriber.

That is so helpful thank you!! I’ve struggled with that since I’ve started so I’m very glad to hear there’s a simple solution.
Thank you for your kind words too. They mean so much! I really appreciate your tips and that you took the time to comment!
I also love watching videos of others sewing while I work on my own projects, it helps me stay motivated!
