Killer Whales Hunting the Largest Animal Ever: Orcas vs. a Blue Whale

  • Orcas create a new ecosystem by hunting a blue whale. It takes five hours for 30 orcas to kill the largest animal ever. Orcas first wear the whale, and younger orcas are brought into the killing once it is tired. Researchers thought that it is a rare event. But We have observed several instances of orcas hunting blue whales. How this hunting creates a whole new ecosystem is something that I explain in this #shorts video. Please watch to learn more.

      Blue whales were actually not hunted until the 20th century. They were too fast for ships to catch. They also used to be called sulphur bottom whales

      Sperm whales where the one that got hunted the most because of the oil in their heads it was used for stuff like candles and other things if I remember correctly

    Humans only realize this now, but the Orca has probably been doing this for as long as they been in the ocean.

      A group of Orcas can probably kill a Megaladon too. Maybe thats why they went extinct. Megaladon was huge so they are easily spotted, so Orca probably hunted these creatures and they went extinct. Never know. Ocra kill for food and training somes say for fun as well.

      @@effingwrecked1917megalodon went extinct due to climate change their prey moving to different and competition with other predators such as great whites and also megalodon and orcas lived in different areas of the ocean orcas live mostly in more colder areas while the megalodons lived in warmer waters and yes orcas can be found in warmer waters their attacks that they probably did on megalodons probably wasn’t enough to completely hunt them to extinction so orcas probably weren’t responsible for their extinction

    As long as humans leave the whales alone, we won’t lose them. The orcas were designed to hunt and eat them. In turn, the leftovers feed an entire eco-system. This is symbiotic.

      All big sharks
      Dolphins
      Birds of any size (snatching them when they dive or fly too low)
      Saltwater crodiles
      Polar bears
      Sperm whales (abeit not adult males)
      Moose
      Walruses (and every other pinniped)
      And basically everything else they may like.
      It doesn't get any more "apex" than outspeeding and outmanouver a white shark in the water, drown it (drowning a fish!), and then eat only a small piece because the rest is not very tasty.

      They're safe! Adult blue, sperm, humpback & many other type of whales is 1000000000% safe from Orcas aka Killerwhales but at the same time many other adult whales gets hunted by Orcas like Bowhead, Minke (etc) whales.       The only reason orcas win is pod numbers. Blue whale was definitely physically stronger than a sperm whale, it couldnt bite though and it didnt have teeth either so it would be really difficult to fight especially since its fighting against an army all by itself

    Maybe it's obvious and I'm just wasting my breath, but none of the footage in this upload shows orcas hunting blue whales. In one part of the clip I believe they're killing a fin whale. Another part from a longer piece of source footage depicts two young orcas teasing a blue whale for fun, not hunting or killing it. I assume the footage in this upload is mostly intended as background scenery while we consume our orca facts.

      I love blue whales and killer whales, and I believe we should let them live together the way they have lived in the past millions of years.

      @@Predation_records The definition of an apex predator is a predator at the top of a food chain, without natural predators of its own. Orcas regularly hunt whales. Moreover, if you search "apex predator of the ocean", mostly the only animal that shows up is the orca.
