HDZero FPV Goggle Sma fix. Goggle tear down
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 янв 2023
- To be VERY clear my goggles DID come with SMA nut on the OUTSIDE of the shell but not in the inside of the shell resulting is basically no strain relief on the SMA. I started recording after I took them off.
I would do this modification or just be super careful with your SMA connections.

Thanks for pointing out this for me. Much appreciated.
Thank you for making the best goggle I have ever used!
Divimath has consistently shown that they care about this project, which is what made ordering a set of these such an easy choice. I've never seen a company accept feedback and make improvements so well before.
100% agree!
Great tear down! The absence of SMA nuts was the first thing I noticed and corrected although the addition of a backing nut (I just placed one on the outside of the case to limit down pressure) is really the right way to go. Totally pro and informative video: I subscribing!
is the backing nut necessary or will a toothed washer and/or a split washer followed by an SMA nut on the outside of the goggle shell be sufficient (I don't want to open up my brand new pair of goggles)?
Awesome video and information Dan 👌 I think I may install the sma locking ring on all mine as well. Definitely would not hurt. 🤟👊
Nice fix to a future problem that can easily happen. Cheers!
Just finished your video. I agree, he should put the additional sma nut on the back side
It's a little disappointing that for those of us who have already got these on the way, that we will need to do this fix: I intended on running 4 stubbies, so over time there is a chance that without the sma nuts and washers on both the inside and outside of all 4 ports, that this will develop into a problem (particularly, if we want to keep the antennas installed all the time), which may well be out of the warranty period for the goggles. I wouldn't want to open up the goggles for fear of damaging something else...
Nice little vid bud. Good idea taking the stress off the board. Will definitely be doing mine 👍. Now subbed 👌
New Sub. Thank you for your time.
Salute
Thank you!
No problem!
That was useful, thanks!
Wow, that's a massive oversight, I can see a lot of people over tightening antenna's and tearing the SMA off the board.
Nice catch and fix and great video! I think I may also sqeeze a rubber o ring on each side of the plastic if they’ll fit, although a sma size grommet would probably be best to hold the sma in the middle of the hole, similar to what we use for soft mounting FCs (not sure if they make them in the size for for sma). I think I’ll do all 4 while I’m at it.
Great video thank u.
Excellent video, Dan! Thanks! 😊
I absolutely agree, that should be done from the factory!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Stay safe bobby
I saw what you did in video. Did fix the the video problem.
He mentioned it was the antenna itself and not the goggle connector that was damaged with the bump
That's nutty. 😉😁
Seems like a simple process, but I hope HD Zero looks at this small suggestions from the community and fix them on the next shipments.
Scroll through the comments section. They notice and I feel like they will do what's needed to improve this product.
@@TweetFPV Just saw Carl's comment. Thanks
My Skyzone 04x showed up with broken spike in sma port. I had to replace myself or wait month for skyzone. Skyzone said I can fix myself won't void warranty of still doesn't work after.
Im gonna have to do this now 🤣
Saw another video where the ground pad of that antenna was broken and hard to see unless you wiggle the connector. Someone added a small wire from the connector ground to a ground side of a cap.
I just saw that video today. I certainly need to get back into mine and check that connection out. I have a feeling that mine will need this repair.
4:01 - Would be nice if you showed how to get that pesky second clip unlatched... Otherwise you put a lot of work into this one. Thank you.
Yea sorry, I had a hard time getting a good shot of that second clip.
I am guessing you may have unplugged the SMA board from the connector board 🤷?
I don't think so otherwise I probably ould have lost signal on both of the right hand antennas. In the end it was just a bad antennae in my case.
You got link to your Philips. One mine too big. One too small. Eye glass kind of fits but too hard to hold it and unscrew. They are in so hard
Something rattling around inside my goggles
Both the sharkbyte and vrx4 use direct soldered sma and I beat the hell out of them never had one break but it did seem like a poor design choice.
What tool do you use to use to take the sma nut on and off of the sma connector where it is recessed, is it just a deep socket?
Yea you can use a deep socket. I typically just use a prop nut tool.
This is the one I used in the video www.racedayquads.com/products/prop-wrench-rdq-prop-tool?_pos=2&_sid=7a106dd53&_ss=r/?aff=52
@@TweetFPV awesome, thank you a bunch
Did the top SMA jacks not have strain relief hex nuts on the outside face? It is supposed to have these installed from factory for this reason
It had nuts on the outside but they offer no strain relief since there was no backing nut on the inside of the shell.
@@TweetFPV But it would prevent downward pressure on the boards? No??
Yea and that's it.
Does it have enough room to put sma nuts on the side sma connectors?
Yea, there is plenty of room for nuts on the side connectors. I probably should have added them too. But with my setup I don't see damage being as likely as the top connectors.
Damn it tough for me to snap that faceplate in! Needs alot of pressure.
Yea the first time installing the face plate I was surprised how much pressure it required but it got easier the second time.... Not sure if that's a good thing or not 😂
@TweetFPV yeah I got them snapped in last night. I tried with my top antennas on and realized I was putting alot of pressure on them. So I took them off and watched your video how you snapped your on and the satisfying click was heard. Lol thanks
what marries those two daughter boards together? you just press them together, but I didnt see any pins or connector
There's a connector but it's hard to see in the video.
Nice video, but maybe you should have just tested antennas first?
Thanks for the advice.
My top antennas have nuts on the threads above the plastic casing. Yous doesn't appear to have that?
My side antennas do not though so I think il add some to give them some strength.
Mine had them on top but that really doesn't help with any side ward impacts on them.
Unreal. Can't believe as much as they charge for these (mine on order) we have this defect. Terrible engineering over site!
You should send them back and let the manufacturer deal with the defect.
Shame on HDZero for not thinking about little details. Not only is it more solid but it also prevents debris from getting in there. Good job!!!
Made in China what can u expect
Well, Carl replied and seems like he will take this into consideration. That's the type of response you want to see
Made in China and they're the best goggles on the market. You countrist 😂
