It makes me so incredibly happy when I hear someone finally "gets" metal. I listen to most genres, but metal will always be what I listen to the most. It's definitely the most diverse genre. Something for everyone.
i don’t understand why some of the reviewers want to review performances that, let’s be honest, are from shows when bands were past their prime. that seattle 89 concert is one of the most epic concerts of all time
@@cwugrad396 to be fair a lot of the reaction channels are only responding to videos they've been recommended. I would've preferred the Seattle 89 performance as it was absolutely epic. But I expect more people who are not familiar with that performance reccomended this version to Maggie instead.
The music itself describes (drug) addiction. It starts fast and hard, like someone needing a fix. The dropout to the gentle, melodic guitar solo repersents the euphoria after taking the drug, slowly getting faster and harder as the drug wears off. It ends even harder and faster than the opening, as the need for another fix is amplified by the realization that it all is part of a vicious, destructive cycle.

What is amazing about Metallica to me is how FAST they end up playing live. This is almost a full two beats faster than the studio version. The only live performances where they reign it in are the S&M ones and that's because they are keeping it slow for the orchestra.
The best live version of this song that I have seen is Seattle 1989. It is widely available. Please, check it out. There is no "official" video for this song. It was written in 1986. Their first video was for the song "One" in 1988.
It’s definitely live with post production clips. This was part of their band produced concert/movie called “Through the Never” which pretty much flopped. This is also known as a board recording with minimal or no overhead mics being use to cut down on the audience “bleed through” Straight from the miked speaker cabs, drums and vocal mics, right into the mixing console and signal processed.
Video is made of scenes from Metalica's full feature movie "Throught the fire". In that movie a story is mixed with live footage they recorded on two special gigs. There are no CG effect in live scenes (they really did that). Concert shows most important band "iconography" with parts of many Metalica's album covers and band plaing all their hits. Story starts at begining of that show when young roadie is asked to retrive something from broken car. He goes through the city and during the trip reality slowly turns into dream-is nightmare.

The issue with this awesome video is that is produced specifically for the Metallica movie; there are other purely live recordings where you can gage the crowd interaction better.
Metallica are: James Hetfield - Lead Vocals and Rhythm guitars Lars Ulrich - Drums Kirk Hammett Lead Guitars and backing vocals Robert Trujillio - Bass guitar and backing vocals
I seen them many times in the 80s, my most memorable time seeing them was with Guns n Roses and a band called Faith no more in 1992 here in Phoenix Arizona. We had just gotten back from deployment to Iraq. I seen them again about two weeks later in Oakland California and then the next week in San Diego if I recall. I still have my old denim jacket from my high school days with their patches on it, AC/DC Judas Priest, Dio, and a bunch of others. My daughter wore it to school a couple times, and a lot of the teachers were freaking over the thing! LOL Metallica was a huge part of my Highschool day memories.
I think this was for their movie length music video. Through The Never. The background story is that a member of the road crew is trying to retrieve a duffel bag for the band while a riot rages in the city outside the arena.
And if you compare his younger version of himself you can tell it’s Metallica but then you’re like yeah this is different. His music was definitely harder back then. As he got older he has had to change his pitch and make adjustments to the way he sings. But still kills it. They put on the best concerts. I’ve been to a few of them in the 90s. He has had to change they way that he he’s sang his songs as he gets older. If you watch earlier videos of the same song. You can tell. But still sounds amazing. My favorite group of all time. So many hits and the sound is just priceless.
I went to a metallica concert with a lot of my friends in high school so about 15 years ago and we were a few feet away from the stage where there was no room to make a mosh pit there but a friend of mine pushed the guy down and he broke his ankle.
"And Justice for All" is 1 of my favorite Metallica songs. Also "Enter Sandman" If you're looking for other metal (especially if you love horror movies like the freak that is me) I would look into Ice Nine Kills. "Welcome to Horrorwood" is a good intro but if you want to play it softer, my other favorite is "Tess-Timony" But I would LOVE to see your thoughts on Aqua Everyone knows them for "Barbie Girl" but I'm kinda sick of people judging them just on that My favorite song by them is "My Mamma Said" but I also love "Cartoon Heroes" and....basically all of their music in general

It feels so good to hear you recognizing their talent. How much i had to defend my love for metal and Metallica in particular against others. because they just don't know and understand. There are many, many very talented musicians in this genre.
Sorry to have missed the premiere, but I got called into work. I swear, they can't do anything without me, lol. This was a blast to watch Maggie. Keep up the awesome work!!
This is taken from the movie through the never. It's essentially a studio recording that was made to sound live. Unless they actually took it from a live shoe a while back. Not sure how that was done. However, this is not a live show. But from a movie.
The reason for the low volume of the Audience is because this is from a Concept DVD made around a Live Concert. The Movie Like parts were dramtisations based around a roadies quest to get some thing or other the band aparently cannot do without
I'm proud to say that I was at this show! I was only 15 and it will forever be one of the best nights of my life, and sad to say that my life peaked that early lol

There are two schools of thought with live recordings. One says it should give the listener the experience of being at the concert in which case you hear the audience more which also means you hear the sound of the room and the PA more than the sound from the mics on the instruments. The other says it should be more of a capture of the performance in which case you hear more of the sound directly from the instruments and much less of the crowd. I personally prefer the former because it doesn't matter how good of a mic you use to pick up the crowd it isn't going to be like you were there no matter what you do. Better to capture the performance and bring the crowd up between songs.
Master of Puppets is about the downward spiral that drugs causes, that is why the solo is sooooo chaotic, and the movie is supposed to show what drugs do
This is a production of live. Two concerts in Mexico then one concert in Edmonton(I was at that one. Friggen Awesome Show.) Then the final in Vancouver where most of this was shot. I have two nephews in this video in the mosh pit.
Maggie, I can hear the audience in the background. it's low but they're there. maybe there was an issue with the headphones? I love this performance, btw. I saw the movie when it premiered and it was two of the best hours I ever spent in a cinema.
It always amuses me that people think that harder rock songs are just about screaming. You have reacted to Meatloaf, Metallica, Disturbed. Try Iron Maiden as well, they are all good examples of power singers ability to vocalise while singing in the extreme power ranges.
@@maggiereneemusic if you want to hear pure Metallica Music, you need to listen to Orion, if for video's, then Orion, Paris. 10 min of no vocals at all.
Another reason the audience is hard to hear at a Metallica concert is because 90% of the audience is singing along, so it kinda blends in. Yes, the song is very deep and dark because it's about drug addiction. Drug addiction is a very dark thing in which the drug takes over your mind and you life. The drug and your drug dealer holds power over you and pulls your strings like a puppet master, hence: Master of Puppets. Metallica is well known in the metal community for having very deep meaning songs with powerful messages. Check out the entire "And Justice For All" album to see more songs with very deep (and often misunderstood) meanings.
The melodic part in middle is original to Metallica. It was wrote in the 80s. It influenced others to melodic creation. You should do Master of Puppets with lyrics. Has more impact when you can keep combined emotion of lyrics and music. Keep up with your great videos!
If you heard the studio version, you would recognize this as a live version immediately. Even with the audience on low volume. As for the next one...so much to choose from. A truely good video: One (Original long version) A bit more quiet: Welcome Home. Or the same kind of energy: Creeping Death. Interaction with the audience: Seek and Destroy. And I am sure there are many people who will now go "Oh, no this one...and that one...and another one." Plenty to choose from. Everyone has his favorites. And don't start about the drummer. That's one hairy subject. If you like crazy drummers, I can recommend Animal from the Muppet Show. Or his real-life counterpart Yoshiki from X Japan. Akatsuki is a nice one to start with there. For Growling: Jinjer is a nice start. Then work your way to Slaugher to Prevail. (And again, so much to choose from, this is not doing justice to all of it.)
Notice that James completely avoids using vibrato in his singing. Gives it much more of a raw sound. Also, if you want to hear James at his absolute angriest, check out ...And Justice for All live Seattle 1989.
With rare exceptions all microphones used for a live event are unidirectional. They only pick up what they are pointed at and therefore will not get the audience.
There's TWO kinds of "recorded live". There's the amateur type where there's someone recording with a video camera or microphone (lots of audience noise). And then there's recording from the soundboard. Bands in bars run mikes and intruments straight to the amps. But big stage productions like this do NOT work like that. Every instrument and microphone on that stage feeds straight back to a huge mixing board, and THEN to the amps. So if you're recording the master sound feed to that board you will barely hear any audience noise at all.
Sorry to say but some of your viewers have misinformed you of where this footage is from. It does come from a leg of Metallica's Death Magnetic tour, but it was featured in the 3D movie Metallica released in 2013 .The name of the movie was Through the Never " it's also the title of a song on the self titled 1991 "black Album.
Hey Maggie, another group that you should definitely react to is Megadeth, their lead singer and guitarist was the original lead guitarist of Metallica prior to Kirk Hammett being brought on board The Megadeth song that I think you should definitely react to first would be "A Tout La Monde"
I don't know what other Metallica songs that you've reacted to, but the absolute end all, be all song that epitomizes the genre of heavy metal is "One" off of the "...and Justice For All" album. And don't get the live version, watch the video for the studio version. The song is about a soldier in World War I and the video is based upon the vintage movie "Johnny Got His Gun". In my opinion, it is the most perfect heavy metal song ever written! Oh, and if you enjoy drumming as much as you say you do, then strap yourself in and hang on. Because you're about to get your hair blown back!
Maggie, really enjoy your reactions especially Metal reactions. Sorry can't do the Patreon thing with things being as tight as they are at min, but you will be one of my top 3 at a later date. Just wanted to ask you something. I hear you often ask, How do they make that sound? Have you ever thought of asking them? You might be surprised at to find out that the metal community has probably the most laid back artists out there. Maybe you might want to consider dropping them a, Hello my name is Maggie and this is what I do. Maybe not Metallica as it more than likely takes them a year to get through a days fan mail lol, But perhaps bands like Jinjer , Akiavel, Vintersea, Ignea, Arch Enemy, Lorna Shore, Eliene or Synlakross... Just a thought....
I have really like watching you react to this. I think that you should take a look and listen to liliac the family rock band do the cover of master of puppets. I think that you would enjoy LILIAC.

Thought you've reacted this 🤔
This is from Orionfest that went into the movie Through the Never. This is 100% live. The song is about what cocaine does to people.
Notice that James completely avoids using vibrato in his singing. Gives it much more of a raw sound. Also, if you want to hear James at his absolute angriest, check out ...And Justice for All live Seattle 1989.
Having some dejavu...could have sworn I saw this reaction a week or two ago...eh, Maggie reaction and Metallica...ok, I'll watch again. 🥁🥁
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you on my Slipknot LIVE reaction stream tonight?
It is live but they made a dvd movie called through the never that's why it sounds like studio. But all the same it's epic as fuck
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you at my Metallica Premiere shortly?
This video is from Metallicas movie Through The Never.

With rare exceptions all microphones used for a live event are unidirectional. They only pick up what they are pointed at and therefore will not get the audience.
Greatest band in history!
I hope people. Back me up when I request. Mine is king diamond. The real opera metal singer
🤘
Just found your content today! Just love watching your reactions!
These are just scenes from their full-length movie "Through the Never". It's not just a live concert.
Hey Maggie, another group that you should definitely react to is Megadeth, their lead singer and guitarist was the original lead guitarist of Metallica prior to Kirk Hammett being brought on board
The Megadeth song that I think you should definitely react to first would be "A Tout La Monde"

From their movie
Through the never
I don't know what other Metallica songs that you've reacted to, but the absolute end all, be all song that epitomizes the genre of heavy metal is "One" off of the "...and Justice For All" album.

Thank you for your suggestions! 😊
Definitely need to do the Orion section of this film recording
