Underrated pieces of equipment, I love my flail. Neat idea with the offset.
I just took delivery of a YT235 Yanmar tractor loader backhoe with several attachments and one of the attachments is a Tar River offset flail mower. I think the Titan mower is a little heavier than the Tar River but for me and my needs I think it will work for years. I did how ever have to set the rear roller and side skids down so it was not a rototiller, but I found the having the front edge up a little bit helps mow better. I just adjusted the center link some. Like I said I just got the tractor and it had 0 hours on it and after 2 days I have about 5 hours on it but the rain is killing me. I like your channel and you put out a lot of good tips and ideas. I have never owned a new tractor or one with a Hydro stat and pedals. I've spent the first 5 hours reaching for the shuttle shifter. LOL. I think all in all both mowers are basically the same, heck this day and age they probably are built in the same factor. And I will agree the hydraulics are pretty fast when swinging or tilting. having the skill set to run this mower is going to take a minute or two. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the help you have given in your videos.

Tim, I recently purchased the 4 foot Maschio Flail from agfolks.com based on seeing it on the 1025r from your previous video. First, thank you for the awesome discount, and Will from agfolks.com was awesome.
You were very clear in your previous video on the 1025r the 4.5 foot mower was just too big. I figured, I have a 2025r [maybe just a bit more weight] and took a chance on it and I'm glad that I did. I have a couple of banks in front of my property, one downhill and another uphill that I have no desire to try and do by hand with a weed-eater anymore. When I saw the first video, I knew immediately that was what I needed to solve my property mowing issues.
Full disclosure, I'm new to tractors and only have 150 hrs on mine. That said, the tractor with the 4 foot Maschio Offset Flail mower feels planted well enough that I am happy to have purchased it. I have loaded rear tires from the dealer and I also left my loader arms with the Frontier 60" grapple attached. I don't know the weight of the grapple but it certainly weights more than the standard bucket. I connected the flail mower using the same method that you did on your 1025r with extension hoses that run past the foot pedals. Surprisingly, I couldn't even tell they were there and didn't impede movement at all. I would also like to say, Ken from Ken's Bolt on Hooks really helped me figure out this solution. After I asked him a ton of other questions of potential options, I think he just got tired of me asking [haha] and offered to help get me setup. What an awesome dude.

The flair mower does a very nice job of mowing and the ditches look great too. Id like to see the diverters valves installed. That would make the hydraulics very smooth compared to what your dealing with now. Tim buy Christy a hat with a fan in it. Happy wife....
They arent diverters. They are flow restrictors. Instead of trying so hard to feather the valve. The restrictor for a half inch hose has an 1/8 inch hole or variable ones have a valve you close partway. My friend has a 3020 JD diesel running a hydraulic driven hay rake and at first the hydraulics got super hot and restricting the flow didnt affect the raking but it ran a lot cooler
Fantastic video! I am seriously impressed with the versatility and cut of this mower. I am sold! this will be a great addition to my equipment inventory and for mowing my Dad's barnyard. Please do the video on the hydraulic restrictor as the jerkiness was my only concern.
Great Video! Our DPW has a similar mower but they have it front mounted on a skid steer. There's a boom attached to it and they can lift it high to trim back low hanging branches.You remind me of the kid down the street when we were growing up. We thought him as a bit strange playing with a doll, the doll was a GI Joe. Every week it seemed he'd buy a new attachment for it like the Jeep then howitzer and so on. Then it became interesting! It rained here the other day like I've never seen before, the swale I created with the 46" plow on my little Cub Cadet XTI did a great job re directing run off away from the yard. It rained so hard the fish in my fish pond were wearing raincoats! Best Regards, Jay
Good video Tim, nice mower. Remember to use those flashers when your working near the rd. I know someone who was killed mowing just like you are . The driver apparently not paying attention didnt see the tractor and ran into him. Take care, stay safe
Deer Rudy- I was thinking the same thing..use those flashes and get off the road asap! People are on the phone while driving these days and dont care about construction or other workers near the road.
10:00 that fan looks almost identical to the squirrel cage blower I took out of my old microwave. They really move some air! I use mine to keep the bonfires going and to start the charcoal in the grill faster.
Tim, you should have your flashing lights on and maybe add a flashing light on top of the tractor for traffic safety.

This does look like a nice setup. More fine-tune control would be nice. Seems to be perfect for roadsides, because it doesn't throw grass and stuff out onto the road. As far as your comment about being on the level,.....we will have to ask Christy about that. But you may want to wait awhile to ask her. Her facial expression and voice inflection, when she found out about your cooling fan, was just precious. Hope you treated her to a nice meal. "Note to Self",.....have Mary and Martha remind you to turn on your safety/hazard flashers when you are out along the road.
Thankd for the demo, Tim. The jerking action seemed to throw the tractor from side-to side pretty severe. THanks fo this demo. Full-watch. . After watching you maneuver around the ditches, I have a lot more respect for county grass cutters. Sure do likje the fan. Ihave a Curtis canopy and that accessory fan is the ticket. It's been 100+ degrees with heat index for the past several weeks. At 12:50 I noticed your street sign with a wind operated spinner. Never saw anything like that before. (interesting). I've mowed roadsides for a couple different townships up in Canada. Iv used offset bush hog and flail mower. The flail is slower going but the cut quality is second to none. I prefer flail mower. Beautiful cutting fella keep it up

Thanks again for the hard work Kristie...you too Tim...my son works for our county as a heavy equipment operator, so is more conscious than most about the bad things that can happen near the road...you might do a program about that with your county or state highway department. Many of us have property that borders on public roads. I'm sure one of the things they would mention would be flashers and beacons.
Nice video, Tim. Good job with the flail mower. With all that jerking around at the 1st part of this video from the mower when ya was trying to adjust it, perhaps you could slow down the engine RPM's which would also slow down the hydraulic pump, so that way there would be less "jerking motion". . . . . i dunno.
Also, when youre up on the county road like ya are, it would be a good idea to turn on your flashing hazard lights on the tractor as well as your headlights & fender lights. This would would be a very good safety habit to get into for oncomming & going road traffic to see you better for their safety & especially yours. I do the "safety light" habit when im mowing the barrow ditches with my lil johhny.
Just one more safety tip for ya. Keep that loader & forks down lower than what you have it in the video. It to high for the type of work ya'll are performing. Ya need to keep the weight down as low as possible to prevent any type of possible tipping motion from the tractor, regardless if the flail mower is there or not. Restrictors would be a good idea.
Directly on the tractor so you can use it on other implements too.
I would also bypass (not remove) the safety valve on that tilting cilinder and install a electric valve to be able to have a floating position at the push of a bouton.

This mower may be a good fit for small towns that mow alone roads, maybe even cutting small limbs infringing into travel lanes.
The bushhog on a backhoe style setup is great for cutting along roads with larger limbs, but the setup cost a lot, to much for a home owner.

The only thing I noticed and I know this is picky but being on the side of the road you may have turned the headlights and flashers on for your safety. You know how people are when they’re driving. Good job !
Yes, Tim it's hard work with all the control's that's why i use the loader valve.... (coupler on the rear are the same) and use the float for the ditch (have no valve on the cilinder)

I like the fan under your canopy. Fantastic idea. I certainly agree that the hydraulic flow to the mower is too high, as seen with the jerky movements. Not sure what kind of restrictor your looking at, but I highly recommend an adjustable flow control instead of a fixed restrictor. I suspect you will be potentially changing the flow slightly based on the terrain your working on.
Tim, I think you need to find Christy a fan cooled hat!!! :-)

if you are working / mowing ON or just NEXT to the road you must have the hazard lights ON !
and actually also a rotating beacon on your roof .
there are mobile beacons that you can stick to your roof with a suction cup .
for example, road traffic can see that you are on the road for a long time and that they have to pay attention and possibly slow down

I made my own using an automotive radiator fan. Probably blows twice what yours does. 😁 Feels like AC on those hot days!

A restrictor show would be cool, just like the flail mower, I have a few restrictions I’d like to do.
Great video. Answered all the questions i had. It was like you know what i was going to ask. Myself..........i throttle down the engine some when hydraulics get to jerky. Just was i was taught when as a kid.(will not comment on how long ago that was). Off to justify to the banker why i need one now. This video will definitely help my case.
Great video Tim ... Perhaps you may think about weedeating all round the signs and power boxes first then you can just mow without backing up and adjusting the mower. Of course this a demonstrational video. Like I said .. another great video ... can’t beat those flail mowers.

I mow between myself and neighbor too. Back country road and the grass gets as tall as you’ll let it grow. The other side of me. We both mow it. I mow my half and he mows his. But the other side it’s all my neighbors and I do it because I think it looks better and can see coming out driveway better. He doesn’t pay me or anything but I just do it. lol. The other side of road is where my mailbox is. I mow around that so they can see it and keeps it cleaner looking. I’m really leaning towards a flail for these projects. But I may be able to knock all these projects out with one of those trimmer mowers for cheaper. Idk yet. The only somewhat steep ditch is across the road. But I just been using a push mower. Works good.
what is the width of this 2028r tractor with the tires you have on it from outside to outside...and the tractor's weight as you have it equipped?
The combo of the 2038R and that offset-able flail mower looks lie it does a fantastic job to me. I'm sure the restrictors you already mentioned will help with fine control of the mower. Questions... Do the 2038R's rear SCVs have a float position? Would floating the mower's angle adjustment let it follow the ground contours better over and above the limited range of the "floating" end link connection of the angle cylinder?
Ugh. Was gonna talk about that. I experimented with the float. It sorta works.
@@TractorTimewithTim one negative on the float... when you mow a small peace the pto and gearbox are to heavy and the float won't work.
most off the time i put him in float and lock it...
that sure mows nice, i had to laugh when you mowed the plant pot, i to just recently mowed over one like that, but i didnt see it.

Surprised Vinnie won't cut that. I'm starting to really like that 2038R. A great mower to own. It's been really wet up here in NW Indiana.
Just that one spot...and I have done it with Vinny...but not comfortably. It is steep!
I've watched this video a couple times as I'm intrigued by this mower. Even more so, the hydraulic situation. Would love to see a video focusing somewhat on hydraulic hoses and types as well as those restrictors you mentioned. I've also brainstormed about upgrading my loader quick connects to the easier flat faced type and any info or maybe a video would be great!

i have the same mower only a 6 foot on a Mahindra 6075 and would like to see an episode on the restrictors in the hydraulic lines as I am a bit jerky and find i have to have both hands on the remotes to have a smooth movement.

Also, is this the only flail mower you have used? I am interested in possibly getting one that doesn't tilt, but just has the hydraulic offset for several reasons...1. save money, 2. I think they gotta be stronger design and less stress on the 3 point hitch by balancing the weight, and 3. to help prevent excessive rocking and shaking from too rapid movement changing positions...during tilt or extension/retraction.

I think a hydraulic offset would be a good compromise. Easier to operate.
Of course you lose some function, but there are always trade offs.
Farmers will often delay mowing or not mow ditches to provide some cover and habitat for wildlife. Tim didn't have his four ways on while working alongside the road.

I recently bought a 2038R with pretty well every single thing you can get on it much of which the dealer had never installed before after watching all your videos. I want to buy a hydraulic offset flail mower next, looks like a Delmorino but not sure which model. Basically I want to run the widest I can with that tractor and not become underpowered. I will be into scrubby brush for sure, more than thick grass. I’m thinking the Funny Super 132. What do you think?

Tim, I have been in a discussion on a forum, possibly with the same person about an offset flail mower on a 2601. The concern I expressed with him was the weight of his tractor with the weight of the flail mower fully extended and my doubts that he could add enough weight to counter act the tipsy tendency. Your 2038R has about 800 lbs over the 2601 base tractor to base tractor and while you and he could control some of the tractor shifting by hydraulic hose restrictors there is little to change that tipsy on a slope with weight hanging out the side except for tractor weight for ditch or pond side mowing.
From the discussion on the forum, this was not what that individual wanted to here. On flat ground or very slight slope, I agree the combination should be fine, however I also believe in some of what you demonstrated in this video, would be extremely unstable even to the point of a rollover on the combination of a 2601 and 4’ flail mower.
My opinion, but you did mention some feeling of instability in this video.
I went back and found my forum discussion. That conversion was about a L2501 (my bad) so it may have have been a different individual.

However, I still have the tip concerns as expressed above and on the forum. The L2501 does have more weight than the 2601. But again your 2038R was rocking pretty good at times.
A 2601 is much (14" IIRC) narrower than a 2038R. Just looked at one yesterday and I really liked it. Bigger/heavier than a subcompact but just as narrow for getting into tight spots & smaller than a 2038R. Not crazy about the treadle pedal or mower attaching & really wanted 30 HP PTO but is definitely in the running.
danielsharon524 an narrower makes it a even bigger tip risk, which factors into my above concerns with a heavy implement hanging offset as the flail mower in this video does. But heck, that individual will do as he wishes, I just hope he does not out the severe injury or as happens with rollovers to often death route that, he had been warned of the risk!
...I’m suggesting the 4’ offset for the L2601. I was able to use this 4.5’ version on the 1025r. The 2601 is 400 lb heavier than that. I am comfortable saying that this heavier machine can handle a lighter mower than I have.

Good job. I wish my neighbor would cut my ditch..... That sign with the rotating reflector is odd. State mowing crews have some type of mower that similar, but it attaches in the center of the tractor with usually a bush hog on the back. They also have a counter weight on the other side.
Lots of accidents at the stop sign...rotating reflectors seem to have reduced the accidents.
You Should Mow Around A Farm Pond To See What Happens...
This looks like a Great implement. However it is priced way beyond my means do you have an option like this hydraulic offset flail mower which is a little more affordable? I can research for myself but I’m not sure what I’m looking at if it’s quality or not. If you don’t know Offhand that’s fine where is a good connection to call or contact?
You will need the same precautions with a flail mower like any other mower with a rotating cutter-flails CAN still throw debris up to 300 ft from the mower.The road Dept here in Greenville use 3 deck Alamo mowers for the roadsides here.I read the operators manual on that machine and give the same precautions as with any other rotating mower.Also don’t let the flail rotor contact hard fixed objects-they can cause the flail blades to dislodge from the rotor and be thrown like a bullet !
Curious if you have any ballast on your tractor? I couldn't see any wheel weights on the opposite side wheel as it was never in camera view. Also I would never be able to see if the tires are liquid filled.? I'm looking at a 65" offset flail for my 2038R. I think I will be fine... Thanks

Bigger tractor would be fine, but not necessary. The 2038r is a good fit for it.
