Sewing can be great even when you're sad. Especially when you're sad. So don't avoid sewing when you're sad.
In this sewing vlog I am sewing the Plumeria Top by Paradise Patterns which was kindly gifted to me by Sanna and I am talking to you about why you should still choose to have a go at sewing even when you’re sad. Especially when you're sad.
We’re born to create. And whilst the act of creating, has so many layers of meaning to it, maybe one layer is that creating is a way to fight our battles.
Maybe we’ve been gifted the act of creating as a way to push back darkness.
A way to find light.
A way to stay grounded when life feels like a storm.
A way to be strong when everything seems to go wrong.

For this project I used a sewing machine, scissors, rotary cutter, cutting matt, clipping shears, seam ripper, iron, pins and interfacing.
Everything is filmed and edited by myself.

I own three sewing machines and a serger..when I face a difficult time, I no longer create..but, rather I go into a shell emotionally..I am beginning to power through whatever comes my way now. Thank you for acknowledging the sentiment. Sometimes we have to move out of our own way!

You are so right a out the enemy using our sadness! After my mom died I didn't see for a few months. I finally b realized that my mom was my biggest cheerleader and would want me to sew. I am so glad of God and His goodness.

Grief is an important process, it honors the value of what we lost, whether a home or a dear sister. So grieve, with all of the truth of those feelings, but with hope. And creativity is the physical manifestation of that inner hope. I've had many moments in the last year when that is hard to remember, but the moments when I do manage to get my lips above the water and get a breathe are usually when I am doing something creative. I'd call that blouse a good job remembering to hope.
Feelings need to be felt for sure. “A good job remembering to hope” oh I love that so much! X

I’ve cried almost everyday and sometimes several times a day since my mom passed away October 3, 2020. I have a little sewing room and sewing was something we had in common. I haven’t been able to really get back into sewing since she passed away. I’ve recently started organizing my sewing space in hopes that it will get me motivated. I miss her dearly and want to honor her memory with all of her patterns, fabric and sewing notions that I acquired. I’m praying that starting to sew again will help heal my heart and take away some of the pain of losing her.
God bless you. My mum passed the same year. Of course you would miss your mum everyday. When tears want to fall from my eyes, I remember the good times we shared and her words of encouragement & guidance. It is hard ❤
@@sandielloyd7530 God bless you too! Crying helps to relieve some of the pain, but in the mist of it all, I draw on the good memories and the woman I am because of her. I now realize she is the love ❤️ of my life! I just wish I had told her that……. I hope she knew that!

I found that i only truly knew the depth of my love for my mum when she had gone. I take comfort that I was able to care for and be with her night and day over the days it took her to pass. It was lockdown, so I simply moved in.

Can totally relate to you. I too have to move in June end to a new city. And I thought I will again start sewing in August. But I picked up a blouse and decided to start with small alterations to keep it going. May you find a lovely house. 🪷

Hey i feel your sadness, its a shock to be lifted out of your home when you have just settled. You have a great up beat personality and i know you will figure it out. Things generally work out, i have had a lot of upheaval in the last few years. Involved removing a difficult tenant so I could sell my family home, which was where i raised my now grown up children. I am now very settled in my forever home these last 2 years and it has been challenging making it my own, but finally i have and i am settled with my new cat family lol and one of my sons living 5 mins walk away. Things will be good and i am sure you will love your new home when you find it. Praying for a successful transition for you and your family. Much love ❤

I totally agree. Sewing is very therapeutic for me. I just wanted to say something I noticed. When you set your iron in the metal holder. I have this & noticed you sat it flat. It sits angled with the irons pointed end against the metal piece the protrudes down. It is safer if a child bumps it. It keeps it secure.❤

We had to move suddenly last year just before Christmas in a similar situation, thankfully we are now in a lovely new house. There were alot of tears and anxiety, I understand the upset but your positive video and lovely outfit brought a smile, thanks for sharing x

In January I really wanted to join a playgroup and I was so nervous about it, about the people, about how it will go, but after four weeks of debating, I finally took the plunge and forced myself to go. I have a tendancy to crawl under a rock and become inert when things are not going how I would like but as you say so well, why turn away from what makes you happy? These an amazingly fun thing that happens when you make your own clothes for a while. After a couple years you find that you need to mend and recut re sew your favourite garments. And it makes the small mistakes you make when sewing easier because you can fix them later and you’ll mend it later already so mending it now is fine.
Such wise words. Totally right. The more you sew, the better you get at it, the more courage you have to pick up something you've made and make it even better. x
Super Glue…SO BRILLIANT! FABULOUS IDEA! Will hold for life, won’t wash out, won’t melt in dryer!!! Always press your seams…So True….A “sort of” metaphor for life… I get so mad at myself when I clip my project Argh! But…I’m pretty good at fixing disasters, which is necessary for life! My life anyway :) So there’s that. And By the way, that cute fabric looks great framing your adorable face! It is Sooooo You! YAY! My takeaway from this video is, when you feel crappy, dance, sing and pretend to be happy… I’m going to bake a cake now lol you have inspired me! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You will find an even cuter cozy house! I just did a similar thing the other day with the slice in the material after all that work! I tried taping with fusible tape but it didn’t look good, so i made a little heart patch with contrasting fabric and looks like it was meant to be.🩵

Please do not be sad. Things go up when it hit the bottom. Donot let emotion control you, it’s devil. I recommend one of books that I read - The secret by Rhonda Byrne. It somehow makes me feel I need to be positive when things are down and not as expected . The positivity attract good things, the negativity will attract bad energy . Hope that this will help you :)

I always look forward to your uploads. My favorite cozy sewing content! I’m sorry you have to leave your home, I understand the uprooted feeling very well. We recently moved apartments and while I’m very grateful for our newer/bigger place, I still feel as though I haven’t settled and it makes me anxious at times! It takes a while to make a new place feel safe and cozy and like home. I feel like I have just managed to do that, we only moved in less than a year ago, so yes I completely understand! I love how your top turned out it's gorgeous and that fabric definitely deserves to be worn. Love that you showed your mini me your work in progress. And that you're honest to all about emotions and life. Honestly it made me teary eyed when you talked about how creation and creativity is our saving grace in life I have clinical depression and I'm also a creative and let me tell you sewing and writing is literally what keeps me going. I love this video and how you share a little bit of your life with us in this style of video. I too feel like when I'm sad I want to see nothing good I push happy things away and I struggled thinking I didn't want to be happy and have realized sadness and fear are really just thieves(you put it so nicely with that word) and that we shouldn't let them continually steal from us. This video resonated with me, thank you.
