    Tim, thanks for doing the grease gun give away. A friend I submitted was a winner and he's very happy.
    The first couple rows you cut didn't impress me very much and I was thinking my Frontier rotary cutter with my 1025R does better. Then when you raised the roller it was a game changer! That really works well and does a super job. Love how we learn along with you.
    Drone footage was pretty good, Christi!

    I have used a 68" flail mower behind my Kioti CK2610 for years. Will never go back to a rotary again. If you are running hammer flails, don't worry too much about hitting rocks. In the Ozarks we get a fresh crop of rocks every year. The ones I have hit didn't fair well.

    Impressive job on the corn stalks. That will sure help with decomposition for next spring tillage. I’m liking what I see on the flail mower. The adjustable hydraulic restrictor looks like a good addition. Thanks for sharing, and blessings to you and Christy.

    As a new and current flail mower owner I have noticed if the foliage is extremely tall like your corn stalks the mower tends to push it over and only trim the stalk as it rolls over it leaving a laid down stalk that’s skent as it is passed over. I now lengthen the top link as far as I can and let it float on the rear roller

    Congratulations to the winners. Tim, I don't think anyone is going to be upset with your picks. We're just glad that you and your sponsor are will to give back and help where you can. As for the flail mower, it looks like it works great for you, but not much use for me. With my property, the finance department and I think a wood chipper would be a better return on investment.
    4 more things:
    1. How's the factory installed 3rd function working out on the 1025?
    2. Any wisdom/advice on a wood chipper.
    3. Have you talked with your sponsor about getting a MSL (on loan or otherwise) for the 1025 or 2038 to try out and demonstrate for us? The spec's I've see show an increase of a couple hundred pounds to full height (on 2038). I'd love to see you test that out.
    4. I noticed the completed barn in the background - nice job!

    Ugh, sweet corn stalks are so annoying! I usually end up chopping them down so I can throw them into a compost bin. I tried my wood chipper once, but got frustrated after I plugged it up. I think I know what I was doing wrong, but I've since broken the wood chipper due to my own impatience and need to get a welder and teach myself how to weld so I can fix it. The fun never ends. :-)

    That fail did a number on the corn. So are you going to leave it that way this winter, or do some form of tillage? Not sure how matted that material is. My concern would be the ground not drying out next spring if its pretty thick. Around here no one chops stalks for that reason, it just stays wet. Curious what you are thinking.

  • @TallTexasGMan
    @TallTexasGMan 4 года назад +1

    Tim what flail type is on your mower? That makes a huge difference too. There are effectively three types: straight blade, V blade, and sheep foot. I have a V blade on mine, it does okay in grass but shines in stalky brush. The sheep foot is great for grass but apparently is not good for brushy areas. The straight is supposed to be a hybrid as it is a center bar in the V. Almost like a W and is more mulching on a brush setting. At least this is how it was explained to me by Bestsco

    Since this mower turns vertical, I have to wonder, can it safely be used to cut in that position...say you want to "trim a hedge line" or a "treeline" where branches stick out. Can a flail mower not only reach under those branches when level, but also be turned vertical to cut the branches back as well? Thank you for your outstanding channel.

      @@TractorTimewithTim Found this video, and at 1:10 in the video they show what I was asking about. Would love to hear your feedback on its effectiveness in this position as it appears to just slap the stuff back out of the way as much as it cuts, but perhaps they were not using the best blades for this application. I would think the heavier hammer blades would be best here, but I don't really know. Your thoughts?

    When you get a chance, it'd be nice to see more info on the flow control valves. Are they hard plumbed in-line into the hose connections down stream from the quick connects or do they plug into the quick connects and then the hoses plug into the control valves via their quick connects? The quick connect plug-in configuration would make them transferable among multiple implements.

  • @Homegardener55
    @Homegardener55 4 года назад +10

    Actually on your comment on hybrid corn, a hybrid isn’t a cross between two hybrids. If you create hybrid corn it usually is a cross between 2 inbred lines. One of those inbred parent lines might have been an older hybrid at one point, but a inbred is 100% homozygous. A hybrid is 100% heterozygous, half the genes from both parents, two different copies per gene. Now a days they use double haploid crossing, which means the corn has two identical copies per gene, creates inbreds much quicker. The reason you grow hybrids is because of heterosis or hybrid vigor, meaning the outcome of the 2 inbreds is superior to them by themselves. That’s the reason of such high yields.

    have watched very many of your videos, and even used them to help people make decisions on attachments. Very great job of explaining as always. I may have missed it or maybe someone has already asked, but does this create a right hand side load to the 3 pt? I have seen some videos if it is angled down in a ditch, it appears the 3 pt looks like it is loaded super heavy to the right hand side. I would guess it would add a lot of load to that side, but my wonder is if it is to a point of damaging the 3 pt arms or trans case?

    I'm sorry you men0tioned it and I missed it, but does your flail mower have the fine cut, or course cut blades? I love my 2 flail mowers and use them a lot. I have a John Deere 25A with course cut blades that I use for brush cutting and heavy weeds and a 6' Mott with fine cut blades that is used for mowing along fence rows and keeping the grass looking good along the gravel driveway and clear ways around the hay field. Each is very good for what I need them for and they have relegated the 7' bush hog (actual brand) trailer type mower to just sporadic work.
    I really enjoy your videos and thought just yesterday when I was mowing 6 acres of grass with my 50-something Allis Chalmers B and Woods belly mower how much fun it would be to have a "mow off" with you and one of your modern tractors. Of course you win, hands down, but it would be fun to show how far tractors and mowers have advanced in 70 years. In every aspect of safety, ease of operation, and ergonomics the new tractors and equipment really shine. But in simplicity and maintenance I think the old iron still shines.
    Keep up the good work.

      Allis B is my dad’s first tractor! Very sentimental to me. Would love to have a ‘mow off’. Do you have a trailer?

    • @rtundlt1
      @rtundlt1 4 года назад

      @@TractorTimewithTim In addition to the Allis B, I also use the 1953 John Deere 40 for some mowing but use it for pulling a hay tedder and rake too.
      The good news is I do have a trailer but the bad news is I live in East Tennessee.

    So sorry to hear about Mary. Tim, does the flail mower come with the PTO shaft, and do you know anything about the optional kit they offer for tractors with only 1 set of rear remotes and how that works? Great video as always, really love the way Christy got the drone footage. Really like the new shop video as well.

      Yes, comes with shaft. Do not know about optional kit. Maybe they will comment.

      No, a combine cannot harvest sweet corn.
      There IS a professional harvester available. However, not necessary or practical for a home garden.
      Just grab a few ears by hand.

    You have to lower the front down not the back where the roller is and you should have a golf course look and Grease Grease that every 4 hours and the shaft as well require lots of grease.
