Get yourself a good basic sewing book. It will get you through basic order of operations, directional stitching, understitching, pressing...basic fitting.. Fastening interfacings etc. It sound redundant because you've got the internet but get the book or ebook If you were plus size, I'd recommend Jenny Rushmore. I have heard good things about Mimi G, Fully and the Buttons, and Gretchen Hirsch (Gertie of Charmed Patterns) They all have patterns included.

Wonderful job pushing through! I agree with others who commented about the fabric… the pattern is probably meant for a fabric with more drape like a rayon, fine linen, a knit or even a thin gauzy cotton. The fabric you used looks like more of a quilting cotton, which is better for a more structured pattern. Learning about fabrics is my favorite part of the sewing journey❤

You did a great job getting it to be more fitted. It is really hard learning to make something fit to your form. I would suggest darts in the back to get more fitted without messing with the zipper and pulling too much. It looks cute on you as is though.

I think that you can email the pattern company and they will send you the instructions for an out of print pattern. I have this pattern and I absolutely love it, it was one I used when I first started sewing

If the neck line in big enough, you can make it without a zipper and pull it over

Props to you for sewing a dress without the directions. I think you can normally clean finish the armholes using the burrito method. Anytime you have a lining or "facing" along the armholes, it usually works really well. Thats awesome that it was your grandma's fabric.

sometimes people will comment what you should improve and give no credit where credit is due. Well I loved the fabric choice, I can tell you're really trying by not giving up!! Don't worry the more and more you sew you will improve just focus on small improvements I'm sure you learned alot from this project 🫶🏻😊 getting a cheap muslin or thrifted fabric to "mock up" (make a first draft and more if needed) and checking the sizing chart on the pattern will help in fitting. What type of fabric are u using?

Tip when it comes to using patterns....measure yourself, then the pattern width and compare. Tip 2. Do a mock-up. Even intermediates come across problems. You should redo that dress.

Really cute, that pattern will look nice in strech fabric or softer fabric.

Hi there! for the gathered part in the bust, is there notches on the bottom part that you sew it to? I came across this in a pattern before and what you can do is: - long stitch between the bust points like you are making a ruffle - pin the bust and bottom piece together at the notches (you will notice how much fabric needs gathering together) - pull the ruffle gathers together till it lays flat - sew over the ruffle

Two months late, but the bunching thread is actually because of a tension issue with the bobbin. It’s a problem with some Brother machines. You can fix it by winding a new bobbin and using it. Also, I am glad that I found your channel. I love watching detailed costuming/sewing vlogs while I work on my own creative projects. So you definitely have a new subscriber.

Doing by learning is a win. Knit fabric and corsets do not mix. Heavy woven non-stretch fabric works best. Binding with bias tape will help with puckering. (Making your own with the checked fabric would be awesome!). I think the silver trim would look good with the checked bias binding. You’ve already got some tips for the boning. 👍 Keep in working to improve your skills. Use the patterns as guides. I would take the suggestions for fabric types that are on the pattern. Takes courage to try new things esp. putting them out on RUclips! Keep it up!!

lol when you showed the lace trim i thought the same thing "is it concert or picnic" i'd maybe take it too far myself and try putting the trimming over the seam where you added the second piece for length, but i have very limited sewing knowledge lol maybe that'd help break it up, but then it might be a weird spot to create sectioning so idk :)
