    I'm the original owner of a 2007 GT/CS with a 5spd. The "Stang" has 258,512 miles on it after today's oil change. I used it to commute to Toronto, Canada, for the first 10 years and was never afraid to have some fun with it. It was a BLAST in the snow. Cheap urban rally racing. Very cheap car to maintain to achieve high mileage #'s and still have a very reliable car that still looks brand new. Maintenance is the key.
    Cheers from Canada.

      There are stories of taxis with up to 1 million miles on them and I know of 1 Lincoln Towncar with the same 4.6 that has over 1 million. The weak point of these engines is what you'd usually find behind them in the 90s and early 2000s, which is the 4 speed auto transmission, which still isn't a bad transmission per se, but generally was only expected to last around 170K before needing an overhaul.
      However, I bought a 98 Expedition once with the same engine/trans with 245K on it. It's been some years, but I'm still baffled at the fact that it had the original transmission and upon dropping the pan to change the fluid and filter, found the original factory plug in there. It had never been changed.
      So not only did it have the original transmission the fluid and filter had never been changed. That explained the shifting issues, which weren't only fixed with fresh fluid, it shifted beautifully.

      @@raspberrysherbet5285 Because if you have to ask that question you're stupid. If the odometer only goes to 999,999 miles, it flips over to 000,000 miles and then you count that as 1 million miles and go up from there.
      A child can understand this. I can't believe you not only asked that question, but pressed me on it.

    Fixing the leak in the 2005 mustang is easy. There’s a grommet in the well under the plastic where the windshield wipers are. It gets clogged and when it rains it overflows into the cabin filter on mine. I constantly make sure it’s not clogged and have never had a leak even during a hurricane where we had 20 inches of rain in Florida. Just clean it out after the leaves fall and pollen falls and you’ll never get a leak.

      That is good advice, but I have a 2006 and, at least with my car, it wasn't so simple. Early on, my water leaks were the same as yours. Within a year, I was seeing water leaking inside again and those drains were clear. Over the next few years, the amount of water coming in was increasing rapidly and started to mess with my electrical system. I found that the source of this second water leak was the holes for the cowl cover's clips. I poured water into the holes and it just flowed into the car. I have come across someone else who had the same issue with those holes. Clearly, there's a flaw within the unibody. I used a weatherstrip adhesive to re-install the clips and eliminated the leakage which was a relief as I spent a lot of time looking for it. I hope you don't develop this leak, but keep this in mind if you do and for anyone else who may see this.

    My 2000 Mustang (V6) has 220,200+ miles on it and my 2005 Mustang (V6) has 260,000+ miles on it. Yes, they both are my commute cars and I take care of them. Although my 2005 is starting to show signs of age with the gauges not working anymore, fueling it up is a pain since it literally takes me like 15 mins. to fill up the tank, and rats biting all sorts of electrical wires in the engine. But, a little TLC goes a long way. My 2000 is pretty much flawless except for the fact that the California desert sun has BAKED off my paint and it looks like a rusty bucket of bolts. She is however, my ol' reliable Mustang. She will get you there with wing and a prayer lol 😂. I love my Mustangs!

    I bought my 2006 Mustang GT new, and it's been an enjoyable car throughout the years and I want to keep driving it forever really. I don't do as much driving in general as I used to. I was racking up miles for a few years, but I'm at about 165,000 miles on my 4.6 liter and it's running great. I've had most of the typical problems, the paint flaking off the leading edge of the hood, the water leaks(I finally found the water was entering via the holes for the cowl cover clips), broken clutch pedal linkage due to the rod end being brittle plastic, and I'm now starting to see weird electrical glitches despite dealing with the water leaks several years ago. And because of the water leaks, I haven't had carpet in the car for a decade, which is actually kind of fun because it makes my car a bit like an old Road Runner. Despite all that, I do love the car.

    08 GT/CS convertible, automatic 130k (30k from me). Originally bought by a mustang-loving family as a commuter. The woman who owned it was on her 3rd or 4th Mustang, all bought new for commuting back and forth to work. This one was her baby. It lived in the garage and spent the workday in the garage at work. All maintenance done at the dealer (w/paperwork). Everything still works flawlessly. The 3v 4.6L runs smooth. She still feels like a brand new car to me. While I have smoked the tires a time or two, she’s still driven very conservatively most of the time. The S197 4.6L actually makes a decent commuter 3/4 of the year, averaging 24 MPG!

    • @DerickBrown
      @DerickBrown 4 года назад

      A few minor mods and you can bump that mileage to around 26, or higher. Just an aftermarket CAI and maybe higher pound injectors (found a set of 8 24lb injectors for $200 on AmericanMuscle.com that I will be adding (when I win the lottery). Right now with stock CAI and a Steeda throttle-body plenum, I average 25mpg on my commute.

I've wrecked it in the snow multiple times, drove it across the country 10+ times, I haven't changed any fluids besides the oil like 3 times, ac went out, tail wing fell off, I go to the gas station buy the oil in the can and dump in it and go on. I have a 2012 V6 auto trans Mustang which had 38,000 miles on it when I bought it in 2014. I drive it as my commute car, and put right at 1,000 miles on it a week. This is now Jan of 2022. She just rolled past 356,000 miles. I am able to keep it in the garage at the house and most of the miles are interstate miles. I change the oil and filter religiously between every 3 to 5 thousand miles. I try to stay up on all other parts and fluids, belts, filters and other rubber items. When I initially got her cruising the interstate it was common to get right at 31 to 33 mpg. At about the 200,000 mile mark I noticed that the mpg was dropping some. Now she averages 26 to 28 mpg. I'm about ready to keep her in the garage and get a newer Mustang in a V-8. Any suggestions as far as best years?? Thanks ahead of time.
